I am feeling the opposite of positive at the moment, but since we are on the topic of quotations and wisdom, here is the only one that has truly moved me as a maxim:

There is a tide in the affairs of men.
    Which, taken at the flood, leads on to fortune;
Omitted, all the voyage of their life
Is bound in shallows and in miseries.
On such a full sea are we now afloat,
And we must take the current when it serves,
    Or lose our ventures.
    Julius Caesar Act 4, scene 3, 218–224

(Unfortunately this is said by Brutus in the play, but I try to ignore that - lol!)

Yes Belinda....that is definitely the one. I have lived with quotes for a very long time.  I was quite shy when I first started using BC. Org.....my very first ever attempt at blogging and if not for the fact of feeling an almost desperate need due to my diagnosis...not sure I actually would have learned or stayed with it.  Using quotes while I learned to interact was a life-saver.......and the thread I chose as my go-to daily home thread a couple of the girls really liked the quotes I used.  They ask me to find one daily and put it on the blog to start us all out in the morning on a high note.  To this day....it is one of the things I do first thing in the morning -- look for something that says a lot and hopefully is uplifting.  That is a big part of the reason I have so many entries on BC.Org.

Occasionally, someone still gets on ( usually the newer gals, but sometimes an old-timer ) and thanks me for my choice on that particular day. I don't have some of the talents others do, but that is all right.  I have a strong desire to share something that might pick someone up -- give them a reason to look at something differently or feel some inspiration.  I never needed to be praised for it, but won't deny it is a very good feeling to have someone say their step was a little lighter or their life.  So, even though I may not be as together when speaking or writing....the quotes almost always are.

I really like your quote too, Athena.  I had to read through it about three times, and then very slowly the next time.  There is a lot going on in there.

Re prayers and Muslims. I have an internet pen pal in Damascus. We have corresponded very regularly for 3-4 years by now, helping each other with our respective languages and becoming friends in the process.

My friend, M, always thanks me when I tell her I made a prayer for her in my local church. A few years back, she took a course organized by the Orthodox Church in Damascus, and the course was taught inside the cathedral. She asked me if my God would be mad that she had said her prayers in the church. I reminded her that we pray to the same God, so I couldn't really see the problem.

I know what you mean Blue! But, heck, as long as we're at peace, doesn't really matter how we got there. Right? Laughing

Another spot on article by Michael Tomasksy:

    "Deluded Republican Reformers"

"Conservative pundits’ ideas about fixing the GOP are totally meaningless, says Michael Tomasky, until they deal with the problem of their party’s rage-driven fanaticism."

".......The problem is that the party is fanatical—a machine of rage, hate, and resentment. People are free to scoff and pretend it isn’t so, but I don’t think honest people can deny that we’ve never seen anything like this in the modern history of our country. There’s a symbiosis of malevolence between the extreme parts of the GOP base and Washington lawmakers, and it is destroying the Republican Party. That’s fine with me, although I am constantly mystified as to why it’s all right with the people I’m talking about. But it’s also destroying the country and our democratic institutions and processes, which is not fine with me......."

I go to work for a few hours and come back to a lot of reading!  I love the quotes and pics.  It is always reaffirming to have a moment to reflect and take a deep breath.

We are moving my mom in with us this weekend.  I expect that all will go well, however, it will be a big change for all of us.

Maybe we should have some signal 3 or 4 times a day to make us all stop and reflect.  Smile

As someone who lives near Dearborn I don't know whether to laugh, scream or what when I read some things. So usually I just shake my head. Truly, there is no shariah law there or elsewhere in the state or nation. I don't have to don any special clothing when I go to Dearborn or watch what I say or do more than I would anywhere else. Of course I see Muslims when I go shopping ten minutes away from my house and I don't panic then either. Sometimes I even talk to them. I better stop now and just go back to shaking my head.

I've enjoyed all the posts, you've sure been busy.

In honor of much of what has been said and I plan to go back and read Belinda's article because it is confirmation of my feelings and so much I have read lately myself, I will add a quote here today.

Before enlightenment, chop wood, carry water. After enlightenment, chop wood, carry water.

I'm actually thinking of all the blame being laid at the President's feet and though things could be done differently, as far as I can see he is doing the best anyone could.  The sad truth is that there are factions who do not want him, never wanted him, and so therefore they are ill equipped to look for anything right.  It is easier to just go big time for blame.  Just sad that when you refuse to recognize success -- when you refuse to acknowledge what is right, you close yourself off from this freedom to be honest.

So no matter what --- at some point the will of the people for the most part will be carried out --- there may be a lot of kicking and screaming, but I refer to the above quote.  The blame game in this instance may make you feel better for a while but isn't going to change much in the end.  The Republicans and their party have the same chance to get it right as any entity --  they I believe are making a sad choice.  It will hurt so much more than it will help.......but their choice and their responsibility.

I am going to go back to chopping wood and carrying water now.

How rumours get started -- and spread.  Of course, money is at the bottom of it all:

Gun Owners of America president Larry Pratt appeared Tuesday on the Talk to Solomon Show alongside conservative blogger Greg W. Howard, of Twittergate fame, for another chance to spew anti-Obama conspiracy theories.

Pratt predicted that President Obama may begin confiscating guns in order to provoke a violent response to justify further oppression, which host Stan Solomon feared would lead to the imprisonment of hundreds of thousands of people.

Pratt once again insisted that Obama is acting like King George III, a sentiment with which Solomon concurred, saying, “That will happen quickly and they will wipe those people out to set an example.”

But Solomon wasn’t finished: “I believe they will put together a racial force to go against an opposite race resistance, basically a black force to go against a white resistance, and then they will claim anyone resisting the black force are doing it because they are racist.”

Howard agreed: “You may be right because he has been sowing the seeds of racial hatred; we were healing quite well as a nation on racial issues until Obama came along and now we have a lot of racial discord.”

"Sowing the seeds of racial hatred?"  The President?  Really?

Race war.....Charles Manson comes to mind.  Makes me very upset.  Lunatics earn some notoriety, but how much is that worth in the long run.

Belinda, love the pic.  Unfortunately, the corollary is also too true.

I expect that the parents of that baby in Michigan will be feeding it hatred and racism as early as possible.  Makes me cryCry.
