Exercise and well being during chemo and radiation

A pound a month sounds ideal, actually! (For me, not so much a diet I go on until I lose what weight I 'need' to lose, then go off. But rather relearning how to eat.)
Today: my first meeting with personal trainer at Y. I can see this working, but now a little shaky from using muscles in ways I haven't in years. He's basically going to pry me away from the baby Nautilus machines.
-
The delightful wife and I went ahead and joined the gym. She's going to meet with a trainer--I tried the gym's Zumba last night. Feet really hurt in sneakers but I will do my best. This might force me to yoga--they don't require footwear!
-
Keep meaning to try yoga, myself. Zumba, I'd zig when everybody else was zagging, which still works for the aerobic aspect of things, but you tend to trip your compatriots.
-
It's all about hanging out in the back row, my dear. It's dyslexia city back here!
-
(snorts of laughter) I'll keep that in mind! I've been rather tempted by the dance classes, now that my legs are working more or less correctly (different medical issue).
-
An hour of stairmaster, lots of abs, quite a few lady push ups. Considering weather it's even possible for me to get organized enough to run to work in the mornings. Also ran to the grocery store tonight in the snow.
-
"You kids today have it easy! When I was a young thing with cancer, we had to do our lady push ups in the snow!"
-
Uphill against the wind both ways?
-
But of course! And we only got gruel to eat afterwards.
-
Also, Ksusan, been meaning to tell you your avatar is almost as sexy as mine LOL. Wait, no, your avatar is waaaaaay more sexy than mine. :
-
a nice walk up the hill this morning, not long, but it got my attention.
Tomorrow if it doesn't rain, we are beach-bound. Haven't been there for a long time.
-
19 miles on spin bike. Wind was 20 mph here today, yeah, not going out in that.
-
Well, depends what a person finds sexy.
Went to the new gym to try out "senior cardio," but a utilities glitch had the power on the whole street out. Next time.
-
Who doesn't find Dr. Frankenfurter sexy LOL.
6 mile jog at lunch. Hopefully have time for abs and upper body after work..
-
Jen- reminds me of bacon. BAAAAHAHAHA
-
We never said sexy wasn't dangerous--like bacon.

For those out there who prefer cooler visuals: Dave Brubeck, Take Five

4.5 miles yesterday - some of it in the rain which is super fun since I'm in LA & we never get to do that. Around 3 miles today. Need to step it up.
-
11/1: Fitbit steps + 1.5 hr T (2.5 MPH) = 6.3 miles + stretches
11/2: Fitbit steps + Zumba + .5 hr T (2.5 MPH) = 8.02 miles + stretches + 20 modified military presses
11/3: Fitbit steps = 6.0 miles + stretches + 20 modified military presses + 50 bicep curls [x2] + 10 reclined triceps extension + 150 crunches + 50 dead bugs + 60 sec full yoga plank + 15# lifts [10x3] + 15# lunges & squats [5x1]
11/4: Fitbit steps + Zumba = 5.22 miles + stretches + 25 modified military presses + 50 crunches + 25 dead bugs -
Queen: You haven't known me long enough to hear me bug people about trying Jazzercise and I am not sure where you live but it is a bit easier than Zumba and they do about 35 min of cardio and the rest is weights and stretching. I used to do Zumba and I really liked it but the class I went to was only once a week and it was at Lifetime and they never imposed size restrictions so there wall to wall people so you could barely move without hitting someone or being hit.
-
Trvler: huh. I'll look into Jazzercize--the mix of aerobics AND weights AND stretching sounds like one which would appeal to me. The Y does seem to limit its Zumba classes.
-
Thanks! I'll recommend a DVD I just tried, Walk On: 15-Minute Fast Fat Blasts (Jessica Smith). The video has 4 15-minute routines, demonstrated by 3 people (regular, more vigorous, lower impact) and the moves aren't hard to learn. The first routine gets me about .9 miles on the Fitbit in 15 minutes.
-
thanks Ks- looks good for those rainy days when I don't want to get wet. Ordering now.
-
I also did this one by Leslie Sansome called Walk Away the Pounds when I started back to exercising.
Posted this on Facebook, but felt it was appropriate here too rofl

haha. I keep meaning to ask you about the k2. I am pretty sure you already told me. Forgive me. Why do you take it with D3? Does it have anything to do with calcium? I know you said it helps you absorb the D better.
-
Allison, I take K2 with D3. My understanding is it helps carry the d where it needs to go. T will explain better.
Today I walked 2 miles at the beach,mover 4,000 steps. Felt.so.good. Dang
-
I needed a dose of Jack - thanks Katy!
I picked fruit w/ my food rescue group - 160 pounds in 1.5 hours w/ a helper. Then took a 2h nap.
-
-
Love Jack!
-
Allison, you need K2 with D3 to prevent calcium from going higher. So if your calcium is like 10.3-10.5, it is better to start K2 for a few weeks, then start the vitamin D3 supplementation. If your calcium is in the 9s, it is okay to start D3 and K2 at the same time. They work synergistically together. Too much D without enough K2 can drive calcium higher. And you want calcium in a normal range, not too high. More is not always better
