This might even be good exercise but the video is hilarious

Wasn't Jackie Kennedy a beautiful woman, though?
So... we put an offer in on another house last night. Again, found two we like on the same day. What's with that, anyhow.... so frustrating. Anyway, this one is a Fannie Mae repo. A rambler - one floor - no steps!!!! hurrah!!! Nice deck, private back yard, 2 blocks from the beach (and a park) in one direction and about 1/3 mile from a lake and walking park in another direction. Trader Joe's and Fred Meyer are both relatively close (within 5 minutes) - Costco is about 7 miles. Really hope we get it - so think good thoughts for us. Also, a totally crappy commute, so a good reason to tell my employer that I is retiring...
It's a little bigger than we had planned on, but as we were shopping we realized that large rooms are rather nice to have. -
GG - fingers crossed and good thoughts going out for you.

Hi Guys,
Sorry to keep harping on this issue .. but I had another tick on me this morning. It came off my dog Maggie and jumped on my hand. I did have a chance to ID it before I killed it. It's a dog tick ... small, brown/black and fast moving. I just put the Frontline on the dogs last week. It doesn't seem to be working. At least I know they aren't coming in on me.
Saw my first turtle of the season today. She was beautiful .. brown and yellow and about the size of your fist. The honeysuckle, mountain laurel and wild roses are blooming now ... it smelled heavenly on our walk to day.
Jackie .. the picture of Jackie Kennedy is lovely. Such a beautiful wedding dress.
Gumby .. hope things work out for you. Sometimes those repo's can take a long time to get through escrow.
Blue .. hope your realignment is going better today and the pain isn't as great.
hugs,
Bren

GG...amazing how it works out in the end. You would have just been settling if the other house went through. This one sounds amazing. I hope it all works out for you. It's hard to be stuck in transition for so long without a vision of the where you will be. Fingers crossed for you.
-
Bren ... unfortunately for you, it sounds like the Frontline IS working. It is sending the ticks fleeing from the dogs and looking for another victim. Maybe we need something like that for people.
GG ... good luck on the house! You sound much more positive about this one ... maybe it is 'the one' meant for you. The location sounds excellent!
-
Wabbit ... Looking for the "like" button. Damn ticks.
hugs,
Bren

For our Libby ... who gets liberated today. Happy Retirement!
-
Congrats Libby!
-
GG - great. Love the idea of the beach and parks, but Trader Joe's very important! Sounds like you can do a lot of nice walking in this area.
HL - Last day of work!! Fantastic. Time to really focus on the things you want to do!
Jackie - beautiful picture of our Jackie Kennedy.
-
HL - Congratulations! Wow, it finally got here. Now take a deep breath and enjoy the freedom to set your own schedule, or dive right in without a schedule.

They Walk Among Us and Many Work Retail
I was at the checkout of a K-Mart. The cashier rang up $46.64 charges. I gave her a
fifty dollar bill. She gave me back $46.64. I gave the money back to her and told her that she had made a mistake in MY favor.
She became indignant and informed me she was educated and knew what she was doing, and returned the money again. I gave her the money back same scenario!
I left the store with the $46.64.
They Walk Among Us and Many Work Retail
I walked into a Starbucks with a buy-one-get- one-free coupon for a Grande Latte.
I handed it to the girl and she looked over at a little chalkboard that said 'buy one-get one free.' 'They're already buy-one- get-one-free, ' she said, 'so I guess they're both free'.
She handed me my free Lattes and I walked out the door.
They Walk Among Us!
One day I was walking down the beach with some friends when one of them shouted,
'Look at that dead bird!' One of the group looked up at the sky and said, 'Where?'
They Walk Among Us!
While looking at a house, my brother asked the real estate agent which direction was north because, he explained, he didn't want the sun waking him up every morning.
She asked, 'Does the sun rise in the North?. When my brother explained that the sun rises in the East, and has for some time, she shook her head and said,
'Oh I don't keep up with all that stuff.'
They Walk Among Us!!
I used to work in technical support for a 24/7 call center. One day I got a call from an individual who asked what hours the call center was open. I told him, 'The number you dialed is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.' He responded, 'Is that Eastern or Pacific time?' Wanting to end the call quickly,
I said, 'Uh, Pacific.'
They Walk Among Us!
My sister has a lifesaving tool in her car designed to cut through a seat belt if she gets trapped. She keeps it in the trunk.
They Walk Among Us and May Even Be A Relative!
My friends and I went out to buy beer and noticed that the cases were discounted 10%. Since it was a big party, we bought 2 cases. The cashier multiplied 2 times 10% and gave us a 20% discount.
They Walk Among Us!
I couldn't find my luggage at the airport baggage area, so I went to the lost luggage office and told the woman there that my bags never showed up. She smiled and told me not to worry because she was a trained professional and I was in good hands. 'Now,' she asked me, has your plane arrived yet?'
They Walk Among Us!
While working at a pizza place I observed a man ordering a small pizza to go. He appeared to be alone and the cook asked him if he would like it cut into 4 pieces or 6. He thought about it for some time before responding. 'Just cut it into 4 pieces; I don't think I'm hungry enough
to eat 6 pieces.'

I think I have this problem too!

Congratulations Libby ... you earned it!
I hope you enjoy retirement, and start off with some travels to SW Virginia!
love you,
Bren

YEAH, Libby - PLAY, PLAY, PLAY
"Happy days are here again, the sky above is blue again..."GG - more crossed fingers for your house, becoming your home.
Bren - giggling with you, YES, the tick spray is definitely working for your furry friends.
OK, I just read this on the WashPost, and the reaction it is receiving really does make me cry, not wanna cry, but cry. Could that little girl be any more beautiful? And happy: damn, wish sometimes I could change the world but know it ain't gonna happen - glad the company is STAYING WITH THE BEAUTIFUL HEART WARMING AD:
I don't eat cereal, but makes me wanna BUY Cheerios!
-
I always did like Cheerios. Thanks everyone - we are keeping our fingers and toes crossed. Hubby is SOOO tired of looking (as am I, but he's taken the brunt of it).
Sun - they said that we have to close in like 37 days (if our offer is accepted) - so I'm hoping that things will flow fairly smoothly. I work with a man who bought a Fannie Mae house just a month or so ago and it went really smoothly. Short sales (I understand) are the ones that take forever....
Libby - Happy happy happy day for you.
Retirement for me is now 5 months away.....
-
I'm buying Cheerios tomorrow!

Thanks for all the good wishes, ladies! When I get to the PC later this evening (I'm on the iPad right now), I will post the surprise DH had for me at the breakfast table this morning -- and the surprises I came home to tonight.
When I was 3 and 4, I DESPERATELY wanted to go to school - so much so that one day when I was 4, I followed the big kids to school, found the kindergarten, went in and sat down. The teacher counted and came up with one more than she was supposed to have. She called the roll, and identified me as the "extra." The school called my mom to come and get me, and thereafter I had to be watched at school-going time. When I was old enough to be registered for kindergarten, my mother took me up on the first day. We walked up the many, many steps to the front of the school where the registration tables were. We stopped in front of the proper one and I looked at the registration lady and said, "AT LAST! I finally made it!" Everyone within earshot laughed.
So, I can say today, 51 years later, I can say again: "AT LAST!! I FINALLY MADE IT!!"
And, of course, I am becoming a complete parasite on society, sucking down taxpayers' hard-earned cash just for getting up in the morning. :-D A bargain at twice the price!
GG, congrats on the better-sounding house prospect ... Good things came to she who waited! Fingers crossed the inspection doesn't find any unpleasant surprises.
Life is good. I am now going to eat the Reese's bar DH gave me for breakfast. Pix follow!

That kindergarten story is just too cute for words!! Free at last, yeah, reese's peanut butter cups, sleeping in, staying in PJ's, shopping at Costco on a Tuesday (not the first of the month - my advice). Wonderful!!
-
Writing on this first page so I don't forget......Frontline.....quit working in my neck of the woods a couple of years ago. Vets are still selling it......greedy I guess or too much in stock.
We switched to Avantage Plus and it does super.
GG.....lots of heavy-duty vibes that this HOUSE is NOW the ONE.
Gotta run....I'll finish reading when I get home.
Jackie

Happy retirment Libby!!! ENJOY!!!
Hooray - we now have 10 times the internet allowance - we will never run out agian!!! I finally upgraded my plan after being on 5gig a month forever. Now on 50gig for only $11 a month more. The last few days have been painful as we had been slowed down due to using up all the allowance - it was great to have our speed back this morning.
Cleaned the pool and rolled out the cover again. I'd left it off for a couple of weeks after cleaning it - I hate it. Trying to save up for a better cover (a mesh one) - I only need $1800 - it might take a few months.
-
Oh HL so happy for you - enjoy!
Love, S.

-
Sandy, how are you? You are so quiet.

Hi all,
Been running around today like a maniac. Checking on contractors at MIL's house, getting it into shape to sell. Went to see my Dad around noon. He had a bad cough so called the doctor and had to run antibiotics out to him. Not much chance to write or do anything else.
Congrats on retiring, Libby.
Anyway, wanted to share this. My MIL's story on NPR - with some comments by my DH.

Congrats, HL! I bet they are sorry to lose you. We need more dedicated public servants like you.
Recovery going sloooowwly. As many reasons as there are to be sorrowful at being a condemned woman, a few good ones do show up from time to time for a good laugh - worth starting a blog or thread on, IMO. Can't get into detail, but yesterday I got a missive and said to myself "Boy am I glad to don't have to see more of those."
Lots of reading to catch up on. Adorable little rabbits, Blue....
-
Athena! How wonderful to see you! Take it very, VERY easy in recovery ... remember, slow and steady wins the race. Let the cheetahs burn out -- you are in this for the long haul!
Here is the breakfast table surprise DH had waiting for me this morning:

And here are the surprises he had waiting on me after he picked me up at work and brought me home this afternoon:

A retirement banner on the windows over our deck, and retirement danglies from the ceiling fan in the bedroom! He knows how to show a girl a good time!
