Let's Post our Daily Exercise

Welcome new members. Congrats Falconer, what a nice thing to do with your daughter. Tulips are stunning Clare.
I've been trying to get back on the exercise wagon, just lazy really. My hip has been acting up again (I suspect arthritis, family condition), so I am making an effort to do Classical Stretch again every day, which really helps with those aches and pains. Like you Badger I've been cleaning, clearing the corner of the attic of our garage - lots of things there from my Mom, so sometimes it is slow going as I reminisce. #2DS made me promise this weekend to go to the gym today, so I am headed there in a bit to do some weight work and treadmill. Another thing I thought I would give a try is something that popped up on my weight watcher newsletter - 30 day push up challenge. Not what you think - but going from no pushups to being able to do pushups in 30 days, program includes wall sits, planks, squats, and arm work. One thing I lose first by not going to the gym is arm strength, so I thought this would be a nice addition to my routine.
Got a message from an old college friend who is just beginning her breast cancer journey. We had reconnected through facebook recently, and I shared that I had also been on that journey. I told her about the forums at BCO and how helpful they were to me when I was newly diagnosed. I just hate that yet another woman I know had to join this club.
OK - off to the gym!
-
Pat01 - sorry to hear about your college friend! Ugh. The older I get - the more I hear about people getting cancer (including myself - LOL). It seems like an epidemic these days. I too hate seeing more ladies having to join our unlucky club...but glad your friend has you!!!
As for me - took a break from working-out yesterday (first break in 18 days!!) but felt like my muscles/work-outs were beginning to get stale...so decided to rest and catch up on house-work instead. Found LOTS of dust-bunnies in my house! So much that I could have made a dust-bunny farm out of them...haha!
Going to "Insanity" tonight!!! I love my instructor - she pushes us hard, but makes it fun - at the same time...
-
Thanks for the kind words. Apparently there was a photographer at the race (you can see I don't do this) and I received a bunch of photos via email from the finish. I am smiling from ear to ear. That's the best thing about exercise, right? Free mood elevator!
Ran three miles today. -
great job on the run falconer
My knee is still on the fritz. Its a bit unstable when I am weight bearing on it. Im giving it another week.
Karen, what job do you have that you are involved with IEPs and an intern (related service provider like me?)
-
A quick check in. I subbed yesterday and today. Last night I did Zumba and Yoga. Tonight I will go to POUND. I am not letting myself linger on the computer until I get a whole stack of papers off the kitchen table!!!!
-
Hi All,
Ruthbru - What is POUND?
Did Stationary bike for 20 min and 1/2 hr "Insanity" class.
New moves last night - rotating jump squats and burpees galore!!!! I don't know why - but - I love that stuff so much!!!
-
Here's POUND:
THE WORKOUT
Instead of listening to music, you become the music in this exhilarating
full-body workout that combines cardio, conditioning, and strength training
with yoga and pilates-inspired movements. Using Ripstix®, lightly weighted
drumsticks engineered specifically for exercising, POUND transforms
drumming into an incredibly effective way of working out.Designed for all fitness levels, POUND® provides the perfect atmosphere for
letting loose, getting energized, toning up and rockin' out! The workout is
easily modifiable and the alternative vibe and welcoming philosophy appeals
to men and women of all ages and abilities. -
WHY IT WORKS
+ Each 2-4 minute song is carefully calibrated with interval peaks and extended fat burning sequences, providing you with the best workout in the shortest span of time. After you're done rocking out in a 45-minute POUND class, you'll have completed up to 15,000 reps, performed over 30 extended interval peaks, and zipped through more than 70 techniques without even realizing it.
+ Numerous studies have proven the powerful brain-boosting, stress-relieving effects of drumming. The rhythm of drumming permeates the entire brain to improve focus, increase higher-level thinking and decision-making skills, boost the immune system, lower blood pressure, decrease chronic pain, anxiety, and fatigue.
+ You'll burn up to 900+ calories per hour, strengthen and sculpt infrequently used muscles, and drum your way to a leaner, stronger physique – all while rocking out to your favorite music!
+ You'll drastically improve your rhythm, timing, coordination, speed, agility, endurance, and musicality. Instead of counting reps or keeping track of the clock, POUND strategically distracts you from the high-intensity and duration of your workout, and shifts your focus to rhythm and volume. This strategic distraction is responsible for the "addictiveness" of POUND – the reason you can't stay away!

pound looks great!
My knee is still bugging me so I did 40 minutes of exercises in the pool. Better than nothing.
-
2FUN - I'm a School Psychologist. My intern is graduating with her Ph.D. in School Psych next month. What is your position. Its funny, I've been a School Psych since before some of the teachers I work with were born or they were toddlers!!!
-
A middle age guy tried out POUND tonight & afterwards told the teacher it was the best workout he's had since he wrestled in college!!!
-
karen, I'm a school PT right now. I've only been there 5 years. Did lots of other stuff for the last 30 years. I have my last CSE meetings next week! Yay! 70% of my caseload were re-evals this year. I am now trying to plan for next year!
Ruth, how do I find out if anyone does POUND near me. I googled it and nothing local shows up
-
You could call the gyms/fitness centers in your area and ask. If nobody does, maybe suggest that they might want to get someone certified and say, "If they are offering Pound in North Dakota (the end of the earth to many people), why on earth can we not offer it here?"
-
POUND is a good cardio workout and I'm certified to teach. There are good reasons why it is not everywhere here. I could not find any gym around here that would let me teach it so most classes here are offered freelance in halls. My problem with it was in order to put the class together, you have to read drum music and/or watch class footage repeatedly and one needs to be within wifi distance (for me that would have to be home) to see the footage as there is no downloading of videos or app (like I can/have with Les Mills). I found the time to learn/practice (with little or no real-time support) took up too much time and limited. There is also the £20 a month fee to deliver it and be listed on the website and have access to the different routines, many newly uploaded monthly. The green, plastic weighted ripstix are expensive and I have the cheapest set - 15 that cost over £300. Over here you have to pay a music license (PPL) to use original artist music (which POUND uses) when freelancing in rented halls. Just one class a week in a hall for a year, once a week and taking off holidays, round it to 40 classes that comes to £150+ a year. Forgot to add advertising costs. For the love of it, gotta have that.
-
lilac, thanks for the logistical info. It's offered about 60 miles from me. Reality is I can barely walk these days, I shouldn't be worried about a new class!
-
Wow! POUND looks Great!!! Thanks for sharing that!!!
-
Been somewhat more active - Monday went to the gym for weights and cardio, then came home and did classical stretch. Yesterday helped DH with firewood for an hour, definitely counting that as exercise. (How many times do you touch a piece of firewood before you actually burn it?) Though raining today, nicer weather has finally arrived in New England, making me want to be outside more. Promised DS2 I would go to the gym tomorrow, he's so sweet wanting me to get 30 minutes a day of exercise.
-
Geez, I guess we are really lucky to have Pound here. Two gyms in town offer it and each has several certified teachers. Since I love it, I bought my own sticks, which cost $17.00 on Amazon, which I didn't think was too bad. I put colored duct tape on them to make them mine.
WWW declared 'spring' and walked outside today. A pretty cool morning, as you can see by our attire; but sunny and not windy so it felt good.
-
I was feeling very sluggish today so I finally went out for a run, which ended up being in rain showers, ending up at Trader Joe's so I got some weight lifting in as well! My legs weren't really feeling it, but it was pretty pleasant out, not chilly, and I went up on the Highline for a change of pace and that was awfully nice. (The rain kept the tourists to a minimum.) I'm trying to build up a bit of a routine again before I start radiation in a few weeks so I have a base built.
-
Hi everyone!
Falconer....yep exercise=INSTANT mood improvement! The days its hard to get going I tell myself "you have never finished a run, workout, etc.and regretted doing it you only regret that you didn't do one! "
Ruth...POUND looks great!I
2fun...hope that knee improves soon!
Great job on all the workouts and exercise to all of you!
I ran 3 miles on Monday and just got in from a 4 mile run this evening. Also did 20 min of core/an work on bossu ball this afternoon. Last night I used my 60 min gift certificate i won at the benefit last month for a private yoga lesson! It was AWESOME! I loved the instructor and signed up for her Monday night yoga class next week . They also have a Thursday night yoga sculpt class I am going to try. I can't get there tomorrow but planning to go next week.It includes lots of jumping jacks, burpees, etc. I can't wait!
-
Dance Attack tonight, hungry and tired (good tired!).
-
I just saw this on Facebook and thought it was too good not to share:
-
One more:
-
Ruth - two great posts!
-
Falconer: Fabulous picture of you and your dd! Congratulations on the run!
Ruth: Love the sayings.
Badger: Dh is going to Merlefest tomorrow for the entire time. I am going up only for Friday music and spending the night. I want to see Jamey Johnson and Rodney Crowell.
Hi Everybody! I walked/ran yesterday and today. This Sunday I'm going to the beach with girlfriends and will return Wednesday. Can't wait!
-
Six-month follow-up with onc yesterday, all is well. Two more years of anastrozole. He didn't mention a DEXA scan and I didn't ask but did stop at the gym on the way home.
The power company came today and took down half a dying maple tree that was growing into the power line in front of the house. Appreciate the free service but they left a mess. Spent two hours cleaning up - hauling branches to the curb by the side lawn (where there's no sidewalk). The city will come around with a wood chipper but they want a neat pile.
Wonderland, enjoy Merlefest!! I have tix to see Hot Rize on 5/5 at the Stoughton Opera House. I think they're at MF this year, too.
-
Ruth, lovely posts, thanks!!
Badger, are you doing ten years of AIs or did you do Tamoxifen first? Glad your MO follow up was good!
Runner, sounds like a very active week- perfect for spring.
Wonder, you are lucky to have so much fun ahead!
Chelsea, good luck with rads when they start. Don't put too much pressure on yourself- whatever movement you do is great!
Yoga class last night for me. Today is poem in your pocket day. So here's one for y'all:
i thank You God for most this amazing
day:for the leaping greenly spirits of trees
and a blue true dream of sky;and for everything
which is natural which is infinite which is yes
(i who have died am alive again today,
and this is the sun's birthday; this is the birth
day of life and love and wings and of the gay
great happening illimitably earth)
how should tasting touching hearing seeing
breathing any-lifted from the no
of all nothing-human merely being
doubt unimaginable You?
(now the ears of my ears awake and
now the eyes of my eyes are opened)
e e cummings
-
falconer, thanks for the poem, ee Cummings is a family favorite!
Thanks ruth for the encouraging phrases
I realized yesterday I am slipping into the emotional grey/blue shades. Can't tell if it's the aromasin or my orthopedic issues. I had my Therapeutic Crisis Intervention training this week. Yesterday we got to all of the holds or restraints when a child is a danger to themselves or others. I couldn't even remotely do it, and I'm sitting it out. Depressing to be the one sitting out.
Will go to the pool tonight. Anyone recommend a good core workout that can be done without getting on the floor. ??? I am at a loss right now!
Thanks ladies for pusing me along!

2FUN : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZ-RKEM43hw and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SRq7XtDW0wg Standing Pilates also helps build bone density. Falconer, thanks for the poem. Ruth, you do have so much available - great! Wonderland have super time at the beach! Filmed a friend this morning who went through LM Barre and needed to send in her one track and she did not fully pass her IMT last weekend. Need to change and then driving down to the white cliffs for Bodybalance. Let's keep at it!
-
Jealous of the beach, Wonderland!
Love the poem, Falconer.
I subbed today (6th grade ......if you haven't been around kids for awhile, 6th graders are weird!). I then walked the grand-puppies and am off to yoga in a couple minutes.
