Hi everyone I'm just posting here today (for now) I'm pretty quiet today--Yes my cat is laying right next to me and our dog is sitting next to me???
Never made the cookies, my DD forgot to buy something so we'll go for it tomorrow, but I heard these are good so we'll see, Joey had everything out too. So... he was kind of sad, but I really wasn't I didn't feel like acting all fun and happy--no real reason, just one of those days so I'm reading some but not really doing much else today. But when I come here I know I can say that I'm just not going good today. But it'll pass.
-
My cats are not cuddlers. My Copper is sitting next to me on the sofa now and Mac is on top of the laundry, LOL.
Camill, I am glad you n you kitty made up.
What cookies did I miss the post? I am in the mood for eating cookies just not making them. I wish we all could do a cookie exchange!
Big Hugs to all -

Hi hermit friends! Just popping in to see how everyone is. I'm having a lazy day today too. Just don't seem to feel like doing anything. So I'm sitting in the recliner watching the birds chow down on the bird seed I put out under the fir trees so the snow won't cover it.
My kitty is only a cuddler when he wants to be. I'll be in the recliner with the puter on my lap and he will want up. So I move the puter to the arm of the chair and he will curl up for hours on my lap. Problem is I usually can't sit still that long, so when I do get up, he "owns" the recliner and will be there several more hours and I am relegated to the love seat. -
Hi hermits- my end of the weekend check with you. I had a lovely day today experiencing some music at a friends church up in the mountains nearby. Karen has been one of my greatest supporters during my medical issues the past year, and I was part of her church's prayer circle for a very long time, from the time my mother passed last year through bc treatment. I have been wanting to pay a visit to this very special church and today was the day.
The service featured all types of holiday music and included an adult choir, children's choir and my favorite, a bell choir. They sang together and separately, and there was also a pianist (my friend), an organist and lovely classical guitar player. I enjoyed singing some of the wonderful Xmas hymns and everyone was so nice and welcoming. It felt very good to be there.
The best part to me came afterwards. There was a special violin recital by a 12 year old boy who chose 4 classical pieces to play duets with a pianist on in honor of his grandmother, who was a cellist and passed from stomach cancer last Sept. This was to honor her memory, but also was clearly a way for him to express his feelings of loss over his grandmothers passing. The pieces he chose were so beautiful (not to mention complex for a 12 year old to play). I was trained on classical violin and flute, and know some of the pieces he played very well. He was just phenomenal. The final of his solos was about his feelings about the loss he had felt and in all the years of playing and listening to music, I don't think I have ever heard the raw feelings of grief come through in music as I did today. It was powerful.
I seem to think I will remember today for a long time to come! -
I m so cold. I've been Christmas shopping with my sister. I would think it must be difficult to shop with me. I obsess over getting the perfect gift. I take a long time deciding. This is my opinion not hers. My sister is wonderful. She went with me to my appointments and all chemo sessions.
I went to my daughter's high school choir concert. She is in the select choir. The freshman, men's, and women's choirs performed as well. They sang beautifully. It was a good day.
-
Jazzy, the concert sounds amazing. Do you find time to play the violin and flute?
Dutch, it sounds like you had a good day too. I also take a long time deciding ... sometimes I have to walk away ... look for something else ... and then come back if I still want the item.
Oops it's later than I thought ... running off to send the grands off to school ... be back later. -
Jzzy u'r experience sounds wonderful, especially cuz u know the pieces, how wonderful to have a beautiful day like that and u so deserve it.
Dutch another wonderful time--it's so nice to see how u'r enjoying u'rself.
I'm trying to catch up--my phone is quite busy this morning with problem calls for electrical work, so I've been busy. I truly hope everyone's week is good.
-
I've walked away when I've been unable to decide as well, Sally.
Cami...my daughter makes it hard to be a hermit. She is on the dance team (fall and winter), soccer in the spring, and select choir all year long. Of course I have to be at every event and game.
-
Dutch u have young kids, so u really have to be more busy, mine are in their 40's so they don't need me anymore--so it's easy for me. Altho now I live with my youngest DD so my GS keeps me thinking to young LOL
-
Jazzy, the concert sounded awesome. What a wonderful way for that young man to pay tribute to his grandmother! Maybe someone recorded it?
dutch, I can't imagine going through all this bc sh1t and raising kids too. My heart goes out to all you younger women that have to juggle kids, work, and bc. You are all very courageous women!
Cami, my kids are grown too, plus they live in CA, so I can hunker down when ever the mood strikes me. Which is often!! -
Gramma I'm usually hunkered down. And no one bothers me. LOL
-
Dutch get a heating pad wrap it around your neck and shoulders. Great way to warm up! -
I have a heated throw and it's wonderful when it really gets cold.
-
Hi hermits- our go live is going so well they are going to scale back a bit on the hours for coverage now. Whoo hoo!
Sally, I do still play music. I play more jazz now vs. classical (flute violin and saxophone) but have been out of my music since my health changed. I am working my way back to playing more again. I have missed it.
GrammaB- I found some recordings of this young man on YouTube but not of the performance yesterday. I did see people recording it and going to watch to see if it gets uploaded. If it does, I will share it with you all.
Anyone watching the finals on The Voice tonight? I am rooting for Tessann, my favorite from the start. Lots of great singers this season, it has been enjoyable to watch and listen to this season.
P.S. Adam Levine is a hottie. -
There u go Jazzy
-
Cami, I sleep on a heated throw and cover with a quilt. We don't have central heat, and what heat we do have doesn't get to my room. This combo keeps Spookie and me warm all night. -
I love to be cuddled with all the warm covers when it's really cold and I always have a window open a little.
-
Thanks Jazzy, I hope you find it.
I snuggle under a down comforter in a flannel cover. I'm pretty hot blooded so the cold doesn't bother me a lot. My bedroom window is always open and often I am poking my feet out from under the comforter. -
Geeeesh! I know your gonna laugh, I'm looking for a jacket at 80. And may have the heat on in the car. I HATE COLD -
Tessann from The Voice just blew everyone away during the finals on The Voice last night. For those of you who may not follow the show, you may enjoy this just the same. She sang my most favorite song ever by Whitney Houston, "I Have Nothing" from the Bodyguard. And she delivered it just like Whitney would have! I think a star has been born! -
Wow Jazy, that was beautiful! What a talent that young woman has! -
That was great Jazzy, I enjoyed that one.
-
That performance was very good!
My nephew gave me a twin size electric blanket for Christmas last year. I wanted an electric throw but with the blanket I can keep all of me covered.
I have one child left at home. She is 17 and pretty amazing.
-
Here goes again ... I lost a long post that I was composing on my iPad ... I hope this computer will be more forgiving.
dutchiris, your daughter sure keeps you active. You must love that her interests are so diverse. Does she play soccer for a high school? My DG plays soccer but her high school soccer season is in the fall.
My grands keep my thinking young too, Cami. How life has changed since I was their ages (8-15).
grammaB, I like your word "hunker." Yesterday I hunkered down after walkiing for 10 minutes directly followed left handed vacuuming for 10 minutes. I felt so pathetic that 20 minutes would wear me out. However, I am determined to build up my stamina. A 15 minute walk went well today.
Jazzy, it's good to hear about the continued success of your go live. I noticed that you added the saxophone to the violin and flute. Do you play with groups? I have always wished that I had musical talent as I have always felt it would open social doors. I am better socially when gatherings have a purpose.
Spookiesmom, I think that our bodies adapt to certain temperatures and when the temperature dips, even if it is still warm out, we feel cold. Once upon a summer, I moved from The Philippines to Germany. I pulled out my winter woolens for the German summer after the year of tropical temps in The Philippines.

My dear hermits,
I know it has been a LONG time and for that I am sorry, but I know you will all understand.
Soon after my last post to all of you, I had a reaction to the Lyrica they had me on for the nerve damage I sustained due to IV error on my second lumpectomy. The reaction was the most severe of the effects and I had a complete and total nervous breakdown. I ended up hospitalized and medicated. That was around Aug 19th or so. It has been a long journey, but I am back to myself and off all meds. Since then I am still suffering from the nerve pain, but there is not much they can do for me since I reject all medication. I go to PT one a week and stay monitored with my neurologist. I have filed for disability as I sold my hair business due to not being able to work. As far as my breast goes, I finished radiation in September and things were fine until about 3 weeks ago when my breast became swollen and so sore that I cannot be hugged. Even fabric touching it hurts. I called my oncologist and we shall see what they say. It is probably just an after effect of the radiation, but I find it strange that I had 2 months of "normal" and now this is happening. This horrible disease continues to give and give.
On a happy note, my daughter gave birth to our grandson "Grant Russell Spencer" on 9/15 after a 28 hour labor. He was in the NICU for 8 days, but is home and fine now. He is such a joy and really was my motivation to get myself well. I cannot tell you how much we all love him! My son Nick is great. He is in love and very happy. He is driving now and that is wonderful and scary. He pitched a 6-0 Shut Out to win one of the biggest tournaments of the year a couple of weeks ago and that is a wonderful milestone.
I want you all to know that I thought of all of you every day when I was fighting for my life. I drew strength from all of the conversations we had had and the love you had given me in such a short period of time. I look forward to catching up with all of you again.
Love,
Laurie XOXOXOXO
-
Laurie, it's good to meet you. Congratulations to your son on his shut-out and to your daughter on the birth. Aren't grandbabies amazing? I hope your healing continues smoothly now.
-
Thank you Sally!
-
Laurie OMD!! So scarey, hope you are on the road to healing. Continue to feel better and welcome back!
-
Thank you Spookiesmom! XOXOXO
