Hubby's driving over the mountains to your neck of the woods, Gilly.  I was going to go along but decided to stay with DD to "help" (aka play) with the boys while their daddy's in DC getting an "atta boy" award from US Customs.  It was snowing ever so lighly on the pass so he'll be groovin' along, listening to Van Morrison & eating sunflower seeds (neither of which I care for...but he'll love the 4 hours of both!).

OMG Patty....I remember when on-line grades (is yours Skyward or Wespac?) came into being.  I told my kids (fully grown) about it and they said, "Thank God we didn't have that...it would've ruined our lives."  To which I responded, "Thank God you didn't have it...it would've ruined my life!"  At least once a day, as secretary, I was giving another parent their log-in...and I just cringed.  I know it helps parents stay up on what's going on...but so often teachers were awful about keeping it updated so I'd always tell parents to make a call to a teacher if the story their child told was different that what was on-line....does that sound like a grandma talking, or what!!!!  Anyhoo...I'm sure the teachers haven't updated your darlings grades yet :)

Jane...thinking of you non-stop!  Let us know of your NED status!!!!

    We have rhododendrens blooming here....hallelujah!!!

    Love to all!

Gilly - Have an excellent trip!

Ronnie - At my age I should be a leinent grandmother, but sometimes I just have to be mean old Mom.  I guess it is kind of awful having access to the grades 24/7.  Leaves the kids open to constant nagging...not just when the report cards come out, like when I was in school.   Hooray for rhododendrens!

    Jane - What's the scoop???

Hello!  Just checking in from beautiful downtown Willow Creek!  My 6--month old grandson (now 20 lbs! - He's a moose!) is giggling and being bounced on his daddy's lap.  What a beautiful sound!  No on-line grades to worry about here ----- yet!

We got here and I spent most of last week nursing sick kids and making chicken soup.  Everyone - except me - ended up with high fevers, coughs, aching bodies... All seem to be on the mend now.

Our trailer is parked neath the tall pines and a chorus of frogs from the nearby creek serenade us to sleep...

    Enjoying the moments.

Hello SOSisters....sorry to be so long in posting.  Didn't realize how many days have flown by.  First my appointment with rad doctor was reassuring.  He was very firm about the area of concern is scar tissue and said in years past without digital imaging I wouldn't have received a letter at all.  Said many of his patients are now having to do the 6 month mammo and that probably after this next 6 months I'd only have to get one a year.  We will see.  Guess I feel better.  Other than that having a little family drama between DD and 17 year old grandson.  Too much too post, let's just say it's been a rough few days.

RonnieKay - so glad you are doing better.  It does seem like we have our share of this and that.  Sounds like you are enjoying the elbow bending with Hudson.  26 pounds is a lot to pick up to me, I should be doing strength training or something.  Diet is continuing with no great weight loss, boring really.  Had Chick-Fil-A yesterday and FF, so good!

Patty - I think online grades are a pretty great tool for parents.  If you wait for the report card it is usually too late.  What did you end up doing?  Grandson never seems to have homework either and his grades aren't very good right now.

Gil - did you say how long you would be in England?  Hope you had a great flight and enjoy every minute of your trip!

I'm signing off so I can post from next page without losing all.

Ronnie Kay - No Van Morrison?  I'm with you, a little bit goes a long way.  And I don't like sunflower seeds either!  But I love chocolate and am hoping VickiLynn is enjoying some for me occasionally.  We have daffodils, Bradford Pear trees and camilla's blooming.  I am so looking forward to spring!

VickiLynn - so glad you are settled.  Aren't grandbaby's the best?  There is nothing better than a small childs laughter.  How is Don doing?  Sounds like you are settled in another beautiful spot.  Have you found a doctor for Don yet?  How are you doing?  Sounds like you are taking care of everyone and have had your hands full.

Well sisters, sorry this is short but many things to do, little bit of time.  Take care and I will try to do better at posting and not so long in between.

Thoughts and prayers are with you.

Just checkin' in to say hi!   Vicki I'm so glad you were there to nurse everyone back to health and to hear the frogs.  Jane, relief on the scar tissue!  I hope DD and son are back on track.  Your Chick-Fil-A comment gave me an idea for dinner.  HA!

Everything is dandy on my end.  DS grades are all B's now and the homework is getting done.  So our house is full of love and peace again.  We've agreed only to look at the on-line grade together!

I hope everyone is doing well!

Ooh it's been ages since I posted! Just busy with work, family, trying to fit in more exercise (!) , my sister coming to stay with us during the week as she started a new job nearby and has not yet found a place to live.... All stuff that just keeps me occupied. I have tried to scan thru the posts I missed and it seems that mostly everyone is Ok, so glad about that. Forgive my infrequent posts nowadays, but I do think of you all and hope everyone is doing well and being happy.xxx

Hey SOSisters.... our posts are getting fewer and fewer.  Our family drama with DD and grandson has gotten better thank goodness.  The joys of teenagers!!  I have been really busy at work, performance reviews, training and day to day mess.

Patty - glad you and DS are viewing those grades together.  Isn't the ability to do so just wonderful?  Have you been busy busy with weddings?  This seems to be the time of year we see alot of weddings at the Rose Garden at our community college almost every weekend and our Botantical Garden is booked almost all year through.

Neece - it has been ages since you posted.  Glad you are doing well.  Bet it is nice to have your sister with you.  How many years age difference?  Are you very close?  I always wanted a sister, now I have many!!

Vickilynn - so wondering how you and Don are doing?  I was hoping when you got settled you would have access to the internet.  I miss you!!  Please post as soon as you can and update us on how you are doing.

RonnieKay - how are you doing?  Did you decide to cancel your carpal tunnel surgery or go ahead and get it done?  When do you do the rest of your breast reconstruction?  We are missing you and wishing you would post.  Hope all is well with you.

BarbAnne -   So how is it going?  I figure you are all settled in now with your job.  Guess DD is excited about graduation, what is she going to do next? Are you exercising for me?  I have lost a couple of more pounds but not exercising - I have so so many excuses!!

Barb0323 - hope all is well with you and your mom is doing well.  I know you were having some dental work done, how did that go?

Gilly - are you home yet?  How was the trip?  How was the weather?

Take care.  Thoughts and prayers are with you!

    Hi Ladies!

Jane, so glad everything turned out, I had the same issue with scar tissue...guess we can't win! I am so sorry about the drama, lord knows I get enough of that so I feel for you. I am still exercising...not as diligently but trying. The DD graduates from High School in June, and takes her state boards for a cosmetology so she can be a licenesed stylist and she is planning on working as an assistant-to start. She is also going to go to school at the college I work for, free tuition, and get and associates in business and something medical, but she has been taking medical terminology at the college, on line this winter, and not loving it so much, so that whole medical thing might be out the window. I might post this fall and say she is in the dental assisting program :-)I still love my job, I am fairly comfortable, we have a new president at the college who wants to restructure my department, AND my immediate manager wants to promote me, which is great, but it may or may not happen, keep your fingers crossed. Thanks for thinking of me even though I have been super negligent in posting, all you sisters are on my mind even if I don't come in and say it!

Vickilynn that is a big grand baby, but that's okay when they are healthy!!!

Ronnie/Patty- Grades on line? love that, allowed me to ride DD like a mule. Lunch accounts are on line too here, and in middle school when I was pretty sure DD was being used a bit, because she wanted to fit into this particular crowd, sounds silly now, but those stupid Boscoe Stix she bought for friends, who and I quote, at the time,  DD here "bought me a drink on their lunch account the other day"...well if they have a lunch account to buy you a drink they should have one to buy their own Boscoe Stix, and by the way DD buy your own drink!!  OMG kids! I am so glad I only had one, especially now with graduation and prom season, holy sa-moley money just can't stop leaving my wallet!

    Love to you both,

Patty sometimes you gotta be the mean one, I can't tell you how many times my DD said, "your not nice to me" and I said I don't want to be nice, or your Friend, I'm your mother and my job is to raise a nice productive member of society, if we had more moms who thought that way.. " well.. ugh!! I am keeping you and DS in my thoughts and prayers, it can only help :-)

Ronnie so glad you had time to play! Have you ever watched that show on AMC The Killing? Its set in Seattle, I just watched all of season one on Netflix Instant so I'd be ready for season 2 starting April 1st. It is a dark and sometimes hard to watch show, but riveting as heck, and you being from that area well I thought you might find it interesting.

Neece, so glad you checked in! You and I have the same issue! Time gets away from us, ahh life :-)

Love to all my sisters! If I don't post often it is only casue I am in work, yard-work, prom, graduation overload!

    Good Morning Sisters!

Been a busy month.  Mom and sister were down here for a week in Feb.  I went up to Chicago to pick them up and take them back.  We went down to Siesta Key for a few days and had a wonderful time.

Following weekend went out of town for a wedding.

Then on March 13th had major dental surgery.  Before chemo years ago I had an accident and had nerve damage to my front teeth.  Chemo then really did the number on them.  It has been a few weeks now and things are going better.  Hey - after chemo it was not as bad as I thought it would be.  Thought I would lose lots of weight because I am on a soft diet.  Problem is I love ice cream.  Lost a pound or two.

I really have to catch up on all your posts.  Hope everyone has a good weeks.

Think of all of you often

I was holding a baby and typing that last message with one hand, but he's down for a nap, so I have two hands to type with again!

This is my 3-year mark from when I found the lump - didn't have the mammo until June (what was I thinking?) I was talking to my son about that last night.  My onc. had told me after my mast. and before chemo that I would most likely be Stage IV by this time... so guess I beat her odds and I will be here for my 60th birthday!!! I know - don't want to think about that one - but I've decided to plan the birthday just the way I want and enjoy it totally!

    love you all

Hi ladies I am typing this from the south island of New Zealand where I have been with DH for the past week. he is performing at a music festival here this weekend so we have 2 weeks together in this beautiful part of the world. I have been to NZ before, but a VERY long time ago, I think IQ was about 22. Needless to say it has changed a lot in that time, however the beautiful countryside and wildlife are as lovely as ever. it's an easy, relaxed place to travel.

    Sounds like everyone is well.

    Neece- sounds wonderful! Enjoy!

All my sisters hope you are well. Normal stuff here, breathing down the neck of the last month of my daughter's senior year, and she is also getting prepped to graduate from cosmetology and take state boards...needless to say we are busy-busy.

    Love to you all

Happy, Beautiful Saturday morning to all!

If it's this gorgeous in Seattle, I'm sure it's a beautiful day for all the lovely SOS!!!!   I ditto the "thinking of you always" sentiment!  Life is busy....and I guess that's a good thing :)

It sounds like everyone's appointments have gone well....with the exception of dreaded scar tissue scaring us!  Vickilynn, I still remember how negative your oncologist was and it still makes me mad that she gave you reason to fear recovery!  Even having my second bout...there's always been great hope and a positive outlook...and it's meant the world to feel like I'm kicking this thing to the curb..again :)

Neece, my friend at work (supervisor, but she's mostly a friend), just returned from 3 weeks in Brisbane, visiting her sister's family (she met and married a native Australian).  Aside from the 17 hour flights, they had a marvelous time (they go every 2-3 years..lucky gal) even though she was attacked by midgies...which she actually had to get treated for. She's never been biten before  and she thought for a while that she had the chickenpox, but just little buggers sucking her blood!!!  Glad you had fun in New Zealand...it all seems like a fairyland to me...so far away & romantic!

Oh BarbAnne...can so remember the $ flying out of our pockets during this time of our kids' lives...just think, in a few months, she'll be styling hair and making $$$ like crazy, if everyone tips like I do!!!  My hair was longer than ever before and it's so incredibly thick that I decided I needed a haircut yesterday and my stylist had no openings.  So, I went to a gal that cut my hair when I had chemo curls.  Oh...not so good...she texturized the heck out of it and when there's just a bit of wave in there, it goes all over the place.  Totally my fault!  Anyhoo, I remember my guy saying, "If you need a haircut BAD, be prepared for a BAD haircut."  Bingo!  The part that really irritated me was that this gal said, "I just threw away some earrings that belonged to you."  I was confused, and she continued to say that she had had them in an envelope with my name on it, waiting for me to come back (that was over a year ago), and when I didn't come back (even though she had my name and phone #), she threw them away a couple of months ago.  When I asked what kind they were, she said pearls...the pearls I searched all over for!!!  She asked if they were real, I said yes and told her they were expensive, which is why I wouldn't let my husband buy me more because I always took care of them and was going to find them!!! Finally my kids bought me new ones for my bday last year.  This was after I'd paid her, and I wanted to ask for my money back! I asked my she didn't just keep them and she said she already had pearls...does anyone else think that was rude???  I won't be seeing her again.

Had my carpal tunnel surgery 2 weeks ago and am doing great.  Since mine wasn't full-blown ctsyndrome, just a result of broken elbow swelling, it was pretty easy.  I had 3 stitches and from the moment I walked into surgery to the time we were in the car going home, it was an hour and 15 minutes.  A friend that had surgery the same day has been plagued by cts for years and she's got a bit more of a recovery. Jane, I hope DD gets good advice as to how long she should wait before surgery, if that's what it comes to.  When I went for post-op, my surgeon said it really is like a miracle in the way people's pain is gone with just a little snip!  I also told him in surgery that we had to quit meeting this way (I said it twice!) and he said I just kept saying what a great surgeon he was (he was my elbow surgeon).  He must weigh 100 lbs soaking wet and looks 16 years old...but I was singing his praises!  He's quite proud that my elbow functions normally, since it was one of the worst breaks he's seen...hence...my compliments!  I am glad, however, that my other surgeries have been longer, which meant a breathing tube in my mouth....saves embarrassment later!!!   5 surgeries down....1 to go!  10 weeks and counting!

Have a great weekend........Love to all!

Hi SOSisters.... sorry I have been so long in posting.  Let's see...I had to go to Duke for my annual heart checkup.  That appt was great.  However that morning I fell and landed on my right shoulder.  It hurt but I figured I had just badly bruised it.  So then we leave and go to the beach, where it was cold and raining for our week vacation.  Two days into the vacation we get a call from DD who is at the emergency room.  We came home immediately, she had a ruptured appendix.  Since we were home early I decided I should get my should checked.  I had fractured the tip of my humuous (sp?).  The symptoms mimicked rotator cuff injury, fortunately they did an MRI.  I am now in a brace to keep my arm immobilized for the next 2-3 weeks to be followed by PT.  I have to go back to work tomorrow.  Should be interested as my break is in my right arm and I'm right handed.  Ronnie Kay I feel I'm following in your footsteps!

Anyway I was so glad to see so many posts and that everyone was doing well.  I love all of you and will try to post more later.

Thoughts and prayers are with you!

Jane! Holy cow, I am wishing you a speedy recovery! Glad you posted though, take care and use the pain pills :-)

Ronnie- yes that was very rude, and to have your phone number and name and not call, she is a real piece of work, I'm sorry that happened to you.Congrats on the carpal tunnel.

Not much else going on here, DH is having another one of his not speaking to me or DD, been days,I am so tired of it, pray for me girls.

Or at least pray for my strength to get through it.

More money keeps flying out for the DD, be super glda when graduation gets here and she gets State Boards done...then hopefully fingers crossed I will have some money and maybe DH will be speaking to someone other than the cat. :-)

    Well off to do something...

    Love

Gosh. I'm away for a few weeks and when I come back....everybody is either falling apart or getting put back together again. Be careful out there ladies!

Ronnie - Your stylist is incredibly rude! Would it have killed her to pick up the phone? Oh well, live and learn....the haircut will grow out and you can forget her. I'm glad your hand surgery went well. Bodes well for the biggie in 10 weeks.

Vickie - I'm planning on a wonderful 60th myself! Don't count us out yet! I can also relate to your one-handed typing problems. I'm typing this on my iPad, the keyboard of which leaves a bit to be desired. I'm actually sitting in a bar having a nice cold beer and some fish while I wait for DS to finish his Kung Fu class. Naughty me!

Jane - I hope your shoulder is on the mend. Great news on the heart tests...you're in fine fettle for your birthday as well! Best wishes to your lowly DD.

Barbara - my mother was of the ilk that if you made her mad she just clammed up for days on end. She says she knew it was wrong but she just couldn't help it. But it was pretty miserable for the rest of us! Hang in there and congrats to your DD.

Neece - NZ is the most amazing place!! I'm so jealous.

Our spring show was last Sunday and we don't have another one until August...so we are closing the office for two whole weeks. Whatever shall I do with myself? DS is in school so I can't take a trip. I'm enjoying this bar quite a bit...so maybe I'll be a barfly for a while. HA!

When will you get back to two-handed typing, Jane?

May 13th (Mother's Day) was the three year anniversary of my diagnosis and I have to say I'm just delighted to still be here, feeling fine and living the good life.  The 10-months of treatment are becoming distant memory.   Especially now that my new sofa was delivered today.   The old just never got over all the time I spent on it!

So we all have cancer-versaries coming up and quite a few birthdays.  Hooray for us!

Hello SOSisters.... I took my brace off so I could post.  Arm is healing.  Start physical therapy next week and then will get rid of my lovely brace.  I have gotten quite adept at using my left hand.  Was on vacation this week, manicure/pedicure, some shopping.  Nothing too exciting.  DD is doing well and has pretty much recovered from her ruptured appendix.

Patty - funny, I got a new couch too, no chemo naps on this one.  How are you doing?  Will you please post when everyone's birth date?  I'm sure I have them written down somewhere but where is the question.  How is DS doing?  Can you believe school is almost out again, where does the time go?

RonnieKay - Glad your carpal tunnel surgery went so well.  I'm am having tingling up and down my arm, I'm guessing from being in the sling.  Did you have to do physical therapy?  I understand it is very painful, two doctors told me to take my pain meds before starting!  Do you want all of us to beat up this ex hairdresser?  I don't know why people are so stupid.

BarbAnne - you must be right in the thick of things now.  When does DD graduate, know it must be close.  I remember those days so well, you will survive.  And if it's any consolation life will get better for you and DH when DD graduates!  At least it did in my house.

Neece - your trip sounds wonderful.  I would love to go somewhere exotic.  I'm thinking Fiji on a magical plane so it would be a short trip, which by time I arrived I would have lost 40 pounds, firmed up and looked good in a bikini!  Oh well, a girl can dream.

VickiLynn - how wonderful that you are getting to spend time with those wonderful grandbabies.  How are you and DH doing otherwise?  Will you be staying put or taking off on another grand adventure?

Gilly - hope you are doing well and enjoying the summer.

Well sisters, I have typed more than I should but wanted you to know I was thinking of each of you.  Don't get so busy you forget to check in every once in a while.  I miss you when you don't post.

Take care.  Thoughts and prayers are with you.

Hi specially to Patty and Jane, the ones I have met! Glad to hear things are going well and Jane that your arm is healing. All is well here in Idaho. I just bought a ton of tomato plants, but not planted them yet, then heard it could be frosty tonight, so covered them all up. Oldest son graduated from UI last week, finally. It has taken six years. He has gone to California, bay area, to visit family this weekend, and hopefully look for a job as he would like to live there for a while. What do you do with an art degree? I somehow keep myself busy- teaching a few music classes for young children in various preschools and working on my podcasts. I just started walking again in the early mornings and try to do 21/2 to 3 miles. I am averaging 16 minute miles, which is pretty good going.

As a TN, I read regularly the calling all TN thread. We have have a hard time recently, loosing three ladies this year and a couple more becoming stage IV. It is very sobering.

How funny that you got a new sofa too, Jane.  My new one is so pretty I hesitate to sit on it.  DS doesn't have any qualms however.  Nor, unfortunately, do the cats.  I better hurry up and claim it!

Gill I know what you are saying about the sobering fact that the disease that brought us all together, does take some of us away forever.   I'm so grateful that everyone on this board is doing so well...even our funny beautiful Ronnie.  My prayers go out to you Gill and all the TN ladies.

DS leaves for a school trip to NYC later this week and as soon as he's on the plane, I'm off to the desert for a spa vacation.  Can't wait!

Hey ladies just stopped in to check up...

Yes I am in the thick...graduation Sunday, awards last night, cosmetology graduation last week, family flying in this weekend, DH stressed, DD stressed, got a summons fro Jury duty Monday June 4th , mammogram June 11th, DD dentist, she and DH hate the dentist, on June 12...

Office with new college president being restructured, got a promotion starting July first...more hours, but loads more benefits, DH still trying to come to grips with that and

DD has to take state boards two all day events an hour half a way in June....I have my eye on the fourth of July I will at least be breathing then...

I get a clear mammogram though and I will be able to take on the world.

I miss and love you all

Yikes, Barbara, you really have a full plate right now.  Congratulations on the promotion and I just know your mammo will be perfect!  DS is also in the final stretch of the school year with the prom, awards ceremony and a school camping trip...all next week.  My job is easy:  chauffeur!

My short spa vacation was well worth it.  There is nothing like getting away from home to relax.  If I stay home I'm always thinking of all the things I should be doing.  If I'm away I can just sit at the pool and read to my heart's content with no guilt feelings.

I saw a nutritionist on TV who said the best we all can do keep cancer away is to make sure we get our daily quota of vitamin D.  Are you ladies getting your Vitamin D??  At the suggestion of my Onc, I got a bag of surprisingly tasty chocolate squares at Costco that contain both calcium and Vit D.  One square/meal and you get your daily requirement.  We'll see how it has worked...I have a DEXA coming up!

    Hello SOSisters....

BarbAnne - wow, do you sound busy.  Breathe!!  Sounds like a whirlwind at your house but it will settle down to soon and you'll be thinking it's too quiet.  Congratulations on your promotion, remember when you were worried you wouldn't be able to handle the job you have now?  We knew you could do it!  Your mammo will be clear - we will start the chant right now.  Try to relax a little bit while all your activities are going on.

Patty - your spa retreat sounds wonderful.  I would like to sit by the pool, relax and read.  Did you read anything good?  What will you being doing while DS is off camping?  DH pulled a hamstring and is hobbling around the house.  I told him we were going to have to get those "help I've fallen and can't get up" things!  I'm doing pt twice a week, my arm aches but I'm sure it will get better sooner or later.

Vickilynn - where are you?  We are missing you and your adventures!

Neece - hope all is going well and you are just busy, busy.

Barb0323 - hope all is well with you and you are enjoying a great summer.

Gilly - how is it going?  Are you keeping busy?

Take care and post soon!  Thoughts and prayers are with you.

I am happy to report on what I'm reading because I think y'all might find it interesting or reassuring or something.  The book is "The Emperor of All Maladies - A Biography of Cancer".  It is beautifully written by a physician with the fantastic name of Siddartha Mukherjee.  A couple of years ago I would have been more likely to pluck out my eyeballs than to a read a whole book about cancer, but now I'm finding it quite interesting.  One thing that it has made perfectly clear is that we are all so blessed to have been diagnosed in 2009 and not, say, 1809!  Check this out...

    - They were doing mastectomies BEFORE there was anesthesia.  Can you even imagine?  And since they also didn't know about germs you no doubt died of a massive infection long before breast cancer could do you in.

    - For years radical mastectomies were in vogue and to have anything less was considered ridiculously under-treating.  Now I'd heard about "radical" mastectomies but did not realize that some doctors took the breast, the muscles under the breast, the RIBS under the muscles, all the axillary lymph nodes, the super clavicle lymph nodes, the clavicle, the shoulder....OMG.  No wonder people lived in absolute terror of a cancer diagnosis.

    -  We need to be thankful for the antiemetics we got.  Not that long ago people were absolutely incapacitated by constant nausea and uncontrollable vomiting while on chemo.

    -  Those of us on the hormonal treatments and those who got Herceptin should be especially thankful.  These treatments have extended our lives immensely.   I will never complain again about staggering around my bedroom on painful ankles every morning due to that damn, I mean that beautiful, Femara pill.

Maybe years from now other women will read about our treatments and think "Those poor, poor ladies...so brutal."   Wouldn't that would be a wonderful thing?
