I live in Warrenton and had surgery at Prince William by Dr. Wampler for BM immediate expanders from Dr. Hess. Had exchange at Fair Oaks. Feeling better about howw they look. Will go back in May for nipple surgery.
I am kind off in the middle of the two of you. Danix and AnnaM. I also know Monique lives near Fair Oaks.
She was kind enough to come see me at my exchange. It was very thoughful.

Oh, PinkyLee! I just this minute got back from Warrenton. Went there with a friend to visit your cute little quilt shop and we had lunch there. Such a nice town!
Hi, Danix. Yes, I like Dr. W. My previous oncologist (Broome) moved her office and I couldn't follow, so she recommended Wilkinson. When I started seeing W. she did put me through some uncomfortable rounds (ultrasound, needle biopsy) because she didn't like the feel of one of my lymph nodes. Luckily, it was nothing and my breast surgeon said that node has been the same since my initial surgery. It seems my doctors don't ever communicate. Whenever I hear people talking about all their doctors getting together and deciding on a course of action I wonder why none of my doctors ever talk to each other. Ah well.

Hello NoVa ladies, just found you!
I live in Round Hill (between Leesburg and Winchester just off route 7). I work in Reston so I've had my surgery at Reston Hospital Center with Dr Ken Mason, and will go there for radiation as well, but I'm getting chemo at Lansdowne with Dr Ajay Dar - first chemo (TACx6) is 1st April.
Lou.

HI, Lou. Sorry you had a reason to join this group, but happy to have you here.
I live in Leesburg, also just off Route 7! Right around the corner, in fact.

I live in Warrenton right on 29S. I think a couple of the ladies met in Alexandria for a parade, but some of us were not up to it at that point.
I would love to get together for a lunch or something.

Hello everyone from the Metro region
I am newly diagnosed (3/13) .
-
Hi Debbie...I don't live to far from you - I'm in Rockville. I use Georgetown for all my treatments/tests. What are they recommending for treatment? Did you do the oncotype testing?
I'm glad you found the site and this thread...there is a lot of information to be taken from here. I know you're scared...but you're exactly right, it's mostly the unknown. I think most of us feel better once treatments start!
Welcome to the party !
-
hey ladies. so this week is my second treatment. first one went ok - it's more the neulasta shot that causes trouble more than the chemo. but the shot kept my white counts at a good level so not taking the chances of not getting it.
took me about a week to feel normal again. wasn't expecting it to take that long.
-
reeney77 You will do great! See you on the March Chemo boards.
hugs,
Diane
-
Hi NoVa Ladies,
Tomorrow is my second chemo. First one went well but I did suffer with low white count (got antibiotics and avoided any infection
) and did not feel back to normal until 8 days after treatment. This time I have the antibiotic rx already....
lastminuteD - I have seen Dr Jeff Moulds at Reston Radiation Oncology. The nurses there were great!
-
Hi Debbie-
I'm a patient of Dr. Wright as well - just passed my 3 year survivor anniversary! I really like her a lot - she's always been so positive and encouraging and calmed all my fears. And, I never, ever, feel rushed at my appointments - ever three years out!
How do you like her? I grew up in Rockville, but live in Fredericksburg, VA.
Good luck with your treatments, and let me know how you like Dr. Wright!

If anyone wants to meet at Mexicali Blues in Arlington on Sunday, April 26 at noon, there will be 5 of us going for lunch. It is very close to the Clarendon metro stop. PM me if you want more info. We all met at chemo at Georgetown and 4 of us still get treatments there.
To PM (private message), click on my name, which is in blue, on the right hand side is a "send private message".

Welcome, to you new gals. I had a brain fart and got the cart before the horse. Check out the many threads here and you will find many caring, supportive and knowledgeable ladies.

anyone going to the network of strength walk tomorrow? I will be there with my daughter and good friend.
Dani
-
Come on aren't any N.VA ladies going to this walk in DC?
-
Hi Dani: I opted to go to a concert and dinner with my only son and daughter in law. However, I did volunteer as a greeter for the Avon Walk a couple of weeks ago. IF my toe nails ever grow, I will think about doing part of the actual walk, but for now, no long walks for me.
-
Hey Nancy,
The walk was beautiful DC was so nice that day! Glad you spent time with your son and dil for Mother's Day!
This walk is what I called "my wimpy" walk only 3 miles, I liked it not really for the walk being short I can walk, but I did not want to raise over 2000, for Avon or Komen. Too hard in this financial situation the country is in! We had to raise only 100 each!
I let you know when I am back up in Alexandria!

Nobody has posted on this thread for a while. Maybe you're all finished with treatment and feeling good now. Hope so!
Anybody recently diagnosed in the northern VA area? I started TCH June 17th.

Hi Diane and Lynn,
I live in Herndon and am having all my treatments in Reston. Did you do chemo Lynn or just radiation? I have my second chemo coming up July 8th. Happy to be feeling good this weekend! My hair started falling out yesterday. I'm going to a wig place in Fairfax with a group of friends today to get it shaved and buy a wig. You look really good, Diane!

Hi all,
I live between Manassas and Woodbridge. Have 2 more chemo tx left 7/6 & 7/20, no rads. Have my exchange surgery tentatively scheduled for 8/10. Just saw peach fuzz on my head yesterday - SOOOO excited! I didn't know there was a thread for NoVA. Glad to have found it! HUGS, Dawn
-
Hi and welcome to the newbies. I have my last Herceptin on July 16 and get the port out on July 20 - the end of "active" treatment. It has been a long and exhausting year since I began chemo, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.
I live in Alexandria and go to the Lombardi Cancer Center at Georgetown University Hospital.
Nancy
