OMGoodness, Susan! tTose sweaters and sweater dress are beautiful!!! You're very good at your craft and your grandchildren will look adorable in them, especially the green bunny ears--too cute!

Mombie--this summer will fly by and you'll soon be hugging your missionary, too. Enjoy every email and all the blessings from having a missionary. My husband made a funny comment after finding out this morning that his truck may have a crack in the block (expensive fix). He said, "Well, Jake is done with his mission so I guess we're out of extra blessings :) " At least we could laugh about it and know that our van will get us to AZ tonight (hopefully!). Have a good weekend everyone--Friday is almost here!!!

Joanne--Funny story! This one's different but on a similar vein. My father in law was getting on in years and having a lot of health issues. We were getting worried about him living much longer. Interestingly, he and my mom in law were called into the stake president's office one night. He was 75 with health issues, had served as a bishop twice, a high counselor, and was a mission president in Norway, and now he was being asked to be a bishop again, for a ward with a lot of problems and little man power. After the interview and accepting the calling, they sat out in the car for a bit in stunned silence. Then my father in law turned to his wife and said, "Well, I guess I'm going to live for at least five or so more years!" They had a good laugh and went home.

I hope the truck gets you there!!

Our son is having the time of his life on that mission. I almost feel guilty for wanting him home, but I know the summer will blow by and then he'll be home. We only get him for 3 weeks and then he'll be off to BYU. Will your son have to go soon too?

Glad to see everyone still posting and sharing fun stuff! (Ray--I would totally take Susan up on that offer to make Jacob a sweater!) Wow--Mombie! That story of your FIL shows a true example of wearing your life out in service and enduring to the end! Bless his heart for accepting another call as bishop. We get to keep our son till he goes back to BYU-I in the Fall, but he may take a selling job out of state. We're enjoying every minute with him and had a marvelous experience attending the Gilbert and Phoenix temples with him and visiting so many wonderful people he taughter, served and baptized. We were overwhelmed with the love and gratitude so many people showed our son and thanked us for raising him in the gospel so he could serve a mission. His Spanish is amazing and will help him continue to serve others in his future job and schooling. Here's a pic of us at the Mesa Temple visitor's center.

To give you perspective, lest you think I'm short, I'm 5'9" and my husband is almost 6'9". Jake's mission president, however, is 7 feet tall! When we met him, it was quite a different experience for my husband to literally look UP to someone--ha! Anyway, we are happy to have our son home and see all the growth he's had, spiritually and mentally. I love walking by his room and seeing him studying the scriptures in the morning and reading inspirational books at night before bed. He still has the same, quirky sense of humor that catches us off guard, and he still loves to talk our ear off, but it's all good :)

    Love to all!

Ray--your room will be available sooner than you think if Jake goes to Minnesota to sell pest control in a couple of weeks. We'll see if that's where he'll be assigned. So proud of you for running those stairs again--keep up the good work!

Susan--thanks for thinking I look short. I've always wanted to look more petite, so that's why I married such a tall guy ;)

Mombie--you must be taking a break from BCO. Hope you're OK! Please check in with us, soon. Maybe we need to all be on Facebook together, too?. Here's my FB profile if you want to add me: Joanne Gudmundsen Vorkink. It's a mouthful!

It's our 34th wedding anniversary today! Celebrated last night at an Italian restaurant that was way too expensive, but we had a $25 coupon so we didn't feel quite so guilty. Here are some pics. The dish I had was served with "the leaning tower of Pisa" made out of a very thin and crispy flat bread, nestled in my mashed potatoes. Clever and tasty!

    image

Here's a pic of the cute dessert they gave us:

    image

The yellow square on the end was a mango cheesecake-type dessert with a thin layer of cake on the bottom. Wish it was a bigger serving, but this was a free dessert so I appreciated it, just the same.....then we went home and dove into Ben and Jerry's "Phish Food" ice cream--yum!

Happy Mother's Day weekend to all with lots of love!

I'm back! Thanks for missing me. Hawaii was more wonderful than I hoped for--it's like Heaven watched over every detail. I'll try to post some pics later. I just got in and I'm nine kinds of exhausted. (but happy)

Joanne--love your recent pics and posts. So glad your boy is back and doing well. You are a tall bunch! My DH's family is tall and our son is 6'4", but he looks little when we go to a family reunion. Of course he's a giant in Mexico. LOL And Happy Anniversary!!

I love the facebook idea. Sent you a friend request--Sara McNabb Tveten. I welcome requests from anyone in our group. Thanks

    Hello to Susan and Ray!

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY! (we skype with our missionary tomorrow--can't wait!)

So glad you're OK and had a wonderful time in Hawaii, Sara! (Is is OK that I use your real name, now that I know it?). Enjoy your time skyping with your missionary one last time! Looking forward to your pictures. Get some good sleep tonight!

I never realized there were other LDS here!

Perhaps a bit OT but we are under Blizzard Warnings (yes there is a Blizzard Warning on May 9 - 10) and I just got a call from HT and text from VT that Church is canceled tomorrow as Highway Patrol says 'no travel advised'.

Tatting is easy - I learned when I was about 4 - 5. I have taught/talked several through learning to tat. Knitting makes no sense to me though many have tried to teach me.

Welcome, Kicks! We're glad you've found us. I sometimes do a search using the words, "Mormon" and "LDS" just to see if there are other sisters that would like to join us. Usually I come up with ladies who are chatting about seeing the B of Mormon Musical--ha! Anyway, so sorry you didn't get to go to church on Mother's Day, Kicks. Hope you stayed cozy at home and did some things that brought you spiritual peace :) Lots of storms again in other states, including Colorado where my niece is so sick of snow. I think Ray had 90 degree weather in Ohio then a snow storm the next day. Crazy!!! So. Calif. seems to be steady with a little rain but mostly warm weather. Oh, how we need more rain! Rationing is coming, soon. So much for my veggie garden this year.

Hope all had a great weekend! I just finished watching some wonderful videos on Mormonchannel.org with my son, then we did something dumb and topped it off with watching silly cat videos :/ I can't believe how I get sucked into watching them!!!

    Love to all :)

Welcome Kicks :) (we were just talking about friending on facebook--send me a request too if you like--Sara McNabb Tveten)

Skype with my Gabriel was great. Mother's Day was great. Feeling blessed and spoiled!

Yes, you are welcome to use my name--Joanne and any others who wish.

Kicks, I can't believe you are having blizzard conditions! That's hard to picture when I'm surrounded with spring flowers and green everywhere. I hope you stay safe.

My kids surprised me with cute things this Mother's Day. Romina made me a necklace pendant. Gideon made me a twelve inch tall origami angel--with wings, outstretched arms, halo, long hair and a pleated skirt, and all made from a single piece of paper. She is standing on a shelf now, with a fake candle under the dress to light her up. Mosiah wrote me the tenderest of love letters and gave it to me with tears in his eyes. He feels things very deeply. I think this was the best Mother's Day I've ever had!

OK--time to catch up on all the things I wasn't doing while away in Hawaii. Back to real life! Happy Monday Sisters!

No, he is not A/D Navy any more - May 25th will be 20 yrs since he retired. Seems impossible that this Dec we will have been married 40 yrs.

Almost all the snow melted today but they are saying that we may have minor creek flooding later this week. We did need the moisture as we are drier than should be and have already had a couple of fires. Also need moisture for pastures and haying.

40 years? That's awesome Kicks. We made it to 22 years last Feb. Hope the flooding isn't too drastic.

Susan--great picture. I've never seen a group painting night like that before. Looks super fun.

Hello and hugs to all. :)

You look great and what a beautiful painting, Susan!!! Glad you had fun with your church group :) I'm with you, Ray--I don't think Mark would go for an art class with me.

Jake gives his homecoming talk this Sunday, then flies to Minnesota on Tuesday to sell pest control all summer. Can't believe he's leaving again so soon!

A week ago on Mother's Day, Church was canceled because of the blizzard. Yesterday, after the Speakers, Bishop spoke about 'Mothers'. We are all 'mothers' to so many - is not 'biologic' but what is needed at times (for them or us). I have 2 biologic Sons but I have s lot of Sons that are my Sons.

Yes, I feel the same way about Motherhood. It's part of who we are spiritually. I have lots of "extra" sons and daughters. Love them all. Wise Bishop to speak of mothers in that way.

Hi to you, too, Susan, and everyone else!

Mamaray is reviewing her notes tonight for the talk she's giving in church tomorrow. Keep her in your prayers that she's calm and lead by the spirit to speak from her heart :) I have faith that her message to the congregation will be just what the Lord wants it to be :)

    Happy Memorial Day weekend, everyone!

Thanks for checking in, Ray! You are a trooper to work so hard on your kitchen, knowing you will be down for a bit after your treatments. Hope you can take it easy and bounce back, soon. And what about "First Call" ? I'll have to check and see when the last time he was on BCO. Hope he's OK. Piano student due in a few minutes--have a good day, everyone!

I have to admit that we do not actually do a Family Evening. I'm in a bit of a different 'situtation' than many though. It is only Hubby and I who are home - boys are in their 30's and live a long way from here. Also Hubby is not a member. He does support me in/with anything I want/need to do with Church. We feed the Elders or Sisters often. I k
