I have 2 new bag of salt t throw on the nasty white stuff. Well, snow melts but I don't...I still hate winter.
-
Most large grocery chains in Ontario stared charging 5 cents a bag a few years ago, simply to stop the amount of plastics going into landfill. It's rare, now, to see anyone in the grocery store without their own recyclable bags. But my newspapers all come encased in a plastic sleeve and tied so tightly that I have to tear them open -- so I can't recycle them back to the carrier.
Toronto also had a rebate plan for people buying low-flush toilets, which was very successful, but Council just cancelled the plan.
Barbara, some folks would call you a b*itch for telling us northerners your plans for the day.....but I of course would never stoop so low......
.
-
I think we should all move in with Barbara. Serve 'er right. ;-)

So far, Cesar (sp?) hasn't addressed a dog who eats vaseline, chocolate-covered espresso beans, her own poo, blankets, 3 pounds of halloween candy, vertical blinds, dirt, sofas, and wads of random dead animals. I'm sure it's a psychological thing related to her puppyhood (animal control found her scrounging in a dumpster and turned her over to a hound rescue), but good grief.
My guinea pig doesn't do that. *muttering about world-destroying dogs*

Are you sure she's not part goat? Have you checked for horn buds?
What exactly is it that guinea pigs do do (besides doodoo)?
-
Guinea pigs make cute noises, like tribbles, and nibble on your fingers when you pick them up. They also rid the house of unwanted veggies and then sit there being fat, warm, and furry. The perfect pet.
-
You know, she does have floppy ears like a goat. Hmmmm.....
-
I think that pooch needs rehab!
-
She needs something. Other than the eating/chewing/ripping thing, she's a very sweet dog!
-
As long as she doesn't start gambling!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi all. I am peeking in from my porch in Floida. Barbara is quite right. It is absolutely beautiful here. We have driven around a NASCAR track and sat on Cocoa Beach to watch the shuttle launch. Spending lots of time walking and reading at the pool. And, of course, doing our best to boost the American economy!
I just wanted to add my two cents worth about Ceasar Milan. He has helped us do wonders with our rescue chocolate lab. His training techniques really helped. And I am quite sure that our lab IS part goat! -
I see a patch of sidewalk! The snow is melting! Victory is mine!
-
Well, too lazy to walk the 1/2 mile to the beach so I walked the 50 yards to the pool and lounged and read my kindle. It got pretty hot but NO WAY will I get in the pool until the temp is at least 85. It was about 70 today....wet suit temperature.
-
Oh, you poor thing.
-
Ther is no way I will go swimimng in the lake until it is at least 70 degrees out. Anything lower than that is cold.
-
Sheesh. I had to take notes....
Seventy degrees really is too cold for enjoyable swimming. I grew up in a north-central state where mothers toss their children out the door into a snowdrift and tell them, "I don't want to see you back on this porch until suppertime!". I took swimming lessons at the age of 7 in an unheated outdoor pool. Two weeks later, I had to miss class because of our family vacation. Good thing, because I discovered the blue color my skin had taken on was not permanent, as I had feared. Where I live now, 70-degree water is wet-suit temperature, as Barbara says.
BTW, if y'all do go down to FL to visit her, stop by my place on the way. I have her weather, minus a few degrees. It hit 80˚ today I think.
PIP, you got to see the shuttle launch??? That is so not fair! Hubs has been wanting to do that for years, but I think we've put it off for too long now. OTOH, I would be afraid that the one time we drive down there to watch it, something terrible would happen. I don't watch horse races live on TV anymore, for the same reason.
Re: dogs vs. guinea pigs. My sister had a guinea pig when we were kids. It did look and sound like a tribble most of the time (it really was cute). But, if she forgot to feed it, the darn thing would put out this shrill whistle -- kind of a high-pitched shriek -- until somebody went in and gave it some food.
She took the guinea pig out in the yard to "play" once (what was she thinking?), and it wandered off. She and I went nuts looking for it. Then we noticed our dog, lying quietly in the grass next to where the vegetable garden started. He was smiling like golden retrievers do when they know they've done something good. Sure enough, there was that darn guinea pig. It had fallen into the dead furrow at the edge of the garden. It wasn't hurt at all, but it couldn't get back out and we never would have looked there. Basically, the dog saved the guinea pig's life.
Bren, if being a grouchy, temperamental butt-head is justification for using Prozac, I probably should be on it.
The fish last night was really tasty. I used a recipe I found in a cookbook I bought in Wisconsin last summer: "100 Easy Recipes for Freshwater Fish," or something like that. I fixed fillets of white bass dh caught locally last year. Bream or largemouth bass would have been better. Maybe next time -- but I'll have to catch some first.

Talking about horses, I just finished watching "The Black Stallion".
Ray kept asking "where are the zombies".......hehe! So now we're watching a zombie movie.
Edited to add....Is anyone watching the Academy Awards tonight. I saw "The King's Speech". It was awesome.
-
Oooh - I loved The Black Stallion! Not crazy about zombies...
Two weeks til Daylight Savings Time begins!
Three weeks til the Spring Equinox!
There now, don't all we northerners feel better?
-
Yes, I am sick of all this snow. Tonight is baby back ribs, baked potatoes and steamed broccoli.
Zombie movies make me laugh!
-
I didn't realize daylight savings time started in two weeks. And that spring is in 3 weeks. It doesn't look like it outside .. but, the daffodils are coming up, so that's a good sign.
Anyone watching the Oscars tonight?
Bren
-
Oscars? Yes probably -- I do love Anne Hathaway -- she can act, she can sing, she can host (at least on SNL)! That gal has everything going for her!
-
Watch the 5th graders fom NYC sing at the oscars tonight - public school 22
-
Grilled elk steak (loin) with baked (whole) sweet potatoes and whatever hubs decides to toss in for green stuff. Not my turn, which makes it all special.
I don't know if I'll watch the Oscars. I'm not campaigning for anybody this year. I did watch the year LOTR III won it all. Besides, hubs just upgraded our DISH Network subscription (he wanted to get all those outdoor/hunting channels); and now we get all sorts of fun stuff I've never seen before.
