I like the change in Active Topics. More information is visible at a glance.
-
Moderators....On my iPhone I when I click on active topics....only the first TWO columns come up. When I signed in on my desk top....I now can see all FOUR columns..... What's up with that?
For sure, I can now see more topics at a glance now that you've redesigned the active topics....but why can't I see all four columns on my iphone?????
-
The new Active Topics is really not user friendly at all. I just can't see all the data points with one look. I now have to read across, often loosing my place since the columns are so spread out. A real step backwards in terms of legibility, though there are more posts there now. Just can't read them!

I'm also extremely disappointed in the Active Topics page now. The condensed aspect is better, but somehow with the fonts and colors and lines and maybe just emphasis on the wrong words, it's a frustratingly confusing jumble and definitely not an appealing page to open.
-
This site now continues and continues to take ages to load. Sigh.
-
I like the new layout! Thanks Mods!
-
Why does IN FORUM (2nd column) need to be repeated in bold on every single line? Just deleting that would clean up the Actives page some.
Also, when I look at a thread name, my first question is, who started it and when? So my eye has to jump all the way to the end of the line to get the basic info' I want about each thread, which seems very awkward to me.
Also, in that last column, a lot of the dates break after the month, so that May, for example, appears on one line and 11, 2012 on the next, which is really odd.
Maybe some of these things aren't happening on the versions others are seeing vs. my full-size iMac (Safari) screen.
-
Active Topics is much improved on my MacBooK Pro laptop, Safari browser. It's easier to get a sweep view of what's going on. Less cluttered, less scrolling. Not as tiring to the eyes.
I'm sorry to hear some users don't like it. Perhaps people should post the type of interface they are using (laptop, cell, ipad, browser etc).
This is a very minor point. I find the In Forum label a bit distracting, and maybe not necessary. Just my opinion.
A great big thank you to the mods for addressing all our problems with the new design.
-
Hi moderators,
I found the new format of Active Topics well settled and easily looked over. Like it very much!
Greetings

I don't mind the new Active Topic format; I just scroll down the topic list & if it sounds interesting I can look across to see what forum it is in, who posted it etc.
Things remain very slow for me. I'm getting the spinning circle a lot.......
-
Spinning circle here also! Speed doesn't seem to be happening no matter what search engine I'm using.
-
Interesting, I am not having the slowness problem at all, whether on my laptop or my Android phone.
Anyone tried deleting cookies and clearing out your cache? I know it's a pain but it might solve the slowness problem.
-
Luv done that and rebooted..... No joy. I guess I'll get used to it.
-
It's probably because they are putting changes through as it slowed down last time too. I got some very strange screens a few hours ago. I think it was Favourites and Dashboard that came up like a table, then next time it was back to normal. Then again, my internet connection is playing up tonight (Aus time).
Edited to see if it upsets the number of unread posts in Active topics.
-
Since I don't use "Active Topics," I can't address those issues; but I've been using "Favorite Topics" extensively since the format change. I haven't been online for 2 or 3 days, so I don't know when this glitch developed. It's the same one karen333 reported 2 days ago.
The "NEW" mark on threads with new posts is way too big now. It overlaps the text describing the thread it's marking. I'm posting screen shots to illustrate the problem. I realize they're fuzzy/poor resolution, but it's the best I can do.
Note that this is not a browser-specific issue; I see the same error with Firefox and Safari. Granted, they're old versions of those browsers, but, still...
Here's what I see with Safari:
This is the view with Firefox:
otter
ETA: I'm on a MacBook Pro with Mac OS X 10.4.11.
-
Thanks all for continuing to post issues.
We are passing along the information on to the tech team.
-
Love the most recent changes except.... I can view only the first 2 columns (topic and forum) on my Android phone. Hoping this is a temporary wrinkle.....
-
VERY pleased to have to scroll down only one column now (and no annoying red lines anymore); before I had to 'squint' and hope my eyes alighted on a topic I had read before. If the topic looks interesting, I can look over to the next column and see which forum it's in.
Thanks, Mods - a definite improvement.
-
Darn.....now the titles of threads you have already looked at don't change colour so it is impossible to quickly check on threads you are following.......

Moderators - been traveling and finally was able to get on my dh's laptop and check out BCO. LOVE the new format on the Active topics page. Not sure what it will look like from my desktop when I get back home but I love what I am seeing. Thanks for listening to us.
-
Probably not really a glitch, but if I log in on my iPad then the site logs me out on my computer and vice versa. I just find it inconvenient switching back and forth and since one of the purposes of the remodel was to improve the site for mobile users I figure I can't be the only one that finds it bothersome. I do participate on a site that allows me to stay logged on both devices, but I also participate on a site that automatically logs one out after an hour or so regardless of the device.
-
I have of late been using my iPhone rather than my laptop but have found the same problem of getting logged out of one or the other........ very annoying.
-
On the active topics, I can still only see the first two columns on my iPhone. I mentioned this the first day that you made the change and I see that others have mentioned this since.
-
For those of you who are mentioning the columns in Active Topics on your mobile devices I quote the Moderators, June 11, 2012 08:15 PM:
>>The number and width of the four columns will vary depending on how each individual has the screen set. At its narrowest, as on mobile
>> devices, there is Topic and Forum. As you go wider, you'll also see Latest Post and Created By, both with their post times.
p.s. I still hate the grid look.
-
I get logged out of one device when I log into another, also. But that happens with lots of applications - Facebook, Blogger, etc. I have a netbook, a regular laptop, an iPad and an Android smartphone. It happens on all of them and I think it's just the nature of the beast.
-
Susan... On my iPhone the mobile format ONLY has TWO columns no matter how narrow or wide I make the screen. On my desktop and laptop I have 4 columns.
Moderators.... Are the techs addressing this issue? Do any of them have an iPhone???? -
I am constantly logged on with gmail, Facebook, picassa, tweet no matter what I'm using..... iPhone or laptop and can go between without having to log in each time. It only happens with BCO.
-
Voraciousreader, my interpretation of what the Moderators said was that was all that would display on an iPhone, as if that is how it is designed.
-
River rat... Not too encouraging... Next time I will have to be careful about what I wish for..... At least it is easier to read......
-
Yes, the tech folks all have iPhones. They'll be addressing your tech glitches next week! Thanks for your patience.
