Etherize, I, too, have been on the receiving end of the direct and indirect versions of, "You shouldn't be focusing on these side effects when you're still here; you should be focusing on still being here!" Hello......it's about quality of life. I mean, most of us want to continue to live because life is worth living, and we want to keep it that way to the extent that we can.  I think the really good doctors get that, and the others need more and more education from people like us. By the way, I hope the cocoa butter works.

I have been following this topic as I am having an ooph soon and have been concerned about this issue.  I met my surgeon this week and was telling her about this and she was quite interested as this is a concern for many women.  I can't seem to get the link to work for the SC Formulation  to give to her.  Love that cocoa butter seems to work also, but wanted to give the formulation to my surgeon for the benefit of others (and possibly myself!).

I am super frustrated. I am 46, and before chemo through me into menopause, hubby and I had an amazing sex life. Now it is super painful and dry. I use the lidocaine ointment for the pain, but sometimes it numbs him, and me where I don't want it numb, and I can't reach the O and it takes him a long time, any way, My onc was one of those that Scream cream was a no way ,

There were two ingredients he didn't like in it. I am triple positive, so he is not considering it. Can someone post the ingredients again. I am going to go through my gyno instead, less the two ingredients that cause concern.

I used the lidocaine ointment last night, a ton of astroglide, and the little silver bullet gizmo to achieve the "O" but it was alot of work

Hi, I had asked my breast oncologist , OBGYN and GYN oncologist from Sloan Kettering. None of them would give it to me. They said vit. E and astroglide. I haven't had intercourse in two years because of the pain.

I don't understand why they don't come up with something. I feel like telling them not to have sex for a year they just don't understand.    The best to all.  Janet

Janetip? What two ingredients? Lidocaine supposedly can cause nerve damage and vitamin e is not supposed to be good for us ER + girls... And yet u were given the green light I. Those ingredients, but not scream cream.

I agree--- there should be something better. Is KY ok, ladies? Agh....

Both my MO and my GYN said scream cream is fine for me to use and I am ER+ (83%).  I also got the OK for Vag e Fem too.  I don't use the lidocaine though.

Can you get the scream cream without the prescription? I can't get any of my drs to give it to me. One of them said get the one on line.

Janet - The online "no prescription" version does not have the exact same ingredients.  Just do an internet search and lots of sites will pop up.  Perhaps you can find one that comes close to the compounded prescription version???

I just called a compounding pharmacy and not only do they know how to make it, but they have six tubes sitting on their shelf.

I find the difference in MO responses interesting. I just asked my MO at MD Anderson about the SC ingredients (even though I've been using it via Rx from my PCP for over a month) and she sent the ingredient list to their pharmacology department. I just received a voice mail stating that nothing in there was of concern to them... And good luck, hope it helps.



I do not use the lidocaine... Am 100% ER+.... 50% PR+.

OnePetie - I tried to go back through the posts, but got lost since this has been such an active thread.  I recall that some women's docs had concerns about the aminophylline and the L-argenine.  Not from a breast cancer standpoint, however. 

Aminophylline has "heart-lung" connections as it is used for its bronchodilator effects and IV as a resuscitation drug to restore heart rhythm or to relax blood vessels.  Different forms, doses, delivery systems (?), but it apparently makes some docs unwilling to prescribe the cream. 

One possible side effect of L-argenine is activation of genital herpes in patients with a history.  I seem to recall at least one poster here commented that she had an outbreak of coldsore(s) after she started using the cream.  She didn't know if there was a connection or not.

EDITED TO ADD:  I'm not an authority on this by any means.....these are just some of the reasons reported by some women on this thread on why their doctors weren't comfortable writing the prescription.

Funny... My husband takes l-arginine to combat cold sores. I know about the aminophyline but the mode and dose didn't concern me. Oh well, anyone who reads these boards knows that MO opinions and preferences differ all across the country/world. I feel comfortable with MDA's pharma.....

Nope, nope, nope... I'm wrong! L-arginine can indeed aggravate herpes. My husband does take that supplement, however... But also takes Lysine to counter it.

I just hate my Arimidex driven brain stupids..... Sigh.

Aaaggghhhhh. I asked my onc on Tuesday for a prescription for scream cream and she wants look at the ingredients first. I'm still waiting to hear back

Update...my gyn & MO ok'd SC for me months ago. It has helped but hasn't resolved some issues. I still get some burning/discomfort during sex. I saw my MO today & asked again about vaginal estrogen cream for the vaginal atrophy. He will only OK it if I switch from letrozole to tamoxifen. I know a little estrogen cream will help those pesky issues. I want to get back to the satisfying sex life I had a year ago!!! Is there anyone out there has had any similar issues with switching drugs or vaginal cream use?

Even though I'm ER+, my MO said it would be o.k. to occasionally use my Premarin cream....just a dab around the outside. (Haven't started the Arimidex yet.)

Astroglide was a big zero for me -- not to be confused with a big O.  

GYN recommended a paraffin-ish cream called Albolene; he said it has a light blue cover.  I am going to try to get that.  It always says it is a cleanser though.  Anyone ever hear of using Albolene?

Yep. I actually use this has a face cleanser in the winter. Think Vaseline because it's very similar.

Different things work for different people. I've tried various solutions. For a lubricant, vaseline like bases did nothing for me personally. I've found silicone based ones to be effective though. Of those, Dr. Love has worked the best for me. Runner up would be Gun Oil, another silicone based lube.

The SC is a miracle and the best gift I've received here on the boards. The SC combined with Dr. Love... I feel almost normal again.

Mopsy - My dermatologist gave me a sample tube of Albolene to use at night on my dry, splitting nails.  Perhaps it comes in different formulations, but this one is very similar to Vasoline in consistency and greasiness.  The tube does say that it's a moisturizing cleanser.

Have any of you tried Estring?  The ring that you leave in for 3 months and it releases small amounts of estrogen?  My MO said it was safer than Vagifem, but I hate the idea of having something in there for months at a time.  And I'm not sure I could even get it in or out correctly!

My gyn. recommended Albolene. Yes, it is labeled as a moisterizer/face cleanser.   I have used it off and on for years.  It works well for us.  I also like the scream cream, but it has a pretty short shelf life.  I've tried the Slippery Stuff, but it seems to get sticky after a bit, so I'm not as crazy about it.

I prefer not as I'm E+ 100%. My current combo works well for me without the concern of hormonal use.

I looked up the thread because my dh and I had a really good saturday morning.  He never asks me so I just went ahead and prepared and surprised him.  I use only the SC but I do insert it all the way as well as externally.   Then wait 10-15 mins as women have recommended above.   It prepares all of the delicate tissues.... for me.

It may be that it is my wonderful GP  to thank for all of this.   I told him once that I shared the idea and he really got tickled.

But now you make me realize that I must tell my Oncologist.  she's a chick, too, but you are correct; we are the special population and just estrogen cream doesn't do enough.   You know, I worried that she would say, "THIS is what youre concerned about?"   But love is love.  And pleasure is pleasure!

Gave the list of ingredients to my ONC last Tuesday. Whan I met with her today, I was told no because she hasn't had a chance to look at the ingredients. Then they made an appointment for me to meet wih someone else in two weeks. Aren't these the people who told my I had less than a year to live and they just stopped me from having decent sex for a month !!!
