Just joining you here, don't know how I missed you.  We have bears so I can't have any feeders and consequently no birds hanging about the house. I sure miss them.

I will enjoy vicariously through you and post if I ever do see a bird here. They are of course here, but far, far up in conifers and, except for our local owls, I never see them swoop down.

He got 5 new species today,Pacific loon,South polar skua,Pomarine Jaeger,Blackfoot albatross,red phalarope.

He was very pleased I will post some of these photos when he finishes downloading etc.

We did both Mission regional park and Balboa today.Tinyfishy wants to Thankyou Elisabeth for the park tip.He just went back this evening to get the woodpecker that only I saw.😄

We love SanDiego thinking of returning for a longer stay next winter.

Now I have my son and daughter in law into watching birds...they just bought me a new solar powered bird feeder, I guess so they can see at night and a swing for hummingbirds...who knew?

I entered this in the county fair photo exhibit. They chose this and an abstract shadow picture for the competition. I love the subject of this, but thought the picture was otherwise kind of plain. I was surprised they picked it!

Have been lurking here, love all the photos. DH is an amateur bird photographer (I am biased and think his stuff is pretty close to professional quality) and we love spending time at our local lake (actually it's a pond!) and I have bird feeders that keep me occupied much like SoCalLisa's! I don't do many photos myself because I am just not fast enough, and DH does such a better job.

Right now I am in the process of learning the difference between turkey vultures and black vultures. They both look so much alike and often are seen together, so it is tough for me - cataracts cut down my vision when it is less than noontime lighting. But I so enjoy the songs.

 We have had red-winged black birds at the base of the feeders - I used to love seeing them on the fence posts in the Midwest where I grew up in "corn country", and now I know they also have a really pretty little song. They aren't too aggressive with the rest of the songbirds. But we have had major wars between blue birds and sparrows over nesting boxes since late April, and unfortunately, the sparrows seem to be winning, even though we clean out any nests before they get a chance to raise any babies, but one slipped through our watchful eyes and chicks hatched, so we let them be.

This is one I actually caught last summer in FL on a morning walk. I use a Cannon Powershot 9.
