Sheila, I'm so sorry for your loss, you're in my thoughts and prayers. Grandmothers are so wonderful.  I'm happy for her that she was alert until she died.

Well, mid Michigan dodged the bullet for a long time but the snow is here.  It began around 7:00 this morning - supposed to have 6 inches by tonight (I'll leave work when there's between 3 and 4" so I can get in my long, curvey, hilley driveway - are those even words???). We're supposed to have another 6" overnight and in the morning so I plan to work from home tomorrow.  We're still much luckier than the mid-atlantic and Ohio ladies!  I'm sorry you all are having such an awful winter, I can't believe the amount of snow you are getting.

Count me in on that ground hog stew (if we can't find the groundhogs cause they ran back in their hole, I have way too many woodchucks in my yard and I'm sure they'd taste the same), LOL

What's the difference between a groundhog and a woodchuck anyway?

I don't think there is one.  I think they are also known as marmots around here.

The rain that was supposed to come in late this afternoon or this evening has been falling continuously, albeit lightly, for three hours now.

Well, at least I can say it is not snowing around here (NC), but it is raining. It's cold too. I am not fond of the cold. Met my son for lunch today and I said to him, "I must really love you b/c I would not be out on such a cold, dreary day!" My bones are just getting too old for this kind of weather. Keep dry and warm everyone. Chris

It's 37 degrees here, even with the sun gone down!  Must have been awfully close to 40 during the day today!

The rain has stopped here, and the sky is a bit lighter now.  I have no idea what the temp is right now.

I swear all those meteorologists including the National Weather Service just waits until it practically on top of you and then they change the forecast to reflect what its really doing.  Our forecast yesterday was start snowing this afternoon and into tomorrow morning - 10 to 20 inches.  Now the National Weather Service is saying tonight and tomorrow (but its 6:39 and nothing) with an accumulation of 3-5 inches.  You don't know what to believe.  I think I will buy a Farmers' Almanac!  Not that I would complain if we got no more snow - ever.

BTW ... the pictures are beautiful ... as long as you can sit in a log cabin with a huge picture window, a roaring fire in the fireplace and a glass of wine.

It's 7:10 and we have about 1 inch of very wet snow on top of the 32-and-a-half we got over the weekend. I agree, pretty much anything is okay with a glass of wine.

Kathleen, everything here in Alexandria is covered over again, no bare spots.   This crazy man with a mini bob cat (bulldozer type machine), goes back and forth from one end of the parking lot to the other and pushes snow in parking spots people shoveled out.  The truth is there is little space to pile more, if we get the 10 inches or more they predict.   Brings back memories of childhood when you never saw the ground from November till April.  It was fun then, but now - NOT !!!   Hugs for all, Nancy

Anna ... nuts!  Stupid white stuff.

Nancy ...  my aunt's apartment building has the same.  She had to pay someone $30 to dig her car out after the plowed!

My one sister and her roommate went to a hotel - it got to be 45 degrees in their house.  Thank the Lord the electricity has been restored to both sisters and my aunt.

My youngest sister was going around her property with a broom knocking snow off her cypress trees!  Crazy kid!

The weather service said we got 3-5 inches of snow but after a while you just see white ... I mean what's a few more inches?  Now we are going to have high winds.  Oh brother!

    Good morning everyone!

Hi Kathleen, Won't it be great having all that stuff on the roof tops blowing down on the roads?  They predict the wind chill will be near zero and white out conditions.    I am working on a jigsaw puzzle to keep my few remaining brain cells awake !!!   Hugs, keep warm and safe, Nancy

White out conditions here. I can't believe it. You go out to dig out the dog's patch, can't see what you're doing, come back in looking loke a snowman, turn around and see that everything has been covered up again. It's either snowing or blowing three inches every half hour at this stage. Kinda scary!

We got a half an inch of rain yesterday, but today it is supposed to be mostly sunny with temps in the high 50s.  Hopefully this doesn't mean heavy fog this morning.

More like eight inches every half hour . . . mostly blowing . . . gimme some of that sunny with temps in the high 50s, please . . . we still have power, though, very thankful for that . . .

We have about 8 inches I think - hard to tell with all of the blowing and drifting.  We live out in the country in the middle of a field so the wind is fierce.  It's 25 degrees with 12 degree windchill.

My dear SIL has just plowed us out - thankfully I'm able to work from home so didn't have to go on the roads this morning.  I'm hoping the driveway doesn't drift over tonight.

I had a major computer malfunction at home so was unable to get on this beloved site for over 24 hours.  So relieved everything is fixed now.

    Have a great day.

I am looking out the window and sky is BLUE.  A few very sparse grey clouds on the horizon.  Nice to see the shadows caused by the sunshine out there, even though that could mean 6 more weeks of winter!

Beautiful sunny day here in Tampa.  Breezy, but getting down in the 30's tonight.  Our snow birds are wondering what has happened here in Florida to stay so cold for us.

Okay, I have just about had it with this snow nonsense!  Canada hardly has any snow and our southern states are getting dumped on?!!!!!!!

My only worry with the snow and winds is that one of the trees in the "nature-preserved" area behind the house will topple and come right through the windows on the second floor (thery are very large trees).  They make a stunning view but I don't want one living with me!

What do all the little outdoor creatures do in two feet of snow ... the squirrels, bunnies, deer and birds?

Kathleen, I am fed up with this snow also.   They are calling it the 100 year snow storm - worst, most snow since records have been kept.   Lots of trees here are drooping and many evergreens have toppled.  Evergreens are very shallow rooted and if there is a lot of rain or ice and snow - they tend to go over -- although they are used as a wind break in many places.   A former neighbor was an arboritist and he loved to tell of trees, history, etc.

Boy, am I bored, not with you gals, but in general.   This weather has put a crimp in my mind exercises - no bridge for a week now...   I have a jigsaw puzzle that came in a can, with no idea which is the edge - flowers of all sizes and shapes.   I think I have the bottom edge done...    or maybe it is the top edge !!!!    And the roads are too nasty to go visit my grand baby.

Keep warm and safe,  Hugs,  Nancy

25 degrees, the snow stopped, roads are cleared.  It was a good drive into work this morning.  I am so sorry for those of you who are getting dumped on this year.  It's so strange that many of us who usually get lots of snow, haven't gotten much and vice versa for those getting dumped on.

Stay warm.  Meece, I hope you have nice sunny weather today and Mary and Pat and all others in Florida - hope it warms up soon for you.

Answer: They make more little outdoor creatures.

Heating system down at work.  Office 64 degrees.  But I can look out and see a sunny blue sky.

Kathleen, don't worry too much about the outdoor critters, snow is one of the best insulators around.  The critters bed down and let the snow cover them up, and take long toasty naps.  Or make more baby critters if they get bored (except the deer, they got preggers in November).  As  a youngster I used to love crawling under the drooping branches of a big ol' pine tree when the branches were covered with snow. In next to the trunk of the tree it was like a tent, with no snow on the ground, just lots of pine needles.  Throw down a blanket, get out a flashlight and book, and read the afternoon away and never get cold--unless I got snow down my back while crawling in!
