FYI -- the use of the red for Republicans and blue for Democrats only came into widespread use after the 2000 presidential elections. One of the news networks used those colors on their election map and it took off from there.
I'm glad I live in America where we are free to wear any colors we want and any group can choose its own color scheme! However, if the Green party were to become known by any color other than green, I would be very confused.
-
If you take government money don't tell other people they can't.
Seems like a good rule .
-
You people are soooooooooooooooooo confused. . . .when I take government money, its okay because I am worthy. It when they government money thats an issue because they are evil greedy lazy people.
get with the program!

Well, I've decided Bachman isn't worthy of her $250K subsidy. And I want her to give it back.

Lew - so glad you have seen the light ! Welcome fellow cheese-head
Here is a website just for you, very nice selection of cheese head hats etc,. May I suggest the "Swiss cheese-head hat" ?

Why did you change "don't tread on me" avatar. Oh ...another popular member had that one first
Can't wait to see you in a cheese-head !! Better than being a Pansy
Please take this as it was meant...a little humor between BC survivors

Since you asked, Dais -- and also in solidarity with the teachers and others who turned out in force in Wisconsin today -- I'll change my avatar back for another day. Enjoy!

I like meathead better!
Anyone can use these if they like! haha

Appleton High School students show support for teachers in Wisconsin.
Junior Samantha Schroeder, 16, called the Appleton East event "the most inspiring moment of my high school career."
"(We) cared enough about our future and our teachers to go out there and protest Walker's plan," she said. "Everybody thinks that they make a lot of money, but they really don't, especially starting teachers, and we have a lot of younger teachers at this school."

Blue .. those meathead pic's are funny. Don't know if I want to use one for my avatar though, hehehehe. Think I'll stick with Looney Tunes and the road runner for awhile!
love ya,
Bren
PS .. Linda .. where did your pretty little flower go?
-
I don't know whether to LOL or go "ick" at those pictures, Blue! Right now I'm LOLing, but a little queasily.
I think the folks who are fighting for the middle class in Wisconsin are very much in the spirit of our revolutionary forebears, so that old flag is perfectly apt.
L
EDITED to respond to Bren: I'll bring the flower back tomorrow. Or maybe post a beach picture. I'm craving warmth and sunshine!
-
Doesn't Wisconsin have a long history with unions?
-
And of course, Lewing, your flag says "Don't Walker On Me."
-
OMG Ann .. thanks for pointing that out .. now that's a hoot!
-
So- the definition of the "nanny state" people talk about seems to be if you have enough money that you have or had a nanny, you can get help from the state.

Such a good quote from that young student! I know 2 high school teachers in Madison WI (my cousin's son and DIL). They're both completing their PhDs this spring and, strangely enough, want to continue teaching teenagers rather than college students! They're both highly educated, world travellers and are probably pretty good teachers -- and they are underpaid for what they know and what they do and the tremendous amount of work they put into being good teachers. Most people have no idea....
I admire anyone who chooses teaching as a career; it makes no sense that one of the very most important people in a child's life is so ill-respected by people like this Governor.
I'm thankful that teachers in my country are respected and rewarded accordingly.
-
Yeah, the meatheads are kinda gross.
-
We love ya .. you crazy kook!
Bren
-
Love you guys too Bren! I AM a kook.

My daughter in law has a master's in education and teaches fourth and fifth grade. She is a very good teacher and has tenure. She makes her students work hard. My son has high hopes of teaching at the college level when he gets his masters this month. I'm so proud of both of them.

Taking other people's children out of school and using them for your own political gain is just plain WRONG !
You would think that their intellectually gifted teachers would have told them what they were protesting.
What a terrible example the teachers set for the kids. Obscenities written on the some signs including death threats to the gov

Evening folks! Bro failed the swallow test today again so they will do another tomorrow Xraying while he swallows to see what's up. ENT thinks his vocal chord may be damaged from the infection so that will get tested Mon. BUT he will most likely go into a regular room tomorrow. He will need physical therapy due to atrophy from laying in bed for a month before all this plus the past 11 days.
Loved the meatheads Blue. I can be a meathead sometimes. Been feeling the need to change avatars again.
-
BarbaraA,
Are you going to be with him when he has physical therapy? If you can it might be helpful. My husband had physical therapy after two weeks on his back due to an infection and the therapists were a bit over enthusiastic. I had to get them to back off a bit because he was much weaker than they thought. Infections are really hard on the system even after they are under control.
Best wishes for continued improvement for your brother.
-
Thanks, notself. Great suggestion. And thanks for the good wishes.
Hopefully we can get this budget situation straight. Not holding out much hope that our Congress will act like adults and WORK TOGETHER. One can only hope.
-
Trying to stop whatever this dude is doing?
-
Yes, we need deeper cuts.
-
-
Barbara, hang in there. Take care!
-
Barbara, at least they are moving him to a regular room - that has to be good. How is his state of mind? Also, I'd like to clarify that I am the head Kook around here:-) Blue, you can be my sous-chef! ----Chef "Athena"
-
Notself,
Your categorization or implication is that the east and west are the only ones who care. I don't believe that is what I said and it isn't what I meant. My use of the word fault does have a negative connotation though so, maybe the better word would have been responsibility. Regardless, when it comes to passage of bills and laws, the states share equally in responsibility. It just seems to be a trend that many want someone else to blame when it's going bad and the same ones want to take credit when it's going good. Maybe that's just human nature.
