Just then, she felt a tap on her back, she whipped round and saw Carlos, Chad's Mexican friend. They moved outside to chat in the relative peace and quiet.
"Hi, gorgeous, missed you at Chad's. You sent any baddies to jail, yet?" They always flirted outrageously together.
"Hey, Carlos. No, still a law student. Give me a few years and you'd better watch out! Me and Chad are cooling it for a bit"...
"Pity, you were a cute couple. But I can see that you're going places, whereas Chad, well, you know him....
-
"What are you up to, Carlos?" I asked.
Carlos seemed somewhat embarrassed about my question.
-
Up to? "Nothing!" Said Carlos, as he placed a large pinata in front of him. Why would you
-
ask me that as if i have somthing to hide? Wow Carlos, you seem a little sensitive or is it guilt? And whats in the pinata, oh just candy for my nephews birthday, Yeah, i bet said Mary, just about that time 4 police cars pulled up and jumped out with there guns drawn...
-
Carlos seemed to realise instinctively that there was trouble. He sped out to the garden and practically vaulted over the fence! Mary was left holding the pinata - out of place in a grown-up's party. She was right in thinking something fishy was going on - the police burst in, with their guns out and a fierce-looking police dog by their side.
Now, luckily perhaps, Mary had read about new developments in forensics in her criminal law books. They were now using dogs to track down drugs, a growing problem in California. She stared at the donkey pinata in her hand and panicked.....
PS - no idea if this is historically accurarate!
-
(I have no idea either, but there is 'fun' in the title.)
She was so worried about whether this would threaten her chances of becoming a lawyer that she passed out cold right in front of the police.
-
when she came too, there was this rather handsome police officer leaning over here with smelling salts, come on miss, wake up he was saying, she was staring into his beautiful deep blue eyes and couldnt help but notice his dark curly hair and long eyelashes, then she realized why she had passed out to begin with, she said its not what you think, I.. I,,,mary stuttered to find the right words, ok miss, said this handsome stranger dont say anything, we will have to take you downtown for a statement and
-
book you." Then he read the Miranda rights to her. When Mary saw them carry out a body from the back room, she passed out once again.
-
When she awoke she cried, "Book Me? But I'm innocent!" "What I meant, my dear", said the handsome policeman is "Book you and I a reservation at the most romantic restaurant in town some day" as he batted his beautiful eyelashes, amost making her faint again. "You see I was kidding about the other part" But, she thought, could I actually fall for someone so......Establishment????
But that body......
-
Then she remembered her old grandma's sage advice, "Don't knock it if you haven't tried it", and there WAS something about a man in uniform. "I'll come with you on one condition," she said coyly, "that I reserve my right to remain silent."
-
"You're in luck! I finish my shift now! " the policeman said, looking at his watch. " I'm Brad, by the way. And you are..?"
"Mary. Now, where are you taking me? I'm starving !"
"Just this little French bistro I know. I take my mother there!"
"I bet you do! Lead the way. There's no need for you to change."
They sped through town in the police car. Mary was really enjoying herself. But, there was a niggling feeling in her mind. Was that REALLY a dead body being carried out of the house?!"
-
"And what were the other police doing there? And why did Carlos run off?", she thought
-
Can I ask you somthing Brad? sure, whats on your mind? Whos body was that you were carrying out of of the back room? Oh just some drug dealer that pulled a gun on us when we confronted him, and we had to take him down. Was his name Carlos? asked Mary.
-
"Still haven't identified the body," Brad said. "But one thing was just confirmed and it was a 'she' in the body bag."
Mary gave him a wide-eyed stare.
"What?" he asked her.
"All of a sudden I have a craving for chocolate and if I don't get it right this very minute I will be forced to....." -
( glad you joined us tatina123)
Jump out of this car and grab that kids icecream in his hand as she points to a little kid happily licking his cone.. Wow, calm down sugar plum we will be there any minute, whats the matter, and who is carlos, are you involved with somthing you want to talk about? No, i dont, im sorry im acting like this but i find chocolate calms me down, that is my drug of choice. But, im a little curious about somthing brad...
-
"You just called me Sugar Plum. How did you know that the Sugar Plum Fairy is my dance part in the annual Nutcracker performance at our community theatre?" she asked, waiting for an answer.
Brad crinkled his brows and focused on the road.
Mary broke the silence. "Brad, why do I get the feeling that you already know me?"
Brad cleared his throat preparing himself to tell her the whole truth..... -
" Look, Mary, this is not easy to just blurt out. I was adopted at birth and have been seeking my birth family since I turned 18. I found out a couple of years ago that you are my half-sister. Your mother had me before she married your dad. I've been using my police contacts to track you down..."
Mary was struck dumb at this bombshell! Her goody-goody mother, who always went to Mass regularly and lectured her about the evils of pre-marital sex! Well, bang goes her planned nights of passion with Brad!
"Can we go and get a cup of coffee or a drink or something, Brad? It's a lot to take in."
Just then, the walkie-talkie crackled "Come in, car 44! An APB on the murder suspect - Hispanic male, early 20s, 6 foot, jeans and purple t-shirt. Spotted in area, caution! He is possibly armed and dangerous!"
"Carlos?!" shouted Mary....
( Hi to newcomers!!!!)
-
Edited because story was posted at the same time
-
Mary leaned toward Brad and ripped the walkie-talkie from his hand.
"Hey, what did you do that for?" Brad asked.
Mary's head was spinning. What more could happen and what more could go wrong, she thought. The walkie-talkie crackled in her hand. She couldn't bear any more news. She threw open the car door and tossed the walkie-talkie out on the road as Brad was driving at full speed.
"I can't believe you did that," he yelled, slamming on the car brakes. "That's police property!" -
Police Smolice! I think I'm losing my mind! Screamed Mary!
-
"Get a grip! Even though you are my sister, I still have to uphold the law. And what are you doing hanging out with one of the Mafia's top Latin America bosses anyway?""
"What?" screeched Mary."
"Carlos Santigo. His nickname is 'The Spanish Godfather'."
-
"You've got it all wrong, Brad," Mary said. "Carlos told me he was going into the seminary to become a priest so he's not in some mafia."
"You're joking, right?" Brad asked her. "Please tell me you're not some sort of gullible airhead."
Mary felt her temper rise, her face turning an angry hot red. She cut a stare into him and was ready to let Brad have it. -
"Well, how was I supposed to know that, Brad?" Mary said.
"Just an innocent bystander, Mary?" Brad said.
"Yes, of course!"
"And just why am I supposed to believe you?"
"Because I'm your sister, you nut!" Mary's fright was turning into anger.
-
Brad slammed on the brakes.
"Out."
"What!"
"Out of the car! I have work to do and you are being a distraction. Here's some money. Get a cab, go home, lock the door, and don't let anyone in, ESPECIALLY not Carlos......Mary, this is serious stuff. I am NOT kidding. I will call you later."
With that he gave her a shove out the door, and raced off, leaving Mary standing on the curb.
-
Mary's jaw dropped in absolute disgust as Brad's patrol car sped off. How in the heck was she going to get home, she wondered.
She noticed a group of people huddled nearby and she approached them. A bus rolled up, parked at the curb, and the doors opened.
Caught in the middle, the people muscled their way into the bus and Mary was pushed inside.
"Stop!" she yelled. No one listened. Breathless, she collapsed onto the nearest seat and stared at an elderly woman next to her. "Where are we going?" she asked her, feeling the bus motor forward.
The old lady smiled at her. "Honey, we're going to Las Vegas," she said, shaking her coin filled purse. -
Oh My God! Mary thought, a few hours ago I was at a hippie love-in, and now I am on a bus with a bunch of old broads in polyester pant suits headed for a casino!
"Let me out of here," she said, "I'm on this bus by mistake."
"Sit down and shut up," yelled the old lady, "We aren't stopping for no one. We have reservations for a Don Ho Show, and we want to get a couple hours in on the slots before then."
-
You gotta be kidding me, yelled mary. Do we look like we are kidding kiddo, we are old hot mammas on a mission now shut up and sit down. At this mary started to laugh, thinking, OK, well maybe i should go to vegas and when i get back things will be a little more calmer.
Mary started thinking of all the turn of events that just happened, and a brother? wished i would of known about him growing up, i could of
-
had a protector when people teased me in elementary school.
But she knew she didn't have any money in her purse, and wondered if she'd be washing dishes in Vegas to earn enough money to get back.
Then she had a great idea.....
-
She'd just use the money her brother, Brad, gave her for the cab ride home. That along with her credit cards would work, she reminded herself. She felt someone nudge her shoulder and turned around.
"Listen here, Missy," an old lady said, poking her in the shoulder. "You better not delay our Vegas trip so sit back and shut your trap."
"Um....sure, whatever you say," she said. Man, these old ladies were as crazy as they come.
The old lady poked her one more time and settled back into her seat.
Exhausted, Mary leaned back and rested her head. Her eyes grew tired and then she was carried away to a very odd dream..... -
More like a nightmare. She dreamed that Chad (the boring boyfriend) was jealous of Carlos, so that he set out to shoot both of them, but in the dark, shot the wrong woman and that was the woman in the bag. Then she started running but she was getting nowhere (as usual in those dreams) and realized that maybe she was a hampster. She woke up in a cold sweat. My God! She thought, I must truley be losing it!, or maybe a hampster! Or I'm having flashbacks from that Jimi Hendricks concert. Man, I am not digging this.
