Faith, even if DH was in the same state as you when you get the (b9) results, chances are that the two of you wouldn't be sitting around waiting for that phone call, so the chances of him being "right there" would be slim.

It is a good decision to let him have his planned time for himself, and a good excuse for you to spend some quality time with Sarah and the kids.

Keep busy, and hopefully you won't need to worry about any recovery time other than the one you are currently in.  This thread is actually part of the surgery - before, during and after forum where you are most likely to find the threads you are probably looking for.  If you find that you need more info, I'm sure that plenty of us will share, although there are a number of factors that affect recovery time, so your surgeon who is familiar with your particular history might be the best place to start.

Elaine congratulations on your 3 years! What a cute pic of your DH and missy.

Shiny look after yourself and hope you are soon feeling better.

Faith I am indeed extremely proud of you. You made a good decision all round.

When I had my mastectomy I joined a thread for the appropriate month and I remember that women in the group had varied experiences. As PatMom said there are a number of factors that can affect recovery time. I will say that my surgery and recovery were nowhere near as bad as I was expecting. I consider myself to have been very lucky in that respect. I am very happy to share more info if you need it. For now I am praying for b9 results.

Bunnies I can't tell you what it means to me for your support/encouragement/grasp of my sending my DH off to sunny FL in the midst of this unfolding.

I am sooooooooo happy to have made that decision. I am completely at peace with it.

I slept soundly all night, with visions of dancing Buckeyes in my head. (international friends it's out home-town team, that were underdogs and won their sporting match on national TV last night.) I awoke well rested and completely calm. Again with the calm.

*****BTW: I know that I am in a cart & horse conundrum and am working to keep them from being tangled up..... but with my happy little life, and numerous flights on the calendar and speaking engagements around here & there, I have to be a tad overzealous in thinking thru/processing how this current story will unfold on behalf of the calendars & programs of others.

I am so grateful to everyone for your support and for sharing specifics as to surgery/recovery.

I am remembering to exhale. I am basking in a great sea of calm. (Yeah, I know you're all shocked. LOL!!) I think I've used these last 12 months to process this weekend at hand, if that makes any sense. I've already gone thru the denial, teeth gnashing, sobbing stuff -- lots of it last summer as I rode my bike those 827 miles.

So now I'm 'ready' and just wanna get 'er done.

I'm sure there will be plenty of sobbing at other junctures, but this morning it's all about calm.

And for that I say thank you to the angels who are supervising my growth and you friends for praying me into acceptance and maturity.

KMC lovey, thank you soooooo much for my 2 lovely peaches! I missed them last time I sneaked a look here.

Sorry if I never returned with my Christmas morning tales, been a bit of a lemon and got back from my inlaws last night, so busy mummy! So, for the record, the kids had a magical Christmas morning. Nearly more fussed with the magic of Santa's sleigh having been here in our garden then the pressies! Santa even, apparently, borowed a bucket I had in the kitchen to give the reindeers a drink! Wow, now that was a first for me too!

I hope you are all enjoying your break from your regular routines, if you are blessed enough to have a break!! Bless you and extra bucket loads of feel good vibes if you haven't had much of a break.

Kids are "singing" children's songs into the microphone that they received at Christmas with Daddy's support, and occassional "backing vocals"..Oh, and this a.m, we took one of DS's birthday ballons to play "volley balloon" in the kitchen! We used the timer on the oven to bleep every 2 minutes, we had a string accross the middle of the kitchen table to mark the net.. there were noooo fast rules, and we had kids against parents, girls/boys. etc teams. It was quite a giggle and it's a "sport" DS could be on par with us at as the bslloon moves slowly, so his otor skills didn't get in the way, brill! We are planning to have a go every Saturday morning from now on. (They are short matches!- which is good for this Lemonnette!!)

Oh, I do chat a great deal, even when I had not intention too!!! xx Faith, you know am in your pocket!!

    Take care of yourselves loveys!!

Gentle hugs to all houseworkers and non-houseworkers alike.

But since today is party day........let's pretend our housework is done for the day/week/month?  Hey, why not add for the year?Wink

Happy Birthday Kathleen.........happy day to all.

Shiny, I have had that happen too.  I'm sure my most sage words have been lost in cyberspace forever.

Coonie once my skin has recovered from rads I will be completing my reconstruction, this is likely to take between 6 and 12 months before my skin is ready. Not that I had a bad time with rads, just that the skin will not be so elastic now. That is fine with me because at this stage it's not clear exactly what will be possible for me and I'm not sure what I would prefer anyway. Until then the T/E can stay in there. So I don't feel under pressure to make a quick decision, I can relax, do my research and get on with my life for a while. For me this new year really feels like a fresh start. Looking back on 2009 I really don't know how I would have got through it without all my dust bunny friends. A big thank you to you all for being there for me.

Kathleen I'm excited about you and Coonie dropping in for tea. I see you've got the transport organised so I'd better start some baking.

It looks like I've recruited 3 other women from the Sept 08 chemo group to go on the bc survivor's cruise in May.  I'm so looking forward to it!  I hear the stewards clean your room twice a day!

Thanks for all the birthday wishes!  Sorry I didn't post yesterday or early this morning before anyone deigned to pick up any household chore.  Since I didn't, you get the whole month off!

Jayne - we can't wait either!  What fun.  High tea is at 4 p.m.?

Hope everyone had a reasonable day!

I've been on the phone since I posted several hours ago.

My surgeon called. The path is in. It is indeed DCIS. He calls that cancer. 3 cm.

I just deplore the having-to-tell-everyone portion of this journey.

I have spoken to everyone in my biological family.

To their credit, my DH, each of my daughters & my parents have said the right things & avoided saying the 'wrong' things. LOL.

    I've trained them well.

I am scheduled for a bilat mastectomy (I guess it's time to learn how to spell that word) with no recon. Friday Jan15th..... yes. In a little over 10 days. First surgery of the day, as of this moment 7:30 a.m. That is my daddy's birthday and I take that as a good omen.

In speaking with him/them tonight, he said that he'd be happy to share the goodness of that day with me and my med team and Martin Luther King, Jr. (well actually I'm adding that part.... but it is a good day in all of my experience.)

So please don't say: "I'm soooo sorry." Enough non-BC people will be saying that for the next several months, I really don't want any of you to say it.

Yes. We're all sorry, we're sorry to be in this boat.

Thank goodness there is a boat for us, though. A boat together.

This time around I do have enough sense to grasp that stage 0 is stage 0.

My surgeon wants to impress upon me that I am opting for an emotional removal of healthy boob-ness & that it is not 'medically' indicated.

    I get that.

I've made the decision to proactively remove every zip and squat of everything, breastage. End of discussion. I'm a fairly emotional person. I have grandchildren...... I want to do EVERYthing in my power to be here for them.

Enough about me, how was your day??

I will go next and post something on FB.

Thank you for your prayers. Keep them coming: calm & acceptance.
