My daughter swears by homeopathy, but I have never really used it. Regarding the Royals, I believe they probably get the best health care available, so it would be hard to determine exactly what accounts for their robustness.

Yorkie -- Good genes, probably (once they stopped marrying their cousins from Europe's other Royal houses)!  Scientifically speaking, homeopathic medicine (so diluted the actual medicine is virtually and often literally untraceable) shouldn't work.  But then there's the whole "mind over matter" thingy going on.  If it works for Sunny and your daughter, that's all to the goodSmile.

    Sunnyflowers -

I am going to order some pure arnica gel and see if it helps with the arthritis in my thumb and the bursitis in my shoulders.  Nothing else does, and I'm the ultimate skeptic, so this will be a real test!

Speaking of skepticism, I had a lady offer to do Reiki while I was was receiving my chemotherapy.  She works for the associated breast center and walks around during the day offering treatment to patients.  Anyway, she's so nice that it would have been rude to refuse so I gave permission even though I couldn't see how it would possibly make anyone feel better.  It all looked like a bunch of hand-waving silliness to me.

Well, I felt much better afterward.  I don't know if it was the music she had me listen to, or the sense that someone wished me well, or the Reiki itself, or all three, but I repeated my experiment four more times with the same results.

So who knows what will work?  Just like standard cancer treatment, one will work on this patient but not that one.  You just have to find what's right for you.

I have my level 2 theraputic touch.  My daughter used to say it gave her relief when she was terminally ill with cancer.  My one son used to ask me to treat him when he had trouble sleeping.  I also used it in my hospice work.  I should look into a refreshers course.

It really does work.  I don't understand why, or how, but it does!

I've had Reiki done on me a couple of times.  The first time it absolutely worked - that was by a "professional" in Austin.  My husband was watching and it was much too "woo-woo" for him Laughing but it worked, so he was happy for me.  The next two times it was done by a lady here at work.  It could be that the whole atmosphere was just too weird for me - but I didn't feel like it worked.  I don't recall what level she is.

In regard to homeopathy, I've no idea whether it always works or not, but I absolutely swear by arnica, as it has given me a lot of relief.  My husband - who is a COMPLETE skeptic - actually asks me to put it on his back now, as it gives him relief as well.  I never tried the pellets until this week, and I'm ready to swear by them as well.  I haven't tried any other form of homeopathy.

I've used Chinese herbs.  They helped my allergies, but stunk up the house so much my husband asked me to stop using 'em, so I did.  They also made me a little hyper.

yorkiemom - I LOL'd when I read "when the Repub party went crazy." Seriously, though, what happened to them? I'd love to hear more from the "Rockefeller Republicans," but all we're hearing are the fringe of the party - at tea kettle decibels.

SunflowersMA - Good point about Clinton.  "Not one of us" is definitely true as he did not come from money like presidents prior. Now, Obama being half black, raised by a single mom, spending part of his childhood in a predominantly Muslim country? I'm pretty sure their collective heads exploded after that one. Wink

The way I've been using the arnica gel most often is when I BUMP into something, or accidently wack my hand on a door, cabinet, whatever - if I use it immediately, don't get a black & blue mark, also prevents swelling.

Won't "defend" homeopathy cuz it sounds too much like trying to convince someone, just SO grateful I've found many things about it work for me.  Don't know about the dilutions. The Chinese medicine I use is in PILL form - no teas or boiling herbs in water.  Just pills - so no smell.

Blue Poppy Originals Aller-ease is what has been helping me avoid all the antihistamine I used to use.  Allergy season is early this year around here cuz of wonky weather.  It's 50 here today.  This is REALLY strange.

C4C, I really do believe in mind over matter, or, as I prefer to call it, the power of positive, and negative, thinking. I have seen examples of both, including getting cancer after the most stressful and painful 5 years of my life. :-(

GGG, my parents definitely were Rockefeller Republicans. But the Repub push to the far right turned them completely off. I think my mom had a big crush on Clinton! They both voted for him twice, as well as for Gore and Kerry.

According to the Society of Homeopaths website:

Homeopathy is a system of medicine which involves treating the individual with highly diluted substances, given mainly in tablet form, with the aim of triggering the body’s natural system of healing. Based on their specific symptoms, a homeopath will match the most appropriate medicine to each patient.

There was a CBC programme some time ago which examined a few purveyors of supposed homeopathic remedies.  They found absolutely no trace of the substances purported to remedy several specific ailments.  I've since read several articles about it. Then just last week I listened to an NPR programme which essentially said the same thing.  I think there is far too much opportunity for scammers. Thus my skepticism!  But this is why I also can agree with the whole mind over matter thing, because for some, such as Yorkie's daughter, it works.

Prince Charles wanted homeopathy to continue to be added to the list of treatments covered by the UK's National Health Service.  Latest estimate is that the NHS spends about 4 million pounds/yr on homeopathic tx. The NHS is strongly considering discontinuing this support.  (Edited by me upon further reading).

GGG:  Obama is the best looking President (and possibly also the smartest, although I defer to Clinton in that respect) in a long time.  Tall, dark, handsome and easily crush-material!!!

I also agree Sandy......whatever gets you better.  I also had the thought --- is ALL homopathic  in the mildest possible form.  Thinking maybe the Royals ( though I'm quite sure they get outstanding medical attentions anyway ) have an in to a parmacology lab where some of the really "good" ingredients can be upped by a small margin.

I do recall many things that I was given as a child.....hard to find some of them now, but they all worked wonders.....I'll try to list a couple but the spelling will likely be off.  Ascorbine Junior or something like that.  Had a strange smell but worked so well on anything itchy.  Murcurchome...used for cuts mainly....burned like the dickens, but killed all the nasty germs.  Gential Violet ( purple stuff --- used on bad tonsils  I think.  Of course, there was always the little bit of whiskey, lemon juice and honey.....for a really bad cold.

Still, bottom like is.....what gets you on your feet again in a good way.

This gives a bit of insight in how terribly far down and afield the Republican party has gotten.

Jackie -- I remember Absorbine Junior (smelled awful!), mercurachrome (didn't sting, unlike iodine) and Gentian Violet.  I remember having a small spot of ringworm once and my father purchased diluted Ferric Chloride from the pharmacist, and that was dabbed on morning and night.  Got rid of it pretty quickly, as I recall!  And those were the days when pharmacists actually mixed those concoctions themselves.

From what I can see, the Regressives want to "take their country back"  -- way back......Frown

I took a Reiki 2 day workshop and got the worst headache of my life after day one.  I'll forever associate the two.

I don't think the idea of homeopathy is to get medicinal levels.  Follows that which causes cures principle?

I was once presented with a thing called Grandeur water  http://www.grander.com.au/  Who would think that stirring a metal stick, with some of this Grandeur water in it, would change the characteristics of the water it is stirred in.  I was in Noosa, Queensland at the time.  They had very hard water and soap would just stick on my hands.  I used the Grandeur water stick to stir in a pot of water.  That Grandeurized water took the soap right off my hands.  Very subtle, but effective.  It started to open my mind to alternative possibilities, though I tend to still brush them off.

I found the same link on the Tribute to Athena thread - http://karenandkurt.webs.com/apps/blog/entries/show/31855102-pamela-mercer-reporter-and-friend and it is hard to read, but you'll want to.

I too looked for the information in the Washington Post - but our VERY PRIVATE Lioness, managed again, to stay under the "radar."  Damn, I miss her.

Enjoyful - hope you're having a good day.  Still can't believe some of my most repsected/admired friends are still trying to teach frogs to singTongue Out  I prefer Blue lines, and NEVER read junky gratitutious violence...so easy to ignore one you know where it is.....

Juliaanna, thanks for finding/posting the remembrance of Pamela.  It's comforting, in a weird way, to learn new things about someone who's gone and catch glimpses of other aspects of their life.  Or maybe not so weird - I guess that's a big part of any funeral gathering.
