scary Meece - I guess the ground is so dry that all the rain is running off and accumulating in lower areas rather than soaking in.

sherryc - keep 1 metre away from DH and wash your hands regularly - I have got through the whole winter at school with kids spreading their cold and flu germs around by remembering to do that.  Hope you don't catch the cold.

Yes, that's what's happening.  Luckily we aren't due to have any wind or we'd be losing trees right and left.    DH and I had to go out tonight so I could get some stockings to wear tomorrow to the Memorial Service, and it appears that the water is not rising anymore.  DH rideshares with one of tour city councelmen and he said if they have to, they will pump the streets out into the fields, and will have to purchase the crops from the landowners.  We only live about 1 1/2 blocks from the fields.

Phew, good that the water has stopped rising Meece.  Hopefully it will be able to make it's ways out of the streets before the next deluge and the farmers crops will be saved.

Yesterday they said that we would be able to see the cold moon eclipse tonight but now it is overcast with forecast of rain/snow tonight starting about midnight and lasting until morning, there goes seeing the eclipse. I remember seeing it when I was a little girl over Labor Day weekend when we were camping. Temp outside now is right around 30 degrees.

Our end of town is the newest section, and we are having record rains (heaviest in December since 1921) so I think this is the first chance to see how the drainage was going to go.

33 degrees outside and too cloudy last night to see the lunar eclipse Cry. Calling for rain/snow showers today, with temps getting up to 45 as a high - too warm for snow Cry. Now they have put snow back in the forecast for Saturday. I wish they would make up their minds.

Raeinnz-the snow finally started sometime early this am. Very fine, very pretty, just enough breeze to blow it around. The clouds covered up the lunar eclipse, though. Oh, well. By contract I teach in the Fall and Spring semesters. The university I work at has 3 summer terms-one the first half of summer, one the second half, and one that runs all summer but the classes meet less frequently. I can volunteer to teach a summer term class and get paid extra. The schedule sounds hard but since I can do a lot of work form home and often only have to go in 4 days a week it's actually very doable. Especially when you take into account that I don't have to drive in if the weather is bad. I was working in home care before this, no time off due to bad weather, 80 to 120 miles per day of driving, 5 days a week, plus on call, one weekend a month and half the holidays. This time of year is a little rough, with finishing up this semester, getting next semester started, and waiting for the final exams to all get in so the test can be scanned and graded. I've got to go in today for that reason, in fact. The universities do have similar requirements, set by accrediting agencies, specific to each course of study. These regs state what content and sometimes the number of credit hours in certain areas a student must have to get a degree, but the scheduling and timing is set by each campus. One campus in my system is a residential campus and takes almost 4 weeks off between Fall and Spring semester, and finishes in early June. My campus is a commuter campus, so we have less time between the semester and a longer summer break. It all works out.

SherryC-sorry your DH is under the weather. A doc gave my mother a really good cough syrup recipe: Mix 4 tablespoons honey with 2 tablespoons hot water, mix until honey is dissolved, add 4 tablespoons whiskey. Take by the teaspoonful as often as needed. It'll either stop the cough or make your DH not care about coughing! And don't forget to take Lysol, or a diluted bleach solution to all the doorknobs and light switches in the house. Also wipe down the phone, especially the keyboards, and the computer keyboard as well. A wipe with a damp cloth won't hurt the phone or the computer but will significantly reduce the number of germs on them.

Catbill-glad you got home safely! I've made trips like that on occasion. Not my favorite way to relax on the way home.

Meece-is your home in danger of flooding? I hope not! Maybe you should just stay home and not go out in that mess, you might not be able to get back home again!

Now it's up to 37 degrees, snow has changed to rain. Sigh. The snow was so pretty.

When I was working in the reception area I kept Clorox disinfecting wipes at my desk and if I heard anyone at the office was sick, I was wiping down all door handles coming in several times a day. And when someone relieved me at the switchboard, I would wipe down the phone as well as my computer keyboard and mouse with the wipes.

I always kept a can of Lysol at my desk.

We are receiving a reprieve, the next storm is not due until tonight.  Maybe some of this rain can absorb.  Our county was just mentioned on the Today show.     That goes to show you we are not havig normal winter weather.

Denver is mild and dry.....but the mountains are getting dumped on with snow.....some of the SW mountains in Colorado are forecast to get 8 feet of snow by Thursday....2"/hour.....the front range mountains just west of Denver are not getting as much snow, but the skiing is great...lots of powder....my kids went up early this morning (son just texted hubby saying they are stuck in traffic....I'm sure he is annoyed as they should have been there by now and hitting the slopes)....hubby will meet them this evening to spend a few days in the mountains....I might go up tomorrow if the roads aren't too bad, but the next storm is coming in tomorrow.....I haven't skied in 5 years since Dx....and no desire to start up again...don't think the body can handle it!!!

Still raining.  Only down to 39 degrees.  I could turn the furnace off when I left home this morning, it was a chilly 55 in the house when I got home, but anything to save on oil!

Skiing in Colorado is wonderful I've heard.  My sister and brother went to college at Western Colorado and would call back to Michigan in the winter and brag about the great skiing and how sunny and warm it was even when skiing.

We are in a "warm spell" right now.  In the mid 20s and another inch of snow.  Our normal high is usually around 33 or 34 but we haven't been above freezing all month.  More bitter cold coming next week.

80s sound divine Rae, I don't know if any part of the US is getting into the 80s right now (other than Hawaii).

welll...dh never made it up to the mountains last night as the Eisenhower tunnel on I-70 was closed in both directions at the continental divide due to a truck accident on the west side of the tunnel that involved hazardous materials....around 3 in the afternoon they said the freeway would be closed for 4 - 8 hours.....around 10 last night, one side direction was being opened up and by this morning both sides would be.....people were being re-routed over the Loveland pass which was icy and snowy....DD said it took them an hour to get from the Loveland ski area to Frisco which is normally 20 minutes...speeds were 30mph...quite the day of driving for the kids...but at least it was good snow....DH left just after 7:00 this morning to meet the kids at the ski area.....DS is coming home after skiing as he has to work early tomorrow morning.....I'm waiting on a package to be delivered today that needs a signature....so also need to hang around the house (poor me!!!...now only if I get some things done in the house instead of staying here too long)....may go up to the mountains (no skiing for me though) after it arrives if its still early and the roads are good....No snow predicted for Denver over the next several days....40's and 50's during the day....SW Colorado in areas like Crested Butte have gotten 6+ feet of snow!!!

Well the rain is not supposed to be back until Saturday night or Sunday.  We can only hope.  They are trying to pump the abundance of water into settling ponds to leach into the aquifer.  Unfortunately much of the water is runing out to sea.

Right now at 7:33, temp is 36 degrees and no snow yet but they are 70% chance sure that we will get snow sometime today Laughing. Although my hubby doesn't want to see it come, he has to leave Monday morning for Monroe Michigan.

Merry Christmas to all my weather watcher friends.

Merry Xmas friends.  Buffalo is about 24 degrees and cloudy.

    Meece:  Stay safe.

Shelia:  I didn't know it snowed in NC.

Karen:  CO skiing sounds great, I hear it's one of the best in the country.  Our southtowns had so much snow, they opened early this year (I think the final total was 4 feet from one storm!)

Just sitting waiting for myDH to get up,  DD to come over and DS to get out of bed!!  Will be noon before we open gifts.

    Merry Christmas :)

Maureen, North Carolina has 3 climate regions; coastal, foothills, mountains (Grandfather mountain). Occasionally the coast gets snow, the mountains actually have ski resort area, I live in the foothills, about 30 miles from the ski resorts but we don't get as much snow as the mtns. It started snowing here with a few flakes around 8:00 and really started snowing in earnest about 9:00 am. right now the ground is covered and they are calling for 3-6 inches here. My mil called and said that they are moving Christmas lunch up to 11:30 am but my dessert isn't finished baking yet. My husband wants to leave now but we can't go until dessert is out of the oven.

Had a wonderful day with my 91 year old grandmother, my mom, her BF and 2 aunties.  Now home again playing with the puppy and looking at the "Blizzard Watch" in effect for tomorrow night through Monday, and I'm supposed to drive 95 miles to my onc's office Monday am for my lupron shot!  Something tells me that I'll be rescheduling that appointment. . .

Well The day went well other than the wind (had to batten down the greenhouse hatches), and then about 3 hours ago the rain began.  Within an hour we had over a quarter inch and now we are having a break at 35/100".  The day itself was a comfy temp, and I hope it will stay that way.

NM, you be very careful out on the roads!

We ended up with about 9 inches of snow per the Charlotte weatherman, the wet heavy hang on the trees snow. Last night the power flickered and was out for about 5 seconds but came back on. Now the weather man is saying high wind advisory for tonight and tomorrow with temps staying at or below 32 and some additional snow fall. My hubby is hating this, he has to go out tomorrow morning heading to Michigan.

Last night my sister was in TN at her in-laws and asked if we could go to her house and let her dogs out. My son volunteered and ended up sliding off the road (barely) and a neighbor to where he was at walked out through the snow and offered to help pull him out with his 4x4 truck. I need to go back this am but am going to wait for the sun to come up before going.

Blue sky at the moment, not supposed to get nasty here until 10 pm or later.  For tomorrow I'm planning to set my alarm, and if it's snowing, going right back to bed.  I'll call and reschedule before driving in a blizzard.  I can do it, heaven knows I've done it often enough for work, but now that I don't HAVE to, I ain't gonna!

We awoke this morning to crisp clean blue skies.  The kind that make you feel the cold crispness even while youe are stanfing inside.  It is beautiful, like the world just took a shower!  We ended up getting a mere .39"

NM, you go girl!!....or You Stay, Girl!!!

DS left our house to take FDIL home (across the highway from us, maybe a quarter mile).  He forgot his inhaler and was coming back when he watched a car spinout due to traveling way too fast for the slick streets in the rain.   I am sure it was a good reminder for him to be respectful of weather conditions while driving.

We have snow and 23 degrees.  I'm so greatful that I can stay home today and tomorrow although I don't think we're expected to have any measurable snow but I'm totally whipped from the holiday gatherings that we've hosted and gone to over the last week.

Sheila, safe travels to you and to your husband.  Monroe is about an hour from me.  If he ever travels to the Lansing area he'll have to let me know and I'll bring him lunch or dinner or something.

NM, good luck with the blizzard and stay safe and warm.

Meece, I hope your heavy rains are done now.
