Yeah sweaty girl you made it through, I was thinking of you when I had the wire localization, which Sloan has decided not to use local anethesia anymore. I am not an advocate of this.....but still not bad. I should have told you to call me I was up at 3 trying not to take more Vicodin but finally did because I could not get back to sleep. Sleep, eat and drink lots of fluids and I will pray for both of us to have good pathology reports.
Warm Fuzzies,
Linda

WTF???? No lidocaine before the fishhooks????? Sloan is cruel and unusual and I think it's time to sue them on Constitutional grounds. I mean, we're prisoners, aren't we??
My fishhook experience was NOT AT ALL a pleasant one, even with the Xanax & Lidocaine.
On the plus side, I had the radiologist scrambling around on the floor while working on my bottom area. Share the joy, share the pain!
-
Jeez, I am sorry that yours at least wasn't easy, my two last time were without pain altogether, what ever its over now!!
Are you in alot of pain honey?Call me if you feel like chatting.
-
Sweaty sounds like you took it like a champ! Way to go
Also: sounds like you did NOT have implants (the usual culprit for "hamburger buns") so maybe yours will be more natural than that. Hope the pain abates soon.
OG - Welcome home to you too and let the healing and the relief that it is OVER begin
Lilah

Are you kidding...no local for wire at sloan!!!!!
My wire insertion was endless....and they had to do the local an extra time!!!!!
Are they crazy????????
Glad you are doing well ladies!
-
Sweaty, you were not wuss to stay. I was almost there 2 nights and London was there for a week.
-
Sweaty- glad to see you posting. Keep the vicodin ahead of the pain
OG- so glad that things seem to have gone well
Cookie_ How u feeling??????? Nice to see you doing some posting but I noticed you're definitely dragging and not posting as much. You okay?
-
Sweaty..seems like all went well. You are back to your long postings. How great.

Oh my word! I haven't been on in close to a week, and look at what happened. Between physical therapy, and work being insane, I've been getting home at night, having dinner and going straight to bed. I'll be praying for both of you Sweaty, and Omaha.
I'm starting my follow ups on Tuesday morning. have my mamo and ultra sound. I'm usually so stressed out from them, I decided to take the whole day off of work, and hopefully enjoy the afternoon if all goes well. Thank God the place I go to gives you the results right then and there. I have an appointment with my oncologist on Feb 9th, and she goes into detail with everything.
The Irish Pub sounds good to me! Hopefully everybody will be well enough to attend!

On the subject of: POO
I haven't poo-ed since Weds. I've taken lots of stool softener, but no urge to purge. When do I have to start worrying, and is there anything I should be doing?
Still peeing like a champ.
-
Sweaty...so glad you are beyond the worst!
Try Magnesium 400mg for the POO's!
OG....hope we can catch up soon...sending you warm fuzzies, too!
God Bless!
-
And good old fashioned prunes and prune juice plus a lot of h2o
-
Sweaty -- It's the V that stops the poo... if you can take it, switch to Tylenol for pain and you'll see improvement. Otherwise, what everyone else suggested can help.
Lilah
-
HA! Of course, I checked the thread just after swallowing a V.
I think tom'w I might try to shower. That seems verrrrrry interesting, indeed. But I am a stinkpot.
-
Do you have drains Sweaty? I wasn't allowed to shower til drains came out (which was a drag). LOL re: the V... I am sure that 24 hours after stopping the V, you'll poo
(If you haven't already)
Lilah
-
I'm pretty sure they said I could shower with the drains....hmmm. Will have to check.
-
Sweaty, for what it's worth, here's all my constipation advice: take metamucil - I think they have a less weird/gross type now. Mix in chocolate milk or orange juice with pulp (the kind of drink that, if it's a little thicker than usual, is still palatable). Drink lots and lots and lots and lots of water. Stool softeners are helpful. My cousin swears by prunes but they never did much for me. I've used infant glycerin suppositories on occasion (not as traumatic as an enema).
And sad to say the dreaded Fleet enema (the saline kind) can be a godsend. Like Kramer said, Wet and wild! (It gets the job done and adds an extra layer to the freakishness of it all.)
Good luck!

Sweaty:
They don't come vain-er than me. So on the showering, I was told not to get the area where the drain tubes were wet as germs and stuff could take advantage of the open incision and cause a lovely lil infection.
So, what I did was take an elastic sanitary napkin belt (they gave me one in the take home mastectomy kit, it looks like a long peice of elastic with bra hooks on it) I put that around my waist or neck depending on what felt right, after looping it through the plastic loops on the drains. I was able to use the hand held part of the shower to wash everything below the drain incisions. I covered the drain incisions with clean dry wash cloths and used the other hand to wash under my arms with a damp wash cloth with a lil soap and water. To wash my hair, I bent over the tub and used the hand held to wash my hair with my head over the tub and a big dry towel overing the rest of me. Some other people cut head and arm holes in the top of big green lawn and leaf bags to keep dry.
Nothing made me feel more human that being able to shower and wash my own hair.
I'm already stressing and planning for how to stay clean in the hospital after the DIEP.
There is a deodorant called Certain Dri ( i don't think you can use it with a SNB the skin has to be closed) you put it on at night, let it dry 5-10 minutes before putting on clothes and it keeps you dry for 72 hours.
If I think of any other anti-ripeness tips, I'll let you know.
-
Hmmm....I didn't have a SNB, so can I just use deodorant as per usual?
I looooove the lawn & leaf bag idea, it appeals to my sense of costume.
I don't know if I got a mastectomy kit, I got a brown paper bag but haven't examined the contents. I'll have to see what's in there.
I'm getting more and more bummed at the size of my minitits. I really wasn't expecting this sort of tiny. I'm so ready for augmentation surgery. And the really high and tight of it is just so weird. Whose body is this, anyway? It sure doesn't seem like mine.
I'm at my friend's house - she has a big enclosed shower and I think has a chair to put in it, that might help. I'd ask her to wash my hair in the sink, but bending over - well, we'd often dye each other's grey, and as I remember your tits smush up against the sink ledge....that won't work right now. Hmmm.
I haven't taken a V since 11pm or so, maybe I can poo soon. First things first, I guess.
-
Hope things get moving soon Sweaty!
Wendy -- didn't know you had decided on the DIEP.
Lilah

Liliah
It's not really my decision, the Dr said he does not think that the rads skin can stretch enough for an implant given all that happened, so he thinks we need a lil help from my tummy, and most likely an implant under it to make them even.
The implant that was there (the one that is gone now) really caused me pain from the day i had the surgery till the day they took it out, part of my good mood despite being, shall we say uneven, is that I have no pain now.
Wednesday I should know for sure what the plan is. He originally said Lat, but I really have nothing there its skin a little muscle and bone, plus i don't want the visable scar on my back, the tummy I can hide. So he said we could do the DIEP and use it to add skin and tissue to the bottom of the rads side.
but enough about my trials.
I can't wait till the next GTG.
-
Wendy - that all sounds smart. Afterall, there was a reason you had that heating pad there in the first place! Hope you get a gorgeous foob!
I look forward to next GTG too -- though I think I have to wait til May as I'm away Mar 18 - 21 (to Atlantic City) for my birthday.
Sweaty and OG -- hope you are both feeling better and better!

Good Day ladies, I have just been reading the posts and laughing out loud and my husband asked what I was laughing about and I of course had to say "poop".
I woke up today and my face was so swollen I could barely see out of my eyes, I don't know why but I am freaky to look at. No allergies, not to much salt, a mystery...
I am drinking lots of water hopefully that will take care of it.
Sweaty, I have heard that the flat hamburgers don't stay that way that they "fluff out"...
Take good care of yourselves and thanks for the love notes.
-
Sweaty,
My doctor recommended prunes. They worked well.
I believe that different PS's have different views on whether or not to shower.
I also know that there are different levels of pain killers. The narcotic ones make one constipated.
Hope you continue to feel better each day.

Sweaty:
Did you ever think your pooping and showering would garner this much interest from anyone other than your mom or grandmom?
-
OG:
I m so sorry, have you called your surgeon?
I know antibiotics and morphine can sometimes cause facial swelling, but please call your doctor and let us know you are ok.
Wendy the worrier
-
Wendy I did not call the doctor because I am the know it all "nurse" but swelling is down and it seems to be brought on by my sinuses, which have been problematic all winter..
I need hypnosis the kind that makes you want to work LOL, because I never want to go to work anymore.
-
Hope you are feeling better, OG!!
I finally pooed - but only once!
Want more poo.
One of my friends came over for a visit, it was exhausting.
