September 2012 Surgery

leahlee ~ I will be in Lansing for surgery and pre-op this morning. I am fortunate I can stay with my daughter, so no driving back and forth. Today after pre-op I think we'll do a little shopping, she is off work from a shoulder surgery in July.
Best wishes for you this week my friend

Cyndi

Thank you ohiobecky and sweet caroline for your encouraging words.
I posted a question on the LE forum but I just wanted to ask the ladies here what your drs are advising about SLB and risks for LE?
Good luck this week-Trinity, Leah_S , leahlee , KnBsAngel, marianelizabeth, the5owens andMomluke
Thinking of all of you and wishing you a speedy recovery!
-
Trinity, will be thinking of you today! Leah_S, you will now be at the hospital as I think you said you needed to be admitted the night before. I just got home from Turkey yesterday so am on your time - jet lag and up very early! I will be thinking of you both. leahlee, I had to use lumpectomy too though my surgical consent says partial mastectomy.
Three days to go for mine - four of us I think on Friday.
Marian -
hello ladies
(hi jenn from the triple positive forum!) im with you on wanting these puppies off asap...im on the cancellation list for sept so heres hoping i get an earlier surgery date
for those of you with younger children (mine are 9 and 12, both boys) what did you tell them about your surgery? I initially had a lumpectomy so that was easy to "hide" and they were none the wiser as to the body part that was having surgery. Now with the mastectomy/drains etc im not sure if I should explain to them? im scared it will freak them out but how do i hide this? The know im having surgery because i will be in the hospital for 3 nights
thoughts?
momtobe - congratulations, in the BC nightmare your baby will be your shinning light

It's official, September is here, the countdown begins! Good luck to Trinity, Leah S, leahlee, KnBsAngel, marianelizabeth, Steph (the5Owens), and Momluke!!! I will be thinking of you this week.
I went shopping over the weekend and bought several button down pjs. I didn't buy any sports bras because I'm not really sure if I'll need them. I'll have to ask the nurse when I see her today for my pre-op appointment.
This is our month!!!
Laura

Leah_S- Thinking of you and sending you lots of love and prayers today and as you recover. May God hold you in his hands today and guide the hands of your doctors. I hope your pathology report comes back better than expected and your recovery is quick with a minimum of discomfort.
-
If the doctors gave you the possible complications caused by rads, no one would have them. I believe we are put on a freight train that is hard to get off.
I was never able to see my RO. I was told to wait until my appointment. Appointment came and I was told you can talk to him after the simulation. Finally.......I got to talk to him at length and he did not settle my concerns because he could not. So I cancelled rads.
Since then I have found out even more complications that can start weeks, months or years later. I know a woman who got COPD and lung nodules from her rads. Her doctor said rads were the cause. Another has trunk lymphedema from rad damaged nodes.
Pardon my rant but I remember your throat being zapped. There is another woman in Australia who has even worse throat zaps. Many get abdominal exposure leading to nausea. Poor positioning says my one doctor.

Lets ROCK the month of September!
-
I had a call from my PS's secretary to say it's "all systems go" and to prepare for 19th.vi had my pre-op appointment today where I had ECG, bloods etc and photos taken. I felt like a topless model! I came away feeling kind of 'excited' knowing that everything is being planned and scheduled for two weeks' time. Then I remember what I'm having done and why! I guess I am just wanting it over and done with so I can get back to normal again, not to mention the fact that I want this beast out of me NOW!
Good luck to all those having surgery this week. -
Best wishes for tomorrow Leah! Prayers to you.
Sounds like maybe a 50/50 shot that I may go as scheduled on the 10th. Did not sound too promising when I talked to my oncology nurse today. Neupogen shots tomorrow, Thursday and Friday. Hopefully they get my white counts into an acceptable range by Friday.

Good luck tomorrow!!! Thought, prayers. And hugs!!'
Mumtobe-
Welcome. Glad u found us! U r very busy!!!! God bless !! -
Hello Everyone,
I had a double mastectomy Aug 2 nd with lymph node removal and the surgery was a a breeze . The tubes were uncomfortable and sleeping was very tuff for me because I always slept on side . Doing much better now and starting chemo and rads after. You guys will do great make sure you have very loose clothing . Make sure that you also ask for clips for your bra they give you to wear . Those tubes can get caught sometimes -
Having my morning coffee reading through the post. Thank you to Everyone for sharing feelings, may we all find comfort during this difficult time!
I really appreciate the ladies who have been through this joining in and offering advice. Thank You
-
Good luck to all! I'm leaving today for Houston for surgery. Hope everyone has an easy time of it and quick recoveries.

KnBsangel- Thinking of you as you travel to Houston. I hope your surgery and recovery go smoothly and that your results far exceed your expectations.
Marianelizabeth- Wishing you a quick and easy recovery from your surgery and good results on your SNB.
the5owens- Hoping that your lumpectomy is simple and even a smaller procedure than you had dared to hope.
Momluke- I hope that you are surrounded by the best care- doctors and nurses- for your surgery and post-op care and that all goes well.
Sending you all positive thoughts and prayers.
-
Trinity and Leah, hope you are recovering well. I'm at the sug center now, have to have a wire placed first, surgery later. Thank you all for your thoughts and wishes.

Update: wire in waiting for surg.....
See you all on the other side -
I had laser breast surgery last week by Dr. Vincent Ansanelli in Plainview NY to excise a suspicious area on the chest wall. He does even mastectomies as an office procedure under twilight sleep. I had a more superficial excision on the other breast at MSKCC last year and it was very physically traumatic. CO2 laser surgery eliminates most of the trauma by limiting the bleeding. It also limits the possibility of escape cells during the surgery. I needed no pain medication after the procedure. I left 30 minutes after a deep breast excision and went to lunch, as opposed to having to be aided to a waiting car more than one hour after the excision at Sloan. I slept well without any medication and felt like myself by the next day. His staff is excellent and I could not be happier with the whole process - and I experienced the other side only one year ago. Laser surgery needs to be promoted. It is a well-kept secret by those who do not want to simplify the process. Women need to be informed. His patients fly in from places as remote as Hawaii because this care is not available anywhere else
My pathology was benign with potentially pre-cancerous cells. I am so glad there was no possibility of spreading the atypical cells during the procedure.
-
MLiz-
Thanks for the feedback on your surgery. Congrats on the benign results and on catching those pre-cancerous cells early. I am happy to hear that your experience was a good one, considering the circumstances. Hope the rest of your recovery goes as well. Love and prayers.
To all who had surgery this week-
Please post to us after your surgery and let us know how you are doing. Your surgery buddies are thinking about you and ready to support you.
-
Leahlee-

Knbsangel, 5owens, and momluke: it is our turn! I am so ready to get this over with and then on to the next step. I will think of you as I fall asleep and hope to hear good things in the next few days.
Marian -
Hope everyone is travelling well after surgery or in prep. Thinking of you often during my work day! Four of you today... It will be quiet around here for a few days I'm thinking since you will all be otherwise occupied.

Wow! So many of us are having surgery next week. For some reason I can't shake the blues today. I spent my lunch hour crying in my car. I allow myself to have crying spells from time to time when I'm alone in my car. I usually feel better afterwards, but it's not working today. I had my pre-op appt yesterday. It was very uneventful, they took some blood and asked a few questions. I still want to rent the hospital bed for my recovery. I'm working on that process. I had surgery to fix two disks on my lower back several years ago, so I'm afraid I'll have a hard time getting up during the time I won't be able to use my arms. If all goes well, I'll be spending this weekend relaxing with my kids and hopefully not thinking about breast cancer. Did I tell you that having cancer sucks?
-
Yes Laura cancer sucks!! But we got this!! I am getting ready for in the morning...don't know if I'm more worried about SNB or lumpectomy!! Hang in there!!
-
the5owns, SNB injection is my biggest worry!
-
Well....by this time tomorrow I will be finished with my surgery and on the road to recovery. My emotions have been all over the place! My co-workers took me out to lunch and we laughed and had a great time. I was good and didn't shed a tear until one of them messed around and gave me a hug! Why did she have to go and do that! The water works began and I cried the whole way home!
Then I had to go to my last pre-op. I asked my hubby if he had any questions he wanted to add to my list. His reply...a tidal wave of tears and emotions! We cried together but by the time we got to the dr's we were in full belly laughs!
I am so ready to finally get this over with. I have filed an eviction notice to this cancer and I want it gone!
I hope to be able to post my post operative report soon!
Thank u ladies for all of your support, warm wishes and your prayers!
Smooches for now!!
