riley- 4 weeks post heart attack, my bosses daugher (also my boss) looked at me and said ; so are you coming back full time next week?"....not with a gentle tone....not sarcastic either but not the tone I would have used with me....seriously???? I returned to work a week after my BC surgery...I returned to work two weeks after my heart surgery....half time for two weeks and 2/3 time for two weeks is fine..not like they are paying me for the other 1//2 or 1/3.....WTH?>your charge nurse sounds stressed....or just not nice.

Riley _i don't post here often, But have been in nursing since 69. Nursing in the USA is the most unkind profession for women. AND too many managers and administrators who have never done what they ask the staff to do. I loved nursing , but in a do over would have choosen a career that didn't treat their employees so poorly. It's unfathomable, when you think about what they expectand the treatment of the nurse ----who is then expected to give the untmost of care to there sick patients. There were nights i had to be taken to my car in awheelchair after a typical 12  1/2 that always was 13- to 14.  No breaks __no lunch and if you had to pee it was a big deal---------what a stupid joke on us. WTC

I have met many nasty doctors, many nasty med techs, and many nasty other med personnel but NEVER any nasty nurses. At the most I might get someone who is having a bad day but nothing serious.

I agree all the nurses I have had were nice helpful and seemed genuinely care about my care .

Wow, have you guys been lucky if you didn't meet any nurses who were nasty.  I can think of a few nasty I've had in addition to many that were wonderful.

HOpe everyone has a wonderful holiday- I guess we can all concur there are just nasty people in all professions. And it follows there are wonderful people as well. It is just the way life is. Some folks are just truly special...

Well, it is Easter afternoon and I am having my own pity party.  I bought a wig before I lost my hair but I truly hate it.  The elastic hurts, itches and gives me a headache.  I wear a scarf or a baseball cap most of the time.  This afternoon I was getting dressed to go eat dinner with my husband's family.  He came in and asked if I was going to wear my wig.  I said ummmm no, I never wear my wig.  He said he needs me to be "normal" for a while.  I was really shocked and started to cry.  I am 4 weeks post chemo and he said it was time for someone to tell me that it is time for me to go back to being "normal" and he was the one who needed to say it.  I guess 4 weeks post chemo is enough time to grow my hair back and forget the hell I have been through for the last 7 months.  I am so upset that I am not even thinking logically.

I have been crying now for almost three hours.  I am pretty sure I will run out of tears soon.  I never new until today that hair was required for being normal  I hate men!

To start off, most men can be big ol' butts.  The next time he says something about being "normal" just let him know that "this is the new normal for now".  He can wear the d@mn wig if he wants, but you will not be wearing it anytime soon. I am about 11 weeks post chemo, and hair is trying to grow back,  maybe 1/4 inch (if I'm lucky) and anyone who is in the house sees me without a headcovering.  If they don't like it tough.  This is my normal for now and it's what you get.  

I went to our employee awards banquet last week in a scarf.  I got some funny looks, but they had only seen me in scrub caps since November, so they were not sure if I would wig it or not. (NOT!!!)  

We will probably not forget the hell that we have gone through,somedays it is easier than others but it is still there.

We have to face it .... men are shallow people! When researchers do those studies about what is important in choosing a mate, women go for intellect and personality, men go for looks

Take comfort in knowing that your hair will grow back. You might ask him what will happen when and if he goes bald with age? Should you demand he wear a "rug" to look normal?

Susan....I can understand your tears, hurt and frustration....maybe cut and paste what you wrote here and send it to him in an email....he might get the message then in a way tha does not prolong the hurt feelings but gets the message across....you need to do what you are comfortable with....period...it is YOUR head....but somehow he needs to get back to what he perceives as 'normal' too probably...and he is not likely talking about it....wish men found it easier to go and get support when they feel all frigged up by things they have no control over...warm bubble bath for you my dear...sending you hugs....and hoping they help
