Capecod - I had knee surgery this spring too so I feel your pain. My physical therapy is done, and I'm at the point now of getting back some muscle strength and endurance. I'm also working on active balance (while moving, jumping, etc.)with a half ball and therapy pad. Your Kangoo Jumps sound perfect for that!
It's finally not raining for the first time in days! It's still overcast and gloomy, but no rain. Hooray!! Strength training circuit at the fitness center today. No disagreements about TV channels today - everyone was glued to the Weather Channel.
-
Lilac: Sending a healing HUG your way and hoping the MRI results give you answers.
Good to see you again Capecod.
Hi All! Finished staining the deck. Been walking/running. We live in the piedmont area in North Carolina and preparing for Hurricane Florence. It's coming and everyone is very nervous. We will probably get lots of rain, wind, trees down, power lines down, etc. I'm supposed to go to Hilton Head, SC next week - we'll see. My beautiful grandmother was named Florence and I hate that this monster storm is called Florence.
-
Wonderland, I hope Hurricane Florence is not too bad for you there inland.
Lilac hope you are better soon.
Heidi cute picture of you and the duck.
Capecodgirl I havent heard of a Kanga jump but it sure sounds fun. Let us know.
I walked 50 minutes yesterday. Today just 15, and did some dumbell exercises-arms, back, chest.

Pound tonight.

I had a great day, and at the end of the day one of my students, who rarely gets aggressive got mad and exploded. I got pulled down a few times, and I can't say I even remember what I might have done right or wrong. I'm bruised and sore, so no exercising for me. My top got ripped, so they will buy me a new one. A bit bummed out b/c I made it. So no exercise for me tonight. Maybe tomorrow. Poor kid. I feel for these kids and their parent when they just can't control whatever is going on in their body/brain.tomorrow I'll exercise extra hard

Sorry, meant to edit the above and deleted instead. Hang on Wonderland. 2FUN, what a difficult day at work, hope today is better.
Interesing link to article stating women in the UK are living shorter lives on average than most of their counterparts in Europe,: "It is certainly of concern that we have worse outcomes than other European countries," he added. "We tend to do badly in men with respiratory disease and in women with cancer, especially breast cancer. It is a sign of the numbers developing disease." https://www.theguardian.com/society/2018/sep/11/british-women-live-shorter-lives-than-most-other-europeans

Wonderland, stay safe. I have friends and relatives in Fayetteville. I checked in with all of them last night and they are all prepared. Told them I would pray for them all and to take care.
Going to get my workout done pretty soon. Hubby noticed that I am looking a bit thinner than I was three weeks ago.
-
claire- you know it's a good thing when you have to replace your running shoes. Keep up the good work.
-
Thanks for the welcome back Wonderland and Twohobbies.
Walked 5 miles this morning. Hoping to get some strength training/ stability ball workout in later. Will see how it goes timewise.
I am officially 8 pounds heavier still than I was 6 months ago. Eagerly tracking and awaiting the arrival of my Kangoo Jumps. I am hoping they will be so much fun that I will want to use them all the time! Have a good day all, and for those in the path of the storm, stay safe.
-
Wonderland, stay safe! Mommy, congrats on seeing the effects of your workouts. Capecod, that's a lot of surgery. But looks like you have your recovery in good hands. Can't wait to hear what you think of Kangoo jumping. Nats, it's been a long haul for you, too. Glad you are bouncing back. Claire, have fun with the new shoes. 2fun, you are strong, at least inside, to do what you do. LB, just hate that those numbers are going up instead of down. What will it take to flip this around?
Got some steps in getting DD new running shoes and bras. Now she's got her support in the appropriate places.
-
HeidiHill, your last sentence 😀😀
-
2Fun- I understand where you're coming from. I'm an occupational therapist who currently works with adults with developmental disabilities. There are times I will have a very aggressive client and after the episode the look of confusion on their face is heartbreaking. I feel for the kids and their family because it is so sad. The family also recognizes the danger their loved one puts himself and others in. It isn't easy

Got my DEXA results - normal! Just barely within normal range, but I’ll take that. Now that I’m off AIs and doing weights regularly, I’m hoping to nudge those T-values up a bit. Dentist appt today interfered with normal gym time, so I took the opportunity to do a nice long yin yoga session instead. Feels good to get loosened up.
-
Hope everything was settled down today, 2FUN. That is a scary situation.
Great news on the DEXA, Nats!
I've had a busy couple days. Tuesday I scanned books in the tomorrow and gave a talk about Presidential Trivia to a Red Hat Ladies group. This morning I gave a presentation about Theodore Roosevelt, concentrating on his time in the Badlands to the North Dakota Retired Teachers Convention and scanned books all afternoon. Dance2Fit tonight.
-
I went to yoga class this evening.
Mommyof2- congrats on the weight loss!
2Fun- I'm sorry to hear about the incident at school. That is so hard. Xo
-
Thanks gals! I had originally set a goal of losing 10 lbs. in a month and then my hubby said that I shouldn't push myself so hard to lose the weight that fast. So I adjust my goal to 10 lbs. by my birthday!
-
Cardio circuit today.
Small rant ahead: I've been reading a lot of mystery books lately- with all the rain, curling up with a good book is about all one can do! Yesterday I checked out an author I hadn't read before. I was so annoyed when I finished the book. The book kept referring to events that had occurred to the protagonist in previous books, but the book never recapped what exactly happened in those previous events. Yet the reader had to understand those previous events to understand the current book! I knowthat characters continue through various books, but usually authors give you a thumbnail description of important events in previous books if they relate to the current book. Each book should function as a standalone book - the reader should not be expected to have read all the previous books in order to understand the current book! OK, off my soapbox!

Ran for 25 minutes today, with a few minute break to sweat and agonize over my legs, which are currently covered in a poison ivy rash. Waaah. Made itchier by sweat. My first time! Thought I was immune. Oh well.
-
School today. We are going to a volleyball game tonight so I did a 45 minute toning DVD & am now going to jump on the treadmill before we go.
-
Falconer-oh no! I’m horribly reactive to poison ivy, so I know what misery you’re in. If you’re really suffering, get to your dermatologist pronto. They have prescription stuff that’s much stronger than anything you can get OTC. My dermatologist routine gives me a scrip in the spring cuz living in the woods, I always seem get into it. Also, take Benedryl. If it makes you too sleepy during the day, you can at least take it at night. Also, not sure if this is doctor approved, but you can get lidocaine creme OTC. Applying that to the rash can help stop the itch a bit, but if you have a bad case check with your dermatologist first.

2Fun...it is so hard when our students have such a hard time.....and to be assaulted stinks. I remember many, many years ago, maybe 35, I worked in a sheltered workshop and got too close to a new teen and got socked in the eye before I knew what happened. I never made the same mistake with that young man. Fortunately, it wasn't bad. I've had some elementary students who have been aggressive - kicking, hitting, biting etc.
Short on steps that past 2 days. Yesterday, DD#2 and I went to see the Sound of Music on the big screen. It has been my favorite movie since it came out in 1965. So much fun. Today, I had to pick up DH at the airport so no walk after work....Got to get back to my 15K steps.
DD#2 leaves on Sunday to go back home to Israel. It has been a wonderful month with her. She is so much fun to hang out with. Gd willing, I'll go see her during winter break.
Monday I have my 6 month check up with my onc.....
I'm tired tonight...was up at 5am...Sweet dreams....
-
Going to do a workout today and skip working out tomorrow as I am going to a friend's wedding.
-
Question: I have been tracking my steps at work (teacher) and I have been hitting 10,000 steps every day this week. Does this count as my exercise for the day or should I add some aerobics (if I am not too tired when I get home)? Just wondering about your thoughts on the subject. Thanks!
-
Good morning all-
Natsfan, great news on your dexa scan! Heidihill- so glad dd has all the right support!. 2fun, so sorry for you for the incident at school. Also it breaks my heart for the student and their family. I hope you are feeling better.
Got my Kanga Jumps late yesterday, but had company coming for dinner so was not able to use them. Did a workout video this morning that I found on You Tube (an hour long) and it was so much fun. I did a lot of modifying because it was hard and I was trying to stay balanced (good for the core). Interestingly at the end of the video we did lying down legs lifts and other strengthening exercises with the boots on. It was a great workout and I am happy. The boots are really comfortable, and I did not feel any stress on my knees and lower back. The instructors make it look really easy-- believe me it is not. I am looking forward to getting better at it. Anything that is different and fun to spice up a workout is good.

PeregrineLady --- that´s what I am wondering too... I am sometimes hitting 15000 steps a day just doing what I usually do. I asked here and was told maybe I could add some toning exercise, which I consider a good advice.... But I just wasn´t able to do that yet - I am still in chemo. So I just walk for now, I will deffinitely add some toning/yoga/pilates later. Oh, and I try to do some part of my usuall steps quite brisk. My fitbit sometimes shows I have been running - which I never do. But the brisk walking is maybe enough?
-
Nats: Congratulations on your DEXA scan!
Falconer: Hope you only have a little poison ivy. DS, DD, and I get it so bad that we have to go to the doctor for steroids. I try to avoid it like the plague but I also know it's a sneaky plant and sometimes you just don't see it.
Capecod: The Kanga Jumps look so easy but, like you said, I'm sure they aren't until you get the hang of them.
Mommy: Have fun at the wedding!
Hi Everyone! So far we only have gusts of wind from Hurricane Florence. I live in the piedmont area of NC. Her course prediction has changed and as of right now, we will see the worst starting tomorrow. Yesterday we picked up my dh's 96 year old aunt to stay with us until the storm is over. She lives by herself and is amazing. Full mental capacity, gets around good, excellent appetite. I want to be her when I grow up!
My SIL's mother lives in New Bern, NC which is getting hit hard with flooding. Last Monday her mother (who lives by herself) had a pace maker put it and was in the hospital for 2 day. Thank goodness my SIL (who lives in my town) brought her mother back here to be safe (at least safer).
Stay safe everyone!
-
I plan on having fun! Heard from both my friends and family in NC. They both have power for now and are okay.
-
Jaboo and Peregrin, I too am in the schools. I strive for 15K/day. That includes work and walks. Some days I don't get enough steps in during the work day. But I love my walks, especially before school and after dinner. Very therapeutic for me. I try to get out of the building most days for 15-20 minutes, but it doesn't always work out.
Happy Friday!

Hello. I know this is an exercise board but I was just wondering if any of you ladies who have been out of treatment for a while that are taking Anastrozole still dealing with the joint pain that it causes? I've been on it 2 months now and the arm that I had my lymph nodes taken out of my wrist aches all the time especially at night when I'm trying to sleep. I take my pill before I go to bed at night.
