Thinking Out Loud.....

We will be having Leg of Lamb. Or ham, but I like lamb on special occasions. Come on over, we'll have something tasty...
-
Speaking of cooking, has anyone heard from Diane lately?
-
I love lamb & Ham.
chris....it takes forever to heat up the ham...i never follow the directions.
Meece....My friend is moving and gave me almost brand new Electric roaster. It's sooooo big.....
-
Mine stays in the gargage in it's box most of the time.
-
Thank you for confirming it for me - I thought it was just me that it took so long to heat up for...
-
Get yourself an instant read thermometer. It give an accurate reading of inside temps of the meat.
-
I have a couple - that's how I knew the ham wasn't going to be done on time last time I made it. It was just for us, so I just heated up some pieces in the microwave. I'm a germ-phobe and I know sometimes "fully cooked" meat can be contaminated with listeria - so I like to make sure I heat it up thoroughly. It's not easy being anal retentive...
-
chris....Probably it takes the same time to cook a fresh ham than heating the fully cooked one.

Congrats to DD wish the boys knew what they were doing, don't even know if they will graduate, so frustrated.....
HAPPY MONDAY!!
-
Hope the boys are on track to graduate. And if they've missed school - that they make up what they need to. I'm a little nervous about how much school DD has missed this year - between her surgery and migraine days and Dr. appts - it adds up. She can make it up if she has missed too much - just not sure if the school is paying attention. Hope they don't wait until the last minute to let me know she has time to make up.
Hope the boys come up with a plan for themselves. It is frustrating when they just float along and don't try to figure out for themselves what they might want to do. DD is all about the extracurriculars. I'm still having trouble getting her to focus. And DS? Hello, you can't major in playing video games...
-
Well thanks for that and yep me too they have the xbox sports games down pat....Not sure if they have a plan cause it is in their court...I can't stress about it, or try not to, lol....they aren't floating they are failing or at least 1 is and the other by the skin of his teeth...actually have to ask the teachers what the deal is, thanks for reminding me...
-
I guess I'm naive, but I would expect the school to be monitoring their standing and letting them and you know if they are in danger. Not to mention helping them to succeed. Grrr - makes me so mad. We can see the grades online - finally - but it only helps so much since many teachers take so long to post the grades. By the time I find out my kids are f-ing up, there isn't much time left in the quarter to do anything about it. Grrr.
-
My crock pot looks just like Meeces pic! I don't know how many quarts it is. Its about 18 inches long. Sorry I didn;t respond sooner, I have been OUTSIDE!!! It's freaking awesome!!
-
My face is sun burned and achy........but not complaining......
Chris...Congratulations on DD.
sandy...worse comes to worse they have to go to summer school.......sorry
(((TOL)))♥
-
Got my Vit D Sunday and today. plus taking 2000 IU per day also, it better not be low.
-
Sandy, my daughter has been skirting the edge all year. She finally failed 3 classes last six weeks. She's been grounded until the new progress reports come out and she is doing better about getting her work in but is still failing 2 of those classes. It doesn't seem that important to her. Makes me want to pull my hair out (if I had any, LOL!) She's a junior.
-
Judy, sounds like my son. He is a junior too. Although he is not failing any classes, he is brilliant, but could care less. School bores him. Why dont they try? My youngest is on an IEP and tries hard, but only gets C's. I'm OK with that because at least he's trying!
-
One more thing, when my oldest (last year) was almost failing a couple classes (on purpose) I told him if he had to go to Summer school he was going to pay for it. My taxes already paid for him to go to school. He pulled those grades up immediately!
-
I want to pull my hair out too - but it's thinning - so I won't.
Threats aren't working too much in this family. It takes so long for me to find out my kids are slacking that I can't be consistent with the corresponding punishments. I'm worried about DD going to school in the fall, a couple of her grades aren't good. I'm thinking if she can't handle those courses now - how will she ever be able to handle the classes she will take in the fall?! She just doesn't get it. It's mental.
Went for a walk last night - 2.5 miles with DS and then DH joined for another 2.5. Ran the last mile of the first loop. Uh, I mean, "ran." Ankle held up okay - didn't hurt at first, but then it did. I never know what pain is good pain - stretching and strengthening - vs bad pain - overdoing. It's a tiny bit sore today - but not bad - so I'll take it as good pain.
When I started to "run" to see if I could, I was so slow, DS was still walking and was keeping up. How sad is that? Then I picked up the pace a little. He would walk, then jog a few steps to catch up - then jog ahead - jog backwards - jog in circles around me. He's so mean. lol

Thank heavens ladies that my kids have been out of school for years, and years, but I do have grandchildren still in all different grades..........
I do have 2 grandchildren (the children of the son whose wife left him)..............who are brilliant.....one of them aced the PSSA's, and the other is just naturally outstanding......guess what....the boy will not graduate this year......he was an A student, and a championship wrestler, with 4 colleges recruiting him.............blew it all.......is into drugs, does not go to school (jnless he feels like it), and was thrown off the wrestling team a year ago for calling the coach a F/N Di-khe-d............nice huh..............and the girl just doesn't give a shit........It breaks my heart, especially considering my son was a wonderful father, who married a low-life.
On the other hand, I have a grandson (lives in Chicago now).....who graduated from Carnagie Mellion University with a 4.0 GPA, Honors in the Teppar Business School, and is financial adviser now for a huge firm....his brother.....same only Penn State University........and his little sister who graduated from CAtholic University in D.C. with a degree in nursing 4.0 GPA......and works in the neo-natal intensive care unit at Children's Hospital in Phila...
Another grandson, in 7th grade just got his report Straight A's, and a letter that brought me to tears from the Priincipal saying what an honor it was to have him in the school, and his little sister 5th grade......Straight A's also, and just made the Softball team as their starting "fast ball" pitcher for this season.
Another Grandaughter a CPA........grandson....Regional manager for Enterprise Auto, 2 grandsons in Franklin and Marshall college made the Dean's List..............and their sister....straight A student, and 6th in the state of Pa. for running Track, and is being recruited for Volleyball by 3 colleges...
What happens to kids........what makes them think it is "cool" for them not to excel, especialy when they have the ability to do so........it is heartbreaking, and usually they find this out "way to late"........I am hoping there is still hope for my son's 2 kids, but I'm doubtful........He just can't do it all, and his whore of a 'wife is living (what she thinks) is the good life, in the same town, with her boyfriend............while my son is mother and father.........we do whatever we can to make it easier. but he has his hands full.............he has 2 other children 1 is in college, and the youngest is in Middle school, but saw her the other day, and her hair is highlighted..............the mother had it done...............the kid is only 12........
So ladies good luck with your children..........it isn't easy, and they did not come with a book of instructions, so we do the best we can, and hope it all works out.............sometimes it doesn't, and then other times it does............not sure what makes for success, but it isn't easy, and I told my kids........................I would not want to be raising children in this day and age..........it is not easy................good luck to you all.
-
Wow - Ducky - you've got some impressive grandchildren. It looks like my kids got all the "bad" genes - none of the competitive or ambitious spirit of earlier generations...hopefully there is a recessive gene in there somewhere that they can pass down - lol.
So sorry to hear about your other grandchildren. Their mother's parental rights should be terminated. I wish the school could have stepped in and given him support to get him back on track. I'm so sad for your son. I hope someone or something comes into their lives to get them back on a successful path.
I hope all these kids find the motivation they need to work to their potential. ((((((Kids)))))))

DD might take a Bio class during summer session this summer. I don't think she can handle it, so I'm having second thoughts. But DD told one of the Bio club teachers she might be taking a course over the summer and the teacher, who lives down the street from the school, said maybe they can do lunch. I said - "And by lunch, she means tutoring, right?" lol (I'm not kidding- she's going to need help)
One funny thing - DD texted me a little while ago - forwarding me a message from a former classmate who is in the UConn marching band. He said they had a band meeting last night and that DD was the first incoming freshman to submit the online membership form. I texted back asking her if they can pull strings to get her on campus... doesn't hurt to try, does it? omg- I'm such a loser...
-
Chris, threats and punishments don't seem to work much here either. I wish I knew what the secret was Ducky. My son wishes now he would have tried harder in High School and he tells that to my DD. She talks the talk all the time, but no follow through. I tell their Dad it must be his genetics because he sort of coasted through High School too. At least he became more driven afterwards. I can only hope this happens to our kids. I love my kids, but at this point I'm glad I only have another 1 1/2 years of high school to get through ( hopefully!!).
-
Wow, the giant font on my last posting was total accident. Sometimes I do things on this laptop and I don't even know how it happens, LOL!!
-
I hear ya - I've got 2 yrs, one quarter and 8 school days left...but who's counting...
-
LOL!
-
