So...whats for dinner?
Comments
-
Tonight we're having dinner with some "friends" (it's hard for me to use this term with this guy since he is the one who abused his ex wife, tossed her to the curb, and now has a new trophy girlfriend) I have avoided it for as long as I can so now, after numerous invitations, we are going up to their new place, and I'll have to compliment them on the $100,000 they've spent on new furniture when I know that the ex wife is living with her children and struggling to survive:( He is really a friend and golfing buddy of my BF...I much prefer his ex wife over him, and we have remained friends. I certainly can't blame the new girlfriend, but do wonder what is in store for her down the road. I just plain don't want to get involved in this ongoing drama, but will bite the bullet and play nice for the evening, knowing that it won't happen too often. Ahhh...the things we do to keep peace.
Lacey: So sorry your DGS got hurt. I expect any day to hear that DGD has met with the same fate...she is a climber and jumper and gets up on everything. Her favorite is to jump on the bed and she has already fallen off several times. I was thinking of getting her a little trampoline for her birthday (with sides attached).
Carol: Glad your bone transplant took...I've had several of those over the years. It literally saved one tooth that I was able to keep for about 20 years before finally having it pulled. I need two implants on my bottom jaw right now, but I've put it off so long, I don't think I'll even do it. You can't see the missing teeth when I smile and I don't miss them. Hope you bp issue gets resolved soon.
Laurie: Please let us know what the doc says about your heart issues. Hope that it is nothing serious and can be handled with some medication.
Time to get back into my routine...green drink and then off to a workout!
-
maybe ruebens and gaspcho or tomato soup
-
Apple- reubens and gazpacho, double yum.
Carol- I am so happy your implant took! Good luck with the BP today and getting into the cardiologist.
Lacey- So sorry about your grandson
They are troopers though aren't they? I can't believe I haven't had to get either of my boys stitches as of yet. (knock on wood)
Kaara- I hope you find a way to enjoy yourself this evening despite spending it with someone you don't care for- with good reason. You are a bigger person than I am, I don't know if I could go and I am pretty sure my DH would never let me. I do not know how to keep my mouth shut sometimes.
So- I just got back from the Dr. The good news is that they are all PVC's and PAC's that I am having. Bad news is that it is over 5,000 a day. So she referred me to a cardiologist. She really had no idea what could be causing it all of a sudden. I don't drink caffeine at all and have had no other real changes etc. So now I have to wait for a cardiologist to call me and schedule an appointment. I don't really know how I feel about all of this. Frustrated and freaked out. I am 36 years old- why the heck is this happening?
-
Hi apple - hope you're feeling a little better! I made reubens for lunch yesterday!
Kaara - I think I'd be telling BF to have fun with his golfing buddy but to leave me out of it! I don't think I could make nice with a wife abuser who is not providing for his own children.
Lacey - ouch for your DGS! I think stitches are almost a rite of passage for active little boys. I remember both of my brothers going through that when they were little.
Laurie - thinking of you and hoping your doctor figures out what's going on. That's just too scary, even if it's supposedly benign.
I have a 3-month checkup with my MO tomorrow. It should be routine, at least that is my expectation! I'm also getting a little haircut tomorrow. Time to even things out again and shorten the back. It's way longer than the top, and the mullet is threatening me
I need to figure out what to have for dinner. I think we're going to our fave Mexican restaurant on Saturday with the family to celebrate my birthday so no taco Tuesday tonight. Last year at this time I wasn't so sure I'd see this birthday because the BC beast had returned with such a vengeance. So while this place isn't my overall favorite, it's a place the grandkids love and I'm so happy that they'll be able to share the celebration with me. We often flew back from MO for their birthdays, but it's been just DH and me for my birthday for 15 or so years. The margaritas are good and they make a terrific tableside guacamole, so it will be a great evening.
-
Michelle...hope you app't goes well for you and you can look forward to a nice birthday celebration with the grands!
Laurie: I'm sure the cardiologist will quickly get to the bottom of those PVC's. They will run every test known to man! I'll bet if you can clear up those stomach issues, the PVC's will lessen considerably....mine certainly did. In the meantime, I know how stressful it can be, but try and relax as much as possible.
-
Michelle- good luck with your appointment tomorrow! I'll send all sorts of wonderful feeling syour way. I know you'll do great! If you are ever int he Concord area you will have to try Hermano's for Mexican food. Everything is made from scratch and is SO good. Homemade chips, non soupy salsa with cilantro, homemade Margarita mix. Mmmmm- I am making myself hungry! I know you will have the best time celebrating your birthday Saturday
Thanks everyone for the positive words on the heart thing. I am trying to stay positive and not let it get the best of me. Tonight will be leftovers- I hate leftovers. I wish I was at Apples house having Reubens and gazpacho.
-
Kaara- Aww, sorry about your GS, poor thing!
Laurie- ((((hugs))))
Apple- Yum on the ruebens.
Michelle- Good luck with your appt. tomorrow! See, not to long ago you were just growing in hair and now you are having to cut it!
Hope you have a great birthday dinner on saturday!
Still cant get rid of this nasty cough and congestion it has been going on for a couple of weeks now and feeling like its starting to turn into pnemonia, hard to breathe just walking. Been taking antibiotics and steroids and its not really helping. Arggh!
-
Oh how scary Laurie. I am sure the cardiologist will get to the bottom of it. Sending you virtual hugs.
Lacey, I am very sorry about your grandson. Ouch indeed! I never had to get stitches for any of my three kids, but there was one broken arm the first day he tried his new snowboard.
Carole, I agree you are brave. I have had lots of dental work, but no implants as of yet. You too Kaara, I flinch every time I think of anyone touching my eyes.
We had takeout Chinese at the request of my DD and DS tonight. DH is in Atlanta for the rest of the week. I get so mad because DD only eats about 10% of her dish and then never wants to eat the leftovers. And I don't like orange chicken. Maybe DS will eat it some time. I just hate to see food wasted. -
debbie: Better get that congestion checked out by the doctor..it does sound like a bad case of bronchitis or pneumonia...not worth taking a chance, particularly if the meds aren't working.
Kay: My DD is the same way...she will order the most expensive thing on the menu (when I'm paying) then eat one or two bites and announce that she will take the rest home for the dogs. We're talking surf and turf here! The last time she did that I said to heck with the dogs...give it to me....I'll eat it for lunch tomorrow myself! Dogs aren't supposed to have table food anyway...isn't good for them. I don't think she was very happy but she handed it over.
-
Debbie - time to call the doc and get that checked out. Pneumonia or bronchitis is nothing to mess around with!
You know your kids are grown up when they offer to split the restaurant dinner bill with you!!!
I marinated chicken thighs with balsamic dressing, rosemary, lots of garlic and a splash of lemon. DH is grilling them now. I also made brown rice pilaf (from a box) and glazed baby carrots. We should be eating in about 5 minutes. DH thought the chicken might be done, but I wasn't so sure. He cut into one and well, it was still pink. So back on the grill they go!
Now, as for that haircut tomorrow, it will be quite minimal. I have so many different lengths going on that I thought it would look better with a little evening out and shaping. I never wore my hair very long, it's just that my layers were longer. Won't be long now before it's "normal" for me. The top is still an inch shorter than the back, so time to get that fixed.
-
I can't wait to grill again. I am jealous. But I am actually going to get my hair cut tomorrow too. Same reason, it's not long by any stretch of the imagination, but it is all different. Hopefully, she'll be able to shape it and make it look like something. I lost my hair in march, finished chemo the end of July. It's been a long time coming.
-
Kay & Kaara- I know what you mean, when DH and I went to Hawaii my Grand-daughter would order the most expensive on the menu, Lobster, crab ect.. and believe me Lobster in Hawaii is NOT cheap, then she would just pick at it. Kids! They have no clue LOL!
Michelle- Your chicken recipe sounds really good cant wait to bq here this summer! Your hair looks so thick and cute right now. I was really finally likeing my hair, it looked and felt great i even had compliments from strangers wanting to know where i got my hair done at- I wanted to say "compliments from chemo" but i didnt LOL! Now it is growing to long and not likeing it as much, even though i always had long hair i have liked it better shorter since chemo.
Doing a pork fried rice from leftover pork, and leftover veggies.
-
Michelle, enjoy the haircut....and especially your birthday celebration with the family crew. How very sweet for all of you!! Really positive thoughts for you as you head to your MO appt.
Debbie, I hope you can get that bronchitis checked out, soon. Feel better!
Apple, your dinner sounds so delish! I love gazpacho...and put my easy recipe for it on the Healthy Soups forum some months back.
Laurie, I can't imagine how disconcerting those PVC's must be for you, but hopefully when you see the cardiologist you can get a good read on them and what you can do to keep them at bay as much as possible.
My DS2 developed a cardiac condition as a 13 year old while playing his 3rd playoff basketball game of the day/night one Sunday. He started to pass out on the court, and I was terrified (of course my husband was jetting his way to the West Coast on business at that time). Got to see the cardiologist at Children's the next day and learned he had Wolfe Parkinson White syndrome, an electrical condition which was able to be corrected with cardiac electrophysiology. Believe me, the hardest thing about that whole process was keeping the guy "down" while awaiting the procedure. He was in the middle of playoffs afterall(which of course were going to get him into the NBA!!!!;). As a 31 year old now, he should be getting at least occasional EEG's since these fibers that were ablated can grow back, and the same symptom (all chambers beating at the same time) would ensue. This past year he was preparing to run a half marathon in Chicago and I got worried knowing that he has not gotten an EEG for several years since he thinks of himself as really healthy. I was very relieved that he listened to my maternal worry that I did not want to fly to Chicago to pick him up off the street. He called his doc for a rare physical and EEG, which was fine. It is impressive what can be done for our hearts these days.....Good luck, Laurie!
Interestingly, I never had to get my boys any stitches either...and I'm actually surprised that little DGS lost his balance.....actually twice, since the following day he fell at the park with a resulting tooth into the lip! He is truly a motor machine, walking since 9 months, never sits down, takes gymnastics, and would appear to be really coordinated for a 16 month old. Fortunately, DS1 and DIL got him to a plastic surgeon for the stitches (over the eyebrow, not too bad a spot, I guess). They are both surgeons, and tend to be very particular about any one else's "work", so I'm eager to see this new facial feature!
Laurie, I'm glad that you mentioned Hermanos since we are always looking for possible
eating spots on the way home from the lake. When Lacey was alive, we never stopped since we didn't want to leave her in the car in the heat. So now we can explore new (to us) restaurants.
Off to watch the Celtics play sort of a garbage game against the Heat. DH and DS2 are there. I declined since (surprise, surprise) I was too tired after working. TV is fine....:)
Have a good evening everyone. Sorry for going on so..... -
Dinner was leftover linguini and a salad. It was just as good as last night! No before dinner martini tonight because dh had a woodworkers' guild meeting at 7pm. It was so different just to sit down and eat without our usual nighttime ritual. I'm thinking I'll pour myself a glass of wine!
I played golf with a partner in our women's group's member-member tournament, then had lunch afterward. A chicken fajita that was really good. Tomorrow is the 2nd and final day of the tournament. It was such a beautiful day today to be outside.
Tomorrow is CSA pickup. I don't know what we're having for dinner, but I'll probably cook a veggie out of the CSA bag.
Happy birthday, Michelle. I love Mexican food.
Laurie, you're only 36? What a youngster you are to be so wise!
Apple, I haven't had a Reuben in ages and it's not because I don't like them. They're one of my favorites sandwiches, but, like Muffalettas, they are so laden with salt.
Hope everyone is having a good evening.
-

LAURIE
-
Luv Reuben sandwiches.
(((((EVERYONE))))))
-
Apple I love ruebens also could you share how you make them? Just wanna be sure I'm doing it right LOL although my husband never complains.
Laurie Because you were ER/PR positive are you on tamoxifen and been thrown head first into menopause? Menopause can cause some cardiac changes, along with everything else! Oh what fun to be a woman.....hope the cardioligsit can make you comfortable and not worry
I went to the plastic surgeon today and everything is healing great. Cant get my tatoo till July as the girl only comes in twice a month and is booked up till then, oh well, no biggy.
Michelle Happy Birthday! Thats my take on things also.....if I am having another birthday it just means I am alive!
-
Carrie- Glad everything is healing. I still laugh at myself with i think of tatoos, I didnt know anything about them as far as for breast cancer and it might of been this thread i cant remember sometime last year someone mentioned getting tatoos and i went on to say i had one on my hand when i was younger but had it removed, i still cringe at that and cant find it now to remove it, i wonder what people thought of me when i said that LOL!
Laurie- I hope you are doing ok today (((hugs))))
Made a broiled chili and cheese sandwich today it was so good. I used french rolls, put a little bit of mustard on it layered with jack and cheddar cheese, chopped red onion, sliced tomatoe, whole green chilis, kept it open and broiled until it was melted and the bread was crusty then put a little vinegrette on it. It was the best sandwich ever!
-
Hi everyone! My MO appointment was pretty much a non-event, as I expected it would be. The one thing I have to see is the CA27.29 results, which I'll get on Friday. If it comes back normal, then I won't have a PET scan until after my next appointment at the end of August. Everyone is so friendly there, I spent a few minutes visiting my chemo nurse and the assistants.
And thanks for the birthday wishes. I'm just so glad to be able to celebrate it this year! And now it appears that we will do a Japanese steakhouse instead of Mexican, which is fine by me. I actually like that a little better, and we think the kiddies will be more entertained. We had checked with the Mexican restaurant and they don't have any special entertainment on Saturdays, so Japanese wins out. As long as we're all together, that's what matters.
Carrie - glad you are healing well!
Debbie - your sandwich sounds like heartburn on a roll...LOL! Are you feeling better? Or did that sandwich take care of any congestion you might have had?
Laurie - thinking of you and hoping all is well!
I need to give JoyceK a call. Seems she might be weaning herself off the boards.
-
Michelle- Will be keeping you in my prayers for "Normal" tumor markers hope everything will be ok. I love Japeneese steak houses especially benny hannas we dont have one close by us but love there food and it is entertaining watching them flip those knives (scarey) but fun! I luckily dont get heart burn if i did i would be in real trouble i love spicy foods but this really wasnt spicy the ortega chilis i use are mild ones, they come whole in a can.
Please tell Joyce hi for me and let her know she is missed i hope she is feeling ok! Sending ((((hugs)))) to you Joyce!
-
Michelle: Glad everything went well for you!
Laurie: Let us know how you're doing and if you were able to get an appointment.
-
Hi ladies, I try to not post until I can quietly read the previous posts and respond to everyone. But I am going to wing it a bit.
Michelle- Yay for your appointment going well! Let Joyce know we miss her.
Carol-
I have been called a lot of things, but wise is a huge compliment, thank you.
So the "heart drama". The cardiologist office called first thing this morning and said they spoke to my primary and the primary wants me to be seen asap. They have a specialist from Dartmouth helping out at the local hospital and she was going to try to get me in with him. Said she would call me back, I never heard from her again today. But she made me feel optimistic. I told her about the dental infection and how this coincided etc. So we will see what happens. It has not been as intense. I skip a few minutes without having the pvc's, they come back and go. But better than every minute. I;ll take what I can get.
So super busy day. I took the boys with me to work this morning and bribed them with friendly's if they behaved, they did so we went. OMG. I will never do that again. They have a special on Wednesdays, kids eat for 1.99 and it was school vacation week. oops. But the three of us ate for 13 dollars, pretty cheap and they were thrilled. Played outside all afternoon and now DH is home and taking the brunt of the insanity.
Dinner is home made chicken tenders, baked potatoes and corn on the cob. I am hoping for a peaceful dinner followed by on time bed times. Bruins are on tonight game 7!! I am going to have to record American Idol, lol!!!
Hope you are all doing well, and thank you so much for thinking of me.
-
Laurie: Glad you are getting for a doctor visit. Those PVC's are pesky things...by the time you go they will probably have gone away...not a bad thing...but still, hard to diagnose. Glad you're feeling a little better.
-
Dinner tonight was seared catfish fillets heavily seasoned with Paul Prudhomme's saltfree Magic. Butter and olive oil heated in the skillet. The fish turns out kind of blackened. DH made his tartar sauce: mayo, horseradish and dill relish. Our side dish was young zucchini, two varieties. One with stripes and one round and fat. Both from the CSA veggies. Heated some chopped garlic in EVOO in a skillet. Added the zukes chopped in big pieces. Added a can of diced tomatoes, low salt. Added fresh thyme and fresh basil, also some black pepper and pepper flakes, a little salt. Cooked the zucchini until it was fork tender. Threw another handful of basil on top and grated some Asiago. Very good. You could taste the fresh herbs. Asiago cheese will make anything good!
At Thanksgiving last year we went to one of the Japanese restaurants with DH's sister and her dh and the sister's daughter's family, which included 4 kids. The reason for choosing the restaurant was entertainment for the kids. The food was just so-so. But the kids were entertained!
Tomorrow night I won't be cooking. We're going to a party for the volunteers who worked in the Wooden Boat Festival last Oct. The main dish is supposed to be barbecue. And I believe there will be music.
-
Not too hungry tonight, made egg salad sandwiches.
-
Dinner out tonight at CPK with BF's son. He's a great kid and it's always fun to be in his company. I tried a new dish on their menu...chili relleno stuffed with veggies and southwest seasoning and baked. It was very good, and gluten free, as are many of their menu items.
-
Kaara- How was your dinner out with your BF's friend?
-
Happy birthday Michelle!
Laurie I hope your heart calms down.
I am still tired at work and get home late so it's hard to keep up
Debbie, I made your mushroom sauce for pasta tonight, but too tired to make the pasta.
I am the worst "cook" here. I had 1/2 of a tuna sandwhich today, a banana, coffee, and Iced Tea. Not really exciting. DD dropped off her dog today to watch while she goes to India. Thank God she's with a girl who is responsible and is part of a tour. Sorry if any misspellings. Just put drops in my eys, for moisture. Darn Aminidex.
Going to cuddle under the covers with the little poodle and the cats will most likelly stomp around all night bieiing mad Night.
-
Laurie- Hope you get in right away to the specialist so it can put you at ease with what or what it isnt. Hmm maybe it is because of the dental infections. I sure hope you get some answers soon.
Deb- Funny picture i stole it from you on FB.
Carol- Hows your Bp today?
Bedo- I dont think you are a bad cook you have come up with some pretty good sounding stuff! Hope you end up likeing the saute mushrooms, one thing i forgot to mention was that when you are sauteing mushrooms, never salt them until after they are soft and almost done it speeds up the process of cooking them and browns better if you do it that way, but will still be fine if you did add salt in the begining, just a tip i thought id throw in there.
DH is golfing, well probably drinking by now. but i always make things i like when he is not home for dinner, things he dosnt care for. He dosnt like corn, avacodos, tomatoes or squash or yams or fish. (weird) So i made cod, yams, corn on the cob that i microwaved and then cut off the cob. (so good) had leftover broccoli and mushrooms. It was pretty darn good too but I am so full. then i had popcorn for dessert and made some hot fudge and poured it over the popcorn, im ready to pop my self! LOL!
Kaara- I hope your eyes are better today
