September 2012 Surgery

Mumtobe, I've had my drains in since my surgery last Wednesday, and honestly they're not as bad as I thought they would be. My husband empties them and strips the tubing, and it isn't painful at all. Just don't accidentally pull the tubes cause that hurts! Stay strong!
-
What are you all doing for sleeping post surgery - most people have suggested a recliner but that it would need to be a power one. We looked around a little yesterday but I can't find something I really LOVE to make that investment in (we are actually in the market for furniture within the next year or so). I might have access to a hospital bed but it would need a new mattress (and that is if we got ahold of it and it was in decent shape).
I just can't seem to make ANY decisions.
-
I wish we had a recliner! I have mounds of pillows stacked around me so I can stay in a mostly upright position. The first couple of nights it was okay, most likely cause the Percocet zonked me out, but now it's not so great. I bought a wedge shaped foam pillow, but find it too hard and uncomfortable to use. I can sleep on the non-reclining chair in the living room, but am afraid one of the dogs will try to climb on me. Hope someone has good suggestions!

Thanks for all of your prayers and for thinking of me. It has made me feel stronger going through BC and surgery to have all of you September ladies to share with.
Tzia, mrskimber47, SAR843-
I will be thinking of you and praying for all of us while waiting for surgery on my gurney in the AM (I'm scheduled for 7:30 in the morning). Praying the all of our surgeries go smoothly, without any unwanted surprises. I am feeling strangely peaceful and relieved to have my surgery so close- all of the decisions that tormented me- until I finally chose what was safest and right for me- have been made. I have confidence in my surgeons and the hospital staff will give me the best humanly possible procedure and results.
Sandlake, ohiobecky, and java11- I hope your recovery is proceeding more smoothly than you could have wished and you are relieved to have the surgery behind you.
Mumtobe- I'm sending prayers that God blesses your precious little one and helps him/her? to grow and mature so that he will be ready to greet to big outside world.
Trinity0723, Leah-S, Amdrea623, leahlee, KnBsAngel, marianelizabeth, the 5owens, and Momluke- thinking of you all, too, and hoping you are doing well.
Thanks for all of the support from my September surgery sisters.
God Bless us all!!
-
Sweetcaroline - My surgery is scheduled for 7:30am as well. I've been saying I feel peaceous (a mix of nervous and peace). I think I'm just the right amount of nervous, and I'm just trying to to stay calm. I'm getting my stuff packed up and my mom and I are staying at a hotel near the hospital tonight. I'm hoping it'll feel like a little vacay, haha. Good luck to you, Tzia, mrskimber47, and all of us September gals!
-
I am sending good thoughts and prayers to all who are having surgery tomorrow. There is a wonderful support system here. I wish I had found this thread before I had my surgery. Please let us know how you're doing when you can. Peace and strength to all of you!

OOoOOOhh my my BS just called and my pathology is Benignnn!!!!!! oh god
how can this be. she said its so rare but not impossible to have a FNA be positive and then
biopsy B9!! it's Fibroadenoma ....I am in shock, I cant call my husband right now
I had to tell someone
I cant believe it
-
Ok, I posted too soon today - my PS called and he will not put in the TE's after my BMX since I have to have radiation (have already had chemo so rads will start about 4 weeks post surgery) He says the result wouldn't be good so I am back to square one regarding reconstruction. No idea where to go from here but I will be finding another PS - this guy just seemed like a basic implant dr and I don't think he does any of the other surgeries.
Good luck to all having surgery this week and congrats leahlee
-
Leahlee!!!!
CONGRATS!!!! CHEERS!!!
Happy dance!! Yahoo!!! -
leahlee, that is so fantastic and thank you for posting right away! And it was not too much info when you answered my questions yesterday and then you hoped for the results today. So this is exactly what they were thinking from the FNA, right for the node? As for the lumpectomy itself, the results? Sorry if I have this wrong, just not sure.
Marian -
Thanks Thanks for the congrats!
Marian, There were two FNA, one from the mass and one from an intramammary lymph node, just a lymph node in the breast tissue, not an SN. The positive FNA was from the mass, which is what they just took out, with some margin. But pathology on the whole mass is b9, Fibroadenoma. The lymph node was benign on the FNA, so it was not removed, at least as far as I understand. I asked for clear clarification and at this time there is no Cancer that we know of. She is still sending me for genetic counseling and probable testing based on my history and also MRI screening, due to density of breasts, etc.... But for now I'm good!!!!
Still haven't told hubby, he's teaching, he's a prof. I tried his cell, it's off for class! arggggggg
going crazy

Oh good luck to everyone having surgery tomorrow and I hope all you ladies are resting easy tonight, that had surgery today. I am going to keep praying and sending out peace and love your way!
-
kltb04 my PS at MDA seemed big on implants too. I'm going to see what he says after radiation but I'm also considering going to NOLA for a second opinion and MDA PS didn't even talk about DIEP but tram mostly. I was upset about not getting the TE at first but now kinda ok with it since the recovery so far is easy.
-
KnBsAngel - I wish I was closer to NOLA...I am in central AR so it's quite a haul and with the kids and all, I just can't commit to that. Hope I can find someone I have confidence in...guess I have some time to shop around!
-
NOLA is sooo much closer for than MDA so I'm happy about that if I end up going with them. But your right seems as if theres plenty of time to shop around for who and what will make US the happiest!
-
leahlee, thanks for the clarification and wow, that is even more awesome with all b9! I bet you can't wait to tell your husband and there should be a celebration tonight! My husband just got home from Turkey half an hour ago but is already looking at "projects" with one of our sons. I got home a week ago so not long apart but he got to see my new blue boob for the first time just now. Am hoping for good news too but it won't be as soon as yours - actually I am OK with it since I had to wait all those weeks for surgery this is not bad.
Again, congratulations and have a wonderful evening with your husband.
Marian -
Hugs to all of the Tuesday ladies. You can rock this!
I am doing well, I was in my room by 3. Waiting on my bedtime pain medicine. Cathether is out. They have emptied the drains 3 times. I have been up a couple of times now. Just struggling to stay awake for the pain pills. So much easier to stay on top of the pain than try to catch up.
I have been pretty itchy. Face, head and stomach and back. Some of it is the pain pills, some the compression bra.
Time to try the bathroom. Just got the pills. I have 2 hours before they come back for my antibiotics. Going to try to squeeze in some sleep.
Again, good luck to everyone. Hope everyone is doing well! -
Congrats, Leahlee! That's great news!
Ohiobecky, glad to hear you're doing so well.
And good luck to those having surgery today! -
That is the best news. It was looking so grimm for so long. What a journey. I am so glad you wnt down to AA. At times things were looking worse, but now, wow. Yours was a real mystery and it took experts to figure it out.
There is a lot of breast conditions that are not cancer. I hope you can get back on track with our education.

Thoughts and prayers with SweetCaroline2, Tzvia, mrskimber47 and SAR843, especially today!
Healing, peaceful wishes to everyone recovering.
Thank you all for your wishes for me, I feel so very blessed, I cannot tell you. I have met and read about
so many brave women here over the past weeks, while I rode this roller coaster.
I will read back and catch up on how everyone is. Marian, I hope you got that dressing off and are feeling more comfy now, oh and less blue boob!
. Any news on your pathology yet? I'm rooting for you!!Ohiobecky, how are you today? Itching better I hope, those pain meds do that to me too, sometimes they can give you something, I think even plain benadryl will help. Course it also makes you sleepier.
Hope we hear from Sandlake and java11 soon.
Infobabe, thank you sooo much, you've been with me all through this. Yes, time to focus on school. I dropped all but one course, and can't really get back, so I will have to make it up, probably over the summer. And I'm glad I went to UoM too, and will be doing some genetic testing and MRI, etc... there. But it's a good day, today.
Peace to all you September Sisters, remember You got this!!
-
Hope all u girls with recent surgeries are healing well!!!

Came home from the hospital today. I'm doing pretty well.
So far the drains have not been too bad. The most aggravating thing to me about the drains is they stick to my skin. Kind of the sensation of your legs on a car seat in hot weather.
I am especially glad I brought a pair of shorts to the hospital. After they took the cath out I put the shorts on and didn't really worry about the gown being open in the back.
I iced for almost 12 hours straight. I don't really have too much pain. I feel pretty bruised though.
Hope those little bits help someone else. Sandlake and Java hope you are doing well.
Good luck to everyone! The anticipation was definitely the worst part of it. -
You sound good Becky! So glad everyone is coming through OK :-)
Sitting at my pre-op clinic!

Btw, great news Leahlee! So happy for you!
-
I am having a double mastectomy on the 25th!
-
Jewelry girl-
I'm so scared to look at myself after surgery. My breasts are large (DD) and I can't imagine them not being there. I thought maybe I would try not looking until the reconstruction process was complete. I am having TEs. My BMX is Sept. 25th.
-
Surgery is coming up. I am at peace with it. I just want them off and the cancer out of me. I have been told that I am in denial about what it is going on with me and that I haven't accepted everything. I am ready with a bed rest pillow, a blanket, button up sleepers, slippers, sleeper pants for the hositpal, little pillow for the ride home, and family here to help with the girls and me. I have had a whole lot of people come to help, bring food, willing to go to Dr appts with me, etc. It has been amazing!
I am nervous about the surgery, but who won't be! Sending prayers for all those that have surgery today, tomorrow, Thursday and Friday. Will check in tomorrow, too. Surgery is thursday.
-
I am having a bmx. I have DCIS in my left breast that completely took it over. My cancer did not show up on a mammogram or ultrsound, it was only found through a MRI. Maybe you can ask for the MRI. Good luck

Added you Teri. Welcome to the club none of us really want to be in...

Your situation is very similar to mine! I also have DCIS in my left breast and I am having a BMX with TEs and reconstruction. My surgery date is Sept 25th and I was told the surgery would take 5-6 hours.
