So...whats for dinner?

Specialk- Maybe you could gently tell your SIL how much you loved those things, she may say would you like them? I guess its worth a try. I know that my dad has a lot of things in his house that my mom bought like a sevee chair and couch a carousel horse she had painted, if my dad passes before his now wife i would tell her i want them. Dont know if its right but think me or my sibs would ask for them. Not sure she would though. If it were me i would ask. Sorry about your loses. (((hugs)))
Your onion dish sounds good, thanks for the recipe.
I have been on a prime rib kick lately, last night i had prime rib and shrimp. Finished the prime rib today for lunch on some bread. Yummy!

Thanks for the book recommendations. One of the BCO threads I follow is the Book Lovers Club - along with several other ladies on this dinner thread. The link is below if you want to check it out.

Fresh tomatoes again tonight, and last night & tomorrow night. I drove to a farmers stand again today - 20 miles one way. Oh well, there's probably only 10 days left in the season since it gets so hot in Houston.
-
debbie - I mentioned the items once and I was dismissed somewhat casually, and she lives in California. Since I am in Florida she would have to send them - and she just won't. It is not that she has any issues with me - it seems to be an inertia thing.
-
SpecialK: When it comes to dividing up items in an estate, it becomes a free for all if they are not designated to go to a certain person. I have been through this three times...my grandparents, my mom, and then my aunt. I never ceases to amaze me how selfish people can be about possessions. My mom left my cousin some candlesticks when she passed. When my cousin downsized she no longer had any use for the candlesticks, so you would think she would have offered them to me, but no, they went to her brother and are now in his house. When my aunt died, a set of dishes my mother gave her was up for grabs so I said I would love to have them if nobody else wanted them. Well, I ended up getting one place setting...the rest went to the same brother that got the candlesticks. So much for family sharing. I'm so over it!
-
kaara - it is frustrating, I know. I go back and forth between asking her for the items - like my Dad's wedding ring, and just letting the whole thing go. I was OK with my brother having those things because he had a connection to them, but she was not close to my parents, particularly my Dad.
-
SpecialK... maybe you could send some money to cover expenses.. she'd have to return it or send you the stuff. in the long run.. geez. why wouldn't she just send the things to you?
I hope things work out. i have this mega difficult sister who hated my parents so much. she is really hard to deal with.
-
apple - I wish it was that easy, I would certainly pay to send the things, she just can't be bothered. Or, she says she will get around to it, then never does. I first broached this subject several years ago. It would really mean flying there and going through the stuff myself. I am not opposed to that - I would just go see some friends at the same time. Family is sometimes difficult, right?
-
Boy, was she surprised, here she is hugging me.

-
So beautiful Deb, saw some on FB earlier today she looks so surprised how sweet. Thanks for sharing,
-
She is radiant!
-
So beautiful Deb,
And Debbie I never knew that about you! Thank you for sharing
My friend and I just got back from drinking way too many beers, and discussing "girl things" so it just goes to show, that even though she is healthy, "It's always something" as Gilda Radner said.
-
Debbie - you've been to cancer hell and back! I seem to remember you mentioning something about needing oxygen...quite a long time ago. No wonder you also grab life's every moment!
-
Great photos of a wonderful surprise! Deb, your DD looks so much like you in these.
Adorable! -
Michelle- I always feel bad to even say anything because you have gone through so much and continue to do so and many other women on here, so i don't like to say much. I hope this is the right thing to say but i admire your strength and courage.
Bedo- I still laugh when i think about your air conditioning moment lol!
Carrie- How are you feeling, better i hope.
-
nice nice pictures Deb.
We could probably start a whole forum about inlaws. who are these people we are 'married' to and must converse with and put up and change sheets for. (MY sis in law - I'll call her JEAN) brings her grandkids and kids and lets them run free. They were getting ready to leave and I said " OK time for suitcase inspection" they looked at each other and we adults watched as they opened their suitcases. they insisted i had given them all the stuff in there.. clocks, clothes, knick knacks, pens. I had a whole suitcase full of stuff they stole left behind. All the snacks and candy i had bought for their dining pleasure.. JEAN insisted that i had set them up, (not).. i just happened to catch one of them steal money from my dresser.
A few years will go by, I'll happen to die, and they'll ask if they can spend the nite.
the adults talked about making pigs drink vodka, then slaughtering the pig and draining the blood without letting the vodka leave the meat..
seriously.

Holy crap, Apple! I hope your DH doesn't allow these insensitive, abusive "family" to spend any time in your home, ever again. I cannot even fathom such inexcusable behavior!
Debbie - I am quite sure our friend Apple here has been through more BC crap than I've yet experienced. Not that we need to make comparisons... but don't discount what you've been through. Mine has just been compacted into two years.
I am guessing we'll hear from Laurie that they went through some nasty thunderstorms yesterday. We drove into Boston for the BBQ event, and about 20 minutes before we got there, the sky opened up. And it poured buckets. So we ended up parking near Faneuil Hall, eating at McCormick & Schmicks because we could get a table in 20 minutes, and then walking over to the North End for dessert. Not exactly what we had planned, but a very pleasant night, nonetheless. The rain stopped during dinner, the air dried out and it was a beautiful evening. But the storms were still hitting the Concord area according to the radar. So I'm betting that Laurie and her family spent most of the evening inside their trailer.
-
Deb: Very nice photos! Are you on facebook too? I'll try and find you.
-
Wow, it sounds like those storms did really play havoc around Boston last night. But it sounds like your evening ended up wonderfully, Michelle.
We never had much thunder and lightening here in the lakes region, but managed to have an unplanned soaking experience on our way to a play. As we approached the theatre (with ten minutes to spare, which is fine in my book, but not enough in DH's!) there was a police detail turning traffic around because a fire hose was laying across the street, being used to put out a fire in a building up the hill. From what we could tell, there was no quick way to circumvent this fire scene and make it to the show on time (My bad!!) DH had a rare show of frustration about my not allowing for such unexpected occurrences, and I was determined that we would not miss the show (lest I have to listen to that...). So, I (the driver) quickly turned into the remote end of a restaurant parking lot (ignoring the "non-patrons will be towed" sign), and we ran several blocks to the theatre. Oops! The sky opened up and we got drenched to the skin. I kept my mouth shut but dreaded sitting in this usually chilly theatre for two hours. Good news....the play was so hilarous that I forgot I was wet until intermission. Continued to dry out during the second act.....:) The remaining question is will I ever allow more time for such unexpected events. Hmmmmm.
Off to brunch....... -
Lacey: What was the show? I've enjoyed a subscription to a theater here that performs 'off broadway' plays & we've renewed for another year.
Fresh raspberries & peaches w/my breakfast cereal. Canteloupe & three bean salad for lunch. And my same dinner again - tomatoes & more tomatoes. At the store yesterday the Klondike bars were crying inside the freezer. When I opened the door to check if they were OK, they jumped into my basket. (can't you just see Mr. Bill saying "Ohh Nooo"?) So there's my dessert.
-
Apple: What a horror story. Families are always a challenge. At age 14, my nephew, whom I hadn't seen since age 4, walked into the funeral home for my Mother's viewing and said - 'so where are the keys?" When I asked what in the world he was talking about he said "So since Grandma's dead she won't need a car, so it's mine now." Needless to say he didn't get the keys. Or the car, since my Dad was still alive and driving. I'm happy to say I eventually gifted the 20 year old car to the woman who had helped take care of my parents for 15 years.
-
apple - Good Lord! When the in-laws start stealing I will start locking them out, lol! Your suitcase story was pretty amazing - I gotta give you props for checking - you must have known you would find stuff they were taking! My relationship with my SIL is basically just distant, both geographically and emotionally - that is the problem with retrieving the family items.
We are getting hammered by rain from Hurricane Debbie here - the dog didn't even want to go out in it!
-
Thank you everyone♥
YIKES~apple. I totally agree with Michelle. Unbelievable.
