Beautiful little "Pees"!!!!  I just got my 1st hummingbird feeder - so excited to assemble it tomorrow and watch for new little friends.

I just finished putting up a new hummingbird feeder and swing. My son and his wife gave me a new bird feeder that has solar-powered lights. What on earth is that for?  Any suggestions on how far away I should place that one from the one for the hummingbirds.

We have a hummingbird feeder and a small-bird feeder about 4 ft apart. I'm not sure what the light is for.

I live in Southern Illinois and I saw my first hummingbird today for this season on my patio.  I was so excited.  I also attract lots of cardinals, songbirds and robins in my yard as I have lots of plants and trees.  Each year, I have birds building nest in one of my flower baskets.  None so far this year but last year, a mother robin laid her nest in my most beautiful flower pot on my patio.   Oh how I nursed those birds by staying my distance and letting mom and dad do their job.   I was sad when they grew  big enough to leave their nest.    Poor plant died though since I was so afraid to disturb the eggs then babies, I could not water as it needed.  Loved those birds.   I would love to start cataloging what I see and make this a new hobby of mine   Any ideas!

I noticed that you also joined the *Any Hummingbird Watchers Out there?* thread. Welcome!

I use *The Audubon Society Master Guide to Birding In three volumes* to record the birds seen, but use any off-line and on-line source to identify. I enjoy viewing and listening to birds. So many birds I cannot see but only hear in the trees.

I take lousy photos, but keep trying!

Cornell Univ Ornithology Lab has bird songs. My DS & SIL used "birding by ear" to learn songs. It didn't help me so perhaps for advanced bird people. They made their living working with birds for 20 years.
