I say yes, you say no, OR People are Strange

Nope. E, Lightning. My tarot reader said so.
-
Hahaha! The Lightning are pretty scrappy, so maybe they will. :-)
-
Some people consider it rude to have a conversation which others can't understand, Sort of like being the only person in the room who doesn't understand English. Since all of you suffered through the NCAA tourney with us basketball nuts, you get a free pass. GO CATS!!
-
I'll translate. Hockey language can be summed up in two words.....HABS RULE!
-
Allison, the NHL doesn't have any felines! It only has birds (Black Hawks, Red Wings, Penguins, Ducks, Flyers), animals (Coyotes), politicians (Senators, Capitals), trees (Leafs), and other descriptive teams such as Canucks, Lightning, Flames, Oilers, Thrashers, Devils, Rangers, Blues, Bruins........and HABS.
There, fixed it for you...all you need to know!
Oh, and with any luck, they'll all be out on the golf course by the middle of June!
-
Wouldn't Bruins fall into the animal category? And the Devils into the politicians category? ;-)
-
And the Haute Couture category - Blue Jackets.
-
I thought the Blue Jackets were bugs?
Sorry folks, I did forget a few -- Panthers and Wild (animals), weather problems (Hurricanes and Avalanche), fish (Sharks), Trump-like egotists (Stars, Kings), weaponry (Sabres) and, wait for it....more politicians (Predators).
There, that should do it!
-
One thing's for sure - you all are a lot nuttier that BB fans.
-
I'm taking that as a compliment, Allison!
-
Definitely!
-
GO HABS!!
I cannot believe how many Habs fans are on this thread! (I am politely ignoring the Lightening and Bruins fans--KK how could you???) LOL!
The Habs have to win to stay in the play-offs. It will be crazy in Montreal tonight. My hubby is going to the game. I have to watch it on TV...oh well...
Also, I am THRILLED that the NDP may trounce the Bloc. Oh please let it be so! I would love to see the Bloc decimated in Quebec.
-
I know, I'm a bad Canuck. I was brainwashed as a child and more while I lived in Boston. But I will root for the Habs if they win this series. It will be wild in Mtl - your DH is so lucky to actually be there at the game! OK, GO HABS!
-
Yay! The NDP is doing great in Quebec! It's going to be a very interesting election!
-
Shirley: Your post gave me a laugh especially your toilet habits. However, I don't think your living habits were mainly brought on by higher gas prices. I think you must have been raised by parents who came out of the Depression like mine did and we all learned a certain way to live. My DP was raised by younger parents and it seemed he was not as well trained in certain habits as I was. We had a lot of fights over "How DARE you flush for just a wee wee!" I won of course and now we proudly have yellow toilets even in our apartment! He had to learn a lot of money saving habits from me but is better off today for it. I refused to marry him unless he gave me full control of ALL finances. His job was to work all day and mine was to make miracles out of the small paychecks he brought home. We both did out jobs well! But it takes perserverance and cooperation on both parts to be frugal. I wonder if the younger generation will ever get used to living life as we did. The best thing my mom ever did for me was to teach me never to buy anything unless it was on sale and never buy anything unless you can pay cash for it! That included all the "new" cars we got! If you can't afford it, don't buy it, is my motto!
-
Medigal, have you heard this one? (It was posted on our cottage wall):
If it's yellow, let it mellow.
If it's brown, flush it down!
Covert: Guess I'm going to have to do the patriotic thing and watch the HABS tonight!
-
Lindasa: Nope, I haven't but it seemed to be embedded in my subconscious everytime I entered a restroom. Brown "always" got flushed down no matter how poor one was. BUT, the worse experience was having to use a real "Outhouse" when we visited relatives in the country! I was terrified a snake was hidden in all the mess and I would rather do it unladylike in the woods than sit on that wooded seat from Hell! I got to live to see my dear aunt actually have a real toilet put inside her little country cottage before she passed away! That was a proud day for her and "me" too!
Mama used to have to carry pots of hot water she would boil to the tub so we could take baths. I never had hot and cold running water until I was almost 20! Most younger ladies reading this must think I lived in the getto but it was a way of life for many of us before "modern" inventions like "water heaters" etc. could be afforded by the many. Poor mama must have had the strongest back ever to live the life she did but she still managed to make it as easy as possible for her kids. It's what good moms do, you know.
-
Sorry, but eeewwww! Why not go with a low-flush or something to take up space in your tank instead? (I'm very frugal BTW, but there's no way I'd want someone else's pee splashing back on me!)
-
Pee is sterile...just sayin'....
-
Ladies! We don't have a sign by our toilets saying "don't flush pee"!! We certainly expect our civilized pre-Great Depression Era folks to flush whatever they do in our toilets except the no-nos etc. The rules are just for family and in my family mainly for "me". No one else remembers any Depression and they flush like crazy. So this isn't the reason, I don't have many visitors. "Mi toilet es su toilet and "tu" may flushie muchas tempos" See, my Spanish is more crappy than my crap!
I assure you we may mix a lot of things in my apt but not our wee wee! Old habits die hard but I expect if I make it to 75 , I, too, will be able to flush the yellow!
-
Our saying came from boating -"In the land of sun and fun, we never flush for number one." One of my Dear Dad's sayings - he had a million of them!
-
Medigal, you've got me nodding in agreement and laughing with memories.
Brown always gets flushed, but yellow, just every few times unless somebody is coming over. Why not save some water? I've never had a "splash back" problem so I'll continue on. You also brought back my memories of visiting my great grandma's farm when I was a kid. We got there in the evening and before I went to bed great grandma gave me a slop jar. I had no idea what it was for - you don't want to go out to the outhouse in the dark unless you really HAVE to. Then in the morning I was told to watch out for copperheads when I went out. Once again I didn't know what a copperhead was - I was really young this first time. I couldn't decide if the farm was a great adventure or just gross and scary. I ended up picking adventure.
Also I won't say I'm tight but my daughters were over recently and one of them noticed my toothpaste tube and said, "boy mom sure uses a tube till it's empty." I told her that I paid for all of it I was going to use every darned bit I could.
-
Ah memories! We still have my mom's wringer washer in our basement...can't seem to part with it. I remember sticking my hand in the wringer as my mom was telling me not to stick my hand in the ringer....didn't break a bone or anything and it went all the way to my elbow!
-
River-rat: Glad to be able to exchange memories even if some I would rather forget! As for the toothpaste, (I am so glad I don't let my DP know how to find this group), when it gets real low, I just suck it out and save what's left for him. Hey! Men do lots grossier things than suck toothpaste (yucky!!!) so what he doesn't know extends how soon I have to open a new tube. What's more togetherness than using toothpaste that your beloved has already sucked on?
I tell you the gals who were raised by moms who missed the Great "D" must all be broke today! For example my DD who likes to spend money like she really has it just bought a new $35 kitchen garbage can. My can cost $6.00! So I told her I would take her old one. Now I have two garbage cans in a kitchen the size of a closet but at least if anyone ever visits me, I can show off my new old $35 can! I can't stand waste! DD is an example of a DD who could not be trained to follow in my financial footsteps. She must flush her toilet even if she "doesn't" use it! I have to go admire my kitchen trash can once I get it cleaned. Back later.
-
Medigal, you make me laugh.
No, my mom didn't tell me I couldn't flush. I had three brothers. I think I became "water conscious" and just started not flushing each time. Even a conservative likes to conserve.
My three DD...well, at least two of the...have no problem flushing every time. I don't know about the youngest. She's in Chicago and before she and her DH came back home for good they were in Africa. So, I doubt she flushes each and every time..LOL I mean they did NOT live in luxury. They had to have the Land Rover they bought from the UK completely "overhauled" to suit their needs.
Their website is very interesting if anyone wants to look at it. If you do, and when you enter their site, look to the left and you'll see things to click onto. Click on videos and then "Cameroon Impassable - 18.8 mb Join us as we take on one of Africa's worst roads. The final 4 kilometers took 6 days!" Although I knew they were safe when I watched the video my heart skipped beats and I cried. Silly? LOL They were there for about 2 1/2 years. The website is http://www.taleoftwotravelers.com/home.html
Now back to our old days...my grandmother didn't have an "icebox", toilet, tub, enough beds or electricity. We took baths in the wash tub...that was sooooooo fun. We used oil lanterns at night...like Little House on the Prairie. We slept on featherbeds....oh so fun. What wonderful memories. As far as our family...we had indoor plumbing but I can remember getting huge blocks of ice from the ice man for our icebox and loving a junk of the ice. We ran around barefoot...never let my kids do that outdoors. We played and rode bikes...I didn't have one so I used my friend's. Anyway, those were fun days and candy was cheap and soft drinks were cheap. However, it was a TREAT when we bought one.
I need to get my behind off of here and put a pizza in the oven....it's late...dear poor husband.

WOOHOO!! Habs win! On to game 7 in Boston.
KK, I forgive you
Linda, I see we converted you! You are now a Habs fan!

Hi Ladies,
I am one of those lovely "lurkers" - I do enjoy a great debate, even if I'm just listening in!
Found an interesting article on Forbes.com - now, don't shudder in fear. I was quite surprised to see Forbes publish something so positive about those "awful" socialist countries...

Shirley: Thanks for sharing the adventures of your "those were the days" life. I have been off the net to watch a bit of tv and now according to DP it's bedtime (after 10 PM EST means tv off and "old" people go to bed). Since I refuse to be "old" he has his own bedroom and I stay up as long as I want in my own room. However, the computer is in our living room and I can't use it in the dark without lights!! So I will save the adventures of your DD and her DH in Africa to enjoy tomorrow. Sounds like your girls have exciting lives. Thanks for sharing. Have a good night!

The Vermont Senate Passes Bill Establishing A Single Payer Health Care System In The State
As ThinkProgress previously reported, the Vermont legislature, led by Gov. Peter Shumlin (D), has been considering a proposal to establish some sort of single payer health care system — a system in which a single public insurer provides health insurance to all state residents, similar to the Medicare system for American seniors.
Last month, the Vermont House of Representatives voted 92-49 to advance a bill that would create a single payer system in the state. Now, the Vermont Senate has followed suit, voting 21-9 for the bill:
The Vermont Senate gave final approval to health care reform legislation Tuesday. The vote came after lengthy debate on amendments– many of them aimed at making the bill more palatable for businesses. Republicans introduced several amendments that they say would reduce the costs for businesses. But the strong Democratic majority easily rejected those amendments. [...] The bill passed 21-9.
Now that the bill has passed both the House of Representatives and Senate, it will move to a conference committee to reconcile the two versions of the bill. It will then go to the desk of Gov. Peter Shumlin (D), who strongly supports the bill. Shumlin has said that it will make Vermont the first state where “health care will be a right and not a privilege.”
A bigger hurdle Vermont faces is obtaining a waiver from the federal health care reform act and finding a way around federal ERISA laws — which “pre-empt states from enacting legislation if it is ‘related to’ employee benefit plans” –- that insurers could use to sue the state. The health reform law currently offers a waiver to states who meet certain standards by 2017. Rep. Peter Welch (D-VT) has introduced an amendment that would move the waiver date up to 2014 — an idea that President Obama has endorsed.
