Good Morning owl of you--Get it??? I know it's awful.
Well Chevy u and I are up, like old people do, just admt it. And I know u'r garden will be beautiful, I remember, but I can't believe u still have this silly weather going on. It's almost June.Just don't get hit with a hail thingy--protect yourself, u don't have any room for any more head damage in any way. After all u already had to give up u'r poledancing and other nitely activities. Yes I thought that would impress u that I actually knew what a wound vac is--haha I'm more aware than u think---but this_____________ that Sas does I have no clue.
Tang so glad u got that all figured out--good thing u called like Sas said--I didn't think of that. Now we hope it all works out and like Chevy said PM or just talk here to Lee, she's familiar with this anti.
Sally again--happy news.
Paw I bet Snuggs will stop all that silliness and help Annie Mae soon, u'll see, at first they have to play the big shot then their instincts click in and they help.
I hope everyone has a calm weekend--I plan on going to me DD1's home--all our cousins will be there--(well from one side) and hopefully weather is good so we can use the pool, at least it's heated so that helps. Most of us will just stay overnite there and maybe I will have a drink. hahaha I never mis some of my meds with drinks so it just depends, Oh yes I will bing my depends to-Since I had it all day yesterday I hope my D is gone now for a few days.1
OK BBL have a wonderful Sat.

Chevy..the quote is from an American author named Dorothy Parker. I found a couple otherquotes from her.
"When asked to use the word 'horticulture' in a sentence: You can lead a horticulture, but you can't make her think."
"That woman speaks eight languages and can't say no in any of them."
Of course, Sheldon Cooper said itonThe Big Bang Theory as well.

Tang sorry you had to go through all that. Levaquin even though it has it's problems, is a good "best guess" first drug until the sensitivity comes in. "Best guess" is a real term. Until the sensitivity is back, it's important to start antibiotic therapy in the presence of a known bacteria. Your wound presence is suspicious of bacteria. Sounds crazy to say suspicious, but until the sensitivities back with the final documentation. It's suspicious only, but 99.9999% suspicious.
What you experienced is called a wound dehiscence-wound that opens at incision line.
Please read through the wound care thread I linked. There are sections on wound evaluation, how to do a dressing change. What to watch for. When to report if there's a change. Taking pictures to document changes.
If your up to it call the answering service and ask the on call doc for the homecare referral. They have better products for wound management, that will aid in healing. Levaquin is a good antibiotic, but does have it's problems. Avoid running and distance walking. If you have any Achilles pain report it right away, or any new pain of other joints. This is a link to dailymed.nlm. Please read. All drugs have consequenses. Most drugs have long list of s.e.'s and warnings. it's better to understand about your drug then taking it blindly

On Monday I'll talk you through finding out how to get the sensitivity. If things seem stable you could wait till Tuesday.
If you develop a fever, you can call the answering service. But my recommendation is go to the emergency department. Call ahead to ER and use these words. I am an immunocomprimised chemo patient(I forget where you are chemo(?), with a wound and fever. What should be done at ER is you are immediately put in an isolation room. Isolation is a good thing.
The fever tells you that the bodies immune system is fighting the infection, but it can also warn us that the bacteria is going to the whole body--systemic. The safe choice is ER. This is not a situation that taking aspirin or acetaminophen is the right thing to do. Don't mean to scare you with any of this. But you need to know when to take a different action. You can't do that without information.

Chevy a wound vac can be used even on small wounds. The decision to take it off when it has decreased the dimensions of the wound can be difficult b/c it then changes wound healing times. i.e. leave vac on a couple more days versus take it off and then end up with standard dressings for a couple three more weeks. Wound Vacs are incredible. Then can take wounds that used to be impossible and heal them in short order.Once in place they create a protective barrier. Then when suction is applied, the suction draws blood to the area. In that fresh blood are all the wound healing elements. Plus, the red blood cells carry oxygen. Bacteria that grow in non oxygen environments die in oxygen environments. Very good. It's marvelous. The suction then draws off all the bacteria dead or alive, and wound debris into a suction container.
But not all wounds are appropriate for it's use. A wound care certified doc or nurse should be the person to determine it's use.
Did I do better this time?
Love the Sassy Chic ---:)
-
Susan, great to hear your "good news". Time for Poseco...
-
Okay Sassy, you know what that reminded me of? Cupping.... and then I found this....
http://www.hindawi.com/journals/bmri/2014/297230/
Is this similar, or the same idea?
In fact, I remember reading on this site, how some women DID believe in "cupping".... or was it someone like Suzanne Summers and her beliefs?
-
Chevster, I think, Blessings was doing cupping along with acupuncture.
Chemo brain, so my apologies if I am confused...
Hope all is having a good weekend. I am heading to a funeral and then a graduation party.
-
tang, how are you doing today?
Pawprints, how is Annie Mae today? Hoping Snugs has let the foolishness go and get that she now has a job to do. How are you?
Susan, still doing the happy dance?
Chevy, thanks for my Saturday smiles and laughs. Love your yard, very pretty and comfortable.
Chevy, hoping you're enjoying your day away. Put your phone on voice mail and forget about the calls if you can.
Hi1, what a day of mixed emotions for you! Have fun at the graduation party!
Just gotta say, I am so grateful for BCO/Insomniacs friends who call (when I need it most) and we talk for hours! Thank you, my friend!
Jwoo, hope you're lurking, haven't heard from you in a while.
Am still giggling about the Where's Waldo tatt!

-
Excellent,
-
2nd LOL.
And I have the same questions u have, BTW did u mean Chevy and her calls, cuz that's usually me.
-
Chevy The link you pulled up, that's exactly it. Major advancement in wound care. Introduced late 90's. Loved the thing. But sometimes it could be a bugger putting one on. How it would be compared to cupping no clue. Haven't studied cupping. Blessings has done it, and speaks positively of it. I'll defer to her expertise on cupping -
Sass.... This might sound funny, but I remember my Grandma, putting a little piece of raw bacon on top of a splinter, or piece of metal in our fingers.... and then taping it there. It would pull any infection out....and any piece of petal or splinter! It really worked! I have STILL done it occasionally! So what you talked about makes a lot of sense!
Oh! and Mustard Plasters... With a peice of wool on top, under a T-shirt! That was for our chest colds! Also a shot of whiskey before we went to bed.... EVEN when we were little! That to me was worse than medicine. My Mom would give my Brother and I Cod Liver Oil.... so we wouldn't get "Rickets!" And she had this "salve" she called it.... that was for evrything else.... "drawing salve!"
And Turpentine was for any kind of bug-bite!
I think they were trying to kill us....
-
. For chest colds, and coughs!
You mix Colemans Powdered Mustard with equal parts flour.... Make a Poultice, with water.... then spread it on wool, preferably, cover it with another picec, and place on your chest or neck, and cover, and keep warm...
Don't let it blister.... but it really helped!

Oh boy we're going back, but another thing was the slimy part of the raw egg---calm down Chevy---u put in on a wound and draws all the infection out- But I do have to say my Dad's fav. was drawing salve, he always used it and we always had it in the house--that was a staple.
-
My screen just changed color---WTF?
-
OK it's back???? I just had 2 calls today and I took the responsibility to take care of it myself, I knew the guys were having a party so no emergencies, but I asked him to call back Tuesday and I set up a time. Who knows????
So tonite I've gotten my clothes ready for tomorrow and tom. nite so I'm right on time, I talked to my cousin today and they were going too so that's my real treat., now if my sister comes I'd really be happy but they always have so many things to do cuz they have 4 girls --married and someone is always doing something on the weekends--I can't keep up with them at all. It's an early start around 2pm and will go til whenever--these guys sleep over so I'll see how long I can keep up. Well my cousin ore sister won't sleep over but all the kids will---KIDS they're all in their 50's haha, mine are the 2 younges in their 40's but they are still the kids.
-
OH Chevy the old recipes. Was the drawing salve called icthamol--black, gooey, sticky, stinky? It's still around LOL. I make sure I have it in my box of ointments and creams. Even with my bad sense of smell, I can smell it.
Cami sounds like so much fun. Total disavdvantage of being away from family is the holidays. But then there are the pseudo-families. The friends that are coming tomorrow are family like friends. One of my BFF's is staying over night. Lovely.
-
Hi all,
Just checking in. I am kicking back resting and watching movies. Annie Mae is healing really well and navigating her way around better each day. Had to bring her in from the back yard because a hawk was circling above. She'd be finger food for that big hawk. Snuggs slept most of the day, except when it was time to eat. I'm thinking snuggs may think I'm the alpha dog, so she doesn't try to do much. Although, she's got sleeping down really well.
Tomorrows a busy day of family birthday celebrations. No Memorial day BBQ because my family decided they wanted Chinese food and pie...interesting combination.
What are the plans for Memorial Day weekend with you all?
-
Paw I told my thing for tomorrow but I'm so glad Annie Mae is doing so well. Maybe u have to be the Alpha for a while anyway.
Sas that was me with the salve and yes that is the name. LOL
-
Hi Cami, yes I saw that you were going to your DD1's house. it sounds like a great time with the family and I hope the weather is good. Enjoy yourself.
)
-
ok Chevy...next you r going to have us lancing things, sucking out the poison and spitting...lol
Glad Annie Mae is doing well...hope u r resting with her pawprint. That was a lot for both of you to go through.
Sas...what would we do without you ? You r so on top of things with advice. Thanks for keeping us well informed.
And yes I am still doing the happy dance...but real tired from it right now. Slept great last night and feel another good night coming on for sleep.
Tang...hope that heals up quickly...are u still on chemo?? I wonder how much that slows healing down.
I have had great luck with that antibiotic..hope undo too.
Everyone have a great rest of your holiday weekend. I a going to bore you with some more post of my gardens....I bet you can't wait !!
-
I love sitting on my screen porch
-
the robins have a ball in the bird bath. They make me laugh....wish I could catch a pic of them someday
-
I have free beans, cucumbers, tomatoes, sage, parsley, basil, and thyme, beans have already pooped. They r in the rows. So fun..
-
These dahlias got snowed on and froze! Can't believe they survived ! Ok, I am done boring you. Maybe tomorrow I will take pictures of the front of the house. Nighty night
-
Susan, beans poop? Haha
Just caught up. Was gone all day teaching a quilt class to about 20. Everyone was happy with their results. So much variety. We made convergent quilts like this. I think only one person got a small border on.
Tang, where are you? You didn't post all day Saturday. Hope things are ok.
-
Just not a good day for me. Seems like all the pain is back, arm, elbow, hip and back. Sigh!!
So tired of hurting and not knowing how to fix it. I can't take pain meds..so for me tonight it's hello xanax and pray for some rest.
Glad annie mae is better and I enjoyed the pics. Still cheering for Susan's good news and hoping tang is better.
I.... know I didn't get around to all so I'll just say hoping you all have a great memorial day weekend.
