Athena, tee, hee...it was not the MAC - it's the Canon printer (Pixma MP500).  I've only used Apple Computers since my first purchase, an SE20 in 1988.  Now on a MacBookPro gorgeous laptop that is the best yet. They last for years.

The Mac user group, in Washington DC is called:  Washington Apple Pi.

Yes, I need to explain about Mr. otter's MacBook problems.  It wasn't the laptop, or the operating system, that was at fault.  He had installed the new operating system (one of those cat-things... Lion?  Tiger?  I don't even have Snow Leopard yet...), and then he tried to re-install some of his favorite geeky software that wasn't really designed for Mac's, much less compatible with the new operating system.  Some of his computer's neurons got crossed and his computer started misbehaving.  He figured the problem was with those odd programs he had reinstalled; but there was nothing he could do about it except start over.

I used non-Apple computers at work for around 22 years (since there was nothing but DOS, a green screen, and one 5-1/4 inch floppy disk drive).  IMHO, the problem hubs was having with his MacBook is the sort of thing that happens with non-Apple (now, Windows) computers all the time.  Upgrade some hardware, or update some software, and everything else on the computer is suddenly obsolete or unstable.  I've used a Mac for the past 4-1/2 years, and things just work so much better in Mac Land.

My daughter-in-law who teaches technology at a local college, has ONLY used Mac's...swears by them...in fact she doesn't know the name of any other computers out there. Now that's pure dedication....or smarts?

I have the 3G Kindle and I LOVE it.  I can subscribe to blogs and newspapers that are automatically delivered to my Kindle, play games on it, and have access to quite a few books (including a lot of free and $.99 books!).  You can also access the internet on it, though I rarely do because it's painfully slow.

I do have a soft spot for the iPad - but I am also happy with my new HP computer, although the wireless keyboard is too cute by half, IMO. The keys are nice and soft, but you have to press relatively hard to ensure that the message gets sent and the letter actually appears on the screen. Stll, I'm in cloud nine.

Good news - DH's computer back to normal - now I have to back it up again and hope the new image is OK. I was able to browse the image and get his contacts, favourites, mail folders etc, so that was really good.

Had fun at work today - I actually had some real work to do - so satisfying. Got more to do tomorrow. Also my team leader let me know which project I'll be working on next.

Got some rain and storms this afternoon - much cooler now and my garden is happy, but Poppy isn't  - she hates rain.

SusieQ - LOL   They really are having a wild time in the Alts Forum.  I feel sorry for those who feel the need to make an "either/or" choice when it comes to treating the Beast.  Also wonder what kind of oncologists some of the women might have encountered?  Feel so blessed I managed to land at Dana Farber - it was my oncologist who suggested acupuncture for relief from SE's of Arimidex! Honestly wouldn't have thought of it myself.  And, WOW, what a difference it has made for me.

Almost as important as the jokes provided here.  Still giggle to myself at how long it took me to get the "flys in the lightbulb."

Artsee, I'm with you DIL - when my very first computer "crashed" I replaced the 20 mg ( I'm not kidding!) hard drive with a 180 mg.  Asked to keep the original 20 mg hard drive, and this was in 1990.  I STILL HAVE IT - and it makes a great door stop - weighs 2 1/2 pounds - almost more than my MacBookPro ;-)))   Never used that "other" kind of computer. Nevah, nevah, nevah!!!!

(Rolling up sleeves): Sunflowers - just what do you mean by "that other" computer"???? JK. Actually, probably the biggest reason who I did not opt for MAC at home is because I wanted to easily transition between work and home without worrying about Windows compatibility. I know, I know, MACs can be made compatible, but they are still a headache in many cases.

Hi Friends,

I'm having a really tough week.  I am so sad.  My cousin died Tuesday night.  I just can't believe she's gone.

Then today I had to put my dog to sleep.  He was a bassett mix and 15 years-old.  The vet said it was time to let him go.  He was in really bad shape, but I just kept hanging on ... probably long past when I should have let him go.  Poor Winston ... I miss him so much.

I've been crying all week ... there are more troubles, but I don't want to talk about them.

I'm hoping tomorrow is a better day,

Bren!!! That's just too much grief for one week! I ache for you sister. Go ahead and cry your eyes out.

Snowy and cold here. I've been in a funk because I have a cold, tweaked my knee running or in Pilates, and partially ruptured a flexor tendon in my finger while rock climbing two weeks ago. Well, I may as well give in to the Universe--and allow for recovery the rest of this month. I have what I hope will be my final reconstruction surgery next Friday. I am SO ready to be done...

E--loved the Breastdom tale! I don't step foot in Tighty-land any more. It's a toxic waste dump, and I value my mental and physical health.

Seems to be lots of chaos in the Universe right now. Everyone take care.

We got really lucky and the snow they were predicting for us stayed just a little bit north.  My sympathies to those who were not so fortunate.  Snow is a four letter word for a good reason IMO.

Bren, I'm sorry for your losses. Life just doesn't seem fair sometimes. Hang in there.I never wanted my dogs to suffer because of my selfish reasons. When it's their time, it's their time. We always forget that when we get those new baby pooches don't we? Time just flies by. I can't believe my little 'Lucy" is going to be 4 this month.
