Ohmygosh.... where IS everyone? Are y'all out in your back yards setting up the fireworks display?
I really should be in bed by now... 1 a.m., but DH says no alarm clocks need to be set, and I'm taking him up on that! I may sleep til it's fireworks time.
Tonight I made some cole slaw, macaroni salad, and a yummy, refreshing peach jello salad/dessert. For the main course, DH will BBQ turkey burgers, with blue cheese, tomatoes, and gluten-free buns. I did cheat and buy a quart of potato salad from this awesome local deli where everything is so fresh and delicious.
I don't know what the big deal about fireworks is. I can't stand the smoke, with my asthma, so I end up sitting in the house anyway.
Hope y'all are getting a good rest in time for any events you may be attending today!

good morning ladies. Happy Independence Day. Hope everyone has a great - pain free - day.
Not a lot going on here. We are going to grill out and hang by our pool today. Temp high is 80 here today. Usually closer to 100 this time of year. I am so happy for a cool day!!!! Dh and oldest ds went fishing at daybreak. Youngest ds still snoozing since he just got back from church camp yesterday. He is worn out. We will go watch some firework displays tonight and then home for a few for the kids. I early leave the house except for dr appt or hospital due to terrible back pain due to damn cancer, so really excited to get out today. Independence Day is one of my favorite holidays. I always get emotional thinking of the men and women who have given their life for my freedom. THANKs to all our military men and women - past and present! Of course every holiday or special occasion now is good but bittersweet. In the back of my mind I always wonder , will this be the last time that my children (12 & 9) and dh will have me around. So I try to make it the very best day I can inbetween running to the restroom to have a little cry, wash my face and reapply makeup and soaking up every memory. Definately a xanex kind of day. Hope you all have a great one
-
Hi Owlettes, thread was quiet yesterday, getting ready for your holiday weekend?
4 AM here wide awake. Are you there Patty?
-
well that post was a little depressing, sorry ladies. Not what I was going for. So on a happier note I have an old joke I remembered this morning:
5 year old boys were sharing a hospital room. Timmy asked Johnny "what are you here for?" Johnny replied " I am getting my tonsils removed". Timmy says " oh that's easy I had that done last year and you get to eat as much ice cream as you want and you will feel better in just a couple days ". Johnny asked Timmy " why are you here?" Timmy replied " I am having a circumcision ". Johnny replied " oh no! I had that done as a newborn. I couldn't walk for a year ". Lol

Okay, wait! Yes, 222222222T..... I am the Fiddler here....
And yes... The Band Director called last night.... SHE said "CHEVY are we going for a walk tomorrow?" And I was dumb-founded, and caught by surprise.
I said I'll be up at Noon! .... Husband frantically waving his arms.... But THEN I woke up at midnight, and started thinking, I AM NUCKIN' FUTS! I canNOT go get her, then walk her back down here, because either ONE of us might fall.... I mean with MY history and all!
I am boiling eggs... I am taking deviled egg sandwiches up there, with out-of-date Potato Salad, and we will have a PICNIC on her patio! With pickles! How's THAT for an easy fix? Hah! I will 'splain to PITA neighbor, that I will feel soooooo bad, if SHE falls, and me on top of her..... actually she could break my fall..... But I'll tell her to tell her PITA DIL, that "NO! I canNOT take you for walks, because I have a hard enough time trying to do that very thing mySELF!
Do those 2 forGET that I am about 77, AND with hip/leg still mending and I am supposed to help HER? Can't happen! So I will tell her I am lame.... Those 2 women are getting to be .......
So Teka, you are saying, you almost posted, but it went flying into outer space? Ha, ha! That's funny! Funny, because we have ALL done that! By the way.... we didn't get it.
One time, the whole WALL in our house fell in! I mean it came tumbling down! Bricks, wood & whatever! Then there was daylight! It scared us worse than anything.... EVER!
My folks then had to remodel! My Brother and I then got our own little rooms... with DOORS! Ha, ha! They bought that house for $3000 when I was about 10.... probably about 1947... And that house is still STANDing! A block from where we live now! with the "new" wall.
Morning Sass, Teka, and Enerva! I put all 3 of you together in a lump-sum! Sorry Enerva..... wait! Is that your kitten in that avatar? Sooo cute!
Nettie, YOU TOO? WTH are you girls DOing? Swinging from your cabinet doors?
I TELL you, it is easier on a pole! Duct tape didn't hold, eh?
Okay Nettie.... This is my experience with Prednisone.... SURE the pain will go away.... It really works, but as soon as you quit taking it, the pain is right back... And it makes you retain water, like a big Puffer-fish!
But SOME people can take that in small doses, like forever... but Sass, will say NO.... don't take it forever! You might WANT to, but it is not a good idea. It is so NICE though when that pain is gone.... I also took it for that back pain, but it DOES mask the pain. And helps a lot of stuff.
Valsa! WHO is on the way.... ? I'll bet you posted on the wrong thread! You mean Arthur? Hurricane Arthur?
A friend from HS always sends me Holiday cards....and this one is really great! You can view your card here. Happy 4th everyone!
Oh SORRY Peppermint! Go put on that make-up girl! Wipe those tears, and try and have a better day.... We are HERE, ya' know!
Hi 22222222T....! You here too? Wish we could have coffee together! xoxoxoxo
-
hmm, had a post, off into cyberspace,
Good morning Chevy! Thanks for my early morning giggle (out of date potato salad, that'll fix her!). Good for you, take care of yourself. She has a family, that's their responsibility. Would someone outside of your family be taking care of you?
Coffee sounds like a great idea, need to put on a pot. Usually like iced coffee (I remember Mom drank that 50+ years ago in the hot NY summers, everyone laughed, she was ahead of her time). Is the photo of the fallen cupboard from your home or Internet?
Edited: thanks for ecard, very nice. She create beautiful cards, have been very lucky to have received a couple (from friends who care).
Need something to go with the coffee. Have a blueberry muffin mix and fresh blueberries. Maybe need to get that in the oven, maybe just stay on the sofa, too many decisions so early in the morning. Figuring I fell asleep on the sofa watching TV around 10-10:30, now wide awake. Terrible hot flashes, sitting next to the floor fan, must be cool, even the cats are avoiding me.
-
so, we've been talking about electronic devices (not electrical or battery-powered, get your minds out of the gutter). Curious what you all use. Chevy, if that was an image of your set up, do you sit at a desk all day? Do others respond from their cell? I get notifications of Insomniacs thread updates on my cell (without images), use an iPad with my butt in the sofa for the rest.
Hoping Sassy gets everything figured out so she's back here regularly, that is, as regularly as she's allowed.
-
I don't have any 'outer. I only have my iPhone, I use it for everything.
-
I don't have any 'puter. I only have my iPhone, I use it for everything.
-
And I only have a Dell desk-top! With a BFMonitor! Ha, ha! I think it is a 23".... and it's on my little desk, in my little corner, with my all-in-one printer, in my little house!
It's all I want.... no lap-top, no smart-phone, nor tablet.... I just don't need that....
I have a simple cell-phone, for just $15 a month... no Internet on that. And I have a land-line.... and Oh.... Indoor plumbing! Ha, ha!
We even have 3 TV's! and out-dated potato salad.....
I have to call her.... and tell her my leg just hurts.... which it does, and I won't be walking her.... instead we will have that picnic, with that potato salad.
Okay, we have to get ready to walk up to Star-bucks! I can ALWAYS do that.... 2 Aleve, and I am ready to go! Don't tell PITA!

Ok, I'm depressed, bummed, pis$ed, all that. It's not about cancer. Just need to dump this.
My dad was a builder, built many many homes in the Eastern side of Cinti. Apartment bldgs too. Until I married, I always lived in a house my dad built. The last was a duplex in a small village.
My ever clueless BIL sent a tv news clip about how homes built in the 50s are being razed, to be replaced with CONDOs with prices starting at 750k!!!!!!!
Guess which block has a date with the wrecking ball. Yep. This last place was HOME for me. I woke up at 3 this morning thinking about my dog buried in the yard. I don't have a lot of roots or family, is it silly to be so upset about this?
Ok. Done dumping
-
Chevy, you make me laugh! Indoor plumbing, wow! How modern!
My closest Starbucks is 2-3 miles away, no walking, besides, I make mine at home (Magic Bullet makes great blend drinks).
Our Mac, upstairs, use when I feel like climbing the stairs:
No modem, it's all contained in that unit (except for external printer)
-
Spookiesmom, absolutely NO! Your BIL IS clueless. It's your heritage, your memories, your life! Can't imagine being in your spot, glad you felt comfortable enough to confide. That's your sacred ground.
-
Oh Spookie those are cherished memories, I don't blame u one bit.
Chevy I am going to find u'r PITA and tell them the truth cuz it's only right and u know I do everything right always on top of things, well I used to be when I had a partne==never mind.TMI--but I like the outdated pot. salad--good idea, but don't u have any just leave it there. That will teach them all to ever call u.
I'm doing lots of nothing today but I won't be by my computer much, so I'll get here whenever I can.
And no one get sad about being here another year we said that last year and we're still hangin' around--so don't even go there. Just enjoy the day with family.
-
Hello ladies! ~Happy 4th Of July!
spookiesmom - I hope you don't mind if I add my two cents. Your feelings about your situation are pretty 'right-on' if you ask me! I can only relate to it to the degree that my Dad has built several highways, and roadways that if they should ever decide to tear it all up and start over, to me, it's a 'part' of him, and in turn has valuable meaning to Me!!
I'm all for progress, but sometimes at what cost? Unfortunately, the 'stats' on that, are still out....
meanwhile, keep those treasures in your mind and heart.
2ndT - Niccccceeee Mac.... I'm officially jealous!
-
Chevy, that picture could have been taken right in my
kitchen!!And I’m very aware about the Prednisone!!I’ve refused it over and over!!I was just offered it for my elbow and said “no
way”!I puff up like a balloon and it is
NOT water for me!!I put it on and can
never get it off!!Bad bad experience
with prednisone and weight gain and I know that it is harmful with long term
use!!I was just wondering if it could make cancer pain go
away?I guess it can make any pain go
away while you are taking it!!That’s
why I actually felt good during chemo, it was all the steroids I was
getting! It was just nice to be pain
free for 24 hours and it only took a small dose!I took it at the suggestion of someone that
told me that if it helped with the pain, that I should go see another Dr, I
forget the kind, I have her name.It is NOT
pain management.I was told that she
could maybe help me figure out what was going on!! -
Okay Spookie! I don't blame you.... I have thought of that... when we...... oh wait.... You said your whole dog? Not just her ashes?
REALLY??? Those bastards.... I'm sorry...
I don't think there is anything you can do.... Is there? I mean could you go over, and maybe see the property, or where she is buried, and just talk to her awhile?
No, damnit, you are not silly.... It just makes me think of Lacee, and how would I feel...... But you can't think of it like that....
My folks are in Ca... In a beautiful cemetery... but I just think they are "together.... and gone." So if I ever go back, I'll go visit that site... But I just have to know they are "gone".... their ashes are there, but not them.... that's how I think anyway....
2222222nd! You smart-a$$ you! Everything is in THAT? It must be newer? It's a Mac? and how old IS it? Pretty new I'll bet! I need my modem to play CD's, or burn them, and set things on....
Cammi, don't pay any attention.... this is computer talk.... I barely understand it myself. I don't think I could transfer data and info to a Mac, could I?
And don't go tellin' PITA we are walking up to Starbucks! I just took 2 Aleve, got my cane, and we are ready to rumble...
I'm just going to talk to her, and ask WHAT she would do, if something like that happened to HER! Where would she go? Live with her bitch DIL and Son? They would drive her nuts! She won't go live with DH in that assisted living... Maybe somewhere else...
But the point is, it's all something we have to think about... I said if you get hurt.... (meaning like me) you would have to go to Hospital, and since you are alone, they would send you to some home, or something! And she said, probably a nursing home, and I said, "Probably to an insane asylum".... ! And we laughed... but it just got me to thinking.... "What if?" Now I have to "ponder."
Thanks Alive$Five, or whatever.... That is right! Sorry about your Dad..
Little memories like that just mean so much to us... When my Brother and I sold our Folks house, they had to tear out all of Mom & Dad's Rose gardens, fish-pond, Lanai, and just ALL of the plants they loved! They had to build up their back yard... I just wanted the new owners to leave everything alone... damn people!
Hi Nettie... Get that Doc's name.... we'll check her out.... and let you know what we think of her! Maybe she is some sort of internist? Or some sort of Quack? WE will find out!
-
Nettie, rheumatologist. Prednisone works for inflammatory problems. Like polymyositis.
Mistresses OMD I write owlettesses and auto correct changes it to mistresses. So need a new outer. Hmm another auto correct. Maybe I should write the whole message without correcting the correcting.
Welcome new friends. Alive5 you put such fun things on warm and fuzziness. Was hoping you would come here.
Peppermint yay you are becoming a regular. Jump in the waters fine.
Teka back on schedule.
Crashbangboom. Glad the good stuff did not get hurt. Husband once pulled the table apart to take the leaf out. There were dishes in the middle of the table. Half simply fell through. It was an " oh well" moment. I still laugh at the look on his face when he told me.
-
Jeff Dunham on tv. He is the biggest comedian in USA. Repeats next time slot. You will laugh your ads off. AUTO AGAIN. He is on the comedy channel. I LOVE Peanut the woosil. Hose Jalepeno on a Stick. Walter the old guy that will say anything. Achemed the dead terrorist.
-
sass, agree! Hahaha.. Jeff Dunham is a hoot! Indeed Very funny!
-
OMG Sas...that auto correct is cracking me up, I'm laughing my 'ads' off
)
Enjoy your Starbucks walk Chevy. Won't that PITA see you out there walking? Maybe you're wearing your chicken disguise
Happy Indepedence Day everyone
-
HEY, OWLETTES - DID ANYONE NOTICE? THIS IS OUR 500TH PAGE!!!
WE SURE ARE A CHATTY BUNCH!!!
-
Chevy, no chit, no modem! There's a slot (not slut) on the side of the screen for DVD/CD's, flash drive is inserted into slot on keyboard. Mac set-up is only the screen, keyboard and mouse, way cool! DH works in an industry that only uses Mac's. We got that one 6-8 years ago, not sure if DD was going into jr hi or HS (she's now a junior in college). The company he worked for almost 15 years let him purchase the set-up at their corporate rate, otherwise we could never afford it (but we paid for it), I think it's a professional model. It is very cool! Took me a while to learn as it is very different than PC/laptop.
Can you walk around the street on your way to Starbucks to avoid the PITA?
Wondering where in CA you're referring to?
And all this talk about "inserting" - get your mind out of the gutter!
Sassy, your timing is funny! About the auto-correct "mistresses": I'm sitting here watching my shows on DVR, now watching Mistresses. Are you psychic? Thanks for for the heads up on Jeff Dunham, you're a couple of hours ahead of us. Now have it set to DVR later.
Pawprint, hi neighbor! Hoping you enjoy your weekend and get some rest.
As seen as FB: May the fourth be with you!
Need to get out of my pj's and do something today.
-
Yes Blessings, I SAW that! Hah! Couldn't be ME, because I am the quiet reserved one....
And when we leave our house to walk to Starbucks, it is DOWN the street, instead of UP, like past her house....! We went over, and stayed an hour, and had a fun lunch, that I took.... even placemats, napkins, and red disposable plates, that I just wash forever!
She understands why I don't want to walk with her... We talked about what would we DO, if either one of us did a face-plant in the alley/street..... again! You don't just get up and brush yourself off, and skip merrily away.... like we used to.... When you break things, it takes 50 years for it to heal!
So we will have "picnics" and make each other laugh! Cammi, she is Italian.... She is married to an Italian.... do you remember how loud they talk? And how they don't hold anything back when they disapprove of someone or something???? Or like our government? Has ANYone ever been elected that they LIKE? I don't DARE even get into that stuff with her! You know, I think they would think the head of the Mafioso could be elected, just by being Italian, and getting all their "family" to vote!
I mean they don't normally VOTE, but if they heard Al Capone was running, they would BE there! They would bring him back, cement shoes and all, if they could!
222222T! Man, I don't know what ANY of you are talking about! Mistresses? WHO'S a mistress? No, she works on a job.... with her phone...... (she says)
-
500 pages? Aren't we the chatty bunch!! See what you started Sassy!
Chevy, I know you have a TV! Mistresses is summer decadent splurge on ABC, can't believe women act like that in real life.
So, Starbucks, walk down the street, up the street to return? Be careful, sweetie!
-
Walter (Jeff Dunham) – I love the bit he does about “welcome
to walmart, get your sh*t and get out”!!LOLOk, doctors name is Agnes Salon, actually I know her on a
personal basis, she boards her dog with us, but I know nothing about her
practice! However, I do think she may be
a rheumatologist!I have a lot of plans this weekend, so right now, I was
hurting pretty good, so I grabbed a xanax and my laptop and I hope to catch a
nap before tonight!Going to an art walk
then fireworks, tomorrow going to my brothers (about two hours away) for a
birthday party, church Sunday morning, then birthday supper for my MIL Sunday night,
then back to work on Monday!Oh yea, I
know xanax isn’t for pain, but it usually chills me enough so that I can rest
and sometimes, rest helps with the pain!I'm also a little upset right now, this site is most of the time awesome, but today, on another thread, one of the ladies died! That always upsets me, but today, and this is selfish, it really bothers me because in her dx line, she was only stage 1, and there is a big gap about what was going on with her. Just scares me!!
Well, xanax seems to be kicking in, so I'll check back in later!
