Hope everyone who had surgery this week are doing well!
-
Momluke~ Once someone hugs me or gives me empathy I get all emotional too. I try to make lite of everything happening to me. Thinking happy thoughts for you tomorrow
-
Good Luck and Happy Healthy Thoughts to everyone having surgery tomorrow. Momluke, I am very nervous about the day I leave work for my surgery next week and you just proved exactly why
. I really want to call in the last day so I don't have to face everyone, but I guess this isn't all about ME LOL. Gotta let them have their moment too. I will be thinking about you tomorrow, what a journey we are all on. Hugs and God Bless... Brenda -
Hello Everyone~
Firstly, to all of those that have already had surgery. I am sorry I have not been present on this board to offer all of you support. I got wrapped up with my own for awhile.

I hope you're all healing well w/out complications and I hope you're in good spirits on your way to cured!
I am going in for my surgery on Tuesday. Spent the ENTIRE day at Brigham and Women's in Boston. What a flippin day. I had NOOOOOOOO idea how much is involved in this surgery. I am feeling pretty good about it, not too scared anymore, just pump me up with drugs and lop it off. Also, my new plastic surgeon who I love love love, is going to do the implant as a for now surgery, and we'll be going back and doing the abdominal flap at a later date... so I am more excited about that as that procedure gives a more natural appearance and the boobs age with you, as opposed to one drooping and the other staring everyone in the eye. lol
So, for those of us whose date is quickly approaching, I will be sending out good vibes and prayers to all of you.

-
You are lucky to have a husband who loves you so much.
You are going to get through this and you are going to be OK. It is bump in the road and this time next year it will all be ancient history.
-
lumpectomy - did that last December... Admit the SNB injections prior and the wire placement were low points in my life. Just felt so demoralising to me :-( But, having said that it now feels like it was just a mere "blip".
I hope that for all of you doing it now it is a mere "blip" too :-)
Jenn -
Well it is what it is and in an hour that SNB injection will be over and done with!
Marian
-
I am new to the board and will be having Double Mat. on 9/13. That will be four weeks after first mammogram! It has been a crazy rollercoaster that no of asked to get on.
-
Welcome, cjw, who would have ever thought we would be on this September thread for srugery this month! Welcome and hard as it is, it is helpful to find so many women to share and get help from. Off to the hospital in a few minutes!
Marian -
Good morning everyone. Best of luck to you all having surgery and procedures today!
*hugs* to you all and to all of you recovering now, and to all of us! Gentler hugs to those recovering.

Slow moving this morning, I only had iv sedation, but for some reason my right nostril has been swollen, like there is something stuck in there, since yesterday, after the surgery. I finally looked with a flashlight and it's jus the tissue is swollen to fill the passage.
When they called to check on me this morning, I mentioned it, but the nurse said she didn't know, but she would check with the anesthesia people. Strange feeling.
Other than that, I'm feeling tired, but not too bad today. I had a wireplacement and there were 5 people, besides me in the room. It wasn't too painful, but like Jenn said, it was a bit demoralizing. But that part is over now. Now I am just going to have to wait for pathology and see where I go from here.
Peace All
-
Are you home yet?
If that nostril is still stuffed up, try saline, a lot of it. If that doen't work and you don't have high blood pressure, try Afrin. That will do the job, even stop a nosebleed. But just use it once as it does raise blood pressure. Doctors advise it.
Just sayin'. You probably probably already know this.

I was DX aug 16th with RB cancer DCIS i've seen a oncologist, no rad needed. I've seen a PS will be having MX with a SNB and LAT Flap With TE late sept not quiet sure what date yet i will hopefully find out a positive date on the 12th. I just want it over with. I have a 4 and 2 yr old. I'm so afraid i'm not going to be here to see them grow up. my mind is not working right now but i know i have many questions.
-
This is the place to ask your questions. So start any time you want.
You might give your diagnosis. What stage, grade size and hormone status. I hope you have all your pathology reports. If you don't, then get them. Call the doctor. You might fill out the form that you go to at the top right, "my profile."
In the meantime, put away your fears. You are going to be fine and see those precious children grown and on their own. It is completely understandable that you should be very concerned but the odds are with you. We will help you every step of the way.
I hope we hear more from you.
-
On my way home! Surgery went well and chemo starts in few weeks!! In some pain but got meds!! Just wanted everyone to know now I'm going to sleep.
-
Thank you infobabe, i'm home. Slept a lot of the day. Nose is better, still a little swollen, but better. Thanks for the ideas, I did try the saline. Now I'm terrified of the phone call. I shouldn't be, I want to get the news and know what this is. I'm just ...afraid. Breast is awful looking, but not too painful at the moment.
Welcome Robertson, sorry you have to go through this, but you have come to a good place.
-
Sweet dreams ladies, you are all in my prayers this evening!!
-
I'm in my room at MDA and doing well. Ended up not having a fill skin sparing and no TE. PS was concerned about me being so far away if something went wrong during radiation. Oh well cancer is out with clean margins. And genetics came back no BRCA1 or 2!!! So happy about that. I'm thinking I'll keep other breast now, albeit smaller, higher and perkier. Lol
Must say pain tolerable compression bra not a lot of fun though. I hope all surgeries next week go well. We're all strong and can do this!!! -
Sweet dreams to you too Sandlake.
Glad you are on the way home 5Owens and glad everything went well. Rest easy.
Told my BS she could call anytime, she said, even 11pm Friday night, I said, anytime. Now I'm second guessing that choice. I will never sleep now... She said she would call as soon as they called her with the results.
DH has had a hard few days, he took a sleeping pill and is snoring beside me. We are so out of sync since all this started.
-
Hey KnBsAngel, glad you are doing well. Clean margins and good genetics, yay! Take is easy...
gentle hugs and prayers your way
-

Hi Everyone: I have lost two posts so far today but may be due to not being all together "with the program" post op! I think I try to make sure there aren't any mistakes and then click something in the wrong place as in the last one when I did a preview first. So, I did have my lumpectomy, called partial mastecomy on my consent, along with the SNB yesterday. The nuclear med injection was almost painless and lasted only a couple fo seconds; so much for my anxiety over it. The first IV attempt was much worse but thankfully the second one done by the anesthetist was better. My surgeon visited me before I left for home and she found a second small lump about 1 cm from the first and also a couple of the nodes she described as pearly looking; not a good sign I am thinking. It could take as long as 10 business days for my pathology reports but am so happy to have the surgery over with. I had a friend with me and she hung out after I got home until my sons got off work because I felt so awful. Her nurse daugher dropped by too and is coming over on Sunday to take off the first dressing. No showers for a week. It is great to have our young adults sons living at home right now - they both hung out with me for awhile and took good care of me last night. My husband comes home on Monday.
In my first and second posts I wrote individually to you leahlee, KnBsAngel and the5owens, but have now run out of energy. I hope you slept well.
Momluke, I hope all went well for you.
Marian -
leahlee, marianelizabeth, and the 5owens- So good to hear that you are all back home and things are going well.
KnBsAngel- Congrats on negative BRCA1 and 2 tests!! Glad to hear surgery went well.
Trinity0723, Leah_S, and Momluke- Thinking about you-we haven't heard from you since surgery, so I hope you are resting comfortable and have the best, most compassionate nurses and doctors involved in your care. Please let us know how you are doing when you feel up to it.
Gentle hugs to you all!!!

Since I am new and having first ever surgery is there a packing list that would offer suggestions? I got a blanket and pillow, sweats with a zip up jacket, socks...anything else? Thanks!
-
Hello everyone! Newbie here. This is directed more to cthynsh...I understand completely your thoughts on whether you are having the right surgery. I am in the same boat. I had a lumpectomy on Aug. 27 with SNB. My lymph nodes were clear under my arm and my surgeon got clear margins. But the path came back with a lymph node positive right in the edge of his margins. Floored even the surgeon. So now I wonder even more if I did the correct surgery too. The Dr. told me last week that after meeting with the team of doctors and discussing me they all feel the lymph node was gone...hence it showed up to path, and they felt radiation would get cells left. I go to an Oncologist this Monday so hopefully all questions on whether I had correct surgery will be answered and I will finally find out what my future treatment plans are...chemo and radiation probably. I apologize to Sept. surgeries for butting in:-)...I'm a discussion board stalker and have been reading for weeks. I wish you all the best and I hope you all have a smooth recovery.
Oh and cthynsh my situation was so similar to yours...the BRCA decisions etc...my cousins are BRCA 2 positive and the wait is anquishing...I wish you the best in whatever the outcome. Its a long and stressful wait! I had myself prepared for a double mx but everything kept pointing to a lumpectomy...hopefully we both have made the right decisions.
-
Jackson, keep us posted after your oncologist visit and let's hope that you get some good answers. I now have a long wait for my pathology but with a couple of "pearly" looking nodes and an extra lump found yesterday who knows! I have been hoping for just radiation after my lumpectomy....
-
My counts were in an acceptable range. Guess those Neupogen really work! My platelets were a little low this week but not low enough to delay surgery. So surgery on Monday.
Sandlake and Java, almost there. Good luck and prayers to both of you! And everyone else this week if I miss you.
I am worn out. Trying to make sure I get everything done and I have slept horribly the last few nights. Tonight it was a pain pill instead of sleeping pill. My knees, hips and back have been horrible the last few days from the shots.
Haha, thankful that I have to be at the hospital at 7:45 Monday morning. Not too much of the day to stress. Or go without eating!

Wishing all the best to the September 2012 Surgery Ladies...
I saw your thread and read through. My surgery was August 2011 and the August Surgery group was my first contact with BCO.
It is a wonderful thing to look back on a year gone by already. It does go fast.
I just want to sent positive thoughts and prayers for each of you as you face this life interruption and fears of the unknown. When I think of the things I endured, some were so hideous I was sure that a man had invented them (the tracer injections, wire placement, blue dye....who would have imagined?) That said, it is do-able if you don't look too far ahead - I had to look at what the next day brings and be sure to have all your questions asked before you agree to anything. There are choices.
I noted that there are some ladies here who are having second rounds of surgeries...it is true that things can change or our choices can change...but once our decisions are made, there is a strange peace about it all. And path results are a good thing...we need to know the truth so we can make our best choices.
MLiz, not sure where you are from, but I am from L.I. and I have never heard of the laser procedures. If you have any links to this information, you can send PM to me.
Here's to each of you being cancer-free and having a quick recovery. If you can, take your time. I went back to work after lumpectomy in 7 days - I just did not want to be sick. I worked through rads. By April/May, I was really feeling overextended in every area of my life. I guess I couldn't have done it any other way.
I'll be thinking of you...I just wish none of you had to join BCO ... but I am so glad we are not alone.

Hi ladies, congrats to all the women that have come through their surgery. I have a question-did any of you have chemo prior to surgery? I had 4 rounds of dose dense AC (I am trip neg) and am wondering how this affects pathology reports? I am meeting my surgeon this wk but just curious. Thinking of you all xxx
-
I just wanted to add my good thoughts to all you having your surgeries this month. I was diagnosed with DCIS grade 3 er/pr negative on August 16, and had a BMX, SNB (3 nodes were removed) on September 5, with immediate placement of TEs. I was scared out of my mind about the surgery, but the anesthesiologist gave me a sedative beforehand, and the next thing I knew, it was over and I was in my room. Surgery went great, no complications. I highly recommend the sedative if you are very anxious. Oh, be prepared for green pee in your catheter bag! It's from the blue dye, and was a bit of a shock for me!
I know your nerves are frazzled, but hang in there. You are not alone.
Hugs to all!
