Good Afternoon Friends,
It's been a busy day for me. Thankfully, I got some work in ... and then I spent time getting up all the acorns on the ground. What a huge task. The oak tree out the back door is about 100 feet tall and it takes three people to stretch around the trunk.
When I talked to my friend Brenda this a.m. she was waiting to get her labs back to see if she could get abraxane and zometa today. Hopefully, she was discharged after that. I need to call again and see if they made it to Chapel Hill, where she has a second opinion appointment on Wednesday.
Thank you all for the wonderful comments on my two boys. I love them so much and miss them terribly. Can't wait to see them in two weeks.
Pip ... I am so sorry for the loss of your beloved dog and little horse. It hurts so bad to lose our pets. I still miss my big dog Bobo and he's been gone two years now.
Blue ... I hope you're feeling better today. I worry about you and if you're getting relief from the pain.
Sending hugs to everyone,
Bren

WR - thanks for the reminder, I was supposed to call and make reservations for dinner this Friday and I had utterly forgotten. Thanks to you, we are now going out for dinner on Friday. Hopefully in celebration of finally getting our house on the market. It was supposed to be last week - that blew up because of work problems for me. Then it was supposed to be today - our real estate agents son got sick, so she couldn't leave him, Tuesday was out (we're watching the debates). Wednesday was out (getting a massage), so hopefully Thursday is the day. Friday is celebration at reaching a milestone. Mind you, if the house actually ever sells, that will be a MAJOR celebration!!!
Pip, so sorry about the loss of your friends. Losing a loved member of the family is so difficult.
One of these days I'll post some pics - if I EVER figure out how to do it. Why couldn't they just make it NORMAL!!! upload from my PC - what is so difficult about that.....???? Why oh why does it have to be from somewhere on the Internet!!!

I am having a single malt whiskey for dinner and I have a good reason (I think) - I received a call first thing this morning to come into the oncs office to talk about a biopsy my PCP did on a cyst on the surface of my non BC breast about six weeks ago - well, the upshot is this - I have been diagnosed as Stage 4 - it is a small tumour that showed up on the non-affected breast and is a recurrent tumour - I start on Arimidex in the morning - my last run-in with Arimidex was dreadful but when the chips are down you do what you're told to do - I spent the afternoon meeting with the onc having blood drawn and having testing moved up to November from January - my tumour markers and recent mamo and u/s show non of this but the biopsy says it is so - apparently I am handling this well (outside sources are saying this) - I guess I am of the persuasion that says I'm going to go sometime and I will be 67 in another six weeks so WTF! Just wanted to share as this is where I usually lurk and post...
-
Sandy - wait a sec - did they explicitly say you are stage IV - you have skin mets? If it is cancer on the other breast it's not necessarily stage IV - just wanted to get clarity.
(((((Sandy))))) So sorry this has happened!
-
Lewing, should we call you "leftist era?" I LOVE that autocorrect! I turned off the autocorrect on my iPad after too many ... Er... Interesting autocorrects!
I love coming here and chatting with you all. I learn new stuff, read delightful links ( LOOOOOVED the Philly Inquirer endorsement!) and feel like people understand me here.
GG, you can post pix from Facebook very easily. Just put them into Your Pictures and then copy them here with a right click. I just have to get around to taking pix of my fur kids and putting them on.
Leftover turkey tacos for dinner tonight -- I made the taco meat last night when I was cooking dinner because it is always better having "mellowed" overnight.

Sandy, I am sorry to hear this news. We are here for you, whatever you need, let us know. Cry, rant, curse, whatever. Sending hugs.
-
((208sandy))
Oh Futch.
What a shame. Hugs for you. I hope you have a better time on Arimidex or Aromasin if that's what you need. Someone on this thread, I am sorry I forgot who, suggested that the second tumor have a full biopsy. It may be very estrogen positive; it may not be. It is worth checking.
When things start to well up, don't forget to breathe.
-
Yup, tumour has had a full biopsy and it is ER+ and thanks for the "breathing" lesson - I do hold my breath when I am stressed.
-
Oh shit, Sandy -- I crossposted with you. Damn damn damn ... Is there any possibility it could be a new primary? Oh, my friend .... Big hugs to you. You handle it however you need to handle it, here or anywhere else. We'll be right here. I effing hate cancer.
L -
Sandy-You go ahead and have that single malt whiskey. Your news sucks. Big hugs.
Mary
-
Sandy - Sorry to hear your news. That most certainly calls for a single malt whiskey, and not just one.
-
Oh Sandy - I am so incredibly sorry to hear that. Huge hugs. Treat yourself very well, by doing whatever you feel like doing - have that whiskey.
-
(((((Sandy)))))
Big hugs. We're all here for you.
-
whiskey's on the house tonight. Maybe this is page 1000? Take a comfortable cushion, sandy, and spend the evening here.
-
I'm so sorry, Sandy. (((hugs))). This sucks hugely. Hope this go-around with Arimidex is kinder to you than last time.
-
Sandy, this sucks. I think having a single malt whiskey is the most rational response possible. Please don't feel you have to be calm and rational here though. Do and say whatever you need to.
-
Sandy - so sorry. I'm with HL on this question...are they sure it's not a new primary?
-
Sorry to hear your news, Sandy. Warm hugs to you!
-
Sandy ... WTF. I hate hearing this news. I am so sad. Goddammit ... I just want to scream and cry at the same time. You sound much more calm than I am at the moment.
I love you buddy ... miss you too.
Bren
-
Sandy ... I know how you feel about the Arimidex. I feel the same way. I hope it is kinder to you this go round.
hugs,
Bren
-
Phuck!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
(((hugs))) to you Sandy. We've always got a comfy chair and are here if you need to vent or talk about any of it. Breast cancer is such a sneaky monster
-
Sandy, I'm so terribly sorry to hear this news. It just plain sucks . . . and that's the mildest possible expression that comes to mind. Damn it all: I want to take cancer and jump up and down on it while wearing hobnail boots.
(((Sandy)))
Leftist Era -
Oh look at us - PAGE ONE THOUSAND!!!!
Thanks everyone for your thoughts - you're a good enough reason for me to stay around for another 20 years!!!
P.S. No it is NOT a new primary - I was hoping too...
-
Swig of whisky, what...may the BCO BG and all of us be around for page 2,000.

-
Hey Leftist Era....auto correct at work again?
;-)
Sandy - miserable, miserable news. I cannot believe that the cancer dared show its face around you again. Does it not know who it's dealing with??
I am with my family at Nags Head this week. Having a fantastic beachy time!
E -
Oh no, Sandy! I'm so sorry and this just stinks.
But how can you be Stage IV if it is in the breast, even if the other one? Seems like that would be a local recurrence, like to the lymph nodes.
-
Sandy -- I haven't been around long but add my feelings to that of all your friends.....lousy f'n disease.

Just something to gnaw on when there is time:
By Ann Werner:
Despite the claims
by Republicans that Democrats are bad for business, the historical proof tells a
different story. According to The
Economist, quoting sources at Barclays Capital, the past 83 years shows a
stark difference in stock market gains and losses under both Democratic and
Republican administrations. The Democrats come out the clear
winner.Researching data
and crunching the numbers going back to the stock market crash of 1929, Barclays
reports that under Democratic administrations, the nominal share price has
increased 460% while under Republican administrations it has increased 100%. The
nominal share price, or par value, is the value as listed on the share
certificate as opposed to the market share, which can be higher or lower than
the nominal value. Investors are always more interested in the market price.
More importantly, the cumulative value of shares has risen 300% under Democratic
administrations. The Republicans? Nil. That's right. Zero. Nada. A big, fat
goose egg.//
//Even Fox
Business reports that the historical data favors Democrats and shows that
not only stocks but also the Gross Domestic Product has performed better when
the Democrats are running the show. Quoting a report from McGraw Hill's S&P
Capital IQ, FBN has noted that the S&P 500 has recorded average gains of
12.1% per annum since 1901 under Democrats while Republican gains have come in
at an average of 5.1%. Under Democrats the GDP shows increases of 4.2% per annum
compared with 2.6% under Republicans. In the unkindest
cut of all, corporate profits do better under Democrats than under Republican
tutelage, recording a median increase of 10.5% per year since 1936 compared to
8.9% under Republicans.Of course, FBN had
to get in its jabs and tried really hard to make it seem as if the Democrats
"tax and spend" policies wind up doing damage that Republicans then have to come
in and fix. Maybe, they posit, it's those nasty stimulus packages that make
everything seem better than it really is. Or perhaps (and better yet) the
recovery is actually due to the policies of the previous administration. If you
believe that, I've got some prime oceanfront property in Phoenix Arizona I'd
just love to sell you because we all know that George W. Bush inherited a
surplus and left us with a train wreck. You can slice and
dice numbers any way you want, but when you've got over a century of data and
that data shows who does better, time and time again, then you've got to go with
the numbers. It's called arithmetic. -
