Wow! Been off of here for a month. So much to catch up on. I skimmed through and agree that Falconer's post summed it up well. I am so thankful for the support of this group!

It has been a strange month of ups and downs. Celebrated DD's best friend's wedding in SC and had a great weekend there. Lost 2 friends to cancer and their memorial services were on the same day 1 hour apart. Emotionally exhausting. Celebrated my youngest daughter's graduation from college. So joyful!

I have been keeping up with my Zumba class a couple times a week but that is all I have been able to fit in. 3 more weeks till school is out and I can catch my breath.

Falconer- wishing you a smooth surgery and recovery

Varga, I don't think I could keep up with you. I am in more the 70,000-80,000 range (although my last week's report said I only got 36,000 points.......which is not right, I wonder if I was running around with a dead battery & didn't know it or something?!).

Ginger, so sorry about your friends and happy about the wedding & graduation. Lots of ups and downs, for sure.

Ginger, good to see you posting and I'm too sorry about the loss of your friends. Falconer & Octo, terrific photos. Falconer, teachers are awesome - you are in my thoughts today and sending healing love and light for a smooth and rapid full recovery. Of to figure out what to have for dinner, such as pull something out of the freezer or buy.

    Pilates mid-day.

Octogirl - what a picture - hope you are enjoying every minute of your vacation

Falconer - thinking of you today

Music fest was interesting - enjoyed the music and being with my family, but in my opinion fest was poorly run - oversold so lines for food vendors were an hour long! No obvious trash pickup, so bins were overflowing by mid afternoon. No designated lanes for emergencies or foot traffic, everyone just went wherever they want to. No chairs or blankets allowed, so way too much standing. But lots of dancing exercise! My favorites were Brandi Carlisle, Nathaniel Ratliffe and the Night Sweats, and Mumford and Sons. Was great to catch up with my niece who had breast cancer, she is doing well other than not being able to sleep well on letrazole. She looked so cute rocking her one-inch long grey hair! I spent the night at my brothers house and took a cough medicine that must have had a stimulant in it - I barely got 3 hours sleep. Drove home Sunday to find hubby back from his trip, but we had to turn around and go to a friend's retirement party. Needless to say I was a wet blanket with my cold and exhaustion. Took it easy yesterday and I'm feeling a bit better today. And I think I see the sun! First time in a week. Hoping to get a walk in later today.

You better zonk out a little, Pat. I hate when I pay good money and something is poorly run. GRRRR!

Half an hour of toning & the same on the dreadmill. Still cool and wet here today.

Hi all. Always good to come on this thread. Varga, no way I can get anywhere near your fitbit numbers and I'm always behind ruthbru. My activities don't really rack up steps. Did pickleball this morning, may do line dancing and this will probably be a good 'step' day as have my Walk Away the Pounds class tonight so will be good. Falconer loved your heartfelt post a few days ago and praying for a good outcome from your surgery. Wonderful pictures Octogirl.

Know that you are all thought of fondly as even though I'm not here everyday I do think of this thread often.

    Later sculpted friends.

vargadoll, you energizer bunny!! Your daily steps are like my weekly numbers, lol!!! Actually, my Fitbit has been in a drawer since diagnosis, so maybe it's time to brush the cobwebs off and start using it again. I'd sure be curious what one of my spin class racks up! I'll let you know once I find it/charge it/ wear it. You may be just the inspiration I need, dear friend!!

Ginger I definitely understand how you feel. I will be attending one of my co-workers funeral tomorrow. We found out about her death amid several graduation ceremonies. Poignant that as we celebrate milestones in young peoples lives we also have older ones leave us.

i just read that Olivia Newton-John has breast cancer recurrence after 25 years. On the one hand I would be thrilled to have 25 cancer free years, but gee, ir doesnt seem fair to never be free.

I am waiting for my hubby to go for our walk. Waiting..

    Hi everyone,

Finally catching up after a two-week whirlwind of events, lots going on, and then a mad dash across the Cascade Mountains for a spot of vineyard camping and cycling. We had the most glorious weather for Memorial Day Weekend, but back to the chilly drizzle. It was so hot cycling on Saturday that I had to dash under irrigation sprinklers to cool down, and I think that one of them contained a bit of "organic fertilizer" in the mixture. It was a crop of gorgeous alfalfa! I am the proud owner of an air mattress as couldn't hack the yoga mat any more for sleeping in my tent. Other vineyard campers were owners of a distillery in Seattle. It was so fun being at the vineyard, and the scenery is truly magical.

Pictures later. Right now, I am on my work computer as I am doing system restore (again) on my personal computer. Software conflict, and I can't open my email program. Hoping this second restore point actually works. This, before all the misery caused by trying to add a gmail account to Outlook. (Don't ask.) Plus, my home internet is down so why doing it here in the office.

One bit of amazing luck was that I noticed a flat just before doing yesterday's ride. One of the infamous Eastern Washington thorns. I grudgingly took my wheel and tire over to a picnic table to change the tube....and guess what??? The guy in the Subaru asked if he could help as he is a BIKE MECHANIC. Not to mention a bit of eye candy!!! Can a girl be this lucky?

I only did about 30 hours of whirlwind as wanted to get back and catch up with that tip, otherwise known as my apartment. Major headway with items such as laundry (note reference to "organic fertilizer" above), and scarves/jewelry. All was going ducky until my internet died..... Then the gmail account took out Outlook, but fortunately after I sent out a couple of critical emails.

    Still working on it.......

Thought of Badger as a couple scurried past during my walk in the vineyard Sunday morning. Wonderful light, but already hot. New grapes have been planting and I got to meet the new winemaker who is now part of the winemaking. So much fun. Got to meet their new black kitty, Syrah, who is quite the young man. Just a magical and fun time.

Promise pix, now that I have a bit more time. And I will also be able to log in more frequently, or at least once my computer is fixed. - Claire

Good to see you again Claire - I remember your posts about all the mouthwatering meals you make.

Exercise yesterday consisted of 20 minutes classical stretch, and mowing the lawn. Guess what, it's raining again here. It has been this way for days now. If the showers let up I need to go do some weeding. My one very exciting find yesterday was bluebirds nesting in our yard. Hubby built me a couple of nesting boxes last winter, and by golly a pair of bluebirds are using one! They still haven't found our mealworm feeder, but they seem pretty content with their "home". Such beautiful birds!

Wow Ruth, what a super place to work out, love the big windows and you ladies look happy and dressed more for summer. Falconer, thinking of you with recovery moving forward, day-by-day and hoping you are liking and getting used to your new breast. Claire, liked that the bike fixit guy showed up at the right moment - yes, do post photos. Cheryl, where are you? I'm on a course for exercise for older populations in general and for pilates. One of the first things to go physically when elderly is loss of joint range of dorsiflexion, hence falls. I find it interesting. Anyway, covering classes and my own this term break, son home studying alone and with friends, dog has decided that this good weather is too much of a good thing, so peed and pooped in the house yesterday twice, to prove who is boss~sigh.

    Body Balance tonight.

That's why it is vitally important for people to add exercises like yoga, pilates etc. as they age. Those of us who are already doing them will be ahead of the game.

Looking forward to the pictures, Claire.

    Thinking of you, Falconer.

    ×

Cheryl was in Las Vegas; so I don't know if she won her fortune and is off on a world tour, or is washing dishes in the casino kitchen to pay off her bill.

Naughty dog, Lilac. To celebrate summer, my very crabby 18 year old cat is waking up about 6am and wanders through the house yowling to be let outside, after about 15 minutes he starts yowling to be let back in. Then, after the whole house is astir, he takes a 2 hour nap on the couch....

I am about to do some abs right now. There is a new exercise studio opening in town so I am going to check it out at their Open House tonight and stay for a free Zumba class. It is pretty spendy, but I might buy a summer pass so I can do some group classes until the community fitness center opens in the fall. I miss my Zumba!

Pat - how exciting about the bluebirds! We saw a bluebird checking out one of our boxes at the cabin last weekend, so hopefully we'll find out this weekend if they decided to move in. Ruth - the new community center looks wonderful! Is it a complete community center with meeting and event rooms, or strictly a fitness center? Also, it sounds like after 18 years your cat has you well-trained to cater to his every whim. They do that, don't they? LOL on the mental image of Cheryl washing dishes at the casino kitchen - probably to in time to music from the the latest exercise release. Falconer - hope your recovery is going well, although it never goes as fast as we want it to.

On the topic of Harriet Tubman replacing Jackson on the $20 - unfortunately it's not a done deal yet. While the replacement process started under the previous administration is moving forward, the current administration has the power to stop it. And as you may know, the current president has often voiced his admiration for Jackson, and has called the idea of putting Harriet Tubman on the $20 as "political correctness run amuck" so it may not happen after all, or at least during this administration. I'll be keeping an eye out for updates on the process.

I've been keeping up with my PT and my trips to the fitness center. I've finally worked my way back up to being able to run for 30 minutes after getting deconditioned post-surgery. I've entered a 5K on the 11th. It's one of the races where I age-medaled last year, so I have a third-place finish to defend!

Finally, we're having some sunny weather! I plan to get out for a long walk later today to enjoy it.

Mary, hope your bluebirds decided to stay at the cabin. This is the first time ever we have had them, and I'm so excited. I'm also hoping to attract Orioles this year, have a big bright orange nectar feeder out, but so far the only interest is hummingbirds.

Did some classical stretch this morning, then a couple of hours of gardening. The sun is out! I think we had rain every day for about 11 days straight. Now I'm off to do more planting as there is t-storms predicted for later.

Hahahaha I'm back from Vegas and yes I'd be washing up not world travelling, lost my money but had fun, I went with my neighbor who is a "high roller" OMG I sat with her as she played $25.00 a hand video poker and there is no way I could never be a gambler, I'd lose $20 and stop for a few hours but she sits for hours and hours, one of the perks was we went to see Jennifer Lopez and she was absolutely amazing, it was a fantastic show, that girl can certainly sing and dance. While we were there we ate at Gordon Ramsay Burger, and that was probably the best hamburger I've ever had. All the time we were their my friend kept complaining about her sciatica and she went and got hot compress packs and kept applying them and driving home she was in agony, so went to the walk in clinic, they sent us to the emergency room, turns out she has a full blown case of shingles.

Thinking of you Falconer and sending you gentle (((hug))). Since I got back I've done a Body Combat, Grit and CX Works class but sheesh my knees are hurting so I need to start the glucosamine again - that is if I can remember.

wow! Lots going on! You girls are so active with real exercise. I just run around like a mad women. Cleaning and chasing grandkids. I get alot of step delivering Meals on Wheels to. I do an apartment complex so I am walking to deliver not drive house to house like most routes. I heading out in a few to get my hair cut. I never really cut more than a half inch and after the cancer diagnosis I haven't had it cut. I was afraid that I would need chemo so I wasn't about to cut it! I'm anxious to shape it up. Them maybe I will shape the rest of me up! Hahahaha!

Annoyingboob - dust that fitbit off and make me move more!! School will be out soon and I will be able to run in the mornings since I won't be doing the drop off pick up with my number 1 grandson.

    Hi Sisters,
I have enjoyed your wit and kind words very much. I'd like to join in but anesthesia and pain meds always fog my mind. I did have daily exercise- tour around floor 5 today with Michele, the day nurse. It took us twenty minutes to go twenty yards. The DIEP looks good, though, winks at me like an eye when the nurse uncovers it, says, you got this, girl.

Cheryl: Glad you had a good time in LV. Sorry about your friend. I know she was in a lot of pain.

Pat: We also have bluebirds in one of our houses. I haven't seen the babies yet but I hear them beckoning for mama and daddy birds to feed them.

Falconer: I remember my first hallway walk after my diep. I begged the nurse to let me go back to my bed but she made me keep walking. May you keep improving daily.

M0mmy: Good job on your gazelle. We used to have one so I know that 30 minutes on it is a good workout.

Nats: You quickly went from deconditioned back to conditioned. Good luck defending your title on the 11th!

Varga: Do you like you haircut?

Claire: Please post pictures when you have the time.

Walked/ran today. Hot and humid. Ugh.

Falconer - oh yes, I also remember those first post-DIEP walks! At least you know you have no where to go but up! Hang in there!

It was such a nice day yesterday that I walked over to the grocery store to pick up a few things - it's only about a mile away and I can walk on shaded sidewalks, so it was a pretty walk

Sweet, her DH, DD, and DD's BF are driving from Baltimore to D.C. today, so they're going to stop by for lunch. Can't wait. And Mikey gets a whole new set of friends to meet (and bark at).

Just finished a wonderful visit with Sweet and her family. Sweet's family is delightful - we had such a good time with them. Even Mikey had fun - after he spent the first hour barking at them (those who have met Mikey will know exactly what I mean). I was so thrilled that they made time in their busy schedule to stop by - it was great to see her and to meet her family.

And I get to see her again with the rest of the gang in Daytona! Hope lots of you can join us there!

I am planning on doing ~35 miles tomorrow training ride as the BIG RIDE is in just over a month. Also plan a visit to the one stop bikers' needs place: bicycles, clothing, bicycle repair, coffee, tea, pastries, sandwiches, wine, beer.

Right now, waiting for the internet people to come while I use the building wifi. What a pain. Then off to Best Buy to get my Outlook fixed on this computer (small ride on way back on the agenda). Webmail is a drag, drag, drag, but I can at least do minimal things.

After that, I do a computer swap on my work computer to get the dead wireless modem fixed. At least I can hard wire in and catch up on work email, or at least I will be able to do this once I get my internet back.

Still wondering what I did to incur the wrath of the Internet gods Sick - Claire

Totally enjoyed the visit with Mary, her DH Mark and of course the indomitable Mikey. Hospitality was most gracious and welcoming. We have a couple of small grand dogs so are well accustomed to winning over adorable little yappers 😊

In DC tonight and tomorrow night. DD and BF have a wedding rehearsal dinner tonight so D H and I will be wandering on our own. We're just a few blocks from the White House so that will be our first stop.

Tomorrow DH and I along with DD's BF will do the tourist thing while DD has to get her hair and makeup done (starting at 11:00 am for a 6:00pm wedding). Tomorrow evening is of course the wedding hoopla. Sunday brunch with the wedding party, more touristing and return to BF's place in Baltimore.

We have a 4:40pm flight home Monday and are thinking of a Fort McHenry tour as our to-do for that day.

Will get in a bunch of walking the next few days I'm sure

Not much movement today as resting my knee from workouts Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday! Walked through stores today but bought nothing (Yay!). Will bowl tomorrow morning then shopping with my sister so that will be lots of walking.
