Thanks! Doing well. I am pretty black and blue, but glad I went ahead with both procedures.
-
Have a fantabulous recovery!
-
Thanks, GalSal! Hopefully this is the last surgery for a long, long time. Doing well, though. I have one drain & it should come out on Monday. My knee is all wrapped up so I have not seen it yet. I will see it Monday when the ortho changes out the bandages.
-
dll - at least you don't have a drain in your knee! Right?
-
Ha! No, thank goodness!
-
All - I will not be at the 6/21 gathering - I have an unexpected trip out of town, from Thursday to the following Tuesday. I am bummed since I also missed the last one!
-
oh no...you'll be missed SpecialK!!!
-
SpecialK, sorry not to see you this get together. Are you healing up better after your surgeries? Hope your trip goes well.
Dll, surgeries too! Hope you heal up quickly! Do you have to be on crutches for awhile? I don't know much about knee surgery but I had a couple of ligament tears in my ankle. Not fun, especially the time on the crutches.
I'm stressing a little tonight...I did some gardening yesterday and managed to get either some mosquito bites or maybe gnat bites?...9 of them on my LE arm. 7 of them are clustered right by my armpit just above the LEsleeve edge where my skin is still numb. Probably why I didn't feel the bugger! I am trying so hard not to itch any of them.
-
Awww...sorry that we will miss you, SpecialK.
Lee7, I don't have to use crutches, thank goodness. Ligament tears sound painful. Hope you have some calamine lotion on hand.
-
Yes, I am bummed that I will miss you all too! Bad timing for me!
lee7 - take some antihistamine, like Benedryl. Also, topical Benedryl. I have had the occasional bite or two on my LE arm - apparently I am delicious to insects - and have had no problems.
-
check and check.
I've got the calamine lotion (by Aveeno) which is helping and I am taking my antihistamine. The bites aren't as bad tonight and look more like an ant did it.
Are we going to be doing a potluck for the 21st?
-
DLL and SpecialK, are you both healing up?
-
I am. Thanks for asking, GalSal! SpecialK, hope all is going well with you this time around.
I get the stitches removed from my knee next Monday. I had tears in 2 of the menisci and I think the ortho removed the plical band. I am pretty sore & black & blue from the other surgery but very pleased with the early results. Back to work on Friday...
-
Hi ladies. I'm so sorry to hear of your troubles Special K. Praying for you.
I don't get on here often and this is off topic, but I'm not sure where to go to connect with you Tampa area ladies. Does anyone know a retailer who carries a wide variety of mastectomy swimwear? I want to find a bikini top that covers my chest good. The place I go to for bras says they can special order, but no returns. I know the sizes vary way too much to risk that. The one piece I have is so hot I can't take it. I know I could sew in a pocket, but just can't find anything that wouldn't show the gaping cave in my chest. I'm willing to drive an hour or 2 for a great selection.

Leanne, the catalog co. Lands End sells bathing suits with and without built in prosthetics. They have 10 styles online and they say you can return anything. They sell lands end at Sears stores so they might have some of those suits at a Sears store to try on.
I know what you mean about suits being too hot. I bought one before Bc that I loved but found out it was too scratchy and hot when I wore it to the beach. Once, and that was it for me!
-
SpecialK, we will miss you again! I hope you are doing well and progressing through the healing process succcessfully
DLL66, glad to hear you are doing well and pleased with outcomes. I look forward to seeing you this month.
-
Leanne -
I buy mine from Lands End as Lee7 mentioned. They have several mastectomy tankini top options and then tons of mix and match options for the bottoms. I normally purchase from online several sizes and then just return to a Sears store the ones that don't fit. (Most of the stores don't carry the mastectomy suits in store). I also have used the Women's Personal Health Resource for some other products and they have swimwear too. I've never bought any swimwear from them though.
-
I am doing very well - removing the implant was what was needed to facilitate the healing. Once it was out the skin closed almost immediately and everything is just fine!
Leanne - All About You Boutique on Henderson in Tampa has a bunch of swimwear - was just there for a mastectomy bra fitting. They are great there! Here is the link, but the prefix on the phone is not 867, rather 876. Also Nordstrom will sew a pocket into any swimwear they sell for free, so if you go there and find a suit you like they will hook you up
dll - I had meniscus removal the summer after I graduated from high school. I had a less than stellar recovery from that surgery but eventually regained equivalent strength. I have never had another problem with that knee, even through aromatase inhibitor joint pain. Your long term prognosis is great so it is a good surgery to have if it solves the problem. I have skied, run half marathons, etc. - no issues.
-
So glad to hear that you are healing up, SpecialK!
I am going back to work tomorrow. I am not 100% yet, but I scheduled someone else with me the first 2 days & will be sure not to overdo it.
-
dll -I was healed in less than a week, no problem once the implant was out! Be careful - can you drive?
-
MondaysChild, will we be doing a potluck Saturday? I am planning on bringing a chocolate dessert but let me know what else I can bring. Here's hoping for a sunny afternoon! We should get one after all this rain we've been having.
-
So looking forward to a Luncheon!
-
Lee7, I have a simple menu worked out, figuring it was easier for people to travel that way, but your chocolate dessert will be the perfect addition. Plan is: chicken tetrazzini, spinach salad, finger sandwiches, brandied fruit salad, a simple cheesecake. Iced tea, soda choices, mimosas. A few nimblies for before.Chocolate was the missing ingredient and you solved!
-
Chocolate is my best friend !
The menu sounds delicious... I can't wait!
-
Looking forward to seeing everyone Saturday!
-
I already miss you all!
-
Monday's child, may I come to the lunch? I believe I may have (miraculously) managed an outing! Live two hours away; will be driving down to you. Please advise! Can't wait to see everyone. Will miss Special K!
xx Bobo
-
My DH has ended up having to work on Saturday - ughhh - he was going to be my ride and drop me off and then go visit his boys! I am not comfortable driving up there by myself in my current chemo induced stupidity LOL. If my DD is available to drive me is it okay if she comes along - she wouldn't really have anything to do while we were together.
-
bobogirl, we will love having you join us! PM me and I will give you address and directions.linda505, your daughter is most welcome. Please feel free to bring her.
-
Hi All,
So looking forward to Saturday. SpecialK, you will be missed for sure! Has anyone heard from FLWarrior? I pm'd her a few weeks ago but haven't heard from her. And I believe Firework is out of town? Anyway, lots to catch up on and see how everyone is doing, it has been a year for me.
