Omg Lacey- Even if he was a fireman or volunteer fireman does not give him rights to drive crazy like that and almost run you over, I would get his license plate number and report him that is reckless driving! I am glad you all made it safely out of the way! Sounds like you had a great day with family and dogs! :-)))

    Hi Moon,

I must say that I have been sooooooooo fortunate with the support system that popped up for me. My friends and most of my family, obviously. But my angel has been employed at the same place for 18 years. They have 60 employees. Something like 25-30 of them signed up to cook a meal for us a few times each to cover the time I would be in rads and just recovering over several months (I swear my freezer couldn't take it!!!). Other employees signed up to do other things. 1 woman and her daughter live 5 minutes away, so they come here every day on the way home from work and walk the dog for me rather than cook (I'm still a little too weak to walk an energetic border collie very long!). Another guy's wife is helping me wade through medical bills and junk. These are all angels on earth and I do not know what I would do without them.

I had a hard time learning to ask for things, but once I loearned how, support came in spades. People realy want to help (most, anyway) thye just don't know what to do! Again, sorry for typos!

Wow. A busy day on here. Again..if I missed anyone, my apologies.

    Welcome Eff.

Michele, I'm glad the blisters are getting better. No fun at all.

The carrot glazes sound good. I'm going to try them, because just plain cooked carrots are kind of boring. Between Sharon's dental work and Chris' braces, raw carrots are not on the menu.

I hate crazy drivers. I drive a school bus sometimes and crazy drivers are especially unappreciated then.

Chris (DD) cooked spaghetti tonight. Sharon ate too..along with the Vicodin. Her mouth is still hurting. She says it's more the jaw rather than where they pulled the tooth. She said the dentist really had to work to pull the tooth, so he probably stretched things a bit.

Tuesday she's getting "measured and marked" for radiation....

The biopsies, the diagnosis, BMX, the port, chemo and now a tooth extraction and a root canal...followed by rads.... octathalon (a triathalon doesn't quite ccompare).

Eric - when Sharon is getting measured, advise her to be lying in as comfortable a position as possible (considering you're lying there with your arms over your head).  She'll have to repeat that position every single treatment, so she needs to let them know if it's really uncomfortable before they start the measuring and marking.  Once you're measured and marked, they don't want to change it much.

Thanks, Eff - I need to buy some anchovy paste.  I like the flavor but I'm not fond of seeing the little fishies in my caesar salad!

LOL - GMA is showing what athletes drink during the Olympics - beet juice!  After they tasted it, they grimaced and said it tastes like sweet dirt.  My sentiments, exactly!

Deb:  So very sorry about your friend.  Prayers to her family and friends.

Eff:  Welcome to the thread...you will have lots of support and fun here!

I just got the high sign from my BF that it's time for lunch...so why doesn't he make it for a change??

The Olympics are great...I felt so sorry for the young woman that got dropped after just one mistake.  What pressure these young women are under...that can't be healthy for them.  Can you believe how high that one could vault herself...awesome!

Too bad the athletes can't just add some spinach, fruits, nuts and yogurt to offset that earthy taste. Yummmm! :)

I felt so bad for Jordyn Weiber too! She only made some tiny mistakes. They are saying she was underscored, maybe because she is the World Champion.

Our salmon was great last night. And we have leftovers of several night's meals. Cleaning out the fridge tonight!

I really want some fresh okra. Is it in season?

These kids are under incredible pressure, and many of them are so young.  That gymnastics rule about only two members of a team being able to compete for the all-around medal is just wrong.  I suspect that will get changed before the next olympics.

We're having grilled pork chops, corn on the cob, cole slaw and waldorf salad for dinner tonight.  I had just come back from the grocery store and farmstand with multiple bags of stuff, I asked DH what he wanted for lunch and he anwered with "whatever you want to make."  LOL  I told him that was the wrong answer and if he wanted me to make it, he needed to be more specific.  So he asked for a salad with ham and cheese (now that was the right answer!).  I had chicken salad with veggies and fruit.

Funny on the beet juice! I don't think I ever had just straight beet juice after hearing it taste like sweet dirt doubt i will LOL! I did love my raw beet salad though it was delicious and will make it again.

Michelle- How are you holding up after that long bike ride, did some of those muscles you hadn't used in a long time hurt? When I get on a  stationary bike I hurt in places I didnt know i had.

DH took a dear friend out to golf this morning, he has dementia and is 87 years old his wife who is 25 yrs younger had a reunion to go to today so DH offered to keep an eye on him and take him golfing, they have been gone for hours so I am sure George (the friend) is having a great day! So sweet of my hubby to offer. I think i will call though to make sure DH is not wearing George out. ha!

Dinner tonight will be mushrooms and broccoli in a peanut sauce over an english muffin had this years ago and thought i would try to duplicate it. It sounds weird but it was so yummy!

Eric- (((hugs)) to Sharon! She has been through quite an ordeal lately!

I have trouble watching the vault on the olympics I have to close my eyes gets my stomach all in knots, don't know how they do it!

Debbie - that is very sweet of your DH to take his dear friend out golfing!  It is a test of patience, so your DH will have earned lots of kudos for this act of kindness!  We are scheduled to go bike riding after DH finishes work tonight, hopefully soon.  Then we'll have dinner afterwards.  I found the riding pretty easy and my only "sore" spots are where the bike seat hits me on the inside of my thighs.  I ordered a new seat which should be here on Wednesday and I'm guessing it will solve that problem.  We're going to ride halfway around the lake then come back the same way.  It is possible to ride all the way - it's about a 6 mile ride, but part of the road has more traffic than I want to worry about.

My keyboard is misbehavin' and bolding things, changing the font, more or less at will.  Ick.

So glad for all the lucky women whose husbands cook for them!  Yay for them! And for Mr. Debbie who is so kind! Mr. W. Foods makes me many yummy things, but he want's money.  Mr. Blender is my idol, and Mr. Mac, the Knife chops up good things. I am having my salmon chowder again, because I don't have to chop, or anything, except 1 TBs of onion. 1) Cook 1 pound Salmon, both sides in pan,( I talked the seafood manager into removing the skin because " I just can't do it!! ") 2)Dump 1- 15 oz can corn and 1 -15 oz can creamed corn and one can skimmed evaporated milk 2 cups or whatever into a pot with the onion till salmon is ready, then put that in in flakes or pieces or whatever and add salt and pepper if you want

PS I love Borscht cold beet soup, developed at taste for it when I lived with my BF from 18-21 ( He was Jewish)

I tied up a bag of zuccini and cherry tomatoes and hung it on my neighbors door rang the door and ran away!

Soon I will have about 100 cherry tomatoes, no kidding!

Oh,  Mr. computer, for the Love of God.....

PS what is EVO??? Ive been wondering forever and what staion are the olympics on in the East Coast if you have verison? Thanks!

    Hello!

Dinner tonight for us is what LuvRV is having because, we are going to her house.

Nah, since angel-man went kayaking, he won't be cookiung when he gets in so we are heating up a meatloaf someone at his work made for us. Spinach salad, too.

Dang I wish I could exercise like some of you are doing! I can barely walk 1/2 a block still even though this is better than a month ago! Mets suck!

Laurie - I hope you get some good R&R!

We ended up with corn on the cob instead of waldorf salad and I have to say, buying it today at the farm stand was a good decision.  And it's a good thing I bought just two ears, because it was exceptionally good and I could easily have overeaten!

We went for another 6 mile bike ride before dinner.  This one kinda kicked my butt!  This part of the trail had a few more little hills and they seemed to be mostly on the way back.  I think we'll stick to the trail we did on Sunday until I build a little stamina.  My sense of balance isn't very good, either.  Need to work on that.

And for all you salad lovers, including the beet addicts, here's a link to 23 salads - some of them look really yummy!

Michelle- Ohh I know exactly where you mean on the seat, I had a bike that was very uncomfortable that hurt my thighs! wow you really amaze me with all your energy, hope you have fun on your ride today. Dh said he had a good time with George, but after 9 holes could see he was getting tired so took him inside for lunch, George wanted a Heffewizen beer and then ready for a nap so after DH dropped him off, he came home and napped himself. George told him he hadn't golfed that good in years i said it probably was because he was relaxed and had no pressure, George was golfing with other guys his own age for years and said he was getting embarrassed to golf with them now. So I was thrilled to see how much fun he had today!

Laurie- You might even run into michelle today! ha! Have fun!

Bedo- LOL! You never fail to make me smile or laugh! soup sounds good. Hey did i tell you the bad news about salmon?? Just kiddinggggggg! Made me think about the other fish you bought and we all told you not to eat it. lol!

Eff- Can I hitch a ride with you too michelle's house? lol!

Eff - LOL!  I totally missed your funny post, it must have hit the same time as mine.  Yes, mets do suck.  But for some strange (and very lucky) reason, I feel perfecty fine.  So I'm going to enjoy it while it lasts.  Last summer I remember trying to walk for 1/2 mile or just going up the stairs in our house and feeling my heart pounding!

And you're all welcome to come on down!  I've got enough room outside for all of us.  Inside, well, we'd just have to get cozy!

Did anyone see the corn salad that Michael Symon made on The Chew today?  It looked spectacular and I'm going to have to whip this one up here real soon!

Oh...Bedo - this recipe calls for 100 cherry tomatoes so...problem solved!!!

Eff, I am about where you are in strength, but I don't have mets as a reason. Low blood counts, perhaps. I am doing chemo rehab as long as the insurance holds out. I think.I.get 30 visits. It helps, my pt keeps telling me baby steps. BUT WHAT I WANT ARE GIANT STEPS. guess I have to adjust my expectations! LOL!

Deb, that must have made your DH feel good. Michelle, thanks for the link, some.of the salad sound great. I love a salad they have as an appetizer at cheesecake factory. It's a simple salad, arugula, golden raisens, almonds parmesian cheese strips, with a lemon and olive dressing. It is my favorite.

Moonflwr - we are about 30 miles from Cheesecake Factory, and I always hated that their portions were so big.  The last time I was there, they had "small plates" which was a refreshing change.  The salad sounds yummy!

Bedo:  Try poaching the salmon (or any other fish) in the microwave.  The skin just slides off.

Put the fish (salmon or any other) in a microwave dish - skin side down.  Place the thicker portions to the outside.  Add a splash of water, wine, etc.  I love to sprinkle mine with dill.  Cover with wax paper.  Microwave on high power for 3-4 minutes per lb.

If I have a cut with a thicker middle, I do 2 minutes then cut in 1/2 and switch the portions.  To avoid overcooking, remove fish when the outer edges are opaque but the center is still slightly translucent.  A few minutes of standing time will finish the cooking.

Michelle....Thanks.  I'll tell Sharon about getting comfortable.  She's getting measured and marked this Thursday, so that's perfect timing.

When I ride a bicycle..after awhile, I'll look down to see if the seat is still there.Surprised  So I'm in complete agreement about bicycles and long rides.

Sharon is feeling much better now.  She says it's hurting at the 1 Ibuprofin level now..which is (in her words) nothing...  She was at school today making maps of bus routes and paying bus maintenance bills.

She wanted to cook tonight.  She's got some chicken cooking the dutch oven (the one in my avatar) and is going to put the chicken and some cheese in a tossed salad.

You're probably asleep Laurie.....if not, relax....

I guess Jesse (the cat) is hungry...he keeps walking across the keyboard...so I'm spending more time fixing the "mistakes" than typing....  To everyone else...good evening!

Hello everyone. Was so tired yesterday from the weekend  I got outta bed at 8am and tried doing some schoolwork on the computer and could not hold my head up...layed down on the couch and went back to sleep till 11am.  I just dont have the stamina post ca like I used to. moonflwr...good idea on the therapy...my arms have lost a lot of strength, I try to lift weights at home but have slacked off this summer.

Last night we helped our friends take their boat through the canal and navigate the locks, a 2hr trip, but tons of fun with the four of us.  He is going blind and cant see to navigate the narrow canal, but they wanted to go over to the other lake for a couple of days..his wife is pretty good with the boat also. Tied up to a wall in a town, met friends at a local pub and had buffalo chicken salad, homemade pizza, and shrimp.  for some reason this pub owner loves to see us come in and cooks for us at no charge....we tip him heavily.

Tonight meeting the same friends over on the other lake for an all-you-can-eat crab leg dinner.  We were supposed to do this boat trip with our boat as well, but husband just cant ever take a day off from work, so we will drive over. Bummer

I have not cooked in FOREVER!

But if you've got a nice piece of sockeye salmon, you need to learn to love the skin! It's the most nutrient rich part.

We didn't like it either, but I went looking for a good way to cook it. Gordon Ramsey's You Tube video is the one I found. I make it a couple of times a month and it is now a favorite. I think DH likes it as well as steak.

I have been tired too, sleeping 9 hours sometimes, with no excuses. No chemo, no rads. I'm thinking PTSD. I really, really need to start exercising again.

Carrie, I want your life on the lakes. Sounds heavenly.

I had to give up Lymphedema rehab. I don't technically have it (at least not yet) and it was costing me a $75 copay each time! That's the same copay as surgery.

haven't posted for awhile - been too busy working.  But while I was out I made a black rice and mango salad that was delicious.  I'll try to remember what all was in it...

1 c black rice cooked in 2 3/4 c water for 35 minutes.  Remove from heat

    1 orange  (zest and juice)

1 mango - just ripe, still firm.  If using champagne mangos, use 2

1 c walla walla sweets or vidalia onion chopped fine

1 jalapeno pepper seed removed minced

    3 scallions finely sliced

    1/8 to 1/4 c lime juice

    2 T olive oil

    1 c cilantro leaves chopped

Combine the orange zest, orange juice, lime juice and olive oil.  pour over rice while the rice is still warm, mix and allow to cool, then place in fridge to chill. Once the rice is chilled, cut the mango in 1/2 in cubes, and add to rice along with the rest of the ingredients (onion, jalapeno, scallions and cilantro).  Stir and serve.
