Yorkie - that's why I think my onc lied to get Zometa for me. In Oz, you have to have already had a fracture to get it free from the government. I don't have osteoporosis but mild osteopenia.
Well, the new PC is great. I am overwhelmed how easy the whole set up process went. Did the last install last night - Citrix client - so I can log in to work from home. Maybe now my life won't be intruded upon by pc's crashing and having to restore them all the time. I switched Steve over to his laptop a while ago. I got SO sick of him crashing and asking me what was wrong and having to fix it. Still have to install the new version of the virus software on his, but that can wait a while.
Chickadee - we miss you!!!!

Just read on the Stage IV thread that Chickadee was going on a cruise this month - hopefully she is out there lapping up the sun.
-

notself, that was beautiful!
-
Nice, very nice. Ruth Ginsberg, what a lovely soul.
-
Less lofty thoughts on Ms. Ginsberg....I've always been fascinated by how early Ms Ginsberg caught her pancreatic cancer. I've read "she caught the cancer with a routine CT Scan." It might be that the colon cancer she had in the late 1990's required her to have periodic CT scans, but otherwise, they are hardly "routine."
My other thought is I find it odd she did not retire during Obama's first term given the possibilities.

Hi guys. I'm back. Pretty exhausted. Drove home on Sunday. Slept in yesterday. My son had me running errands with him today.
Not sure if I'm up to that kind of effort anymore but glad I did it. Took my mind off cancer, politics, family angst.........just work and sleep. I've checked in a couple times but just had no brain activity to even think about all the great discussions y'all have been having.
Gonna slowly get back to speed. Seeing onc next week for checkup I put off in Sept. -
Welcome back Chickadee! And congrats on your wonderful work! Hope you can get many hours of peaceful sleep tonight!
-
Saw the Pa. decision....Yay !!!
Jackie

Welcome back, chickadee!
-
Swell, now Ryan is saying 30% of Americans want a welfare state! These people are sick, sick, sick.

-
What Romney doesn't destroy himself, Ryan finishes off.
Welcome back Chickadee!!
-
....then they accuse others of starting "class warfare."
-
Ryan - whatta maroon!
Welcome back, Chickadee! Hope you had tons of fun.
-
Oh, yes, it was such fun getting together with Susan/Scoot/Enjoyous and meeting Sampson the great! Sampson is a beautiful horse and you can tell how much he loves Susan! The get together you all had last summer sounds wonderful. If I had a great big house I'd love to host such an event! You must have had such a great time together and a wonderful "bonding" experience!
Reading through the past few days and so much to absorb. Since my first BC was in 1987 I had at least 5 years of tamoxifen and then another 5 (or more, can't really remember) of femara. What I do remember is that one year after stopping femara is when the lung mets was diagnosed. I always wonder what would've happened if I had stayed on the femara. Have never had a dexa .... don't know what it is, really. Have had bone scans and my bones seem pretty good though I do have some arthritis. No one has ever mentioned zometa to me but I have chemo tomorrow so will try to remember to ask my ONC about it.
I was fortunate (?) to go through menopause with my first chemo back in 1987. I always thought that was the best side effect though I didn't know at the time that it was the cause of my bitchiness ..... LOL!
I visited my old school today and one of the technology assistants is making me a badge with a black ribbon that says "We're Aware .... Find a Cure."
I'm off to bed. Have to be at the hospital at 8 for labs tomorrow and for me, that is EARLY! Looking forward to the debates tomorrow night! -
P.S. Welcome home, Chickadee! Thanks for a job well done!
-
Thank YOU, Chickadee...and welcome home.
Glenna - ooohh...10 years of antihormonals, and then...bam. Ooohhh....now THAT is all of our worst fear...jeez, what more can we do? Really - there's no way to stay on these things longer than 10 years. BTW, I love your Brian Andress quote: I have several of his pictures, books, love him.
So glad you & scoot/enjoyful had a great day. Really want to start thinking about another "reunion" for those of us who couldn't get to the last one.
Kam, I HONOUR Ruth Bader Ginsberg, but had the same "wonder" you did for the past few years. Really hoping it won't matter now, but you're definitely not alone in "wondering" -
Speaking of SC, I couldn't bear to watch the Warren/brown "debate" - but takeway seems to be his HERO, of all the people in the world he could have named - get ready for it, Scalia. Seriously, I'm not making this up. OF ALL THE PEOPLE IN THE WORLD , he names, Scalia. "nuff said. Blue, how do you spell idjuts?
-
And it wasn't just that Scott Brown idolized Scalia.... as soon as the crowd reacted negatively, he added Kennedy to the list, then Roberts, then Sotamayor!! It was such a Palinesque (dumb), with a Romney twist (conflicting answers), response.
Glenna - 10 years and then it returns? There is no justice. Did you have chemo back in the 90's? Can I ask you what grade your original tumor was?
My cats brought in a bird while I was at work yesterday (cat door). All I found were feathers, mostly in my kitchen, but they don't eat their prey and I couldn't find it. This morning I heard strange banging on metal noises. Ms Boo is trying to get something under my Thermador Range....gads, could it be alive? They couldn't be interested in a dead bird, could they? There's like 1 inch of headspace down there.
-
Kam, I was going to ask Glenna about chemo - but then noticed in her post she DID have it in 1987. Terrifying. Really. No justice is putting it mildly, my thoughts ( and language) wold definitely get me banned.
I couldn't watch, or listen, to the debates - stomach not strong enough ....but glad others do, so they can see how wondereful Elizabeth Warren is. Thanks to her, we DO have a Consumer Financial Protection Law, and agency - already working and doing GOOD WORK. Think this is a blessing, instead of being head of it, she is our NEXT SENATOR! In the Kennedy seat.

-
So I'm reading the paper this morning and a local T group is having a get together. Subjects to be discussed.....why are we turning to socialism, changing the black vote, and losing Christian rights. An actress who formerly sold eye drops on tv will speak about the constitution......wow.....add to that a conservative rapper, a John Wayne impersonator and the Jesus Country Show band.
A good time will be had by all........no comments necessary. -
thanks chickadee, spewed tea all over the key board ....can't wait to hear the minutes of that "meeting" - yuck.
-
That's too funny!
I am off to the doctor's next week to beg -yes- beg for HRT. My short-term survival may depend on it. In order to survive my comorbidity, I may have to risk dying of BC instead. I'm making my choice with open eyes and no regrets. Damned shame that I am put in this position, needless to say.
Not a good situation I am in. Have been suffering mightily for too long.
-
Kam,
My 1987 tumor was stage IIB. I don't think they graded tumors back then. At least it is nowhere in my records. At the time I was told I had a 15% chance of surviving 5 years. I think that was because of the lymph node involvement. I feel like I really beat the odds. It was scary as hell, though, because we had adopted our two youngest who were foster children in August 1987 and I was diagnosed in October. They were only 5 and 6. Our other son was 11. I was freaking out that I would die and leave my DH with all these kids. Now I have 4 grandchildren. DH is thankful I hung around! LOL! I did a trial chemo program through Hopkins and had a chemo cocktail every week for 16 weeks. It was rough but worth it. Now you know why I love Andreas birthday quote so much!! -
(((Chickaddee))) and Sun, Kam, Yorkie, Athena and anyone I have missed -- almost refreshing to know how little some things change. Goose cooking is not fun I suppose and when you have to "play" the sentiments of the senior person you have been picked to do so for, then one color blends into the other. I do note that Biden had to explain something.....difference to me......the Republicans side has had to try and FIX something every day...
I look forward to the debates --- not because I think Romney can ACTUALLY do much...as Ed Schultz said, after months of gaffes and total un-willingness to share details, added to his degree of non-empathy, it it more to me to see this item move past.
My concern remains with those who will be trying to negatively influence the vote. That is so fundamental. There is no justification --- lying, cheating, and stealing your way to what you want ???? In that sense of the word I would only say....."be careful what your asking for -- because you may have deep regrets if you get it". I think many, many things are gotten by way of ill gotten means, but I've not heard much about how well that turned out. People who have apparently been good at it have to keep it pretty much hidden. I wish anyone well who must lie, cheat, and steal.....its the karma thing. The train you won't see coming till it arrives, so good luck to you.
Jackie

Chickadee - great to have you back. I missed your sense of humor!
Glenna - sounds like a wonderful time with Enjoyful/Scoot.
Enjoyful - jealous of your horse.
I am also looking forward to the debate. I'm with Jackie, though, I think that there is clear evidence of a Republican plan to steal the election. Sort of reminds me of what my Dad used to say about my golf game: if you can't win, just lie.
I would like to offer my house in Vermont as a possible meeting place, maybe in the spring. It's a half hour north of Montpelier and a half hour from Stowe, in a secluded mountain site. The problem is it's not huge. I have a queen bed, a king bed, two bunk beds, a twin bed, and a cot. There's also one couch and two love seats, but after that, it'll have to be air mattresses somewhere on the floor. Anyway, throwing the offer out.
-
Splaining versus Fixing, perfect Illionois. I've come to adore Biden's gaffes, because of what they aren't--Mean spirited, born of lies or obfuscation, or have anything to do with a malicious agenda, and how he speaks truth to power.
Glenna - thanks for the info. Now, if it is in your nodes, isn't one automatically Stage III? So cool you adopted your Foster children. xxo
Athena - my cousin is ER+ and takes HRT. She is in Canada. She didn't even try hormone blockers. Her theory is that her QOL is infinitely more important than her lifespan. On the other hand, she found her cancer very early, at 6mm and since we have hereditary cancer (brca) she might think she will be lucky like her mother with BC and live another 30 years post dx, like her mom.
-
I will watch the debate tonight and be happy it is on in large part because the talking heads on all the news channels have had nothing to talk about but expectations of who will say what or who ought to say what. Then of course, there will be days of analyzing who said what with what tilt of their head or whatever. Still, it is important and interesting stuff.
Alexandria - do you have room for air mattresses or tents?!
-
Chickadee, you are not kidding about the T rally lineup, are you?
-
Glad to see you back chickadee! It was a wonderful thing you did going to help people out.
(((hugs))) to Athena. When I was diagnosed somebody made the remark that my onc would 'be my family doctor now'. My first thought was no she won't. Oncs have tunnel vision about cancer (understandable) but most of us have other things we need to consider too when deciding on treatments. Hope you are successful in getting what you need to be a well and happy lioness.
Was reading another discussion board this morning and people say that Faux News has given up all pretense of fair and balanced and gone in full blown anti-Obama/pro-Romney campaign mode. To the point even the conservatives there are shocked. I don't watch it but it seems to me the people who do are already in that camp so they are preaching to the choir.
Finally seeing a glimpse of sunshine here! I guess I'm over my drought trauma ... was not liking the last fews days of constant rain and drizzle.
-
I'm going to watch the debate tonight. I seriously doubt it will change anybody's mind, or influence the decision for undecideds though. Both opponents are skilled, savy debaters and intelligent to boot.
Personally, I don't think Willard can EVER recover from his 47% remark. Add Ryan's "30% of Americans want a welfare state" comment and we have Republican T.O.A.S.T. Yummy!
