Yes Kathy, my DH Nd I have been walking every other day. I really pushed it and walked 3.2 miles the other day through the woods. My feet were killing me later though. I may need to stick to 2 miles and kick it up a notch by walking faster and getting more cardio. Murray and Baxter, our pups, are loving it!

Walked my first official 5K on Sunday. No major ill effects! My son (9 years old) has said that next year he wants to run it. So let the training begin, or something like that. He walked it this year and did just fine.

I'm glad to hear that our Sandy affected friends are slowly having things return to somewhat normal. I remember life after the Northridge quake, took quite  some time to have things return. My thoughts are with you guys.

CookieMonster, Congratulations on your first 5K walkathon!!! You inspire me to do that. I am sure that you and your son will enjoy training together. Hey, are you coming to Torrance anytime soon? Hubby and I walked alot yesterday and ate pretty well. I am headed to a reunion in IN on Thursday. There is always lots of eating, but my friends love to walk, so hopefully the walking will burn off the many calories that I will consume this weekend!!!!!Wink Rocket, wow, you have been walking alot. I know about the feet hurting, it can be painful. Are there socks that help?? Hi, to Tenaj and ATeamNana. Have a wonderful day!!!! Oh, I forgot, just want to share another eating tip, thanks for patience with me. I eat at least a spoonful of Greek yogurt before each meal with a little cinnamon and honey and it really fills me up. I am snacking less. Thanks for letting me share!!Laughing

Yum love Greek yogurt! I eat it too, especially now that I have osteopenia. I think I might be allergic to apples. I have that weird rash again all over my legs. The only thing I can think of eating recently that is different is apples. I pray I am wrong. I just love them!

Kathy, socks don't help. I have nice hiking socks and boots, but my feet are really messed up - inherited from my mother. Dreading the thought of anger surgery, this time on my right foot in December. I'm still on the fence about whether or not to do it. I hate being laid up.

Hi, Rocket, did you have bunion surgery?? I have terrible bunions, one on each foot. I am a great candidate for surgery, but I am too chicken. My right foot looks like I have a 6th toe next to my big toe. Ugly, he,he,he!!!! My mom had the surgery and she was laid up for months!!! I know it is a big decision whether or not to have the surgery. Good luck!!!

{6}   Hi, its funny. i was just sitting there feeling sorry for myself, because like you, I have almost always had a very physically demanding job, and who needs the gym when yuo have that? Then i took a year off to take care of a dying friend, who really loved to walk, and that kept me in shape 4 flights of stairs up and down all day long, cooking and cleaning and running errands for two house holds. After, when i kept losing weight became concerned, found breast cancer. Surgery, halfway through tch. I miss my energy the most. I have been skinny all my life even after womenopause. 100 to 120 pounds on a 5.5. frame, all muscle except for c boobs. anyway, yeah, i dont like the changes either. and expect hopefully someday things will be more normal. I dont know if i am allowed to mention abook or a movie i found helpful for a good strong diet, but she is amazing and positive and knowledgeable so here goes, and she is a cancer survivor, like us. Kris karr, look up crazy sexy cancer, crazy sexy life, and there are great recipes there tooo, and like this sight all kinds of women, all kinds of differant threads. Not to take away from this site, but that one is great too. I take my camera with me on walks to forget that its exercise, and end up walking further. still do half the amount of stairs, and cooking laundry shopping excetera. thinking of joining a gym though,if i can fit it in the budget. maybe yoga at home or jane fonda tapes from library. You have gone through an extra lot. Don't give up. remember how you eat an elephant? one bite at a time. Peace   11*6*12

Yes, I had the bunion surgery on my left foot last January. It was the most painful surgery I have ever had, and I've had quite a few. I was laid up for three solid months, but that was because I fell and injured my foot a month after the surgery and it really set me back.

I will see my podiatrist this month and ask him how long I will need for recovery. This foot is not as severe as the right foot. Hopefully I won't be laid up as long. I will be glad to get it over with however.

    It's not an easy decision.

Hi Kathec, and welcome! I feel sorry for myself rather frequently, so I understand. Today however, my DH talked me into a walk in the woods. It's snowing here, but not accumulating on the roads, so we had a beautiful walk in a gentle snowfall in the woods. It was spectacular! I could have walked more than the two miles, but my DH was concerned about my feet. They ache constantly, especially in bad weather. I didn't care though. It felt so good to get outside in the crisp air.

I hope you are all having a wonderful day.

Oh, Rocket, your walk sounds wonderful. I just came back from a walk here and it is so hot. I miss the fall weather and even the snow!!!! I so used to look forward to the first snowfall and how it fell on the trees, so beautiful. I am headed back to the Midwest on Thursday, so I will definitely see and feel the cooler weather, hooray for crisp air. Enjoy the rest of your day!!!

Hi everyone!  My first post in this thread, so here goes Laughing  I still have a lot of up and down days also, unfortunately.  I've been exercising a bit everyday though, and lo and behold...I think that part is getting a bit better!  Well, then again, I didn't join my fellow Church peoples for coffee after Church on Sunday...felt pretty blah emotionally.  One step at a time though, I suppose.

Some good news...I joined myfitnesspal.com 2 months ago and have managed to lose some of the unGodly weight I put on.  Tomorrow is a pelvic ultrasound for me...praying it goes well.  In the meantime, I'm going to continue with my little exercise routine and keep tracking my calories.

I love walking also, but I do most of mine indoors on the treadmill.  (I seem to catch fewer sinus infections that way).  The ground is snow covered now, and so beautiful to look at.  I love the way the snow catches on the branches of the pine trees that line our driveway.  I do most of my walks looking outside...so peaceful and serene.

    Glad I found this thread!!

That's interesting about the omega 3 possibly increasing cholesterol. I've been taking two of them a day. I'd like the answer to that question as well. I take them for my heart as there is a lot of coronary artery disease in both sides of my family. Two months ago, on my 52nd birthday, my older sister, age 62, passed away in her sleep from a massive heart attack. No one saw it coming. Three of my grandparents died the same way. Scary!

Welcome JO-5 & Is this for real!! Wonderful caring & supportive ladies on this thread.

I do know that walking/aerobic exercise helps to lower cholesterol.

I have been bad lately about eatting & exercising. I have been in survival mode with the loss of power from the storm & working all weekend. We are having another storm right now, I started my work day very early so I could get home from seeing the patients as early as possible. Hopefully we won't loose power again. I have eatten much better today. I defrosted some vegetable soup I made and had it for lunch, yogurt with peaches for breakfast & apple/banana for snack thru the day. Now I just have to stay out of the Halloween candy!! So far so good. I started going backwards and I so don't want to do that so I will be the best I can be. I have also faultered with drinking water....it is so important to drink plenty of water....just a reminder...

    Have a lovely evening

Welcome, InthisforReal and Jo-5!!!! Sure love seeing new friends here!! We can sure help each other get in shape before the holidays!!! Hi, TENAJ, I am so glad that your life is getting back to normal after what you have been through! Thank you for the reminder of drinking lots of water!! You have been eating better!!! Hope you never lose power again!!!! Rocket, that is a good question about the omega3's! I have quit taking a lot of over the counter meds, except for my aromasin and vitamin D. I have been trying to get all my antioxidants by eating lots of fruits and veggies. I also drink a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in water twice a day, a teaspoon of cinnamon and turmeric, honey and garlic, and a cup of green tea!! My cholesterol and tumor markers have come down!! We will see if this all works long term. Blood work at the end of November!!!! Hi, to ATeamNana and CookieMonster!!!!! Love all you wonderful ladies!!!

Kathy, how do you get the turmeric, cinnamon and honey? Are you making a tea or do you eat them in recipes? What amount of each do you use?

Hi, Rocket, I daily sprinkle one tsp of each on whatever food I am eating. Cinnamon on yogurt, turmeric on a salad and the honey in my green tea. I don't like the tumeric, but I heard it keeps the cancer cells dormant. Hope you are doing well!!!!

Hi Ladies, and thank you for the warm welcome and I'm so happy to be here as a part of this conversation.  I think I'm going to try the tumeric also if it keeps cancer cells at bay.  Wonderful tip!

I take the Omega 3's also, two a day as recommended by my Onc, and while my cholesterol has come down nicely, my triglycerides are still high, even though I rarely eat processed sugars.  I found out a few years ago that I'm allergic to the statin drugs for cholesterol, so I take ezetrol daily.  It definitely helps with the good and bad cholesterol, but my Dr. says it does nothing for the triglicerides.  Darn..  He is suggesting another 'old time' medication used specifically for that, which apparently has no side effects so I've decided to give that a try and let him know next month when I see him.

It turns out my pelvic ultrasound done yesterday, was really an abdominal ultrasound.  Probably good I didn't know though, saved me a lot of anxiety.  The tech also opted to do a transvaginal u/s while I was in there.  I'm glad they're being thorough.  I'm guessing they're looking at the organs because of the fatigue that hasn't let up.

JO-5 congrats on the weight loss, keep it up!! I have been doing much better with eatting, more water & more green tea. The scale actually moved in the right direction this AM Laughing

I didn't loose power!! But did wake up to snow on the ground. I feel so bad for everyone who lost so much...I feel so lucky that we were spared. I am off for 4 days so I hope to get some exercise back into my life. I start the day with an early MD appt. I am seeing a new oncologist for the 1st time. I was very disappointed at my last visit. My doc spent about 3 minutes with me after waiting 2.5 hours. Hopefully I will like her & what she has to say.

Kindergarten, I will have to do some research on the tumeric, cinnamon & vinegar....

Isthisforeal I hope you are feeling better soon. Do you take vitamins? B-complex is very helpful with fatigue.

Hi Rocket, how are those pups?

Have a great evening all. Hi CookieMonster & AteamNana.

    Hi Everyone,

Pups are doing well. They will want a nice long walk tonight. We are going out to dinner however, so I don't know if we can fit it all in. They'll get one either today or tomorrow.

I tried the apple cider vinegar by adding it to the last few drinks of my green tea. BLECH, I thought I was going to burn my esophagus! I am going to have to dilute it a lot more. I still have to go buy the turmeric. I'll try to get that today. The garlic is going to have to be in pill form. Any suggestions on what type and how much to take? I don't want to smell like an Italian restaurant, so go easy on me. The honey, cinnamon and green tea are no problem for me. I can handle that.

Love all you ladies and hope you are having a wonderful day. How's the DH doing Jo? Tenaj, how did the onc appt. go?

    Hi Ladies,

JO-5 - I didn't get the name of the med for the triclycerides, but I wish I would have so I could research it.  I will let you know the name when I see the Dr. again in Dec.  Could you give my best to your Dh plz.

Tenaj - I just started taking a B100 complex again.  I'm not sure why I had quit taking that though.  Hopefully between that and an increase in thyroxine it'll make a difference.

Sounds like we're gearing up for a storm here on the Canadian Prairies, with snowfall somewhere between 4 - 6 inches expected overnight.  It may sound strange, but I love these snow storms, but only if I'm at home of course.  Wink  Can't wait to see a little more snow on the ground.
