It has stopped snowing and the sun has come out. It looks like whipped cream. Absolutely gorgeous. We measure a total of 35 inches. The weatherpeople are calling for drifts tomorrow. One way or the other, we're home for the next two-three days. We can't get the little plow out of the garage, the wall of snow is just too big.

Here's the round table on our patio around 2 this afternoon:

and here's the giant birch tree in our front yard:

and that little fellow taking his bath, just for good measure:

I just took some more of the sunset on the snow and will post them as soon as I upload them.

Anna- Felix is sooooooooo adorable! Aren't grandchildren the best fun..... love this role.

NM- the wedding you mentioned with all the dressed being different styles sounds nice....... I know a few who have done that and I think it adds interest.

As for the weather here in Orlando..........windy and chilly right now...so much so that we decided to skip the walking.

Well, the rain arrived early Friday morning and as I reported earlier we had 6/10" by four yesterday.  This morning was cool, foggy and a bit misty.  By noon the mist turned to sprinkles and I decided to drive to town to a fabric store around 1.  That's when the clouds opened up.  It was pouring in town and when I got home 3 hours later we had only received about 15/100" at home.  As we were cleaning up from dinner, I heard the rain coming down extraordinarily hard.  When I went outside, we were having a hailstorm!  I will be curious to see how much precipitation we got out of this storm.

Oh, and I picked out the fabric for my dress, got home, preshrunk the fabric and got ready to pin the pattern on and found out the pattern had no instruction sheet with it! Grrrrrrrrrr.

I measured only 18 inches of snow here, Anna, but a bit more came down.   My other neighbor man helped clear more snow from my little driveway and we had  a long talk about all kinds of things.   It was not windy and several were out walking their dogs, who were too funny in the snow.  Some obviously had never been in snow or that much snow.

I do not plan on going anywhere today, although invited to a Super Bowl party.   The roads need to be cleared and emergency people need the space to get to where they are going without me on the roadway.   I would like to visit my DIL and grand baby, but I did see them on Thursday, just hours after Olivia arrived.   They need time to rest and heal and get strong after the baby's early arrival.

Keep warm, keep safe, and keep in touch,  Hugs,   Nancy

Enjoy this beautiful day, Nancy. It's kind of nice not to be able to go anywhere. The sun is out in full force and the snow looks like it is studded with diamonds. We have a total of 32.5 inches on the areas we had plowed after Wednesday's snow; 35 inches in the back where we hadn't done anything. We got together with some neighbors and have a plow coming later in the day. Our respective snow blowers/ATVs with shovel/etc. just aren't up to this job. The power is still on and I'm having a blast with that new sewing machine. Meece, good luck with that pattern. I don't sew clothes for myself anymore. I realized I ended up spending a whole lot more than if I went out and bought ready made. Also, I never really like clothing I make for myself, only what I make for little people. That reminds me, I need to finish the little cape I am making for my grandson. My daughter commissioned it. She's a Little Prince fanatic. I'm making a cape with appliquéd animals: the boa constrictor that swallowed en elephant, the little sheep, the fox . . . You should see my sewing room right now! It's the size of a medium-sized bedroom in a 50 year-old house, not really small but not big either. I already have two quilts going on there and will now merge the cape. I love it!

Sounds like you are having a Super-Sew party!  I have two quilts in progress as well.  Mabe I will work on some of the quilting while we watch football today.

Reporting in from Ashburn, Virginia.  Its 21 degrees and I hate snow!  The dogs want to go out so bad but I am in no condition to dig out of 23 or more inches of snow!  Some members of our church will be by soon to dig us out.  My sister has stayed at the hospital where she works since Friday afternoon and will not try to get home until tomorrow morning.  I feel like I'm trapped like a rat.  Did I mention I hate snow?

I never outgrew two childish stages - one is thinking the world should be fair at all times and the terrible twos were I want to do the exact opposite of anyting someone or events dictate.  So now that we have soooo much snow I've gotten "cabin fever" and NEED to get out.

We have a covered front porch -- snow came in anyway and you cannot see the front steps.  You cannot open the back door as snow has piled up and is leaning against it.  Yesterday afternoon I opened the garage door just to see if I could get the "girls" out and there was a solid wall of 2' of snow.  They backed away from the door.  Where people in the neighborhood shoveled the piles are 4-5 fee tall.

Two other sisters (one in Rockville, Maryland and one in McLean, Virginia) are both without power!  When the one in Rockville called the power company she was told it would be multiple days before power would be restored.  I think my aunt's is out too but she doesn't  have a cell phone so cannot reach her.

Anna - loved your pics and Felix is such a cutie!

    Everyone stay warm and safe.

These snow storms have been unbelievable.  I think of my BC sisters who have to endure this without power and pray they are ok.  Here in Tampa, it is cool- - in the 50's and overcast.  We have had a significant amount of rain, particularly on Friday.  This is all good for us as we have had such problems with drought.  I was a 30 year Navy wife and moved many many times.  I've lived where it would snow from October til May.  Never could really get used to it, so we came to Florida.  As you probably saw in the news this past week, we have to deal with sharks if we venture off in the water and with hurricane season starting in the summer.  There are pros and cons of everywhere we live.

I'm a native Louisianan so today is extremely special to me to see the Saints in the Superbowl.  My dad and FIL both were Saints fans from the day the team was organized, but did not live to see this.  I will be cheering for them as well as myself.  Going to one of the son's homes to watch the game.  I've had to put two of 3 sons in rehab.  This son has almost 5 years of recovery.  This is the first time my husband and myself have been invited to their home, they ususally come over here every weekend.  The other son has 5 months of sobriety and he will be there too.  It wouldn't matter if I had to walk on water or over snow drifts, I'd be there tonight just to bask in the joy of the event.  GEAUX Saints.  (I'm half cajun).

21 degreees, quite a bit of breeze this morning.  Washed the sheets thinking it would be a great day to hang them out, the breeze will dry them very quickly.  Took the first one out to the line and it's snowing!  Not hard, doesn't look like it'll amount to anything, but still!  Oh, well, could be worse, as many of the sister on here are experiencing.  I consider myself blessed.  Hope all of you who are snowed in and without power get dug out and lit up really soon!

That is a beautiful picture.  We had a cloudy day, temps in the 20s.  Same as it's been however, there are now winter storm watches for our area for Tuesday night into Wednesday for 6-12 inches of snow.  Certainly not what the middle east coast ladies have experienced but if it happens it will be our first major storm of the winter.  Very unusual to not have had a major storm before now.

Enjoy the super bowl, or the commercials (my favorite part) and have a great evening.

Beautiful picture! Everything looks so crips and clean in the snow.

GEAUX Saints! I love that you are half Cajun, Mary. We spend half the year in France, and I love anything even casually connected with French. It sounds like your son have had a difficult journey but are on the right track. I hope you have a wonderful time at your son's home tonight. We are watching half time as I write. The Who. I never really knew them, so it's interesting to see who sang all the songs I know so well.

    I too like the commercials.

Thanks for the condolences Meece about being stuck inside.

Mum - that picture must have been taken on Friday because by Saturday night the shoveled snow was about 4 or 5 feet high!

We, too, are expecting a snow storm Tuesday through Wednesday ... I think I will start building an igloo.  This is so unusual for us -- I am sure Maryland, Virginia and DC have all busted their budgets for the year.

I have not heard from either my two sisters or my aunt so I guess the electricity is still off.  This a heck of a time to lose your source of heat.

I hope all my sisters are okay and warm

That pic had to be Friday night as there was only 6 inches or so of snow.   Saturday night had piles of snow as high as one can imagine from the snow plows and people shoveling out their cars and sidewalks.   It is like walking down an open topped tunnel in some areas.   I can't post pictures, but there were also many trees and power lines down.   I did not lose power, but many did.

I am moving to another apartment complex in March - each apt has a small fireplace, which I had not given a lot of thought to until now and the potential for no power during a storm.   Any English teachers, do not criticize that run on sentence, please...

Kathleen, I think they said all municipalities are way over the snow budget and another storm is coming.   That ground hog -    6 more weeks of winter   - no comment for now !!!

We ended up friday with around 4-5 inches of snow but it sleeted all day. We were on the leading edge of the storm that blew up the coast, right on the cool/freezing temp line. They are calling for a chance of snow/sleet again tomorrow but I will be in Ohio. My grandmother, who taught me how to sew, peacefully passed away Saturday (she was 95 yrs old). She was alert and knew people on Friday and Saturday morning the nurses got her up and dressed and when they came in with her breakfast tray, she was slumped in her chair. My mom went to the home as soon as they called and she and my dad were there when Grandma stopped breathing. She had pnumonia since November, could not get rid of it.

lvtwoqlt, my condolences to you and your family.  I am sure that you have lots of wonderful memories of your grandmother teaching you to sew.

No more rain for us yesterday, but the total for Friday and Saturday was over an inch.  Should be partly cloudy today and rain coming in tomorrow.

Sheila ... so sorry to hear about your grandmother.  I'm sure you have so many fond memories of her.  Grandmothers are the best.

We are expecting between Tuesday and Wednesday another 12-15 inches of snow.  Yikes!  It was 21 degrees this morning.  Double Yikes!

My sister finally came home this morning after being gone since Friday late afternoon.  She stayed at the hospital and worked.  Her dogs were so excited they could barely contain themselves.

I am sorry Sheila. Have a safe trip.    My snow shovel got a work out today with 2 people shoveling out their cars.  I could have made a mint selling snow shovels this past weekend....   And more to come.   Kathleen, I heard "only" 6-8 inches.   There was some melting but the water has no place to go as the storm drains are all plowed over.  Will be a nice skating rink in the morning.    At least I do not have to go out.

I just this minute heard Doug Hill on WTOP saying we're in for anything between 10 and 20 inches. The kids are planning a Valentine's date with dinner at a restaurant and then a hotel, but that depends on my being there to spend the night with my little fellow. I gotta make it out of here on Saturday, I just gotta!

Condolences, Sheila, and I hope my grandmother's passing is as peaceful when her time comes--she's 92.
