Grainne, you have caught on to our secret. We just use exercise as an excuse to visit!

Patoo, you will have to explain pickleball because I don't know what it is either.

POUND, yoga, 3 trips to Menards & now I am doing some touch-up painting. All the handles are on the cupboards & drawers & the counters are on..... I don't know that is exciting enough for another picture. All I ate today was 4 nutri grain bars, an iced coffee and a Coke. I don't want to buy any more food until I have a place to put it!

Tonight, I'm struggling to stay awake. Keep nodding off, so think I best get in bed. Lots to catch up on and get ready for the new school year. Monday its back to school. Work is really going to interfere with my walking!!

On vacation in Ft. Worth/Dallas going to the Galeria mall. My phone will keep track of my steps and distance. Should be pretty good.

I haven't really introduced myself. I found this board through Ruth and the games boards. We found we have a lot in common-especially the books we read.

Anyway, I'm a "metser " Stage 4 bc. All bone Mets and a pretty messed up spine and right pelvic bone. So, after many years of racketball, walking exercise, and yoga- I'm down to walking for exercise. But, I can still do that pretty well. Thanks for the motivation!

I find walking to be a great form of exercise. Easy on the knees and hips.

We had a major thunderstorm last night, and it's expected to rain later today. No rain this morning, so I could go on my usual hike, but once again you cou could cut the humidity with a knife.

I can't remember if I mentioned thisl I live insouthern CA, but have been with my dad in Ohio for the past year. He works out at the gym 5 to 6 days a week. I figure if my 87 year old father is doing this, I should move my butt, too!

We LOVE NEW exercise sisters here! Heart

I walked for 45 minutes this morning......my fitbit has gone crazy and says I have 18,000 steps......which is definitely about 10,000 more than I actually have......but who am I to argue?

I should have a nice remodel picture tonight as progress is being made!

Well, walking around all 4 floors of the Galleria in Dallas plus a huge Walmart is about 2.5 miles. I'm tired!

Hi Kaption! That's a lot of walking while shopping!

hsant: Your father is very impressive!

Can't wait to see the picture, Ruth.

    Karen: Glad you're back home.

Walked/ran early this afternoon under partly cloudy sky. I liked when it was cloudy!

Wonderland, I like walking when it's cloudy, too. It feels cooler with out the sun beating down.

Well, somehow I managed to put both of my father's tv remotes in the washing machine yesterday. So, I bought new batteries, said a little prayer and lo and behold they work! Happy ending!

This morning it was 78 degrees and humid as heck. I was seriously sweating on my hike.

    Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend

I havent reported in for several days. The last couple of days I've been busy with other chores, so I didn't get any exercising in, but Tuesday I mowed for 35 minutes and walked for 32. Monday I walked 27 minutes, Sunday 35. I feel like a slug only having done that much after averaging a good 5 hours a week this summer! Funny how that happens.

Ruth I feel guilty when I see how ambitious you are with remodeling. It's looking good. I can't even get up the motivation to paint my bedroom. I just hate indoor work. I'd rather be outside.

Mary I enjoyed the pictures of the bears! That's one thing I have never seen.

Grainne, I feel the same working with my UK co-workers. They will say a term and I have to google it! Even I'm not sure what pickleball is.

    Welcome hsant and Kaption!

only about a mile of shopping walking today. Sore back slowed me down.

I'm anxious to see your "after" pictures, Ruth.

Thank you, TwoHobbies. Sounds like lots of exercise to me.

Braved the horrible construction traffic in HotLanta just to have a walkabout at our Botanical Gardens. I needed a photography fix and that's one of my goto places for pixs. Now at the gym feeding my Fitbits and growling seriously at the person who took my new little fan when I accidentally left it on the treadmill Thursday. Had to eat the cost and order another fan from Amazon.

    Grrr

Scottiemom: The person who stole your fan is a jerk!

Hi Everybody. Another hot and humid day here and the grass is growing like a weed. Dh and I didn't start mowing until 7:15 pm. He had to stop early and I continued until 8:45 (the moon was nice and bright). The yard isn't finished yet and he will complete it tomorrow. Here are pictures of me after mowing this evening for 90 minutes in 85 degrees high humidity and another after my shower. I feel great now!

Humid here too, Wonderland. It can just sap the energy from you. I took my dog for a walk, 25 minutes, and then went for a bike ride up the trail, 1 hour 20 minutes. Coming back from the trail is uphill and I felt like I wasn't going to make it. I just wanted to get off and walk! I do this same route every time I bike so it has to be the humidity.

Scottie, I hope to see some Botanic Garden pictures. G

hi all and belated welcome hsant and Kaption!

Wonderland LOL @ before & after pix. Remember, it's not sweat, it's Liquid Awesome.

Logged 12.6 miles walked since last post. I've been walking early as been too hot after work. New morning routine is to get up at (my usual) 4:30 a.m., put on the coffee pot, walk for 15 mins, then have my first cuppa while I read the newspaper. Add a 15-min walk around the building at lunchtime equals 30 mins, my daily minimum goal. Any additional movement is a bonus! Heat finally broke with storms Thurs & Fri. Glad for the rain but missed the Perseid meteor burst. Beautiful here this weekend. Nice 45-min walk yesterday and plan same for today.

    Kitchen is looking good, Ruth!

Well I did housework for literally 4 hours today, so I'm counting it! I started off wanting to clean the carpeting and get my shower curtain liner in the wash. I vaccuumed everywhere and then I noticed the baseboards are dusty and dirty, and the mantle. Then I did the carpeting and oh, it all looked so clean I had to wash the windows. And since I cleaned the carpet, I wondered if the dog bedding was going to smell so I put that in the washer etc, etc, etc. Then when the family room looked so good I had to do the whole downstairs. So the whole downstairs is clean and one bathroom cleaned top to bottom. I have cleaning OCD once I start, but unfortunately I rarely get in that mood.

I would love to be part of this thread. I walk most days of the week. I don't like to walk outside by myself, so if my walking buddy isn't available I hit the dreadmill (aka treadmill). I live in Ohio and our central air went out yesterday morning. I m thankful the temp dropped from the low 90s to upper 70s, but the humidity has been insane! We finally got some much needed rain yesterday and today, so I was on the dreadmill twice today and walked a mile each time.

Logang, if you already call that machine 'the dreadmill', you will fit right in here!

Walked early. We were invited to spend the day with some friends, so took a break from the kitchen (and were treated to an actual home cooked meal). We are meeting with our carpenter guy tomorrow as we are not thrilled with his workmanship. There are a number of little things that will have to 'do', but a couple big things that he is going to HAVE to fix. The plumber was here 8 hours Saturday (2 of those hours undoing goofy piping done by the carpenter), so he comes back tomorrow too $$$$$. We are out of town Thursday-Saturday, so who knows how long before everything is back in place.....boo hoo!

It's back to work tomorrow for the new school year. Work will definitely curtail my walking! Back to my goal of 15K steps/da! Still haven't posted my trip photos on fb. Been a lot going on since I got home! A very full plate! It's one day at a time....

Hi dropping in with a repost from another thread, hope I don't get banned for spamming

On a mission regarding bladder control, hope I don't get banned b/c of spamming. Love ya'll

Repost from Warm and Fuzzies. not appropriate to the site , but there were a couple of bladder leaking meme's. But this is a serious story has to do with the funny one about bladder leaking. All the docs will tell you about kegels. WELL, I inadvertently found a solution if you are a swimmer.

There is a swim stroke that I can't find the name for which I learned as a kid. It's meant to be a stroke to reserve energy if lost in the water and have to swim a long distance. I have been using it more frequently b/c I had a shoulder injury and was working the deltoids.

LOANDBEHOLD. The stroke increases bladder control. Takes maybe 2-4 weeks, but dependent I'm thinking on how often you use the stroke. I vary 3 strokes for particular reasons. Then I noticed better bladder control.

It's a back stroke. You bring up the arms from the side to the top. At the same time you bring up the legs in a frog position. Then you snap them down and glide. I kept working the movement harder, to get the work out of the deltoids. Then TADA, head slap moment, I noticed I didn't have the run for the bathroom after the pool or the hitting of the air conditioning. It was AMAZING. I know this isn't a funny on a funny page, but I'm posting this in as many places as I can. So, hahahaha. Leaking is no fun hope it helps, spread the word.

Wonder - love the before and after pix - with the weather as nasty as it's been, I feel like a permanent "before" pic these days. Two - I've gotten caught in one of those cleaning cycles too - lots of work but sure satisfying when it's all done. Welcome Logang - yep, the hated dreadmill - I'm going to have to hit it this week I think as it's too hot to do anything outside. Ruth - sorry about the kitchen issues, but you knew you couldn't get away with a completely smooth project. Hope it gets resolved quickly!

Way too hot and humid to do anything outside, so we spent the weekend in the inside cleaning closets at the cabin. It's a small place so de-cluttering is a constant need. Did get a bit of outside exercise chasing off mom bear a few times but that was it. We caught a minor league ballgame Saturday night. Ruth - my history loving friend - you would have loved the giveaway at the game. It was a Woodrow Wilson bobblehead - he was President 100 years ago, and was the first President to throw out a first pitch at a World Series. The game was interrupted by a wild storm - see pic below for the menacing clouds - but it ended up being a lovely (but temporary) relief from the heat.

My sky looked just like that 30 minutes ago. Rained maybe 5 drops and now clear and blue again. Same thing yesterday but day before poured for about 45 minutes. FL weather is weird!

Wonder, love the before and after pics. Ruth, a problem-free project is no fun. You would be bound to think something was missed! Welcome to our new sculpted friends. Yes, we threaten to workout while we have fun otherwise.

Pickleball (from Wikipedia) - 'is a racquet sport that combines elements of badminton, tennis, and table tennis. The pickleball court is similar to a doubles badminton court. The actual size of the court is 20×44 feet for both doubles and singles. The court is striped like a tennis court, with no alleys. The ball, a perforated polymer ball, similar to a wiffle ball, is served (racquet similar to racquetball) with an underhand stroke so that contact with the ball is made below waist level in an upward arc from behind the baseline, diagonally to the opponent's service zone.' Apparently started out as a backyard sport for children with limited space, hence a shorter and narrower court but works really well for us seniors with shoulder and back issues and problems navigating a full tennis court. It's lots of fun.

Oh yeah, water aerobics today. Off to dinner with mysunshine and a couple of my neighbors.

    Later sculpted friends.

hi all and welcome Logang! Short walk this morning and at morning break, then took the afternoon off to take mom to a doc appt. Got back into town and dropped off my car for an oil change. It's less than a mile from the shop to my house but was drenched in Liquid Awesome by the time I got home to blessed A/C. Will have to face it again, though, to retrieve my car and pay the bill.

Good luck with the carpenter, Ruth, I know he's a friend so it will take some tact.

My walking distance the past 2 days (shopping/sight seeing) has only been a little over a mile each. My back and hips have definitely missed having my own bed. And spending too much time in a car is never good for me.

We return home tomorrow. After a day to recover, I hope to get back to my usual 2 mile walk.

    You all do motivate me!

Back from my cycling adventure to Vancouver BC. Talk about HOT!!! I still remember the trip up Finn Hill Road, where I had to get off and walk. Not to mention Route 7A in Vancouver. A few other hot areas with Day 1 being the more unbearable. One fellow rider had a temp gauge as part of his GPS device which was reading between 96 and 101F. He says it "runs hot", but I think it is measuring the REAL  temperature of the road and pavement with the sun beating down.

I did about 170 miles total as just couldn't finish Day 1. The good news is that I did that section earlier this season when it was delightful out.

A couple of fun pictures from Day 2. The first is of Mount Baker in the early day. Just so you know, a few miles from where I took this picture, we had farmland surrounded by mountains and could see all the way to the Okanogan Range. Just thrilling.

    image

And this is the Pitt River looking east just east of Vancouver. This was the second bridge where I was comfortable stopping. The Golden Ears Bridge over the Fraser River scares me to death!!! But I did make it over just fine.

    image

Glad to be home and back to reality. I did a nice walk from the YWCA to the hotel where the group was catching buses back to Seattle, so was nice coming back in air conditioned comfort. Fortunately, much cooler here today. - Claire

    Claire, gorgeous photos!

Logang, too funny about the "dreadmill". I sleep next to one, and I find it makes a very nice place to hang my clothes. Where in Ohio are you located? I live in CA, but I grew up in Shaker Heights. I'm out here taking care of my pops right now. Yes, you can cut the humidity with a knife.

Got a little pissed on this morning during my walk. No thunder or lightening, just a consistent drizzle for the last 15 minutes.

Nats, neat picture! We just ordered our Twins tickets for Labor Day weekend. Whoo Hoo! (Although ours is fireworks and 'Salute to Latin Music' night, not a Woodrow Wilson bobblehead night Happy).

    More great pictures from Claire!

No comments on the kitchen for now. WHEN it gets done, it will look really nice. Zumba and yoga tonight.
