Praying Wren
Patty hi
Shep thanks, they work ....
Wenchie, we're in your trick bag
-
Wenchie I was looking at some research for Phyllis. Came across this on Beta blockers for TNBC. It's solid research. Published March 1 2016.
http://medicalxpress.com/news/2016-03-beta-blockers-triple-negative-breast.html
" To make their discovery, Halls and colleagues examined how an aggressive triple negative breast cancer cell responds to the stress hormone adrenaline. They found that an aggressive breast cancer tumor cell has a cell surface protein called "beta2-adrenoceptor" that can binds both beta-blockers and the stress hormone adrenaline. When bound to adrenaline, the beta2-adrenoceptor on these tumor cells stimulates a positive signaling loop to accelerate invasion. When bound to beta-blocker, however, the accelerated invasion of these cells was decreased."(emphasis mine)
Not a cure, but could be a drug in the arsenal
-
Thank you Sassy, more reading for me to do before my next appointment. I love it! 👍
-
Sassy, I take a beta blocker called Spironolactone. I take it as a water pill and not for high blood pressure as I have low blood pressure. After doing a little research on this drug it is linked to possibly higher risks of BC. I'm not saying that it has anything to do with my BC. I checked my medical records and I've been taking it since 8/27/2015... things that make you go Hhhmmm....
-
Wren - So sorry to hear about your niece. Will lift her up in prayer too.
Shep - I use supplements that are certified natural (not synthetic), non-GMO and soy free. That said, the Turmeric I use is from Dr. Mercola.com The dose is 2 capsules, 1 time a day. It contains Turmeric & Ginger Root powders (certified organic).
I contacted iHerb today AGAIN, because the last CS agent said they would be sending me a return shipping label within 24-48 hours, and I haven't gotten it yet. Since the probiotics are already spoiled, they are sitting in the original packaging waiting for the label. I've told them 3-4 times I am going in the hospital on Thursday. Today I told them that if I don't have that label by tomorrow afternoon, I will contact the BBB and file a dispute claim for the charge with my bank. I doubt even that concerns them though.
I've dealt with iHerb for a couple years and it is just in the last several months things have gone down hill. They used to have live CS agents you could speak to on the phone, but now you can only contact them via their chat line. I suspect that the company may have been bought out or merged with another company, which might explain the sudden decline in their customer service.
In regards to my half-sister, I am prepared to accept it if she chooses not to contact me. We share a father who was not a nice person and I don't know what her relationship was with him. She has always lived near him when he was still alive. I hadn't seen him since I was 2. So who knows what she may think my purpose is in contacting her now.
Patty - Good to see you! Hope you're doing better.
Smaarty - What type of small pillows are you referring to in your post to Wenchie? I ask because I am wondering if they are something that would be helpful to me after my surgery.
-
Smaarty, no I haven't gotten my small pillows yet. Honestly I forgot all about them until you reminded me. I sew a little, how small should I make them? I'd love a set if you can spare them!
-
Maybe we should start a traveling pillows thread? We can make some that can be written on with name, date etc and passed on to the next in line for surgery. They can add their name post a picture of the pillows and keep going until the pillows are filled up (unfortunately!) 🙁
-
the ones I received and made are about 7 x 12. Used under the armpits to add extra padding. I will get them made ASAP. I don't know if this size would help you JunieB. I know my sewing group made larger size for those having sx like hysterectomy. You're having hip, right?
I like the idea of sharing if possible. It's been 1-1/2 since my last sx but I still use one of mine in the car because the seat belt bothers me on longer drives.
Wrench, pm me your address. They'll come by priority mail. I'll let you know when they're in the mail.
Wren, sorry for your niece, hope things are improving.
-
Smaarty - Thanks for the info. And yes my right hip is what is being done. So I don't think the pillows will be necessary. Thanks again.
-
JunieB, that is so frustrating and annoying with iherb. When is your surgery date again? Waiting with you to see if your half sis response.
Lori, Spironolactone is an aldosterone antagonist. It can cause breast enlargement by converting testosterone to estradiol. It is interesting that there is no strong evidence that link Spironalactone and breast cancer, but there are reports of breast cancer in patients taking Spironalactone. What?!? We need more studies but who will fund it?
-
Loverly - Thursday, June 9th. Don't have time yet. They'll call me Tuesday or Wednesday with that.
-
Ok 👍...will keep you in prayers. Will you have access to internet in the nursing home?
-
Hey MammaRay! I was thinking about you while I was in the shower earlier. I'm sorry the headache and tummy ache is keeping you up. Hoping gamma knife is working and the headache is just a temporary side effect.
Patty, hugs.
-
Thank you. I am good. Just a bit gassy (sorry tmi)....probably from eating two cloves of garlic earlier and a small portion of lasagna several hours ago. Other than that no complaints. Is your son on summer break? I remember you home school him. Hope you find relief for your headache soon. Nite nite and hugs.
-
MammaRay
Wren I hope your niece is doing better.
-
wren. Praying for your niece.
Hootie hoo
-
Thank you Lover for the information on Spironolactone. Leave it to me to read the wrong article about it, I've learned something new today. How would one go about getting research started? Funding would be a great thing! Now, should I stop taking Spironolactone? As I mentioned I'm only using it to help stop my hair loss. Being bald would be easier to deal with than BC, but then again BC is already here.
-
-
Lori, I am not qualified to advise you to continue or stop taking Spironolactone. I do think our self image does play a role in our mental health. There are many risk factors for breast cancer. Spironolactone might not be shown to be a risk factor in large population, but we really don't know for sure of the individual risk factor. Have you tried minoxidil?
This is a pie chart of proposed budget for 2016:
Out of the &31.1 billion, NCI gets $5 billion +. Would love to see the piece of pie a bit bigger for research.
-
Loverly - I will be taking my cell phone & charger with me, so that will be my only access to the web. I've gotten onto this site once with my phone, but screen is small and difficult to read, but will still try.
-
Thank you Lover, I haven't tried minoxidil yet but I do use a shampoo and conditioner with peppermint and thathelps to stimulate the hair folicals.
-
Wren ~ hope you get some good news on your niece. Prayers sent.
Patty ~ Good to see you
Loverly ~ I've been worried for you! You tell us you're going on a little "getaway" and post a pic out the car window showing heavy traffic and a convoy of military vehicles......was there "something" you didn't want to tell us about? My goodness! I got my bargain tablet in the mail Thursday. I love it! I'm typing on it right now
Best Buy still has them in on sale for 39.99 shipped. Highly reccomend, nice picture, lots of nice feature and runs fast. It can use wifi or a Sim card from Verizon. This is the first tablet I've seen that can be used as phone when the Sim is installed. Here's the link again:
Insignia 8" Flex Tablet - 8GB Black NS-15T8LTE
JunieB ~ How long will you be in the nursing home? You need to be online! Do I need to send you a tablet? ( Shhh, I have FFH's store charge card) Love the Monday Pom! I have a soft spot for Pomerainians. So cute and so full of spunk. Smart little doggies. Following Boo on Facebook is one of my guilty pleasurers! Have you seen pics of the "designer" Pom breeds? They are being cross bred with Huskies and German Shepherds. So wrong, but sooooo adorable!
Purple ~ Your backyard looks heavenly! It must be soon nice to nap in the hammock. Hope the blahs fade away soon. Why can't some brilliant scientists create ways to turn all of our SEs into feeling great, looking marvelous? Have you started rads yet?
MammaRay ~ (((hugs)))
SAS ~' Did DS do his lawyerlie duty and fix things for Donnie?
Big "Hey" to everyone
-
Wenchie, spiralactone/aldactone is not a beta blocker. I'm confused what made you think it was. I don't know everything, so I went and checked. And there is nothing related to beta activity. It has a very convoluted affect on the kidney aldosterone. But again nothing beta. It's common claim to fame is it's a potassium sparing diuretic. It used to be used as a last resort diuretic for kidney disease. But more recently as a first line diuretic versus Lasix/furosemide.
The article is specific to a beta 2 blocker. The article has a good description. What the article doesn't say is beta2 blockade is absolutely contraindicated in asthma. Lethal. The most common drugs used have beta1 & beta 2 affects. i.e. coreg, carvidiolol, Inderal, tennormin. Here's a list it's simpler.
http://howmed.net/pharmacology/beta-adrenoceptor-blockers/
Starting to get to technical. There is an enzyme on the cell TNBC surface that has beta 2 receptors. By blocking the receptor it slows down cell proliferation. There that's simple

Loverly, I took Micardis for a few years until I found out it was linked to BC. I wasn't happy. Also, I found out that HCTZ has a link to diabetes. I wasn't happy about that one either. Plus all oral hypoglycemic except metformin and starlix, lead eventually to type 1 diabetes. Wasn't happy on that one either. Of course the time I lost part of my colon b/c of Celebrex, I was the most unhappy. That's when I made up the phrase "All drugs have consequences". Not that that was wholly original to me, but it became a mantra.
HI> MAMMARAY, sorry you are feeling poorly, praying sweetie. How lonf till Gamma ray is done?
Wenchie, you can ask your doc to switch to another diuretic. BUT BUT have them read the article and maybe a low dose Beta1/beta 2 drug will accomplish what you need and it be a two for one drug. Definitely push the buttons on this one since you want off spirolactone. Who prescribed the spirolactone?
I could go a speaking tour of how and why drugs are prescribed the way they. I won't. But seriously this would be a good time to ask for a drug that has a beta2 blocker in it.
-
Shep - A flex tablet is an interesting idea, but I don't know where I'll be for rehab or if they'll have wi-fi. Most do I'm sure. Plus any extra money I have I am putting aside for puppy. So, I think my smart phone will work well enough for now. I'll for sure be checking in. Also taking my knitting and hopefully a book or two. There are 3 David Baldacci books I want to read. Will check the local library tomorrow.
It was 98 & 99 degrees here on Sat. Sun. and today is 95 degrees. UGH! AWFUL, AWFUL, AWFUL! All I can say is I am so glad we weren't alive a 100-150 years ago when women wore those petticoats and full dresses. Can't even imagine.
Oh yeah, almost forgot, I agree that mixing breeds is just a crime against nature. A Pomeranian and a larger dog like you listed, just so wrong. The Pom's are already cute enough just the way God made them.
-
OH Junie, so funnie about the breed thing. I didn't see a pic, But all breeds came from breeding different dogs with certain characteristics to get to another breed. But I know you know that. Where I object to breeding is when they go for looks versus health and smarts. Or they don't recognize that inbreeding allows for genetic defects that cause for too many problems. One breed is the Bernese Mountain Dog. I became entrance with the breed because of a documentary. Looked at their bio, not good health wise. http://www.bmdca.org/health/diseases.php Not good.
But I so seriously loved all my dogs, as we all do. I wish I had cremated all of them so they could be with my ashes, that will eventually be blown to the wind.
-
Donnie was so funny with the blow coming. I asked if it was right or left coast. He prepared for several days. I kept saying is it on our coast. I got interested about 4:30 this afternoon. We had heavy rain for a total of about 40 minutes. The west coast of Florida was much more impacted.as was the north of Florida east coast. Very lazy. But we have a long season of storms. Learned long ago, lay in supplies in June for the whole season, then only pay attention when it's serious to our area, otherwise it can make one too crazy.
Donnie broke one of my special pieces of glass tonight. Took me a bit to get over it. Bummer. But it does support why special glass must be used versus put in a cupboard. Can't enjoy their specialness stuck away in a cupboard.
