We drove by a predominantly muslim neighbourhood on Sunday. We got stuck in trafffic because they were celebrating a religious day (not sure which one). As we drove by, there were men and women coming up to the car with every kind of food and drink imaginable. The food was excellent, the people friendly and it warmed my heart that I live in a multi-cultural society, and that I could experience and share the fun.

Good article River_Rat. Here is one from an Islamic Center in my area ... their comments are not receiving much local press either ... I had to Google to find it.
A national Islamic organization based in central Indiana is hopeful the death of Osama bin Laden will bring some peace between Muslims and Christians. Sarah Thompson is the spokeswoman for the Islamic Center of North America and said while none of bin Laden's victims can be brought back, their families can maybe get some peace.
"Hopefully this can give some peace to all these families that are suffering," stated Thompson.
Thompson said while she appreciates the steps the U.S. military took to give bin Laden as much of a proper Muslim burial as possible at sea, she doesn't think it was worth it. She said he attacked Muslims as well as Christians and Jews and said not much time should be spent worrying about whether or not every proper step was taken during the burial.
The Islamic Center of North America has served Muslims for roughly four decades in the Indianapolis suburb of Plainfield.

Bluedahlia, thanks for sharing that. It paints a nice picture.
WhiteRabbit, I agree. I would feel differently if we had bombed the place and didn't know who all we hit. I wish there were some way that we could get the media to pay more attention to pieces like your link.
I have to add that I think that President Bush and Donald Rumsfeld are taking some hits that aren't necessarily warranted. There seem to be a lot of people quoting Bush and Rumsfeld as not really being interested in or worried about Bin Laden (not saying people here, I've been reading at so many places I forget what I read where). I don't believe that's the case. I do fault them for diverting into Iraq, but I really believe that they were trying to get Bin Laden. I believe that their language otherwise was more of a cover or bluff.

Medigal.......There will always be those who will question Obama and his decisions. Whether the order was shoot to kill...........or...........let him surrender, we all know how that would have turned out.......he would have become a hero to his followers...........A decision had to be made and Obama made it..........My take on this is ......The only reason (if he didn't have a weapon), was because he did not have the time to get one.............He would have done no different to our Navy Seals, if he would have had a weapon,.....................so good he didn't..........
I agree the news media starts trouble no matter what the case......................If anyone hs been watching Fox News........they are doing all they can to stir up trouble over this, and so is Sean Hannity...he can't wait for some slep to agree with his hateful opinions about Obama.........and that man calls himself a "good american".................Then there is the other freak Rush Limbaugh ridiculing Obama while trying to say "he did good", another asshole.
Again I say job well done...........

I am so ashamed dinner is baked chicken once again organic frozen mac and cheese and carrots. I wish I had the energy to actually think about what I cook and not just go with the easy favorites.
-
I am so ashamed I'm not even going to tell you what dinner was today
So ladies ... when is the next hockey game? And will this all turn into a fight that makes politics look tame by comparison

ducky- to me, when we post differing opinions and nobody is *destroyed* for having a different opinion that is this forum at its best. Grownups talking about how they feel. Nobody necessarily wrong or right, nor scared to say how they really feel. It makes me proud to be part of all of you...CLAPPING FOR THE HARMONY (ok..this is where we can sing kumbaya:)

Lightning Vs Caps - GO LIGHTNING !
And Rays Vs Jays. Go RAYS !! -
Switching back and forth on TV. Dinner was leftover chicken baked potato and spinach.

My DD is taking me to the Opera on Saturday. La Cenerentola (Cinderella) by Rossini (in Italian). I'll have to put Jim in my back pocket for the night but I'm sure he would have loved the opera. There's one tune Albinoni Adagio that he used as a backdrop to his poetry.

On a more practical issue. My Toy Fox Terrier, sheds all the time. It is driving me nuts because I have dark hardwood floors. How can such a tiny dog lose so much fur? Any advice?
-
Blue -- Paint the floors white. Too drastic? Shave Virgil. Still too drastic? Okay then, just be grateful you have lovely floors and a healthy dog
.
Go JAYS! (Tied 1-1, top of the 4th)
-
Update; 2-1! Go JAYS!
-
I agree with Linda about shaving Virgil. NOT about the Jays. Go Rays!!!!

Hahahahah.....you guys crack me up!
Sorry Barbara, gotta go with the Jays on this one! GO JAYS!
-
Aww Blue -- he's just spreading the love around. I want to give him a big kiss on his forehead, tickle his ears.
GO CANUCKS! Come to me Roberto! I'll give you ice cream.
-
KK He is so lovable. Gives me kisses on demand and cuddles right up beside me under a pillow. Lilah loves to sleep on my lap.
-
Blue, your precious pups are adorable but I know what you mean by the hair, especially on dark floors. I have a cockerspaniel cross and a shitzu. One sheds like crazy and the other doesn't but my shitzu has teeth problems so I am anticipating a big quote from the vet...darn because that will cut into my vacation fund.
I am out of the loop on the baseball front...embarassed to say that I didn't even know that the baseball season started. But I concur....Go Jays!
Annette: Kumbaya! Good post -
Lilah looks so soft. So sweet. Please give her lots of kisses and ear scratches too for me. What would we do without our furbabies.
-
She's more a cat than a dog. I will do that but hoping you might be able to do that yourself if you're ever in the vicinity.
Pickle, my shih tzu is no problem either. Lovely breed of dog.
-
Hockey? What hockey? Grrrrr...
The Caps are killing me!
-
...and the Jays lost by a home run, bottom of the 9th. Grrrr indeed!
Edited to add: Annette -- I agree wholeheartedly with your sentiments! You may have noticed that Pickle and I had some opposing views about our election here -- but I am SO happy she posts on this thread! Hugs, Pickle!

Blue: You are so fortunate to be able to hear La Cenerentola by Rossini. It doesn't seem to be as popular in the States as his Barber of Seville and I have never had the chance to see and hear it. Would you mind letting me know who are the singers doing it? Opera was my passion and my life for many years but have not been able to go to one for quite a while. I am so excited you will be. Please let me know if it was a great performance! What a wonderful DD you must have to be taking you to the opera. Sure brings back such great memories for me. Have a great time!
-
Sorry, E. Sorry Linda and Blue. Looks like a good night was had by all in Tampa Bay!
-
that is great Lindasa....I know I am not always right but I am never wrong (roflmao).....
-
Medipal, take a look!
-
Oooh, I love opera too. When I lived in DC I subscribed to the Washington Opera. We had tickets in the loge boxes and I saw so many wonderful performances and singers. I think my all time favorite was Samuel Ramey in Mephistopheles. Wow. Domingo and Pavarotti were also awesome. And Renata Scotto. Whew, so many great singers. Pavarotti did a recital with Vladmir Ashkenazi and Itzhak Perlman as his accompianists. Wow.
-
I love Ashkenazi! Opera, not so much.
I'm not even going to mention the "H" word.
-
Some people still insist that Bush gets alllll the credit for the bin Laden kill. I'm sure that tide will turn if there's retaliation.
Honestly, can people get any more hateful and/or racist?

Just a reminder - this is Teacher Appreciation Week! Hug a teacher! :-)
