Blue -- Cute story about Casa Loma:  Several years ago, my DH's best friend was picking up a new girlfriend at the Toronto airport.  He drove her back into the city, and pulled up into the driveway of Casa Loma and said to her "Welcome home"!  Her jaw dropped, then he said "Just kidding" and drove  her to his more humble abode a couple of blocks away.   And no, she wasn't prepared to make a life with a practical joker, and flew back to NYC, never to be heard from againTongue Out.

One unboyfriend, three non-scandels, what's this world coming to?  I can hardly keep up with this thread, but it was so nice to see Athena posting.

Love the graphics Jackie and always enjoy your pics Blue.  Libby, love your take on the federal government.  I always have to laugh when someone blames the POTUS for the action of some low-level Fed, or even an internal investigation within one department in one agency.

I've been busy reading Angelina Jolie threads, being brca myself.  Surprised not much commentary here, but then, we live in our own little brca world.  Very appreciative for her openess about this subject of PBMX.

This is copied from a facebook page titled "Ayn Rand Collected Social Security". I thought it was very well put-many of the same questions I have had regarding people who continue to vote republicans into office.

    "Hey Dad,
Could you tell me again why you’re Republican? Why you vote for Republicans who vote to:

BUST UNIONS --YOU were in a union for close to twenty years, weren't you?

CUT SALARIES AND PENSIONS – (but vote for raises for themselves) – YOU had a very nice salary and pension! Lived in a nice house with nice cars in the driveway and a swimming pool. You didn't even have to go to college. Took vacations all over the world. I went to college but make a third of what you did. I take pay cuts and staycations. My car is old and I’m losing my house.

CUT SOCIAL SECURITY FOR ME -but YOU still get yours-I wonder how long I’ll be able to live with no job and no social security- wish me luck. I know you only want the best for me.

STOP OBAMACARE –I guess if you don’t have a job or a bunch of money you don’t deserve to live. I have to pay a fortune for health insurance and those people YOU vote for are paying only $8 and change a month for theirs – and what about that pre-existing condition of yours?

GIVE TAX BREAKS TO CORPORATIONS & THE WEALTHIEST AMERICANS (who stash the dough overseas to avoid paying taxes on it) but cut funding for schools, libraries, parks, and after school care creating more latchkey kids and putting more kids at risk. The Boys and Girls Club was there for YOU when you were a poor kid with a working mom.

ALLOW MORE CORPORATIONS TO SEND JOBS OVERSEAS then cut unemployment benefits and make it more and more difficult to collect in the first place.

PRIVATIZE HOSPITALS, SCHOOLS, and PRISONS so profit comes before people from the cradle to the grave—I thought YOU wanted only the best for your kids (and grandkids)
None of this is in either of OUR best interests. So could you tell me again why YOU still vote for Republicans? I can’t help but wonder about the enormous difference between YOU and I. Why is it YOU are entitled to so much and I, so little…
    K.D."

One morning the husband returns after several hours of fishing and decides to take a nap. Although not familiar with the lake, the wife decides to take the boat out. She motors out a short distance, anchors, and reads her book.

Along comes a Game Warden in his boat. He pulls up alongside the woman and says, "Good morning, Ma'am. What are you doing?"

"Reading a book," she replies, (thinking, "Isn't that obvious?")
"You're in a Restricted Fishing Area," he informs her.
"I'm sorry, officer, but I'm not fishing. I'm reading."
"Yes, but you have all the equipment. For all I know you could start
at any moment. I'll have to take you in and write you up."

"If you do that, I'll have to charge you with sexual assault," says the woman.

"But I haven't even touched you," says the game warden.
"That's true, but you have all the equipment. For all I know you could start at any moment."

"Have a nice day ma'am," and he left.

MORAL: Never argue with a woman who reads. It's likely she can also think

Sad, Blue.  So sad it could be true.

In other news, my daughter is adopting a dog next Thursday.  That means that I am adopting the dog since my daughter will be gone all summer.  *headdesk*  Oh, and I get to keep her cat, too.

Hope everyone had a good Sunday.  Mine was productive, and I got stung by a bee.

We put an offer on a house today (along with 4 or 5 other people....).  They present the offers tomorrow.  We'll see.

GG - would love to see the house!

Blue - exactly what you said.  They've demonized our POTUS so much, they've forgotten who the real enemy is/was.

E - what if you said "NO?"Tongue Out

Kam - What silliness is this you speak?  One doesn't say NO to shelter dogs, or homeless cats, or daughters.  It just isn't done.

Too tired to post, let alone post coherently.  The fact that I'm insane doesn't help, so I'm off to rest my back!

Some day I will figure out how to use my voice recognition program, but again, I'm insane, soooooooooooooooooo.  I used to have fat cats for breakfast just using my vocabulary.

E - I just went through an event with a good friend and her grown daughter getting a dog.  She lived in an apartment, student full time, single...I guess the dog disturbed the whole apartment building due to his anxiety when the daughter was at school.  Ofcourse, she had bonded, but eventually found a wonderful home, with visitation rights, without having to take him back to the Humane Society.  I just think about young adults adopting animals that they aren't quite ready to take on, getting attached, then having to give them up.  That's all.  If you are able and willing to be grandma, then I'm all for it!!  I had a dog once as a recent college graduate.  I realized then, being a dog owner might be like being a parent...more responsibility than I ever thought I should take on as a mobile post-grad without a home.  It's a conundrum, though, with so many "unwanted" animals.

Good luck with the house offer Gardengumby!

E isn't kidding anybody ... she WANTS that dog and the cat too!  And we want pictures ASAP.

My computer modem has just about died.  It's been not working for most of the night but suddenly finally made a connection.  Was having withdrawal pains from lack of access.  New modem purchase in on the agenda for tomorrow.

GardenGumby - good luck with offer, hope you included a letter about why you are the PERFECT people to take good care of their home - there are a few "bidding wars" in house sales in this area now too. So tense...

E- bees!  Bee careful - specially with whatever meds you're taking - happy being a cat/dog granny.

Blue - insane?  Anybody else ADORE The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe, when Trudy ( the bag lady) speaks about "trying reality, but as a life style she found it too confining.  It just wanted her to be there for it all the time."  Ya gotta read that book - it's the script for the play, also a marvelous video too - good laughs.

Hope everyone has read the nice words from the Moderators - ignore, ignore, ignore.  There is some strange misconception that we have an obligation to listen to what we feel so deeply is wrong- and be "open to discussing" those misconceptions - no thanks. Also don't want to spend any energy trying to teach a frog/pig to sing.

Much rather play it forward, help others with what I've learned from my experience - and enjoy the company of women I deeply RESPECT, admire, enjoy, and learn so much from - THANK YOU ALL.  Have a sunny day.

Tornadoes are horrifying.  I read of one death and I pray there aren't more.

Sunny, my body has always laughed at bee stings.  Within a few hours there was only the tiniest pink mark to show that a bee had even approached me.  Mosquitoes, on the other hand, leave bloody welts the size of small cities on my body.  I even name them.

Good morning, all.  I hope everyone in the path of the tornadoes and bad storms stayed safe.

Oh, E - that's good to hear.  My body does not like bee stingsUndecided I still remember picking up a shovel, and finding a bee making a hole in the top of the wooden handle was, ah, well, disturbed, almost squooshed, but alive enough to STING. Whoaa.....still didn't convince me to use gardening gloves, but gave me pause ( paws?) - now it's just these pesky black flies, which seem to thrive for about a month in this area - and for such little, little, little things - they leave HUGE WELTS - hurt, and itch and as Pooh would say " OH, BOTHER."  We all wear those net horse bonnet thingies, but they still manage to find wrists, ankles - now I understand why some of my friends garden in the rain.  No black flies in the rain.

Speaking of paws - good morning to our Lioness, thinking of you, friends have been saying the cicadas are arriving.

Not even going to think about the "scandals" - even NPR is trying to make hay...so many media markets vying for ears & eyeballs, in the old days of print media, we used to call them newspapers, anybody remember them, we used to say "If it bleeds, it leads."  Now, it's if we can make it up, we'll hype it, pretend it's important and beg for attention playing the "gotcha" game...

alas, thank goodness for gardens...and sunshine....

Our most popular "news" channels aren't news at all.  Not any more.  News has disappeared under the flood of bias and politics.  And it's not just Faux News.  It's NBC and ABC and CNN and nearly every outlet.  We live in irrational times.
