Patoo,
Do you live at The Villages in FL?
-
A storm is coming in...the temp has dropped and it is really windy...supposed to be rain and hail. Don't mind the rain or the cooler temps as long as the rain doesn't interfere with my walks!!!
Have a good week-end. Be back Saturday night
-
We are getting a storm tonight too. It's currently about 40 miles from me. It will cool us down also. I'm grateful.
I haven't posted much about exercise since coming home from TX. I've just been doing 1.5-2 mile mall walks since it has been so hot and humid. I've also been doing some curls with very light weights. I'm hoping to get back outside for more strenuous walks with hills when it cools down.
-
Kaption, yes, I've lived here for a year now - loving it!
-
Patoo,
We looked to move to FL several times, including the Villages. Just couldn't stand to leave the grandkids. We have spent winters in Cocoa Beach several times and stopped for the night at TV a few times. Fun place! Love the town squares.
-
Kaption, folk here love to travel to visit grandkids and grandkids come here lots. Camp Villages for the kids is extremely active. Grandparents actually can't simply drop them off but must also take part in the activities they sign them into. Rest of time grandparents kick up their heels in the squares, enjoy happy hour (which starts at 11am), and are extremely active in so many ways. No "old" people in TV. Win-win all around. But your sentiments about being around your grands is not uncommon.

LOL, ya-you-betcha, Minnesota people can dance pretty good....Zydeco Music, Cajun Music, South Louisiana Music, some Blues, Swamp Pop Music, beads, gumbo....you name it, Louisiana without all the humidity! I accidentally walked 1 1/2 hours today. We are in Minnesota Lakes Country and I wanted to get closer to the water so took a side road that looked like it would wind back to the main one......after a very long way, it ended in a dead end so I had to retrace my steps. Opps!
-
LOL Ruth, sounds like that loooong walk in my bro's neighborhood last year (I thought I knew where I was going but got turned around and after an hour had to call my SIL to come get me) but prettier.
Raining today so looking like exercise will be grocery shopping and cleaning the house.
-
Two bear sightings from two different people in the last week! And on opposite coasts. Crazy!
Lots of thunderstorms this week in north east Ohio. Fortunately, I've been able to hike in the morning.
Ruth, we gutted our entire home 10 years ago, and we lived in the construction zone during this time. I feel for you.
We hired a carpenter to make a custom enclosure for our refridgerator, and doors to our utility room, and a wood panel for our bar. He went MIA after he was finished with about 1/2 the job. No, we didn't pay him in full, but we figured he must've received a more lucrative job, and screwed us over. My husband finished the work.
We also had a problem with our cabinets, and when I say problem I mean it took a year for us to receive them from Italy.
-
Ruth- sorry your renovation is not going smoothly. Enjoy your getaway.
Thursday, I did my Livestrong program, lifted weights and did a water fitness class.
Worked setting up my classroom on Friday and then went on a full moon kayak ride in dh's hometown. It was fun. People's boats were lit up. We found battery operated lights in the dollar aisle at target. Will try to post picture.
This morning, we volunteered at the triathalon that I was hoping to do this summer. I have been struggling with an angry glute muscle that is cramping up and about 2 weeks ago I had to accept that I could not complete the Tri. This is the same one I was set to do last year and then I broke my toe and had to do it as a relay team. It was so hard to watch others do it this year but I am glad I could help since they were shorthanded. Better to set my eyes on a new goal.
-
yesterday and today did 35 minute walk\ru
-
Ginger that sounds like a fun way to kayak-all lit up under a full moon
i walked 25 minutes yesterday evening Today i went walking at the lake Half way around, a storm started to blow in i could see it was raining on the other side of the lake so I decided to turn around and go back the way I came but it still caught me I started running hoping to beat it but I was sopping wet when i got back so theres one way to motivate me to run!
-
Yes TwoH, that will do it! Ginger, I love to see kayakers but am scared to try it myself. My sister tells me it's safe but I see myself getting stuck in it and flipping over. Worse fear is, we say here in FL, 'if there's water, there's gators' and, with my luck, being that close to the water would put me near a hungry alligator! Think I'll stay on shore unless it's a cruise ship!
Bowled today then some walking and home.
Night sculpted friends.

Got the house cleaned including washing all of the bedding. Looking forward to slipping into clean sheets tonight. This afternoon it cleared up long enough for a 30-min walk and some gardening. Weeding is easier after it rains and the ground is soft. Nice break from Scrub & Sculpt.
-
Ginger the kayaks look fun! I have only done it once but I liked it. Hope to get one for the new place.
Patoo My DH who is 6'4 tried kayaking in one that was MUCH too small for him. He looked like those old fisher price toys Weblos! He was very uncomfortable and felt stuck!
Did cleaning and more painting today. Big storms here as well
-
Cheryl: You have been really busy and now you're in Boston! Hope it's going well.
Heidi: Dancing at a wedding is one of the best parts but you forgot about the cake as it ranks right up there with dancing!
TH: Rain is definitely a good motivator to run. Twice this summer my motivator has been yellow jackets. Ugh!
Ginger: Love the kayaks!
badger: I really like taking a shower and then going to sleep in clean sheets. Ahhhhh.
Hi Everybody! It's late here and I need to go to bed. I'm waiting for the dryer to buzz so I can fold the clothes. I have walked/ran for the the last 2 mornings and also this evening. We need to mow but are waiting until Monday when the humidity will be lower. Hoping the weather people are right with their forecast!
-
yesterday was some cleaning and mall walking. I should have walked outside since it was so beautiful.
Patoo, I kayaked in FL-near Ft. Myers once with friends. Double person kayaks. One of our group is terrified of water. Our guide said, if you fall over- just stand up. The water is only just above your knees! It was a nature preserve and they said no gators. I'm not sure how they knew that for sure though. Ginger, your ride sounded like so much fun!!
-
Back from my sojourn to New England, flew into Boston and drove to New Hampshire, what a beautiful state - the little I saw if it and I met some lovely people, after talking to some people I'm putting Maine on my 'bucket list'.
So yesterday went to my Les Mills Super Q and did Body Step, Sh'bam, Body Vive, Body Jam and tried to do Body Combat but by the end of the day I was shattered so I just gave up on that one, and while I was having my lunch break got a phone call from LilacBlue, she is in the US of course she's in Newport the very few days I'm on the east coast but we are going to try and get together next weekend, I know it's excessive but this is my Fitbit reading from yesterday, not a normal day but I'm proud that at 66 I did this.
I
I discovered this morning that I really don't like night driving any more, I had to leave my hotel at 2.30am this morning to get into Boston and I didn't enjoy the dark drive and I usually don't mind driving at all.
Now I have to tidy up and do some laundry - if I was really wealthy I would sleep on clean sheets every night
-
Holy Cow, Cheryl. Be careful or your fitbit will explode!!
Home after a fun long weekend. Spent about an hour picking up branches in the backyard because a wind storm came through in our absence. Should do some toning while watching the closing ceremonies of the Olympics....we shall see.....
-
Wow Cheryl! I'm doing good to get 10,000 steps in! Got 3-4 miles in at the fair yesterday. Walked on the dreadmill for a mile today, then a mile outside. The weather was fantastic today!
-
Holy cow, Cheryl! You must be beat! I am tired just reading all you did. I am headed to Boston tomorrow for my oncology checkup. I missed you by a day.
Patoo- I don't think I would like to kayak where there are alligators!
We have been ripping off and replacing trim boards near our roofline. Great exercise climbing up and down ladders and upper body workout with a crowbar. Spent early evenings both nights at a friend's lake. Kayaking and relaxing by the water. Nice way to cool off and relax after a hot day of work.
-
I'm only 5'7" but think my aging hips would not be happy in a kayak for any length of time at least. I understand it if fun though.
Ran in pool for an hour this afternoon then did mysunshine's 5-mile Walk Away the Pounds class. Then to the square for a little dancing. Yep, trying make up for the lack of 'real' exercise lately.
Two months from today we will be in San Antonio - YAY!
Night sculpted friends.
-
Wow, wow, wow, Cheryl! That is a well-fed Fitbit. Mine has definitely been undernourished in the past week. Hopefully things will turn around now that school has started. Wonderland, SO true about the cake! Ginger, love the kayak lights. Patoo, there are kayaks that are not sit-in but don't know if they are more comfortable.
Will try to go for a run today and then do Body Jam in the evening.
ETA: Cheryl, say hello to LilacBlue for us!
-
Definitely say 'hi to Lilac' from us & throw in a couple of hugs as well!
The carpenter is supposed to be coming over this morning. Wish me luck!
-
Good luck Ruth. Hoping all goes well. Finally cool and lovely here after a hot several days. I am adding myself to the list to say "hi" to LilacBlue.
I did 3 miles of walking then about 14 miles of cycling near my house yesterday after my friend left. My ears were what got the most exercise, and are amazingly still there. I wasn't sure so had to check.
Saturday was a delightful swim after showing her the local sights. She was surprised to learn that I really am still working!
Just got my rider packet for the High Pass Challenge next Monday. No, not up to the top of Mount St Helens, but the 100k of the lower foothills. Should be fun, and my last major ride this season. I do have one more in this series at the end of September, but will do either the 25 mile or 45 mile course.
Plus I want to do a ride around Lopez Island. So lucky to live where the cycling is fabulous. - Claire
-
Patoo's alligators are a LOT scarier than cute black bears!!! I'm with you Patoo about not wanting to flip out of a kayak into those waters.
LOL on your butterfly gardening class! Ginger - the kayaks look like fun! I'm sorry about the tri - maybe next year you'll avoid broken toes and angry glutes and be ready to go. Wonderland - wedding cake - yummmmmmmmmm! Cheryl - was there smoke coming out of your Fitbit after that day? Very very impressive! Ginger - sounds like your trim board removal is quite a workout, but nice you could have relaxing evenings by the lake. Cheryl - please give LilacBlue my love - so envious that you two are getting together! Good luck with the carpenter, Ruth. Hope you had fun at the Cajun Fest. Claire - LOL on your chatty friend!
Much cooler this morning - only in the 60's so was able to go for a run outside on the golf course. I'm surprised at how much darker it was at 6am this morning since I last ran outside just over a week ago. I'm going to have to dig out my running light soon. Saw 6 deer (including Sir Nubs) and a few bunnies. I missed seeing my little animal friends when I was stuck inside on the dreadmill. My DH was teasing me that I was like Snow White singing outside with all the little forest animals around her. I think I'm probably less Snow White and more like Lily Tomlin when she did the Snow White scene in 9 to 5.
-
Yes, Mary- I also notice it is darker when i get up in the morning i hate for summer to go
Good job, Cheryl i think you can put your feet up and rest a day now
i did more carpet cleaning Sunday and a 50 minute walk Today i walked 30 minutes
-
Only 80 minutes water aerobics this morning. Supermarket shopping this afternoon (thought about cooking and found we had no food). On couch rest of day.
Night sculpted friends.
-
WOW Cheryl! you are working your Fitbit hard! Please tell LB hello for me.
Hi Everybody! The humidity is less today as predicted and I'm loving it. I mowed for 2 hours this evening. The grass was THICK and I got a great workout.

Zumba & Yoga.
