Karen, do you HAVE osteoporosis already? And is it getting worse? or is it stable? I am NOT AT ALL an expert; but I'm more of a ' if it's not broken, don't fix it' gal. I am so sorry about your friend. I have a good friend who is struggling with more dreadful treatments vs hospice decisions right now too. Hard, hard stuff....
More scanning of books for me, The fiction is done and we are deep enough into the nonfiction that the library can open on Wednesday and I can go back to being retired! I went to a surprise birthday party after school and walked/jogged the dogs when I got home (yes, I CAN still jog if it's getting dark and the mosquitoes are coming out!).
-
Karen 1956 ouzo made his shots I'm going in for my second one at the end of October. The first one all I had was a little achiness next day and that was it. I've had absolutely no side effects since.
-
Ruth - yes, I do have osteoporosis - my last Dexa scan was a year ago. My onc brought it up today as now the research is showing benefits for survival as well as bones. I'm not making any decisions yet. I took Actonel and stopped it when I stopped AIs. I was osteopenic after chemo when I started AIs then after a year I was osteoporosis. The Actonel boosted my back to osteopenic. I've ad osteoporosis for at least 3 years if not more. I really need to weigh side effects vs benefit. Like you, I'm don't fix if it aint broken. I have a crown that needs replacing as well as a wisdom tooth that should be pulled for at least 6 - 9 months now. but since they aren't bothering I'm not doing anything. Sure don't need any problems. My oncologist is leaving the decision up to me.....He knows why I stopped the AIs after 3 1/2 years - and that was in 2010!! He always tells me to let him know if I ever want to go back on them...thank you but NO!!!
-
Argh. Several decades ago I had one wisdom tooth pulled and had so much trouble it that my other three are peacefully resting sideways in my jaw minding their own business........where they will stay forever unless they start bugging me.

I am back from NYC where I had an amazing time. Lots of walking with my top day being over 27,000 steps. I have a much better game plan going forward, and also ideas for expanding our business with my business partner. This needs to start with reshaping the website so that it reflects us better and not the third person who decided to bail.
Much as I love the city, I am not a city girl, and realize how important it is to get out in nature to recharge and stay fit. I can do that so easily where I live now. I looked across at Mt Pilchuck and just smiled when I got home yesterday. Not to mention that it was delightfully cool after 5 days of sweltering.
I can't believe that I need to get ready for my London trip.
On the Subaru discussion, mine is 15 years old and still going strong. If something happens, my next car is a Crosstrek. They are still available in a 5 speed transmission. Good news on that front is the maintenance was less than I anticipated. Had that done while I was away. However, I may need tires. Arrrrgggghhhhh!
Back to the salt mines and more work. - Claire

I FINALLY got to the gym snd did 30 min on the treadmill. 12000 steps. My hand is still very painful, and I have an inclination that I may have a fracture. I need to get to a dr.that takes workers comp.poop
-
You better get it checked out, 2FUN.
You are on the go, Claire!
I scanned books today, did two puppy walks & went to Pound. I also dragged my lined wind-pants, tights etc. out from the back of the closet as early morning walking will be rather brisk tomorrow.....and more so as the fall progresses. I am still wearing sandals during the day. Once the shoes go on, the party is over!
-
Walked with my ladies.
-
Instead of hitting the gym as usual this morning, I dug out the hiking poles and DH and I did a nice 2.6 mile hike this morning at Catoctin Mountain Park (where Camp David is located). We used to do a lot of hiking, but DH had knee surgery last year and I had knee surgery this spring, so this was the first time in a long time we’ve both been physicallable to hike. It was a bit warm and humid, but still fun. Looking forward to more hiking.
-
This is how we get our 'buns of steel'
-
I'm trying to keep up my walking... did 12000 steps on Monday.... only 5000 on Tuesday, since I had chemo.... and did 18200 today!
We went to the firest to collect some mushrooms. some of them are already eaten, the rest I am drying to save them for the winter
-
2Fun - good thoughts coming to you for no fracture and quick healing of your hand.
Natsfan- the hike sounds beaufiful, fun, and a nice way to vary a workout. Same to the walk in the forest to collect mushrooms, JaBoo.
Worked out for one hour with the trainer at the gym today. Also did about 10 minutes of Kangoo jumping. Might try another 10 or 15 minutes a little later. I just switched from tamoxifen to exemestane about 6 weeks ago. Initially felt great, but now the fatigue is starting to creep in (extreme fatigue, same as when I was on the tamoxifen). I actually took 2 naps yesterday, slept for over 2 hours!. So I am hoping that ramping up the movement/exercise will help to keep the tiredness away.

I ran 5k today in the park near my parents' home- where I grew up in NJ. I ran on the Xc team in high school and that is where we practiced. This coming Saturday is my 30 year reunion. My DS and I were in NJ touring Rutgers School of Business as he is thinking of applying there. I'm a Rutgers alum so the return to campus was flashbacks galore. I don't feel old. How could it have been that many years since I'd been there?!

Oncologist office called this morning and left a message....After so many years, I recognize the phone number and seeing the call 2 days after my visit wasn't anything good....they have a patient portal where labs are uploaded so normally they don't call. Thankfully first thing she said is tumors were all good.....My creatinine level is elevated....they want it repeated in a month...part of me is worried and the other part if not worried. Need to remember to call tomorrow to schedule the appt. next month.
-
karen, I hope all is good. Can u remind me why high creatinine is bad?
-
2Fun- it can be an indication of kidney disease. Thanks for asking.
-
karen- congrats on the tumors being all good. Hopefully when they redo your lives your creatinine level will be back to normal. It is scary.
-
Hope the test was just a flunk, Karen. Lots of benign factors can make lab numbers jump around.
We've had a COLD rain falling all day. I turned on heat and wore real shoes, sigh! I went and scanned more books today, I'll go back tomorrow too but then have to be done because I have other stuff going on. My yoga class was cancelled so I did a yoga DVD at home. DS got back from his trip last night so I was relieved of my dog walking responsibilities.
-
ruth- I want your cold weather for a few days. It was 100 degrees at 6 p.m. tonight with humidity. . So I'm a little jealous of your cold rain.
-
Hi Everyone. Just a quick stop by. We didn't have any damage from Hurricane Florence. I feel so bad for the eastern part of the state. There has been flooding in my county and surrounding counties but absolutely nothing like the coast.
I had a trip scheduled to go to Hilton Head, SC (they didn't have any damage) with my 2 sisters and SIL for this week. So, I'm in Hilton Head now! Been biking, beach walking, ocean swimming, pool swimming, and even played some pool! I do feel guilty being in paradise while others have lost so much............
-
Had my TSH again....had weird scores the beginning of August....two sets of weird numbers, but now more normal so hoping the same with creatinine.
DD#1 and SIL arrive tomorrow morning for a week.
I've been working Fridays to make up time I'm taking off for all the holidays...Now I remember why I only work 4 days/week!!!! No time to do anything working 5 days/week. I made this comment several months ago to my son and his response was you were younger when you worked full time and didn't have bc. Smart kid!!! Of course, he's no longer at kid at 29, but he's my kid.
Sweet dreams

I’m back, can’t believe it’s been a month since I’ve been here, I couldn’t remember my sign in I’ll admit it took me about 6 goes to get back in. I was dealing with an awful sciatica problem and then I had a houseguest from Australia for two weeks but finally back at it. I couldn’t get a doctors appointment till November and I’m glad I’ve kept it cause my sciatica is flaring again, I take a dance class on Monday and the instructor is a physical therapist and as we walked out of the gym she said that my walking gait indicates it’s my hip that is the problem. Body Step class tonight, now I’ve got to go read back 10 pages, it feels good to be back, missed you all.

Hi Cheryl!
-
Hi everyone! Good vibes to all who have friends/family in harms way and hoping they are safe!
Admiring everyone keeping up with their exercise. I just upped my fitbit goals to 4 miles/9300 steps per day (which apparently due to tiny steps is what I need to walk to clock 4 miles!
I've been exceeding that several days a week recently, but for those tougher days don't want to feel like I missed goal by so much. On a much longer term note, the other day my fitbit awarded me the India badge. Apparently my steps have hit the length of walking across India. Having never contemplated it, I'll take their word for it! LOL!
One month into Arimidex and doing pretty well so far. I had a bone scan which showed Osteopenia but I had some of that 10 years ago on an earlier scan, so pumping the Vitamin D and trying to get some sun on walks.
Wishing everyone a great weekend.
-
Wonder - glad you’re safe and sound. As you said, so many have lost so much.
Good to see you Cheryl!
Cardio circuit today at the gym.
-
cheryl-nice to hear from you again.
Wonder- it's nice you care about the people who have lost so much. It's also important for you to relax and take care of yourself.
-
just a thought from my oncologist yesterday, which makes me think I need to increase my exercise intensity. Dr said you need to get MINIMUM 2.5 hrs of exercise a week defined as exercise that is so vigerous that you can talk but not sing as you exercise. Our AI class is emphasizing resistance exercise, so I'm doing fast reps with light weights for 10 or so minutes a few times a day
I'm doing aerobic trim painting tomorrow!
-
School, took a walk with a friend, cleaned the house, and need to squeeze a little toning in.
-
Wonderland, glad to hear all is well, but that storm did sound scary. Nats, thanks for the tip on the animal shelter. We had our eyes on one but he was given to someone else who already owned a dog all of a sudden. (We are first timers.) DD is heartbroken. I thought it was funny though that some of these dogs from other parts of Europe carry EU passports. Welcome back, Cheryl! 2Fun, those fast reps with light weights (also known as biking) worked for my knees.
Going on a 4-hour bike ride today so gotta get going...
-
Heidihill, you and your biking, I love the idea of your bike rides! Am imagining your views! I live in hills all right, but nothing like the Alps, of course.
So far, I'm trying to keep up my walking. I'm striving to get my weekly average over 10000 steps. The chemo days are always very low, and I'm on weekly chemo now. This week, my average is 9800steps.
