Paula's great, but I definitely have to agree to disagree about Palin and Cain. But no worries, neither one of them is of any real political significance anymore, since I don't watch Fox.

Yorkie...I said, I liked them both AT FIRST!!!! Emphasis on AT FIRST! MY EYES WERE OPENED!

So, you see, we don't really disagree after all. I also agree, that neither one of them will ever run for a major office again. I think they know, they just don't have it. But, I do like Palin as a person. She just isn't presidential.

    Be blessed

I didn't watch "the video." Should I, or is it something that will just ruin my day?

Maybe because it's a link to a video but not the video itself? Though that doesn't make sense to me. Yes, it should be taken down. Never mind all the hate speech in the comments to that video.

I knew you weren't talking about the Cain video.

Up at 6:30-off to rehearsal for music for church. Service isn't until 10:00, and on days when I'm not singing, I don't have to get up until 8:45.

No. Don't. I sent a PM to the moderator to ask her to look at itbecause it is just wrong for it to be there. I feel confident that she will do the right thing. I also apologized to them for having to subject them (Melissa) to it.

Kayfh - I had the following deleted once by the mods on complaints of others:

    "Romney is a freeloader."

I DO HOPE that if the above qualified for a deletion based on reader complaints, that a video saying WWI and WWII were the result of legal patsie-ness and lack of gun rights would make it in the "edited out" category. Here's hoping!Cool

In other, much better news, Obama and Biden were sworn in this morning....yey!

I want to add that I love Michelle's new hairdo! She was already beautiful, of course, but it makes her look much younger, IMO.

My husband and son went to a men's prayer breakfast yesterday with my husband's dad, at his dad's church. The speaker was all about how we are at the "end times", how Obama is the anti-Christ, America is becoming communist and socialist, psychiatry is a crock, and we all need to start stockpiling guns.

#1 This church needs to lose its tax exempt status NOW.

#2 I believe, if we are in the "end times"( and how would I know?) if I am good with my God, I have nothing to fear,  why should I stock up on guns and be fearful of my fellow human beings?

#3 It was a good thing it was my husband and son there and not me because I probably would have been carried out of the hall kicking and screaming and shouting profanities. Tongue Out

The speaker did ask if anyone there believed the anti-Christ was on earth right now, and my husband raised his hand and said, yes, but he didn't know whether it was Karl Rove or Dick Cheney. Stunned silence from the crowd.

    ROFL!! "Spitting out coffee."

Your DH is too, too cool, Mary! Hope he is safe and sound, though, and gets no death threats.

Here is what happened today. I love good writing that describes things simply. Old -stlye journalism:

Obama Takes Oath in Quiet Ceremony

    By BRIAN KNOWLTON

"WASHINGTON — President Obama was quietly sworn into office for a second term just before noon in a brief and intimate ceremony, ahead of Monday’s far showier public inaugural celebrations.

"The ceremony, which lasted less than two minutes, satisfied the Constitutional requirement that the president’s swearing-in take place by noon on the Jan. 20 after an election.

"The oath was administered by Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. in the White House Blue Room, an elegant, gilded space with a sweeping view of the South Lawn.

"The chief justice administered the oath faithfully and Mr. Obama repeated it accurately, unlike the situation four years earlier, when Mr. Roberts inverted a few words during the public swearing-in, Mr. Obama echoed the errors, and the oath had to be repeated in private later.

"With that, President Obama shook the hand of Justice Roberts, turned to the crowd and said: “Thank you, everybody,” before leaving the room.

"In sharp contrast to the ceremonies planned for Monday, with their blaring patriotic music, pealing of bells, and parade of thousands of human and equine participants, the ceremony on Sunday was small and understated.

"Witnessing the Blue Room ceremony were family members of the president, including his wife, Michelle, and their daughters, Sasha and Malia.

"Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. was sworn in earlier at his residence on the grounds of the Naval Observatory, using the same 19th-century family Bible he has used in every swearing-in ceremony since he entered the Senate in 1973.

"At Mr. Biden’s request, the oath was delivered by Associate Justice Sonia Sotomayor who read from a printed text to avoid any chance of mistake. He was surrounded by family members, including his wife, Jill.

"Afterward, Mr. Biden shook the justice’s hand, turned to a large audience of family, friends and close political associates, and expressed his warm thanks. Justice Sotomayor, he noted, was due in New York and had a car waiting to take her to Union Station. “Madame Justice, it’s been an honor, a great honor,” he said.

"Mr. Biden then left for Arlington National Cemetery, where he joined President Obama in laying a wreath before the Tomb of the Unknowns.

"The president and his family later traveled to Washington to the Metropolitan African Methodist Episcopal Church, an historic church with a long record of anti-racism activism — it once harbored runaway slaves -- to worship and to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The federal holiday honoring Dr. King coincides this year with Inauguration Day.

"The congregation was enthusiastic, according to pool reports, and the sermon ended with a boisterous call and response of “Forward” – the president’s one-word campaign slogan.

"These events mostly took place out of view of the hundreds of thousands of Americans, foreign visitors and dignitaries who have poured into Washington to be a part of the second inauguration of the nation’s first African-American president, a more restrained affair than four years ago but still a resonant marker in the nation’s history.

"The oaths mark not only the official start of the second Obama-Biden term but also a certain demarcation between the challenges of the first term — winding down two wars, dealing with an economic recession, passage of landmark health care legislation amid fierce partisan wrangling — and the typically more modest agenda of a second-term president....

Oh my, Mary!  That is stunning, well, stunningly awful.  But I admire your DH's quick wittedness!

The vast majority of folk who throw around terms such as communist, socialist, marxist, fascist etc. have absolutely no idea what those terms either meant, or nowadays mean.  They just want people to be fearful, and especially about the supposed "end times" which have been with Christian believers for the last 2,000 years!  Again, whatever it takes to strike fear into the hearts of the masses.

Warning:  a rant is coming!  I was watching CNN yesterday afternoon and some fellow at the Day of Service celebrations was interviewed about the inauguration.  He seemed reasonably intelligent, until he talked about how "only in America" could such a peaceful transition of power take place.  Balderdash!  I'm so sick of hearing people spout that stupid, ill-considered, ignorant line.  They know absolutely nothing of what goes on in other countries -- perhaps because the peaceful transition of power takes place with no hoopla.  Even other republics don't have over-the-top celebrations.

I am also so f'ing tired of hearing people talk about their freedoms -- meaning mostly their freedom to "bear arms".  Well, guess what, folks, the freedoms Americans value so highly -- to speech, to assembly etc. -- are available in just about every 1st world country.  And in most of them, the citizens value their "freedom" to walk down the street, go to a shopping mall, visit their house of worship or movie theatre or school or neighbourhood bar or national park WITHOUT fear of being confronted by "idjuts" carrying guns, concealed or otherwise.  And by the way, the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms includes freedom from discrimination; the U.S. couldn't even pass the Equal Rights Amendment.

    Rant over.  Happy Sunday, everyone!

Just saw a guy interviewed on TV. He said he thought Martin Luther King, Jr. would approve of "Gun Appreciation Day" being on the same weekend as his day to honor him because MLK was all about freedom. Wow.

Yeah, Bear Arms - I WANT SOME TOO.

Hugs to Mary's DH - THANK YOU FOR SPEAKING.

Special, special, deeeeeeeply felt thanks and appreciation to Alexandria.  I have "that person" on ignore, and wouldn't even think of watching any video posted  - expect it's one of those that starts with "self defense" - and goes downhill from there.

Interesting to think about the times the 2nd Amendment to the US Constitution was written - and the "need" to defend ( I think ATTACK is more to my own thinking) the few "groups" not in power then:  Native Americans, and slaves.  The "right to bear arms" "to create a militia" - interesting, wonder if the National Guard is armed when it goes in to help in some of the terrible natural disasters today?  Obviously when in a war zone, they do, anyhow - I'm just not going into the "gun" conversation.

As Senator Leahy ( D -VT) said a few days ago, in the State of VT there are laws regarding hunting - and not more than something like a 6 clip is allowed.  Too bad about all that restriction on the "rights" of the hunters.  In VERMONT...this is snark, btw....

Happy Martin Luther King's Birthday today - and Inauguration of President Obama tomorrow....big smiles...

Mary ---  I nearly ended up with my coffee somewhere not intended when I got to your entry as well.  Loved what your husband had to say about the anti-Christ and your explanation as well.  Jmho, but I think the "end" might just sneak in un-announced if at all.

Also like you I do not need ONE more thing to worry about and if you keep your karma fairly clean it just isn't really going to matter.  I think all the hocus-pocus comes because it is a good 'control agent' and used in just the right spots it helps you move your hand out when the basket is passed.  Hope I have not offended anyone as that is not the point.  More to the point, if there is a God, he or she or both, has absolutely no interest in scaring you into good behavior, but my early years were terrified years.  No need for that and I'm sorry to hear that it still happens.

I think someone mentioned ( could have been a speaker on a t.v. program I've watched, or even right here ) if some of these far-rights could ACTUALLY hear what they say and understand how far out of tune with sooooo many people and how irrational it is, maybe they might actually have a chance to get over whatever loss they feel is happening. Continues to amaze me.

It has been a great oath of office Sunday.

You mean Conspiracy Sunday, seeing as how they took their oaths in private. How do we even know they did it? Or that they didn't pledge to serve Satan, Pelosi, and their minions?

What happened to promises of a transparent government.
