So...whats for dinner?

Lacey, just think about what's already behind you. That helps.
So do we calculate a ocancerversary from the date of finding the Dcis, or the Surgery date finding of IDC? Just wondering. -
Moon, not sure what everyone else does but I am counting it from when I learned n my dx and the whole process began....a year packed with interventions, support, loss, and hope for the future. Think I'll sleep on that if the tamoxifen lets me...:/
-
Hopefully I'm not suffering from foot in mouth disease..... I'd feel good to have a great many more cancerversaries....
I'm jealous. We were hoping to go to San Francisco this summer..but we got side tracked.... Nest year...
Eric

I'm coming up on one year since I had the mammo that detected the first problem, but I didn't get my final dx until November, so I guess that would qualify as my cancerversary. I have to have another mammo when I get back from my visit to Florida. I might try to get another thermography done while in Florida this next week, but it's really short notice.
I'm not doing much cooking these days...had a salad with sliced chicken last night...not very creative.
-
last night was marina party catered by a friend that has a portable smoker "his nickname is smokey" Great smoked brisket and barbecued chicken with all the fixings. YUM we had a contest at each dock on who came up with the best drink, I think our dock won...some blue carribean drink with rum and a coconut flavor.....I did not assist in making it...the men got their hands in it so who knows what was in it, but it was yummy. Lots of great music and lots of dancing the night away.
Kay sounds like a great time and great eats...would love to travel there some day.
Yay to cancerverseries!!
Eric I totally get it about your daughter, mine is like a ball of sunshine that lights up the room when she walks in.
Next weekend both kids coming for a visit...soooo excited.
-
Isabelle, I am quite "attached" to my ipad...even tho it seems to have a mind of its own sometimes. I use it constantly.....but do need to get the "word" apps so I can use it to do writing then email it to my computer. Oh, and I very much dislike that there is no delete forward key which I rely on on my PC...an Apple fault! Michelle could probably give a more intelligent assessment of notepads since computers are her thing.
-
Lacey,
Take a look at IAwriter instead of the far more expensive "word" app. I have been able to convert all the text documents into formats that my clients are able to read.

Kay, I enjoyed reading your post about your trip to SF. Some years ago DH and I visited SF on our way to the Hawaiian islands. We were walking around Chinatown and entered a restaurant that was quite nice and popular. With Chinese speaking people. None of the wait staff spoke English but were gracious and tried hard to help us make some food selections. I remember that the food was very good and, of course, completely unlike the food one encounters in Americanized "Chinese" restaurants. I know we ate some dumplings but that's about all I recollect. I'd love to go back there someday with a guide or interpreter!
It's hard to believe that next week is our last week here in MN. The day after Labor Day we'll drive a couple of hours to SD and visit some friends. Then embark on a series of family visits that will take us to Milwaukee, Chicago, and Indiana. Then home early in Oct.
Today we're checking in on the weather channel regularly with some anxiety about the path of Hurricane Isaac.
This afternoon I plan to cook southern style stewed chicken. I have a whole chicken I'll cut into pieces, season and dredge in flour, and brown in an electric skillet outdoors. Then I'll add chicken broth and simmer until the chicken is tender and a gravy has formed. I'm thinking I'll also add some carrots and maybe some frozen peas along with the liquid. When my mother cooked this dish for our family(minus the carrots and peas), she would cook up a big pot of white rice to spoon the gravy over. Mushrooms would be good, but I don't have any.
It's a gorgeous day here. Hope everyone is enjoying his or her Sunday.
-
Carole... that chicken sounds delicious - I am going to try that next time I have a whole chicken. Have a wonderful trip back home... sounds like you will. gorgeous day here too.
-
Carole- Is the hurricane going to hit where you live in LA? I know you are not there now but was wondering how your it was your way. Also I know Specialk lives in FL- Hope you are safe SpecialK! and anyone else who lives there
-
My DH just arrived home from his 4 day boat trip. I have barbecued ribs in the slow cooker, potatoes to roast, Caeser salad ready to dress & a lemon meringue pie cooling on the rack.
Carberry, that marina party..what fun...I envy you the dancing. We love to dance & have only been out dancing once since this big C hit us.
Lovetocook, the SF trip must have been a blast...have never been there.
Carole...I could send you some mushrooms.
We have a condo on the Kalhoosahatchie River in Fort Myers...the last big storm destroyed a good part of the seawall. Our condo corp. is still pricing repairs to it and now Isaac.
-
I had a super-easy dinner. A small can of large, white beans, drained and rinsed. A can of drained artichoke hearts, some cut up chicken meat, a little garlic, onion, parsley, oil and vinegar.
-
We are having grilled chicken and asparagus w/ onions and mushrooms.

Sounds like everyone has been having some fun and eating lots of great food! I am trying to get caught up after a few days off. What a crazy bust weekend! We went to the Old Home Day parade Saturday morning and after that headed to the lake to stay at our friends cottage. It ended up being a huge get together with lots of great food. I made a pan of lasagna and a salad fo cucumber, tomato, red onion and feta salad with some oil and vinegar for dressing. We all had an amazing time and headed back today to go to our neighbors sons birthday party. We were there close to 5 hours! My youngest fell asleep while eating and was carried to bed
We are about to put the other boy to bed and have left overs. I made a pulled chicken the other night on the stove top which came out awesome and I am getting ready to wat whats left of it!
I don't remember who asked about my pulled pork? But all I do is put the pork loin in the crock pot with a can of diced tomatoes, a can of water, salt, pepper and garlic and let it cook on low for the day. I shred it and add some of my favorite BBQ sauce to it. Pu tit on rolls and toast in the oven and add pickles!
So- I am exhausted from all the fun we had, I will write more tomorrow, I am so glad I don't have to go to work!!
Much love to all of you. A lot of good stuff has been going on, drains coming out, NED, DH's doting on us, dinners with friends, yummy cocktails, new adventures- good stuff!
-
Debbie- due to my spacing error- this tits for you
I could correct it, but what would be the fun of that?
-
Bwahahhaha, Laurie!!!
Between that typo and the 'crazy bust weekend' one, I'm wondering just what you have been up to..... lol!!!
Rest up and enjoy not having to report to work tomorrow!! -
LOL! Laurie - I chuckled at the typo but the follow-on comments are even better!
Sooo, I just got home from the weekend in Maine with my son and his SO. She did the "Olympic Marathon" version of the triathlon today and unfortunately, was so dehydrated that she had to go by ambulance to the ER for treatment. I was at the finish line (volunteering-handing out medals to the finishers) when she came through and it was obvious she was in a little trouble. I handed her over to my son and they tried sitting in the shade and she drank a bottle of water. But she had nausea, pain in her left flank and some other symptoms that made it look like she might be suffering an acute renal problem. So I got my first ever ambulance ride. Fortunately, after three bags of saline and a few blood tests, she started to feel better and they didn't find anything seriously wrong. They released her about 4:15 and we headed home. I'm exhausted...four hours of volunteer and four hours of medical stuff. Phew!
Kay - your SF trip sounds fantastic! I've been a couple times and had some really good food, but you seem to have discovered some real gems!
I have to go in tomorrow morning for blood work to be sure all the CAT scan contrast has cleared out of my system and my kidneys are good. Not anticipating any problems at all. Looking forward to starting the clinical trial on Friday, and looking forward to a couple days in Atlantic City.
-
Laurie - Thanks for the pulled pork recipe. I was the one that asked. I ended up putting the pork loin in the crockpot with rub of sage, garlic, pepper, salt. Cooked on high 1 hour then turned down to low. DH said as he took it out of pot "Isn't this pulled pork?" which it sure could have been. No buns though. Made a sauce of balsamic vinegar, brown sugar, soy sauce, water, cornstarch and rice as a side. The sauce is really good, not too vinegary. Will have some grapes or plums for dessert.
Love the tit on rolls and bust weekend. Feel like I know each of you personally. Everyone have a good week. Here's to good test results and minor if any SE's.
I forgot to say thanks too to Chabba. Sounds like I did a combo of both recipes.
-
Luvmygoats, Pork recipies sound so good. Michelle, what a weekend for you. I am glad your sons SO is ok, dehydration is scary. Seaside and Laurie, I love the typos, and auto corrects, always makes it fun to try to guess what was really meant!
My husband had to go in to work yesterday, hour and a half commute each way. I told him he didn't have to come back but he wanted to. So ER went to Chinese, loved my chicken curry. Today we ate leftovers for lunch, but before he went back to his apartment, he brought me Culvers chicken tenders. Also good I feel like he took good care of me. We also went shopping, ad I couldn't drive last week, so I can cook this week. I ended the day today with my treat of chocolate mug cake. Much love. -
OMG- typos galore!! I said I was tired right?
Michelle- So scary with your sons SO! I'm glad she is ok!
luvmygoats- Glad it turned out good! Sometimes we find our own way to great meals;)
Our left over pulled chicken was yummy for dinner. It's time for me to head to bed with my book. I am looking forward to a quiet day tomorrow.
-
luvrving - glad your son's SO is OK - my DH used to run marathons and I remember being at the Marine Corps Marathon at the finish line. A runner collapsed - his name was on his shirt in big letters - so we were all yelling "come on Bryan" but it was clear he was not going to cross the finish line which was about 10 feet away. A group of Army guys ran past him, crossed the finish line, ran back and picked him up and carried him across so his chip would register that he was a finisher and then put him in the ambulance. It was awesome, we were all cheering! It would be sad to run 26 miles and not make the last 10 feet! He needed some fluids and he was OK.
We are waiting for the hurricane - DH has delayed work tomorrow at MacDill AFB, DD has no school at Univ of S. FL. I have a dermatologist appt. in the afternoon for a check of skin cancer on my chest. Have not grocery shopped since if we lose power we will be firing up the gas grill and cooking everything in the freezer, lol!
-
SpecialK,
Loved your story..... What a show of doesn't matter what branch of the military you are in.... when push comes to shove, we are one!!
My parents have a winter place in FL just south of Tampa.... Sending up prayers that Isaac will pass by and leave us all unscathed......
Thinking and praying for all of our Southern Sisters!! -
Praying for all of you in the path of Isaac. Much love to all.
-
Laurie- LOL! I caught it while reading and was laughing. I just love the typos!!
Michelle- Oh my gosh what a scary thing to happen! I am glad she is ok now though, probably quick thinking on your part to get her to shade and some water. Hope you get a good nites sleep. And I had no idea that the blood test would show weather or not the contrast was still in your system.
Prayers from me as well hope everyone is safe from Issac!
-
Laurie Funny typos...they fit in here just perfect.
To all of the southerners...take cover and be safe. I have a brother in Pensacola we are keeping close contact with.
Stayed on the lake too long yesterday and didnt get in till 8:30 last night, so it was a quick tossed salad. Feeling like something grilled tonight, maybe some pork chops...got some peaches to grill with them. Also have some eggplant that was given to me that I must use up. Was reading about eggplant cut up in sspaghetti sauce...anyone here ever use it that way? I only know how to make eggplant parm, otherwise dont know what to do with it.
-
Thanks for the good chuckle from your relevant typos, Laurie! Hope you're enjoying your first Monday to be able to relax a bit!
Michelle, wow, what a scare with DS's SO. I'm glad she was okay...I suspect that on a day as sunny/hot as yesterday, that ER must get a lot of business.
Wishing safety to those near the hurricane path. -
carberry - maybe make vegetable lasagna by thinly slicing the eggplant, grilling it so it loses some of its moisture, then use the slices in place of noodles? You could even make it non-veg by adding some meat to your sauce.
So far so good with the storm - we have had wind and rain but nothing major (yet) has happened. I slept better last night than I thought I would - I have a hard time falling asleep if it is super windy. I have an appt. today with the dermatologist to check my skin cancer area that was treated - hope that goes well, and that I don't blow away. The good news - they have a covered parking garage! It is funny, a year ago I wouldn't have had to worry about my hair blowing around, now I do!
-
SpecialK - when I make vegetable lasagna or moussaka using eggplant, I slice it thin, salt it, place it is the colander and then place a bowl on top of it with weight in the bowl to press out the liquid. Before using it, I rinse it to get off the salt, pat it dry and then use it like really wide noodles.
Take care with the storm. I've been thinking of all the people in the path of the storm.
-
Specialk....I make lasagna with eggplant too, also zuchinni, especially this time of year when we have so many.
LuvRVing: same thing happened to my son in a race several years ago, he started acting silly & incoherent...they thought he was on drugs because of his actions.....turned out he was dehydrated & was taken to hospital. Amazing what the lack of water can do to our bodies.
Laurie: loved the tit typo.....lol

Whew, busy day so far! First, went to the local Dana Farber and had the required lab test. I got a call later - my kidneys are fine after having the contrast. I think they are actually testing the creatinine level. Anyways, mine was perfect as I suspected it would be. Then took DH to the airport so he could pick up a rental car for the rest of the week. He had to drive to Worcester today and then we'll be driving to Atlantic City tomorow morning. He called a while ago and he's already on his way home. Then I went to my mom's, she's still a mess, and I took her to visit her sisters. We had a good visit then went for ice cream before I brought her back to the place she "hates." The doctor is doubling her anti-depressant med. Good thing because this is wearing me out and I feel guilty every time I leave her, even though I know in my heart she's in exactly the right place.
Now I need to get a few loads of laundry done so I have some of my favorites to wear in AC.
I hope everyone is having a great day!
Michelle
