Barbe I'm hoping your Christmas went well and you got the photo you wanted.........I know you will have enjoyed having those darling boys around you.
Well all mine have finally gone, beds are stripped and rooms back in order. Kitchen cleaned and everything returned to its rightful place and the washing machine is doing its thing while I sit here on my iPad talking to you all and enjoying a peaceful cup of tea. It is lovely to see them all and I really do enjoy it but some days I'm with my old dog, it all gets so overwhelming! I don't know if its the age thing or if its the BC thing but whatever it is, it's a pain in the neck!..........lol.........I used to revel in having a house full and having to cook for everyone without getting flustered but that seems to be happening more and more.......sigh!.........oh well, it's all done for another year and I'm hoping that I will still be as good as I am same time next year.
Love n hugs. Chrissy -
Friday evening did go well! I made the mistake yesterday of sending my DD an email that mentioned it was the first time I'd seen Zach "fussy". She over-reacted...sigh....and now I think she's mad at me. I HATE worrying about every little nuance in emails. You can't tell tone of voice like you can on the phone. I was actually quite impressed to see that he can get angry. I hadn't seen it yet. Oh well. A whole year before next Christmas!!
-
This is what it looks like outside today.
Not too much, just really icy. But very pretty.
-
Hi girls! Just taking a breather before I start cooking the new year treats.........more food!! Thank goodness this only comes around once a year!........lol.
Mac that pic looks gorgeous! I'd love to see that much snow here.......not likely but not impossible, it did happen about a hundred years ago......lol.
Oh Barbe I'm sorry you DD took you email the wrong way..........I don't understand why the young ones are so defensive? but I'm so glad you spent a great day with the boys fussy or not.
3jays I sure hope you are in and finally settled so you can rest and recuperate. Glad you got at least a day to spend with your grands.
Well it's the last day of 2012 here and the sunrise will bring who knows what..........here's hoping it bring each of us joy and good health and all the things we would wish for.
Happy New Year all!!!
Love n hugs. Chrissy -
Chrissy, I know what you mean about getting everything back in it's proper place. the living room has to be rearranged to make a space for the tree. And I put it in the front windows so it can be seen by people passing by, but it blocks a lot of light. I got the tree dismantled and DS put it outside yesterday before the storm and his leaving. He wants to spend New Year's eve with his buddies. But today I got a call from him complaining about his roomates non cleaning habits. I had to keep my mouth shut because he was not the best housekeeper before he went into the Marines. It's funny b/c he lived alone last year and was too lonely.
Barbe, I'm glad your family get together went well. Too bad about the misunderstanding with DD in the email. I remember when I was younger, I thought any one commenting about my child's behavior was really making a statement about my parenting skills. I hope it gets straightened out before next Christmas.
Isabella, I hope you are cozy and warm with your new bedding. Please don't float away.
-
Isabella, surely home your wind and bad weather go away soon!
Love the picture, Mac. Today was the coldest day we've had with high in the 40's. (F, that is.) Last year we had no ice or snow at all and usually we get at least one snow--global warming? Before, we'd always get one major snowfall, with over a foot and sometimes even losing power. Not that I miss that part, or the power going out and no heat, but I do love to watch it snow.
DS called tonight and asked us if we'd take the 3 year old DGS tomorrow, a cry for help if I've ever heard one! DGS has no doubt realized that the new baby is NOT going away, so I'll think of something special for us to do tomorrow.
What is it about the younger generation, Barbe? (And I can't believe I wrote that! WE'RE supposed to be the younger generation.) But, they're hypersensitive to what they feel is criticism I suppose, when it was just a simple remark. I understand though, because I tend to walk on eggs with what I say to my DIL.
DD has her first appointment with her OB tomorrow, so maybe we'll find out when her baby is due. She thinks August. Going from 1 grandchild to 3 in 8 months is a bit overwhelming.
Chrissy, I guess I'll be cooking for New Year's a day later than you! Hope yours is happy! In the South we're "supposed" to have black-eyed peas, collards, and hog jowl. DH loves collards (I don't) and we both like black-eyed peas okay, but don't know about the hog jowl. DH cooked for the homeless shelter Friday night and the butcher he got pork chops from gave him a complimentary pack of hog jowl. My first reaction was yuck, but DH says if I like bacon I'll like it. Well, who doesn't like bacon??

Kathy our tradition is the Dutch one.........DH is Dutch.........so they are sweet. Apple Flappen and Olle Bollen. The first one is battered apple slices dusted with powdered sugar and eat hot or cold and the second is a yeast based dough filled with black currants and deep fried. Served dusted with either powdered sugar or cinnamon sugar. Both are very yummy and leave you wanting to consume more.....lol......just what I don't need......lol.......oh well at least they only get made once a year!

Chrissy we were posting at the same time LOL
I am going to have a quiet New Year's day. No special cooking for me.
For NYE I am going to a pizza party at my BFF's house. She is more than 10 years younger than me and has kids in high school and one still in elementary school. It will be from 6-10pm. My kind of party. And it will be fun to be with young people. They have an outdoor pizza oven.
So my New Year's resolution is to figure out what to do with the rest of my life.
-
There will be no cooking for me on New Year's Day. We will have black-eyed peas at some point during the day, but they will be in a salad. DH and I are both still stuffed from Christmas and it's leftovers at DD#2's house. Hope eveyone has a Happy New Year. AJ
-
New Year's Day is very casual for us. We will probably take MiL out for lunch. As a child we celebrated Hogmanay and went First Footing after going to church (funny we didn't have a service on Christmas day but we had a Watchnight Service on New Year's Eve). I can remember my brother playing the pipes standing in the middle of the intersection.
It will quiet tonight as we are baby sitting. Hope we can get them to sleep at a reasonable hour.
Hope the New Year will bring health and happiness for all.
-
2013 is here, hope its a good one! - well for me it is!!
-
Lol Aly there is still two hours and ten minutes to go here!
-
Fireworks have finished - I think so its time for bed. Do hope small boy doesn't waken again. I sure he was dreaming. Enjoy the rest of your evening. Not so humid tonight so hope to get some sleep.
-

Happy New Year to everyone....we still have an hour to go. I shall be just about tucked up in bed by then.
I don't like NYE at all, never have, DD calls me a wet blanket !! She has a monster party going on tonight. The noise level is off the scale. I had great trouble hearing her when she rang me at 9pm to try and change my mind about going to her house, as 'everyone' was there ! The 'phone will be ringing off the hook at midnight, as she rings again to wish me Happy New Year...I NEVER climb out of bed to answer her ...so maybe I am a wet blanket !!!
Have been shopping today, at last, but hardly got anything. It was miserable and raining sideways again, so only went in 2 shops. I got caught out in the floods coming home. Went the quiet back roads way, as the main roads were just heaving with traffic, but forgot one of the roads I have to go along floods....and suddenly came on 'Road closed. Floods' signs, so it meant a 12 mile backtrack, and home on the busy roads....so am in no mood to party!
barbe, hope you sort out with DD, they do suddenly take offence, at something that to us isn't offensive! I have had many an argument with DD about her lax (to me) way of parenting. I very rarely keep my mouth shut, and just cannot sit by and see her children getting away with murder. They are very rarely disciplined, made to do as they are told, nor given any responsibilities. I often see Gsons looking at me out of the corner of their eyes when they are acting up, waiting for me to step in and correct them !!! Which I do ! Even SIL warns them 'Grandma will sort you out' he daren't stand up and go against DD, and pull the kids into line, his life would be a misery if he did!
Mac.. lovely picture postcard picture of the snow. I fear your snow is headed our way in the next few days. That WILL be nice, snow ontop of floods !!! Glad you got your tree down.
Kathy, I know what you mean about walking on eggs with DIL. I am the same with my DIL, but have to say her children are much better behaved, and better mannered than DDs brood. She keeps her foot on them and pulls them quickly into line...I still watch how I say things to her, but never can fault her parenting !
I am off for a nice long shower now, after putting my head out of the door and bellowing at my alsations barking the place down. One shout from me... and they just carry on barking, but at least I feel I have tried to shut them up. I shalln't hear them when I get into bed, and I wish them both sore throats in the morning !!

Happy New Year everyone!
I had a good time at the pizza party and am now ready for a good night's sleep. The new year will ring in even if I am sleeping.

Hi all, my year has not started well as I ask sitting vigil with my brother and sisters for my mom. We knew it was coming but it's still not easy.
A few prayers for a peaceful passing would be appreciated. Thank you all.
