KAARA, glad the injection went well. Also glad you have a place to be til ac is fixed. Eric, glad Sharons results are good. Yay. Laurie, I am happy your DS took your suggestion, he looked so handsome. And, of course, now he can wear what he wants and he's happy too! LOL much love to all.

Laurie, he is adorable.....lookin' so grown up and proud to be going off to school! Our little DGS is off to his toddler school this week too. I'm wondering how much more "academic" it might be than his little toddler camp. It occurred to me how many many years this guy will be in "school"!

I've been trying to catch up on reading many days of posts since over the long weekend I spent most of my time writing case summaries to pass on to my replacement. WOW! Glad that's done! I was pulling all niters and am well out of college! LOL

So of all the meals I've had over the past week, one bit of food really stands out. At our beach party, our neighbor, a guy who is a pilot, made these incredible appetizers...jalapeno peppers stuffed with sausage and wrapped in bacon. WOW, were they good if you like a bit of heat!

Today I went to lunch with a friend at Not Your Avg Joes and had the most tasty watermelon tomato gazpacho, and then sliced flank steak with tomatillo sauce, some really sweet corn on the cob, and a watercress and grape tomato salad. Yummm. So tonight we will be having smoothies for dinner....and DH has not objected to the idea! :)

I bet some of you have a watermelon gazpacho soup recipe.....

    Welcome to our new chatters....

Sorry to individually miss so many, but hope you are all doing well.

Lacey - glad you checked in, I was beginning to wonder what you were up to!

Laurie - your kids are so cute!

Kaara - glad your injections went OK.  Still makes my eyes water just thinking about it!

I think we are having grilled pork chops, fresh corn and cole slaw for dinner tonight.  After getting my hair cut and colored, I went to the Mall of NH and JCP was having quite the sale - I bought 3 pairs of shorts, 1 pair of long white pants and 1 top for $32.  How do you beat that except at a consignment store!!!  The top was the most expensive thing at $14.  I was quite proud of myself, and I may go check out the local JCP near me.  Shorts were $4-$6!  Now I have some nice new ones for Hawaii Kiss  I really want to find a long flowy sundress, but I may have missed my opportunity to buy that around here.  Of course, I can shop in LA or when I get to Hawaii.  I'm so bad Wink

Is he the one that did the crying?  He looks like he can handle his own.

Bourbon Steak Tips over wide noodles for suppa tonight.

BTW, the cortisone shots did nothing for DH, he was in pain during our UK trip.  Had a wheelchair ready at the airports and other attractions.  He had an appnt with the orthopedic surgeon and instead of surgery he is going to inject him with a lubricant and hope this works.  DH has the same doctor I have for his Thrombocytopedia, she is a hematologist/oncologist and the other doctor has to consult with her before surgery of any kind.  The orthopedic surgeon/Dr. Sigman, said he has to check with my health insurance to make sure they will cover the cost of the injection.

Deborye, isvyhat the synivist njectin? I had it in both knees, and it helped for about two months. Since it was the months I recovered from BMX, I was happy. But short time for me, and its very expensive. Perhaps your husband will have a longer time for it to work. I can't complain, because when it worked it meant I could help myself off the toilet and out of chairs by myself, so generally a lifesaver.

Good for you Michelle! I'd say go for it, how often do you get to go to Hawaii? But I know you get to go pretty often Lol.

Laurie, he looks adorable and so proud of himself. And how cute of your younger son. I really miss those days. My baby went to her first day of high school onTuesday. I remember she cried every day of preschool. She was shy, but still a pistol. When I picked her up the first day, her teacher couldn't wait to tell me her story. She said she called on her, Robyn, but she didn't answer. She asked her why she wasn't answering, and Robyn told her, my name is Britney Spears. She was only three. The things she learned from her older brothers! Wish I knew how to post pictures, I'd post her first day of high school pic. We bought and returned two outfits before she finally settled on the third one. And today, the second day she forgot her lunch already. Also not unusual for her.

Lacey, that sounds good. Went to a barbecue over my BIL's on Labor Day, and MIL made watermelon gazpacho. It was good too, so much lighter than the gazpacho I make. I enjoyed it a lot too. And we made potato salad with purple potatoes, Greek and regular yogurt, dill, onions and cucumber. Everyone liked that too.

Carrie, never heard of salt potatoes here in Philly either.h

Nice to hear some good news! Very happy for Sharon's news Eric. Don't know why that doctor wouldn't tell you that over the phone though, it's a shame you went through those extra days of worry. And glad to hear your injection went well Kaara. My eyes twitch when I read about it too.

Had fajitas with corn on the cob tonight. The corn was from the CSA and really Delish, the Anita's were good too. Last night DH made some chicken with grape tomatoes and onions. That was really good, and used up some of the tomatoes we are overflowing with. I think I am going to try making some pasta fichoule (spelling?) too.

    Have a great night everyone.

Today I went comfort food. Had some leftover boiled potatos and some Canadian bacon. so made scalloped potatoes with carrots. Yum. Could have eaten the whole dish, but controlled myself. Will probably eat it for breakfast. LOL

    Thank you everyone.

Kaara, I guess I could get a shot in my eye...but unless I passed out first, my blood pressure would be way high! :-)

Laurie, your son looks like he'd be a lot of fun.

When I drive the bus in the mornings, I especially enjoy the first few days of school. On the first day, the kindergartners are scared stiff. By the third day, it is "old hat". It also is fun watching the kids grow up. The teachers get the kids for one year. I get them the whole time they are at school.

Michelle, Just thinking of you as I watched the Hawaiian delegation caste their vote wearing their beautiful floral head wreaths. Love your bargains for your trip!

Kaara so glad that you had no problem with this injection! You are still very brave in my book!

Eric, I always got to watch the kids grow up through the years, too. So much fun to help them along the way. Am missing it already. Tomorrow I transfer all my cases to the new person....a relief yet a sad thing for me.

Loved that job....and am very envious that the new caseload turns out to be half of what I carried due to town redistricting and program placement of my most challenging kids.....finally they can get what they need! Nonetheless, I still don't have the stamina to get there daily....so too bad...Now I need to figure out what to do with the energy I do have. :). Maybe find some good sales? Have not been to a dept store since May.

Debbie, hope your visit is going as well as it can for you and all of your family.

    Nite all......

Ha Ha bus stories! My daughter kept saying " I want to ride the bus! I get to ride the bus!" before nursery school.  After I week she said "I hate the bus" It's noisy and everybody screams"

At the beginning of the school year a bunch of us Mom's used to stand at the top of the hill to watch the kids until the bus came, come rain, sleet, whatever About November 9 Moms had dwindled to just me.  I asked one of the Moms why no one watched their kids anymore.  She said, "because you're there"

Mussles pita bread and a peach for dinner.

    Hi everyone!

Laurie  So cute..he has a little devilish smile. Those boys will be best friends for life.  I love when I see my two kids get together and hug each other.  My daughter likes to rub the top of my sons head (he is 6'5" and she is 5'4") and says "you need a haircut" like she is his mom.

My sis had her surgery yesterday (lumpectomy) and did fine, came home in the evening. they took some lymph nodes for biopsy, it will take about a week for the results. She will do radiation, no chemo. She was so lucky to find it early

Dinner tonight needs to be leftovers to clean out the refridg.

This my day to cook lunch at the Senior Center.  Making chili and a potato bar with a salad and rhubarb crisp (from a corner of our own Center herb garden). For the potatoes i put out butter, sour cream, ranch dressing, grated cheese, chives, bacon bits, sunflower seeds, and broccoli.  Time to get ready to go cook.

    Oh, Channa, that sounds great!.

Csrnerry. I am glad your sister is doing ok.

Bedo, I hated that! Because I take responsibility for my kids, doesn't mean you can dump yours on me. Sometimes we went to competitions, and the other moms were in the bar having fun, I was watching my kids in the pool. They left their kids there. I always felt so guilty leaving the other kids alone when I left, I would go to the bar, and tell them their kids were alone in the pool. we are talking kids from 10 down to six. I guess things haven't changed. You know no one offered to alternate the watch crew. Maybe you could set up a schedule for mom duty. Good luck.

Our current rv home location is Eden, SD, pop. 97.  We can walk less than half a block to Club Eden/Cafe Eden.  Last night was wings night.  There's a choice of about 10 dipping sauces.  I chose Hot and Spicy (a little redundant!) and Lemon Pepper.  The wings were very good.  I also had a salad, which was mostly iceburg lettuce, with blue cheese dressing.  My beverage was Absolut vodka on the rocks with olives and a lemon twist.  It was served in what could have been a water glass and cost $3.75!  At that price I had two.  After all, it was a short walk home.

Tonight we're going to a town called Webster with our friends who live here.  We'll have dinner at a steak restaurant.

Adorable picture of your son #1, Laurie.

Boy, the home-made pesto sounds good.

Shopped at Good Will in Aberdeen yesterday and bought two used cookbooks that I'm reading.  One is Good Housekeeping Best One-Dish Meals.  Most of the soups and stews sound really good.  I'll be trying some of them when we get home in Oct.

    Hi to all.

Moonflwr - that is so great that your daughter is coming for a visit!  Be sure to enjoy every minute!

I'm going to be alone most of next week.  DH is going to Mobile, AL for work Mon-Wed, then flying to Kansas City to play golf with some buddies and he won't come home until the following Monday.  I was going to accompany him to KC, but then I remembered that our DS bought us tickets to see the Charlie Daniels Band on 9/14.  DH can get out of going - I'll take my younger DD, but I must not back out of this...and I will thoroughly enjoy the concert.  I can go to KC another time.

I'm making penne pasta with red bell peppers, onions, a little hot sausage and fresh basil.  DH is ecstatic!   I hope I don't regret the hot sausage decision!

Local Ladies - we need to plan our Pickety Place excursion.  How does Saturday, 9/29 work for everyone?

I haven't posted much this summer but have enjoyed reading about everyone's food but am very sorry to hear about those who have recently lost loved ones. My thoughts are with you and your families.

Michelle - I had forgotten that you lived in KC. My husband and I were there 2 wks ago for a wedding. We stayed at the Intercontinental at Country Club Plaza. I wish I had had more time (and money) to shop at CCP ~~all the wonderful stores~~ Gucci, Rolex, Tiffany, Sur la Table! The reception was at the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art. We made sure we got to KC early enough to eat bbq. We ate at Jack Stack BBQ and had our first burnt ends. We brought home their mail order catalog and I think we'll be having burnt ends again soon.

Channa I had my first corn of the summer today and ate two ears for supper. I couldn't take the chance to eat it when I was having so much of the big D! But that is under control, so even if I have a bit of an issue from the corn, too bad, its worth it. Can't let summer go without even tasting fresh corn! And Thx, everyone, I plan on enjoying the visit with Mary. I wish you could see my smile!

So happy for you Moonflwr! Have a great visit!

Had a very strange transfer with the new hire this morning, so purged the experience in the fabric store afterwards.

Then later DH and I decided to call DS2 to see if he'd be up for a spontaneous early dinner, which he was, so we headed into Southie and met him at Worthies, a neighborhood restaurant and had a lovely casual meal....calamari for a table app, then I had chicken quesadilla with a lovely arugula salad with nuts, crasins and goat cheese.

We warned him that there may be other dinners like this on the horizon given our sudden total availability! He sweetly declared it was fine with him. Way to go local son!

Michelle. I think the 29th should be fine...

    Wondering about you Debbie....

Ok, so far we have Deb, Bedo and Lacey (Sally and Pat) for 9/29.  I expect we'll hear from Joycek, Laurie and Hauntie (Lynda).  If I have forgotten anyone, please speak up.  I haven't finished my first cup of coffee just yet, so my fingers have engaged before my brain...lol.  I am going to mention this to a couple of others on other threads who live in the area.  The more, the merrier!

Lacey - I have four kids ranging in age from 32 to almost 43.  Not one of them ever turned down a free meal with us, ever, even during those crazy teen-ager years!  Enjoy the "one on one" time with DS2!

I have a Dana Farber appointment this afternoon - day 8 check - then I'm heading to DD1 and going out with the 30-something gals for chinese food and karaoke night.  It will be a fun, late night as we close the place down at 1 a.m.  I'll spend the night so I don't have to worry about driving home so late.  It will be fun and I'll be tired...lol!

Michelle, I know what you mean about the "free food" connection to adult kids. However, this particular son gets points for always trying to fund the dinner event...we sometimes even let him! So, putting up with us, paying up, and being up for more......priceless! ;)
