KiwiCatMom - I actually noticed the kitten first - how bad is that? The man is certainly handsome - but I think he's best looking because the smile on his face for the kitten. A man who loves animals is alright in my book.

He's adorable, as is the kitten. He once weighed over 300 lbs and got into nutrition and fitness. Now he's a fitness/nutrition coach and I'm going to have him help me a bit. He is, indeed, made all the more handsome by his fantastic smile, non-judgemental attitude, and love for the kitties.

Queenie, that cat is huge! Do you know what she weighs? And what is the attraction of sleeping on the back cushion of the sofa. My cat loves it there too. I think my sofa cushion is cushier than yours.

Quite the chunky lass, isn't she? At the moment, she weighs something like seventeen pounds, and should be under ten--she's not a structurally large cat, as our previous puss was.

And that's HIS end of the sofa. HER end isn't in the picture, although he's been known to invade.

As for cats on backs of sofas... My Fia loves it. She startled me yesterday as I did not know she was there, and she was literally inches from me.

Kiwi ~ I was reading the posts from the bottom to the top..... I was momentarily overcome with delight at tbe thougbt of your formerly 300 lb cat. Ah, I kept reading...... the real big guy is just as delightful 😻

When we first introduced Boy Cat (the tuxedo) into our household, he plagued Girl Cat like whoa (hence the comment "I would never ambush my brother when he was asleep.") They're brother and sister, but had been separated long enough that they'd forgotten each other.

One day, HE lay on HER side of the sofa and smirked. She hopped up onto the sofa and glared. He did a paw slap. Then I swear she stomped and snorted just like a sumo wrestler....and he fled. Don't wanna know what she said.

The rescue kitty is now living with another member of the committee to rescue her. She was really mean to Squeakers, so we're happy to pass her along. She was a real lap hog and loved petting. Other cats, not so much. She chased him away from his food.

I took Squeakers for his outside time on the leash. We were in the back yard when I spotted a very young raccoon. I got Squeakers up on the deck before he saw him. In the meantime the raccoon climbed a tree quite close to the deck so they were at eye level. I was afraid Mama was around somewhere and might think her baby was threatened, so we went in.

Susan - lots of rescue organizations are looking for people to come play and socialize kittens who are in stores for adoptions. Might be able to get your cat fix without having a cat. Just take extra clothes and change before going home.

Susan3: Second the idea of 'cat socialization'. Whether you need to change your clothes before going home is optional, depending on how allergic DH is, but definitely wash your hands well.

Stores, Humane Society/ASPCA, no-kill shelters, rescue groups, fostering groups, whatever. There are several ways of going about this, should you be interested. Hey, Miss Plumpy Puss emerged into your presence, even if she did give you the total stinkeye. That counts for something in my book.

Our shelter has 3 shifts per afternoon of volunteers who go in to socialize and play with the kitties. It's about 8-10 people each afternoon. I think there are more on weekends. Each person's shift is 2 hours. The dog side has dog walkers twice a day. Plus runners "get fit with fido" and hikers.

Queenie ~ I wonder why it is that the kitties forget their siblings? My heart cat and his twin were brought together for a play date once upon a time..... it did not go well. They were inseparable as babies but a few months apart and they became strangers Good for sissie standing up to brother! Her side of the sofa? My goodness, a girl can only be pushed so far😾

Wren ~ was this the same rescue that was the lovely little old lady-cat? Poor Squeakers! He has put up with some bullies Kiitty leash training is hard! I've only ever had limited success with mine. What type of harness do you use? We are protective of our fur babies aren't we? I had a friend who one time threw herself between her baby and a charging large dog........ her "baby" was just a wee 110lb Rottweiler! She was a protective pet mamma, lol! Glad you didn't have wrastle any critters to protect Squeakers 😺

Excellent ideas about playing with the homeless kitties! I usually don't like FFH....if he were allergic, I'd be tempted to NOT change my clothes 😽 (hmmm.. he does have a bad shellfish allergy) Shhhhh!

Yes, it was the lovely little old lady cat. Definitely full of tortitude. The leash we're using goes over his head, down his front, around his front legs and fastens on top of his back. He can, and has, taken it off. I don't think he can do it while you're holding it, but DH lets go. I'm making (for a year now) a different kind out of fabric. All I need to do is sew on the velcro - but that means I need to fill a new bobbin. You know how it goes. He had been outside (FIV+) and was dying to go back. As soon as he realized the harness meant outside, he was enthused. No training at all.

Usually cats just lay down flat in a harness. We have a photo at the shelter of a white cat doing exactly that. The caption says "Civil disobedience cat will not be moved"

Oh yes! I have experienced the civil disobedience Finding something that is slip-proof but cat comfy is difficult. My Ragdoll, Disheveled Andrew, would wear a leash and harness for vet outings as he was uncontrollably violent in a cat carrier. He ripped out most of the claws from his front paw one time! Andy was a good car rider though. He wore a mesh puppy vest/harness. I've seen, but never tried the Come With Me Kitty harness and the Kitty Holster. They are supposed to be escape proof. Pris is too timid to try leash walking. Squeakers is a good kitty!
